Keshi toys are small figures cast in hard rubber. They saw their most fame on the craze of M.U,S,C,L.E. figures, that were based on the characters from the manga and anime Kinnikuman.

Have them? Talk about them, post yours.

I have great difficulty getting info on keshi toys that are in english. Finding them to buy is even worse. If any japanon can shed some light it would be great.

So here's some of the shit I'm looking for info and to buy.
First, these guys, or just the knight.
They are called Top Toupie Pull Spin Battle. They come with beyblade like spinners and they go on top of them.
This post on a blog is all the info I have.
http://www.littleweirdos.net/2014/04/top-toupie-pull-spin-battle-dollar-tree.html

For some reason I cannot find any trace of these toys on-line.
>>
Next on the elusive list, Skulltula Gaikotyu.
Again, very little info in english, just a few blogs.
They were released at the Jungle shop website at some point and now I can't find anything anymore.
>>
This is called Splatter Retsuden/Terror Treehouse, made by Uncut. It seems to be a popular keshi line, but like the other cannot find anything outside of blog posts about the launch of each past figure.

And these fuckers that I know the least of.
I'm looking for the little knight.
They were at some point showcased at the Design Festa 41 (2015), on the indie toys weekend. I know they were from the Jungle booth, so again something put out by Jungle that I cannot find, like the Skulltulla.

Few more shots to follow.

That's because the entire line got recalled. Pulled from stores shortly after their release. Unless you check the right places online and even then requires a lot of luck, you're not finding them now.
>>
>>5992672
Wow, that fucking sucks.
Those seem to be really good sculpts, the spin tops don't even matter. And they were sold for like 3 bucks.

Technically they should count, since they are counted as "a type of western keshi", from australia. I'd say go for it, keep the thread alive. Not OP btw, just an interested lurker.
>>
Are there many current incarnations of true M.U.S.C.L.E type figures? There's OMFG obviously, but I don't know much about this. This hits me in the nostalgia hard, I loved the old style one-piece molds of hard rubber figures. Looking to get into this. Do the Glyos guys PVC figs count for this or?
>>
>>5997748
There's always a bunch hanging around. Super7 is doing a Street Fighter one, and the sculpts look great.
Violence Toy's Gorelords are nifty.
Bigmantoys are making some muscle figures based on the puppets from Puppet Master, which I'm not a huge fan.
Super7 also has a Masters of the Universe line.
Then there is The Mystical Warriors of the Ring, which are really amazing for the size.

What's the general opinion. Do you like old figures better, or the more modern western ones? I find the older ones stylistically more pure, but I rather enjoy the higher degree of accuracy in textures in modern ones. Plus i'm a sucker for the gross gory themes in the western current ones.
>>
>>6000886
I've recently stumbled across that universe when remembering my rubber guys from my childhood. I like the modern lines because it's a really particular way of expressing your art. It's a small world and i'm loving it.
Even if modern ones tend to be more precise i'm still baffled vy the originality of old keshis.
I'm making a serie of four figures right now based on a line i had in the 80's. Can't wait to finish this.
>>
>>6000886
I think all the new lines still capture really well the purity and simplicity of old keshi figures, even if they are more detailed.
Specially regarding kinkeshi, the western fans always try their hardest to follow the original muscle style.
Such is the result that sometimes I can't tell when a figure was produced.

I actually live in San Francisco, where Super7 is based out of, and am cool with the employees at their brick and mortar stores so I get discounts on the reg. That's how I get my more current releases.

When I first started out, I would lurk Ebay and do bulk deals with sellers. A lot of people have been in the hobby for years, so you find some looking to move their collections. That black alien with the alpha symbol on his chest for example was released in 2005 as a collaboration with a toy shop in Japan. It was only sold through the store and only around 100 or so were made. On its own, it goes for around $100-$150. I picked it up in a lot for $25.

For a lot of people in the hobby, the go to resource is a forum called Skullbrain. You can find a ton of information on a lot of obscure pieces. Like all the research from the example above was done on Skullbrain after I had gotten it. Also, the members are extremely nice and are always willing to cut a deal when it comes to sales. The only downside is it takes like 3 weeks for you to be approved for posting and entering sales threads because the place is extremely baron compared to the past.

I don't really "do" this kind of toy. But I just order the Baba Yaga and Bunyan from Imperfecz. I just couldn't resist the tiny myth-based kaiju and the fact they they come with buildings.

Not my picture. I would have loved to get this limited edition set.
>>
>>6007422
I've been ogling at his figs too. Such an awesome idea to pull off. Especially since he does do kaijus out of non-traditional lore creatures.
>>
>>6007516
Honestly it's kind of got me itching to give it a try. I've been thinking about getting into casting and tiny kaiju is right up my alley and I love the idea of doing more buildings.

The Baba Yaga is what convinced me to actually order from him. It hit a vein of Hellboy nostalgia. I hope to see some more non-Yokai figures. I also wish I liked the chupacabra more.
>>
>>6007753
Hey go for it man, the more people are making these things the more we will get making them. This is what this is about i think, it's like a spreading inspiration that grabs people - I was inspired to start writing my thesis about making keshi as tiny sculptures with play value after seeing all the types people make.

>>6007780
I used to sculpt and cast a little plaster but never anything so small. I might get some stuff and give it a try. It would be fun to do a small run of something. Probably in resin first, I figure.

>>6007844
Absolutely. And I don't really know why.
>>
>>6002464
I will put them for sale and will use what's available. I've found a shore 80A urethan resin that will fit well. I can't preview what i'm doing but i think they will be available around december.

Wrestlers are pretty cool, and I remember being pretty into the ultimate muscle minis as a kid, back when the show was being dubbed by 4kids. I think those guys are considered keshi.

Kaiju too, although I'm more particular when it comes to monsters. Mummies, vampires and werewolves yeah, but not so much mutants, sewer people, and other disfigured types.

Ninjas and mecha are definitely a favorite.

>>6013968

The problem with collecting anything made by Moose toys is that if you want a complete set of anything they make you're going to end up with many many duplicate figures since they always seem to exclude certain figures from initial shipment that show up in later shipments.

Got my Doom Gotten today. They're pretty great and I really love the buildings. The only downside is that I had order two "imperfect" random figures and only got one. But for $1.50 I'll just assume it was an honest mistake.

The Baba Yaga is what made me get them, that hit some real Hellboy nostalgia and I couldn't resist.

I definitely want to try making some little kaiju of my own someday soon.

I want to make a fallout keshi line but i don't know if i can be sued. The solution could be to not use the name fallout,a la bootleg.
And i consider something like glyos system to have swappable head and stuff.
What do you think?
>>
>>6026904
If you're using resin and just want to switch heads and stuff I'd probably stick to a nice, sturdy peg-and-hole system rather than Glyos' ridged peg that snaps in. Resin is brittle enough it can break. Plus you also technically need to get Onell's permission if you're gonna sell any of the stuff.
>>
>>6026904

You think a softer urethane rubber would get rid of some of the breaking (like the Heihachi-looking demon's foot)?

Well he was specifically a cheap "impefect" figure, basically guaranteed to have bubbles or breaks. That's why he was so cheap.

They're pretty soft already, so I don't know.

You should definately ask glyos general for tips on how to get them made in glyos style. I think it's for sure doable, if you just make it a "apocalypse figures"-line, without the fallout brand, but still looking distinctly fallout-ey

And these are the only things from Paul Kaiju. For those of you who don't know, Paul Kaiju is probably the biggest creator in the scene. His stuff is super limited and highly sought after. Because of this, Paul only sells with a lottery system. I was fortunate enough to win, but my placement was so high all of the bigger scale stuff was sold. Something's better than nothing though.

Lastly, my favorite creator, Le Merde. This was his first time making anything since 2012, so naturally I was extremely excited. Unfortunately, he only made one offs for the event so they were way out of my price range. He did have a huge amount of backstock from over the years however, so I was at least able to grab something. The big guy in the middle is the highlight of the event for me. He was sold as an exclusive from Designer-con 2011 and I haven't been able to find one since, so when I saw he had one for sale AND it was less than retail I jumped at the chance.

Thanks for bearing with my spam guys, hope you liked the figures.

Sweet stuff, bruv. Those moai are tits. I really like that Paul Kaiju little bat, is it vinyl or resin?
Where designercon takes place?
>>
>>6030659
The Mockbat is vinyl. Here's what the full size looks like for comparison.

Designer-Con takes place in Pasadena, California. Tickets are extremely cheap compared to other conventions (I paid $15 for both days), so I highly recommend you check it out. A lot of people sell vintage American toys (think Ninja Turtles and He Man) too if that's your thing.

would anybody be interested in single colored/spray painted cheap keshi/sofubi figures like pic related? I always liked the aesthetic of ancient dilapidated statues but most recreations of them are just expensive knickknacks. Most popular sofubi are just spins on this concept but I think that a traditional rubber foo dog/baphomet/shiva/sphinx/moai heads or cryptics like kappas or mothman would be really cool
>>
>>6031343
Yes, actually. Specially pagan figures, like Baphomet, Moloch, Baal. I also dig cryptids.
But just cause I would be interested doesn't mean I could buy any, cause economy loves fucking me in the ass.

they drop without any warning really, but you can pick up some at art shows

this set dropped like three days ago, and if you aren't at the art show they debut at, you have to wait until vinyl shops get their limited stock (if they do)

after that there's some fb communities that resell sometimes, but rarely for the original price. Usually not as bad as ebay though

Konatsu does seem to busy making these though, she's dropped like 3 or 4 designs in the past two months?

there's also the color gashapon series that just started, called VAG, I think that's what this is
