For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

SD Group Build
Rules:
Pick up an SD anything, plane, Gundam/other MS, whatever, if it's generally an SD it counts (so I hope to see someone do a D-Style). Obviously, per all group builds, you'll want to paint it.
Submissions:
Email it to
USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS
Due Date: November 1st
Good news! A kind anon has purchased some prizes for the group build. He has decided to do a random drawing rather than judge them like I did in the previous group build. Winners will be contacted via email.
For those curious, I intend to start the secret Santa signups on October 1st.
Secret Santa
It's that time of year again. Just look at the form and fill it out. Signups last until December 1st, pairs go out in the days after that.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1
A few things:
-Use an active email, I don't want to be hounding you and then have to repair someone.
-Use your full address, I don't know every damn city and zip code in the US.
A new option, Cards Only. If you pick this you're assumed to be willing to ship international (it's a card after all). It doesn't have to be a handmade card, just something nice. Of course handmade is nicest, but not everyone has the skills for it.

First kit was a still incomplete RG Zaku-II I was given. First completed kit was the HG Kampfer. Still own both, no desire to get rid of them. Also I built a monster truck and a race car with my Dad way back when, think I still have those.

Thank you!
Hey guys,
I'm looking for some help.
I'm looking for pilots (female if possible) for 1/100 & 1/144.
Is there a place where I can buy them without mechas?
Just want to do some conversion work. Does not need to be official Gundam style.
Plus points for sci-fi chicks in tight suits.
>>5985793
I've not seen females sold separately
>>5985801
The ultimate Neo-Axis-Zeon weapon.
>>5985851
I've got the chogokin rathalos too and that thing is not far off actually
Been slacking on working on this since the orange stickers are so aweful. But I figured I will just leave them off the skirt and go solid red.
On a side note these thrusters are cuhrayzay! And those shoulder spikes are actually sharp.
Forgive me Anons, for I have sinned.
I have looked upon the 00 suits,
and realized I like the Union Flag,
Seraphim and Virtue.
Tell me, how do I atone for my sins?
>>5985973
kys for being an attention whore
So I have a GM Space Command type.
I want to paint the red parts black and highlight with gold, but what should I do with the white? I could just leave it black and white, but I'm considering a dark blue.
Reposting my question from last threead: is there anywhere with a comprehensive list of Evangelion kits? I'm looking to purchase a Unit 01, but I don't want to waste my money on a shit kit.

Eh, it works so long as you're not a hamhanded twit. It can give very small, precise gouges. Pic dime sized leg piece of an RG kit for example
>>5986196
yeah it just seems like a very strange and specific way to do something
>>5986197
Hey, whatever works anon. The drill/nail suggestion is fine for larger kits, but harder to accomplish on 1/144 scale
>>5986203
it shouldn't be too hard on smaller kits, you just need smaller nails/pins and a pin vice.
Do the master grade monoeyes look around on the z,gok like they do on the real grade?
>>5986212
A pin vice is a very valuable tool to have in your box. They aren't terribly expensive either.

I wanna build my first Gunpla. Last time I built a model was with my dad 20 years ago, so should I go for whatever the lowest grade is? Are there any kits you'd recommend to newfags? Preferably something from MSG or MSZG, it's all I've gotten through so far in my long adventure to watch all Gundam animated works. Though really anything is cool, i'll get around to watching whatever it comes from soon enough.
>>5986950

>>5987070
Not sure if I could pull off a RE yet. Still having trouble with the RG I have. Not from lack of wanting the Exam Efreet to go with my Blue Destiny Unit 1 and 2 though.
>>5987099

>>5986950
I'd recommend the following HG
>RX-78-2 Revive
>Try Burning Gundam
>Age-1
>IBO Barbatos/Lupus
>HGUC RX-78 MK2
>>5987121
MK2 is RX-178
>>5987121

>>5987121

>>5987134
The Revive does look great, thanks for the heads up.
>>5987148
I might pick it up if it drops to under $30 on Amazon.
Gone on a bit of a trying new hobbies streak and currently just waiting for an order for my first gunpla.
Got back into Gundam through Iron Blooded Orphans, after not watching it for a good 14 years.
Have I made a mistake on ordering the 1/100 Barbatos. It looks really nice, and was a toss up between that and the 1/144 Gusion Rebake.
Just read through the starter guide
>>5987219
yes because barbatos is a shit
especially when the lupus exists
>>5987219
IBO is good, Barbatos is good. You sound solid to me, welcome aboard the gunpla train.
>>5986415
I've ordered twice with Unregistered SAL, both got to me within three weeks. It's low priority mail, so it does take a while.

Friends,
is there any "snakeish" kit for 1/100 1/144, does not need to be gundam. I want to make some custom stuff. Snake tail, mecha body etc..
So I have a build in mind atm using HG/RG parts that incorporate bits from Astaroth, Wing Gundam, Scramble Gundam and Gyancelot.
Wanting to mesh in the clear blue bits from the Scramble Gundam in the joints, such as the knees and forearms, and utilizing Astaroths head and bits from Gyancelots body and arms. Still need to decide if I want to go standard back pack or wing faggortry and what to use for weapons
Is the older Zaku 2 FZ commander head compatible with the new Zaku 1 body?
pls respond
>>5987219
Barbatos is still a solid kit even if IBO was pretty bad. You did good ordering the 1/100 over the 1/144 Rebake, which is a bad kit in my opinion.
>>5987701
use the wing pack
>>5987062
The re100 line is fucking awesome.
My favorite is still the gundam mk iii
Why do I love late uc gundam so much
Then why do the mg crossbones and v2 have such fundamental frame problems, like crossbone falling apart and the arm problem with the v2
>>5987945
How is the Mk-III? Was looking at it earlier, but Amazon lacked any reviews. Figured it might be a nice change from the half dozen Mk-II kits I have purchased this year in different grades.
>>5987967
I love mine. It's got nice undergates and builds really smoothly.
>>5987967
It's tall and lanky. Great representation of its lineart.
The backpack has a habit of coming loose on mine but that's the only problem.
>>5987769
Should be compatible with each other since they both use the sized polycap for the 'neck'
Hell, you could even use No Grade 1/144 heads on HG 1/44 kits.
Well I finally finished the straight built of the HG Psycho Zaku. I really like the main unit but the backpack is even larger than I imagined. I couldn't even begin to think of where I can place it.
I can't imagine the room the MG version will take up.
I feel like I'm taking an eternity doing this. It took me a solid 30 minutes just to cut parts out of the runner on one section of an RG, let alone sanding them down.
How long can pic related's battery last if I leave it on forever?
>>5988036

ByMabuseon November 30, 2008
but it is for assembly. I was a bit surprised, when the Gundam Nataku arrived as a model kit in many plastic pieces.
However, it was relatively easy to built due to the very good Japanese manual with many pictures(!). Even if you don't speak Japanese - I know only some basic words, you can built it.
It is surprisingly easy, because you 'click' the single pieces together and the irritating bunch of plastic pieces suddenly becomes the Nataku! Amazing. My Japanese wife told me that the Japanese engineers have a patent on this click and build technology. Really interesting.
I bought this for my eight year old daughter, who loves Gundam but I built it - well...
It was fun to built it but some small parts were missing and some were not part of the plan. The parts were missing maybe because my daughters were taking off the parts from their holders first and put it back into the paper box. However, nothing important was missing.
The model is not painted but looks already very good without paint. According to the indiviual model building skills of the builder, the Nataku can look very good and is relatively stable. But also only with putting the pieces together, the Nataku looks very nice and is worth the money.
The model is stable but not too much. I guess it won't survive a throw against the wall. You can move many parts, the arms, claws, upper body and legs which gives you a great amount of positions to put the Gundam. It is about 20 cm or 7.9 inches tall - guess.
All in all, I would say, highly recommended, fun to build and fun to play with it. It is an original Japanese model set, produced by Bandai with Japanese description.
Have fun!
Looking to get my younger brother a Shenlong or Altron model for Christmas, but I have no idea which scale or anything to buy. Could I get any sort of help, please? It would be really appreciated.
>>5988316
The MGs are both good but one's a standard release that goes for around $35 and the other is a P-Bandai kit that goes for $100

Looks like they're really trying to stretch out the Origin line some more. Feels like they're really pulling some of these kits out of their ass.
>>5988215
According to its manual and MSD page material it was supposed to be based on the rx-78-1 and sort of like the GM Ground and early types with gathering data to use towards a true mass production line. But then the RX-78-1 got destroyed at side 7 so the plan was scrapped because the -1 never finished testing.
>>5988399
Funny thing is they could easily do some pretty good variants. I would love to see them do MSD versions of the Z'gok and Gelgoog, and add in other GMs.
With all the talk of MSD/MSV/Origin kits, how many of you posting here would purchase kits of the original designs of the Gundam/Guncannon/Guntank?
>>5988434
I'd want that Guntank if only to put in some flashing LEDs and make it some 70's/80's era toy robot.
>>5988437
it IS an 80's toy robot anon
>>5988383
Do these bootleg kits come in color or do are they essentially garage kits?

>>5988829
The PG Unicorn only has stickers I think. At least that's what mine came with
$30 for a SD three pack, does this seem overpriced for how small the SD line is?
>>5988865
Most SDs are 10 dollars a pop. What pack is it?
>>5988868
SD Zeta MS Collection. Pricing the Hundred Shiki and the Titans Mk-II, are about $20 each on Amazon, where I can get the three pack for $30.29.
With the rock bottom price of the RX-78-2 Revive or original HG, is it a decent suit to hand paint? Saw a what-if version of the Gundam and want to try to paint one up, but it will be my first time painting a model. Picture related.
>>5988661
Get the Revoltechs. Jehuty and Vic Viper are like $30-40 and Anubis is $60ish.
>>5988877
Easy to paint. The only real seams you even have to worry about if you seam weld are on the head and weapons and a simple one along the torso.
Excellant part separation all around and the kit itself is perfect for simple customs for beginners too.
>>5988890
Also, I would suggest completely painting over the clear eye parts or just using the sticker. The made the clear part too thick so once you paint the black around the eyes they basically become invisible, even if you paint the backing in silver.
>>5988892
Yes.
That was a fun little build.
>>5988927
Looks good. Solid build?
>>5988937
Yeah, only downsides are the leg and backpack stickers, which will probably fall off any moment now.
Wish he came with more shields too, I had to pinch two from the other Thunderbolt GM I bought.
>>5988833
I actually really like that color and scheme.
>>5986302
Too bad 7/11s in the US are maintained by lazy trash people.
Went to one about a month ago and the fountain drink station looked like someone melted hairy jolly ranchers over everything. Three lazy employee fuckers were just standing around gossiping.
And these kind of people think they deserve $15 an hour...
>premium Bandai prices
I'd love a Pale Rider, but 3200 Yen...
>>5988946
I swear near where I work within one mile of each other, on the same exact road, are five 7-11s. They all sell the same things, they're all run by Indians (Not native americans), and only two of them actually have gas pumps.
And they're all dimly lit and filthy on the inside.
That said I like this 7-11 pg astray. Kind of surprised they went with a sort of aquamarine for the frame.
I want to paint my FA:G's in a unified color scheme so that I can freely swap parts and accessories between them. I was thinking maybe like pic related with varying skin tones between the girls. I definitely want them to have the same color palette, but not monochrome. Thoughts or ideas?
>>5989071
nazi colors
german grey on everything
>>5989121
Fun fact: Hugo Boss designed all the uniforms the Nazis wore.
>>5989121
dunkelgelb tends to look better imo.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone else on /gunpla/ tend to grab kits in pairs or sets? Stuff like Sazabi and Nu, or any of the other rival suits? Mostly asking since I am beginning gunpla, but am one of those autists with obsessive compulsive, and feel the overwhelming urge to get two models instead of just one, irregardless of what it is. GM and Zaku II, Gundam and Neo Zeong, etc.
>>5989245
I don't buy in sets, but I do make a point of trying to get the lead Gundam as an MG and all the rival suits/grunts as HGs. They wouldn't be displayed next to each other, but I would like to have at least the two main good and bad guys from each series.
>>5989245
I just buy things I like and fuck the rest. I care more about scale than series or faction, but even that requires some flexibility.
>>5989129
>Hugo Boss designed all the uniforms the Nazis wore.
Not all of the uniforms, just the uniforms for the SS.
>>5989245
I've bought squads of machines before.
Been cutting up a graze frame to make an IBO style suit. Got the head so far but I'm probably going to have to spend some time drawing ideas of how the rest should look before I get much farther so it looks unified.
>>5989339
Doodling ideas is one of the best parts of making customs. Too bad I mostly can only do little scribbly doodles.
>>5989339
???
>>5989352
The resulting parts-fit after playing around with parts.
>>5989355
I like the bazooka choice, do you have 2 square shoulders for the zaku? think it might fight better than the spike type for this.
>>5989381
None that are the same size unfortunately. Turns out that the zaku Himo has a slightly smaller and slimmer shield than the f2, and the hizak shield is even worse.
>>5989386
no big deal, just thought it would be neat to try out if you had one
>>5989245
I often buy a kit I like, build it, realize it looks dumb just standing around alone, and buy something fitting to pose it against.
>>5989352
I think I've seen a tf designer's concept sketches being pretty much a doodle like yours. 100% fidelity is not important for concepts. Your doodles are fine.
>>5989402
I mean here he's sort of combining two things that already existed, where there is a clear idea of the shape at least, so more than a doodle might not be necessary.
What do you guys think of my God Gundam? this was my 1st attempt at a MG and adding extra details.
Before this I had made an HG 1/144 wing gundam with no extras; and a 1/60 Exia with no details either (not the Perfect Grade, I was Still in High School, didn't know much)
>>5989466
>adding extra details
like what
>>5989466
Looks good to me. Nice work.
What does Mandarake usually charge for RSAL?
Canada for what it matters.
>>5989474
doing any sort of painting for the black lines to make it more accurate to the show
>>5989476
1200 upwards, usually. Obviously more or less depending on weight but they pack quite tightly hence more weight.
Anyone knows the differences between MicroScale and MicroSol? I thought one helped decals adhere better and the other softened them to get into panels lines / onto rivets, but reading the amazon reviews, they seems to both kinda do the same thing
>>5989521
Micro Set and Micro Sol*
My bad.
>>5989502
>1200
God damn, I just want my P-Bandai.
>Already late October
>Still no new information on this
I don't hold any opinion on AoZ but I was excited for this, dang it.
>>5989587
Woundwart? Looks a bit familiar.
>>5989071
hmm. I never thought of that. I might try this.
Probably everything varying levels of grey with a single random pastel highlight color
>>5989600
Yep. This kit was teased last December >>5317407, but there's been no new information on it. I first found out about it on SamuelDecal's facebook page, but for whatever reason the post was hidden/deleted afterward.
>>5989604
Shame, TR series is such a good looking series. Would go great on a shelf next to the three Hazel kits that are available.
Haul came in today. Can't wait to break the side cutters in.
>>5989245
>Gundam and Neo Zeong
I think you mean just the Zeong.
Vidar Model now colored.
>>5988477
This Unicorn is THICC
How is Dragon Momoko's quality compared to Bandai? Do you think there is going to be fitting problems on this kit?
>>5989643
>TAMIYA SCRIBER II
you should have asked bro
>>5989665
What's wrong with that scriber?
>>5989669
it's great for plane fuselages and not much else
>>5989671
Oh, what makes a scriber good for Gunpla then?
>>5989671
I use it for getting straight lines in styrene sheets and shit and it's perfect for that.
>>5989646
Nah man, the Neo. It helps to counter plot armor.
I goofed. So hard.
>>5989691
same kind of thing, any long straight lines it's fine for, but that's not what most people who are buying side nippers are buying a scriber for, they want to be a true customu master like on buildo fightahs
>>5989671
I have this scriber. Is it regarded as good?
>>5989700
yeah any round style scriber is roughly equivalent, theyre good for like setting lines, especially good at corners in a line
>>5989700
it's a needle, not a scriber, it cuts v-shaped grooves only
it's fine for small circles and such but not much else
>>5989694
DID SOMEBODY SAY BUILDO FIGHTAH?!
How it is already three years old is beyond me.
What are you guys building tonight? Friend is finishing off his first build, Astray. I'm working on a Gouf custom. Hoping to teach him the finer points of panel lining soon.
>>5989720
>lining up all of your pieces like a chocolate box
>finer points of using a marker
>4 million by 4 million image
BRO WHAT
>>5989720
I'm going to prep some pieces for my 1/144 Gusion, maybe make my first attempt at a proper wash.
>>5989726
It's build night, anon.
>>5989720
roadwheels. Its just the same pieces over and over, far from interesting enough for a picture desu.
>>5989720
Was going to toss a Sazabi together, but ended up talking to my friend with terminal cancer. It's a sad night it seems.
>>5989671
It's not for scribing at all. It's a scoring tool. The blade head is way too wide for any scribing but it's perfect for scoring. Literally almost the same size as a utility scoring tool.
>>5989754
Ah, what's a good scriber to get then? The guide doesn't really cover this.
We're do you guys find bootleg kits? I'm thinking of getting a daban pg
>>5989776
It's not like you couldn't do it with this scriber, you just have to be very, very careful. Also fine control
It's great for scratch building though
>>5989526

I think all my shipping from Moonland is free, unless I want it a few weeks early. I'll find out once I order my next kit sometime soon.
>>5989842
THANKS
It's onto the rest of his fuck huge armament
>>5989832
there are tons of red comet suits dude
>>5989834
I like it, maybe I'll try to take some shitty pictures of roadwheels for you.
>>5989844
The heat sword is odd to put on the shield, in my experience. Good kit, but the Revive version is superior I have heard. I built the Custom before the standard, so my bar was raised pretty high.
How do you all feel about an RG F91?
>>5989846
Thanks, anon.
That's all I asked for.
>>5989824
I'm just butthurt because I paid like 400-500 yen per item with HLJ, although that could easily be because I bought a couple items and it all came in one package. I fully expect to get fucked when I buy my first PG kit.
>>5989850
>superior
How so? I've heard nothing but good of the custom.
>>5989862
I meant the Revive to the standard Gouf HG. Custom is a really great build. Mine has posing and standing issues, but having been my second kit I probably was the cause of that. Sorry for not being clear with that- I would recommend the Gouf Custom to anyone interested in gunpla.
>>5989867
Yeah, I compared the custom to the revive when picking it and went for this because I had it had very good arm strength.
>>5989859
Its not all of them yet, still got a fair amount to do.
>>5989875
Christ almighty.
>>5989875
Use the T-34 as a mount for your Gouf.
>>5989838
I missed it looking on dalong. It was as J.Ridden and I ctrl+F Johnny and didn't see it and I couldn't find one on amiami
>>5989877
its honestly not that bad. Each one of the larger wheels is 3 pieces. there are 10 of them then the sprockets and idlers. The plastic is a little bit harder than I care for, close to some of the plastic koto used a few years back for the muv luv kits.
>>5989880
I don't have any gouf kits though. I am working on a zaku MG right now but ironically I find the pipes and tubes to be more taxing than roadwheels.
>>5989893
Taxing may not be the right word, troublesome might have been better. I recently started working on some of my gunpla backlog after switching to mostly armor. I think after the Zaku II I'm going to begin working on the HMM Gojulas that's been collecting dust for the last couple of years.
So, when mixing washes is there any indicator I can use to tell if I got the ratios right or close to right without actually painting?
Dragon Momoko Pale Rider when
>>5989838
Huh, didn't know char had a high-mobility type suit
>>5989911
Four times as fast!
>>5989651
Getting way too easy to tell it's Kimaris.
Besides primer I've heard you can sand the plastic so that the paint will stick. How coarse should the grit be? 600 or 1200?
>>5989959
if you are using spray cans or an airbrush primer isn't as necessary unless you are doing a dramatic color shift.
>>5989959
>1200 grit sandpaper
I mean that might be nice for polishing or whatever but I'd use at least 600 grit for sanding. Actually, I'd probably prep with a grit around 400~ and you could probably get away with an even lower grit count.
>>5989972
I was worried that I might deform the piece or remove details with 600.Though I guess that'd only happen if I sand too much
>>5989907
Test it. You'll come to recognise the consistency with experience
>>5989521
Microset is weaker and should be used first.
Microsol is powerful enough to prevent you from moving most decals after its application
>>5989975
You'd have to be mindful of details with a 400 grit but with 600 I wouldn't worry very much at all. The idea behind sanding the surface is to rough up the surface so the paint has a porous surface to adhere to.
Stopping point for tonight.

Started building Tallgeese. Nice little kit so far
>>5990075

Same.

Nah, No-grade Strike.
>>5989726
Literally nothing wrong with panel lining using an ultra fine point sharpie. Its panel lining eazimodo
>>5990198
Close I suppose. Thanks for the answer.
>>5990211
>Close I suppose. Thanks for the answer.
Yeah, when Hobby Link Japan was having their Summer Customize Deal, they had a few SEED No-grades on the qualifying list for $2.50 apiece.
Since I wanted more of those damned Customize Kits, I tried to order as many as I could, but for some un-explained reason they've got a "One per customer" limit on them, so I got the Strike and the Duel for generic filler Gundams.
Also have a No-Grade Sword Impulse coming for those sweet, sweet Anti-Ship Swords, but it went to back-order when I first tried to make this one.
