2016 G.I. Joe 2 & 3 Packs - Toys “R” Us
2pks:
>Arashikage Duel: Snake Eyes (PoC) vs. Storm Shadow (Renegades) – will alternate heads
>Zombie Horde: Zombie Viper x 2
>Sinister Allies: Cobra Viper (PoC) vs. Iron Grenadier (25th)
>Heavy Conflict: Heavy Duty (new) vs. Stiletto (Kindle Worlds figure)
>Mission Accepted: Duke (inspired by classic 1983 look) vs. Tombstone (New character- Duke’enemy)

3pks:
>Cobra Legion: Cobra BAT, SAW Viper, Female Cobra Officer (with pony tail)
>Special Forces: Night Force Outback, NF Lt Falcon, Shooter (w/ rifle case and rifle)
>>
>>5979850

Damn those are wicked. Bet I never see any of them
>>
>>5979850
>>5979850

>Arashikage Duel:
Picked up the two that i found. That SE body is great for customs and so is the SS.
>Zombie Horde:
Passed as i have plenty of POC ZVs some still in their package but this set will be super hard to find.
>Sinister Allies: Cobra Viper (PoC) vs. Iron Grenadier (25th)
Passed. The Viper does not have a Chrome head and i have enough POC versions. Its a good set if you dont have either figures.
>Heavy Conflict:
Picked up 2 sets. Nice figures. Stilleto's headsculpt is weak and it's whats keeping it from being a great figure. The body itself is well painted and looks good.
>Mission Accepted:
The colors they chose for this figure is just weird. Could of been a decent Duke with the proper color choices. Tombstone looks interesting but i passed on the set because Tombstone's face was all jacked up. Hopefully it was just the set i found and not all of them.
3pks:
>Cobra Legion:
Pretty sweet set. Saw Viper is my favorite figure in the set. Great parts selection and the colors they chose really pop and look great. The femail officer is my second favorite of the set. She has a very soft body sculpt though. There is not much detail and you can barely tell its a female body. Still its a nice figure to have. The BAT, well its a BAT. Nothing exiting about that figure. Overall a great army builder set. Snagged 5 so far.
>Special Forces:
Outback really suprised me. He is a good looking figure. You can remove the webgear and he has his survival shirt underneath. So that was a nice touch. He looks goods both ways. Shooter is nice but suffers from the soft body sculpt since it shares the torso with the Femal Officer from the other 3 pack. She comes with a new sniper rifle that is totaly killer! Going to have to pick up a few sets just for the rifle alone. Falcon is a waste of a figure slot. The body isnt very usefull for custom fodder either. Still the set is a definite pickup due.
>>
>>5979940
>Viper does not have a Chrome head

Wha? Damn, that sucks. It sure looks like it in every pic I've seen.

You are correct sir. The joints are a paint to work with but the figure looks pretty nice especially after giving it a good drybrushing to bring out the details. I also painted the teeth metallic steel so you can actually see them. She is a perfect size for 1:18th figures too. Hopefully Hiya will release the Predators soon.

Eh. As nice as the chrome looks it's always terrifying turning their head for the first time. I've got a PoC Viper I swore I'd finally worked safely loose after alternating between the freezer and warm water and the neck ball still came right off.

The Collector's Club also said they weren't able to get their Sky Patrol vehicles chromed because the factory refused due to environmental hazards so maybe that's why.
>>
>>5980249
the collector's club uses a different, cheaper factory
>>
>>5980322
Doesn't mean it wasn't for the same reason. Hasbro's also been moving their manufacturing out of China so regulations may be different.
>>
I haven't seen them in store yet. Can someone tell me if the eyes are as fucked as they were with the last two 50th assortments where they look like they could have been done with a white-out pen? Would I be safe ordering online or do I need to cherry pick?
>>
I don't like chrome on toys anyway, and these chromed GI Joe heads use that more brittle plastic. I've mad more than a few crack on me when swapping them.

The articulated marvel and star wars 1/18 stuff are still done in China too. I guess they are still too complex to shift over to Vietnam/India.

Have The Corps! figures gotten any better over the years? I noticed them at Wal-Mart and they looked a lot cooler than they did in years past. I was just wondering if anyone had bought any recently.
>>
>>5980585
Supposedly new ones might have ball jointed hips instead of T crotch swivel.

There are two new female Corps! figures but I haven't picked them up to check.

>>

>>
>>5980941
>Only the new female figures have the new hips.
Corps! introduced some new characters on their brand website through a one page web comic. It's possible that the construction used for the two new female characters may be a new design going forward.
>>
>>5980852
The civil war MCU figures are budgeted like the Antman figure. They have full rocker ankles, a waist swivel cut (except Black panther), no wrist joints, torso rotation. Peggy Carter/Agent 13 has additional joints because she uses some Avengers1 ScarJo parts.

Absolutely atrocious. What kind of firefight tactics are you demonstrating outside of lets-all-fucking-die? No one is taking cover, everyone is rushing in, no one is checking the corners, not applying cover and move (the most fundamental firefight tactic ever) and half your team is in its own line of fire and probably shooting their own teammates. Be something other than a gigantic fucking faggot and have your figures using some kind of cover, adding suppressive fire to the aliens, and acting like someone who collects GI Joes and not some zero-tactic my little pony bullshit. Fucking cock sucker

At this scale they're practically identical. WWII German small arms are pretty well covered in 1:18. If you're willing to do a little work, there's an MG 15 and a Lewis gun in the Star Wars line.

How's everyone's 50th hunt going? I've raided Toys R Us 4 times now, and bought up an entire case of two packs at one store, snagged all the Saw Viper sets at another and purchased multiple of the Special Forces sets. And just today I raided another Toys R Us and got another zombie two pack and the IG/Viper pack again.

The new Duke is the best Duke figure they ever produced in the modern era in my opinion. He's much better than I anticipated.

I'm also liking Stiletto, though she'd look better if they painted her scars, because you can barely notice them otherwise and so it makes one of her eyes seem smaller due to no paint on the scars.
>>
>>5992500
So far all I've found is a single Special Forces 3-pack that I passed on because Outback had a large paint defect on his face.

Finally broke down and ordered a set from BBTS.
>>
>>5992500
No luck at all.
>>
>>5992500

Found everyone but the Saw Viper sets. Snagged two packs of Zombies and IG/Viper. Grabbed one of each of the other two packs save Snake-Eyes/Storm Shadow since I had those two.

I don't mind not getting the Saw Viper pack since I bought it and 1 Zombie/IG & Viper two-pack at TF Con.

So in all I'm content.

See, now this KS has reasonable levels and rewards. From the get go you can just get blank bodies and accessory packs and all the troop builders you want.

Unlike a certain Cowboy Kickstarters...

I might back this just to support not dumb toy campaigns.

Plus $18 each for pic related is pretty reasonable as far as crowdfunded figures go. I like the red one. He could definitely be a Cobra trooper.

I've been keeping an eye on the new Corps! stuff. It looks great so far. Also the Corps! creative director has confirmed that four new characters will have new articulation, like the new female characters from this past year (ball jointed hips). So that's exciting. Also the new tank looks really good.

I WISH.
Their Imperial Guard are some of the most simplistic, yet iconic designs ever.

Well, maybe they're like the Space Marines, but without that massive bulk to even out all the busyness.

The heads are just too big and ornate with the Screamerz figures.

You have no idea what contrarian means.

For me to be a contrarian, that would mean that the Corps figures are popular and highly valued for their designs.
I dont even see people gushing over the old GI Joe space figures and they're by far more popular.

So it can't possibly be contrarian to dislike an unknown line with overly busy designs.

>contrarian

>noun con·trar·i·an \kən-ˈtrer-ē-ən, kän-\

>a person who takes an opposite or different position or attitude from other people
>>
>>5999100
It's a bit confusing. Are the Hell Reaperz the only carded figures that don't come with glow-in-the-dark heads? Why is shipping an extra $3 per add-on item when they're all going to ship together anyway and why is shipping apparently free for some of the larger sets (like the 6-unit exclusive boxed sets)? I'm planning to pledge but at this point there seems to be a lot of errors (like the larger jump troop add-ons being priced wrong) so I think I'm going to wait and see what gets corrected and clarified.

Also I'm a bit wary because I have no idea who these people are or what their industry experience is, whereas all the other toy Kickstarters I've backed had the Four Horsemen or Boss Fight involved.

A contrarian is someone who takes the opposite position just because it's a popular view.
At the very least, it's
>Someone who automatically tends to take the opposite point of view from the person to whom they're speaking
And the guy i replied to didn't even say it didn't look busy or that it's even good. In fact, he makes a contrarian statement

>I might back this just to support not dumb toy campaigns.
since the only other kickstarter going on that /toy/ is talking about is the already funded popular cowboy one.

>>>6000894
I think it's safe to support, since they seem to have been trying to get their line started since 2013.
Doing a simple google has them shopping the line around since then. So they probably as safe to order as no-experience guys like Boss Fight.
Just because Boss Fight sculpted toys for Hasbro doesn't mean they know all about production, given the fact a sculptor wouldn't be handling anything on the business side of things, muchless using factories that Hasbro uses.

The Boss Fight guys were designers for Hasbro. They had no manufacturing experience. As far as I know none of the 1:18 guys had experience besides Marauder. That includes Eagle Force, Adventure People, Cowboys, Legion, Hell Screamers, and Zombie Lab.
>>
>>6004068
>>6001406

The Four Horsemen had no manufacturing experience either, but when the factory tried to fuck them over on the Fan's Choice elephants they were able to call-up their friends over at SOTA to help them get their moulds because they networked and had connections through their experience in the industry. The guys at Boss Fight also have connections from all their time at Hasbro and for all the work they did with other companies like Fun Publications. The companies they're currently working with have the benefit of their professional relationship with them.

I'm not asking if this Solomon Witt guy has manufacturing experience, I'm wondering about his experience with the industry in general. They've got Boss Fight Studios listed in their "thanks" and the ex-Hasbro guys from PlayWithThisToo listed as collaborators under the bio page but I don't know what exactly that entails. PlayWithThisToo doesn't seem to have made any mention apart from a link on their Twitter. His bio page is completely empty of any biographical information.

I mean the presentation looks great and I want him to be successful but I don't know who this guy is, what he's done, or who he has professional relationships with and that's the sort of thing I worry about when throwing money at a stranger for something that doesn't exist yet.
>>
>>6004115
>SOTA
NECA helped the Four Horsemen.

SOTA's experience is "don't pay factories, get upset when factories steal molds and make bootlegs."
>>
>>6004133
Yeah, thanks. I don't know how I got them mixed up seeing as SOTA apparently sucks at recovering moulds.
>>
>>6004133
>"don't pay factories, get upset when factories steal molds and make bootlegs."
After reading and experience problems with Chinese factories, SOTA was either expected to pay for things the Chinese factories lied about or face getting their stuff withheld and bootlegged outright instead of someone "misplacing" the molds.
>>
>>6004115
So basically, 4H networking with an experienced toy manufacturer makes them trustworthy, but Solomon's networking with experienced toy manufacturers doesn't?
Huh?

I'm not going to pretend to know how they managed to choose a factory to make their toys, but most times they're recommended by experienced players in the industry.
Someone who isn't on the ball or generally foolish would be pretty obvious in how disorganized they are.
I think the HACKS guys were bordering on this with how they were pricing things, but i guess artists aren't so good with maths.

With what >>6000894 says about the shipping, it's purely a cost thing (shipping is costly) and them trying to herd people into committing more money than having people just pick and choose a couple of things.
>>
>>6004239
>SOTA was either expected to pay for things the Chinese factories lied about or face getting their stuff withheld and bootlegged outright instead of someone "misplacing" the molds.
Don't get me wrong, the factories they dealt with were corrupt as shit. But SOTA didn't have any problems that any other toy maker doesn't have to face with crooked Chinese factories, yet somehow they got their molds stolen and bootlegged when everyone else didn't.

Because Jerry Macaluso cheaped out when choosing factories and got burned, then blamed them for the quality and didn't pay. SOTA had so many problems with their rep in China that when he eventually vanished the people at SOTA that were left had to deal with factories not used to making quality toys(Lovecraft line was made at a factory that normally made dog toys) then eventually had to change the name of the company to try and get decent toy factories to work with them again.

If you just choose to listen to Jerry Macaluso, he's self-serving as shit. He was a pill-popping lunatic who spent SOTA's money on a sports car for himself and vanished one day with no word for months. Then when his partner finally took over the company he reappeared and started badmouthing them. Macaluso is a scumbag who is good friends with the Shocker Toys guy and shares similar ideas about the toy industry. Good sculptor with good connections but he's shady as shit and a liar.

I don't doubt the guy's an asshole, but an arrogant shit would piss off a Chinese factory enough to just take their shit just because they can without consequences instead of dealing with an asshole. Bosses like him will be raving mad over being ripped off and would get his way eventually... if it was a factory based in a country that doesnt have a government backing all those cheats and frauds.
>cheaped out when choosing factories and got burned
I really doubt this, as they actually delivered good quality products. The only reason other companies companies dont get ripped off is because they make enough money to make the company not rip them off. It's like how 4H was able to get their molds back, because of NECA threatening not to use them anymore.

Of course, now you're seeing Chinese factories straight up producing bootlegs from the same factory or/and selling runoffs. Those Chinese factories are seeing the writing on the wall and taking advantage of the tools while they still can, before production is sent to other places.
Is it because Hasbro, NECA, Play Arts, Good Smile, etc are being cheap? NOPE. Just greedy chinese assholes being greedy chinese assholes.

Their movie figs were good, but their SF figures used to fall apart really easily. Broken wrist pegs, frozen joints etc.

Anyway I heard all this shit from a former SOTA employee. Sorry to keep shitting up the thread with non-1/18 stuff though.

Here's a 1/18 factoid: those Palisades blind box 1:18 Terminator figures that almost came out(they went under before they did) were sculpted by SOTA for Palisades.

Finally got my hands on the latest 50th Joes! Grabbed two of the Cobra Legion, which is all I really want from this wave, though I may grab Stiletto. Feels great to get some new Joes, even though it's unfortunately pretty much become a once a year event

Was looking forward to the SAW Viper the most. He is a great looking figure and I love seeing the return of the Retaliation M249 sculpt (one of the best weapons Hasbro has made, imo), but I'm so disappointed with how limited his arm articulation is. No hope of being able to get a good two-handed grip on the SAW.

On a lot of figures (the saw viper included) I use an exacto and carefully take a crescent out of their elbow. You can get a good extra 20-30° of bend with barely any sacrifice to the sculpt.

>>6008203
May give that a try as the SAW Viper could definitely use some more elbow bend, if I can find my exacto (which is a big if, as it's been lost for a couple years now, haha). I especially dislike how the SAW Viper can barely raise his arms.

I skipped last year's 50th offerings because I was pissed about the QC issues from the year before (bits of paper fiber stuck to Leatherneck's arm, paint slop all over Destro, two left tail lights on the exclusive VAMP, googly eyes everywhere). Hit the stuck joints with some hot water and slowly and gently apply pressure. Sometimes it helps to use a hobby knife alongside the joint line if its really fused.

>>6016961
With stuck pegs the hot near-boiling water like this anon said >>6016890 is the best way to go.

with broken hands you can go 2 routes, fix the peg or replace the hand, you will need a pin or a pin vise in both cases.

First you need to extract the broken peg from the hand, using your pins or a sewing needle you can dig a hole in the center of the broken peg inside the hand, then put some super glue (be careful here) on the the tip of a pin or wire and put it in the hole, wait until is dry, then use some hot water to soften the plastic so you can pull the broken piece.

Now you can try to fix the hand using the pin method or you can replace the hand.

Loving the H.A.C.K.S. system. I may order more female blanks, not too interested in the limited articulation on the male legs.

Left to right is destined to become:

He'll need forelegs with proper boots, so I'll need to get a good set and paint them silver. Surfer shoulld have open hands, not "holding something" hands, so I'll have to get those. And he'll need a decent head without or with smaller ears because the ears bother me.

And he'll need a board. I have a few, will have to spray it with Mithril silver.

Need a little help here.

Whats the absolute highest articulated military series in the 1/18 scale, that isn't acid rain?

I'm not gonna go as far as to say they aren't worth the 30$ a pop, but fuck me man, i gotta eat

I understand newer joes have ankle rockers and wrist hinges but they aren't quite the standard on alot of the better looking figures.
>>
>>6018523

Best 1:18 articulation is going to come from the "Jim Lee Cyclops" buck from Marvel Legends.

It's a featureless musclebody but has the following articulation:

Neck swivels forward and back, has a balljoint on top of that.

Shoulder "balls" that are really swivels that peg into the torso on one side and the bicep on the other.

Elbow bends back and forth... The only real shortcoming is it's not double jointed.

Wrist joints are pegholes so if you want, you can plug in hands that bend, or just simple joestyle hands.

Ab joint is balljoint style, connects to upper torso.

Codpiece has swivel waist, hips are handled as balljoints.

Legs have hip balljoint sockets, thigh swivels, double knees, calf swivels, and ankle rockers.

All in all, given the arm's slight shortcoming, the figure itself is excellent as a custom base.

Most figures built on the buck, such as Angel, Mysterio, Black suit FF Spider-Man, Namor the Sub-Mariner etc. are cheap to obtain. Usually running you less than $10 a pop. And with some webgear, paintwork, and light modifcation could make okay soldiers.

A second option, though not entirely as cheap, would be the Marauder Task Force bodies. They're Military-style uniforms in a variety of colors.

If you're willing to wait, the recent female CORPS figures are representative of how the line is going in the future. And the World Peacekeepers military figures, while barrel-chested, have something like 22 poa.

I'm honestly excited about just some plain civilians and police officer.

Mind you since the Zombie Labs are using the same system as the Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S that'll make for easy meaty undead Greek and fantasy (and beyond) parts mix and match.

Just got that email, oh baby they're looking good and soon to start shipping.

Got the email as well.

I was asking and they may be doing some underwater gear (masks n fins I guess) in a few months.
This also makes me happy.

And on an unrelated note..
Anyone know if any re-castors or customisers are making the Capt.Ace bubble Helmet or "vintage" gas masks like the pic attached or with the filter "snout"?

Looks really nice, I'm already imagining, in my universe Shooter and notshooter are sisters and they reunite with all the family for Thanksgiving or Christmas
