I'm a Beast Wars kid, but I have a healthy appreciation for G1 thanks to the reissue series from the early 2000's and Big Lots/Easter baskets with bootleg G1 combiner teams. I really like the aesthetic of the Diaclone/ first few year's stuff, though not so much the later ones from Headmasters and beyond. My favorite is Ultra Magnus. I'd love to see a proper update of the Diaclone toy, or a reimagining in the new diaclone line.

Crazybolt is pretty damn great for a gimmick toy. Fairly poseable, a good shape - all unlike the other deployers.

You can even fix the totally intrusive spring catch thing with a rubber band (though you might want to use a black one).

I recently replaced my Hasbro Hardhead's faceplate with a Shapeways-made IDW Faceplate, and I noticed something odd.

When the headmaster is plugged in correctly, it doesn't pop out, but the head shifts and wiggles a lot. However, if I plug the headmaster head in backwards, it doesn't wiggle around any, but it's not a secured fit and will pull out if I hold it by the head.

Anybody else experience that?

UW Superion looks like the same guy who took a piss on G1 Shining Magnus took a piss on Silverbolt too. UW Menasor has the ugly edgy black Motormaster and unpainted yellow plastic Drag Strip. UW Defensor has some of the worst paint jobs I've seen in years, especially on Hot Spot. UW Bruticus is a mess of poor QC and poor coloration choices.

All in all, Hasbro won CW/UW. The only place they lost was Computron.

Yes. It works well with a few figures, but on the Hardhead mold (mostly due to the TM tiny head connector), you'll wear down the port really fast doing that, and the tiny TM head will get stressed (only on Furos so far).

It took almost a year (11 months, give or take) for them to release Groove AFTER Takara released him, so we won't see Shuttle Blast Off until May, if they decide to release him.

Okay, so I opened my knockoff Masterpiece Rumble and Ravage set. I dunno but these figures do not seem worth the $59.99 BBTS is asking. Is that why they're still in stock? They barely seem worth the $20 I paid. The Titans Return versions seem bigger too.

Well of course the Legends class figures would be bigger than something that turns into an accurately sized microcassette. They're small by design, and the best part about them is how the designers managed to stuff cartoon-accurate figures into microcassettes.

Of course that doesn't justify their price to a lot of people, which is probably why we haven't gotten any individual MP cassette releases since those two sets.

Masterpiece figures are aimed at collectors that want a G1 authentic style. Where it looks like the old cartoon models but still transformers and what not. They are over priced because the major market is those that want G1 exclusively thus they don't buy other tfs.
Titans Return versions homages are basically aimed at those interested but don't have the money or interest in just buying G1 accurate. The TR/legends are more aimed to actually play with while Masterpieces are more for display

So I just picked this guy up yesterday at Toys R Us. How is he compared to the other recent G1 Wheelie toys? Is this the most show accurate one yet?

I'm always curious about how Hasbro decides what character model they are going to use in series. In CW Firefly is based off his original toy but Superion is based of the Sunbow model. Dead End and Motomaster are based off the show model while Dragstrip isn't based on either. Even into TR we see this where Hardhead and Highbrow are based off toys, Chromedome is IDW, Cerbros/Fort Max is the Cartoon and the Decpticon Beasts are just doing their own thing. I'm mostly just curious how they decided who gets show/comic accurate, who gets toy accurate and who gets an OC style.

I figure they just do like most toy companies and makes sure all the bots are unique and stand out from each other.
All toy accurate Stunticons would look boring all Cartoon accurate Aerialbots would look boring. They likely split apart and pick what they think will pop out the most with kids and fans.

I have no pretense that the toys of that era stand up today, but it'd be ridicilous to expect that anyway - the only reason I'm into collecting toys is nostalgia, and seeing I mostly grew up in the early 90's and a lot of those -masters and Pretenders showed up at flea markets, there was a want but no have, so I have more affinity for those later year toys than I do for the 84-86 toys which I only saw very rarely.

Actually having a minty toy of something as bad as Landmine gives me a better appreciation of it, while a much nicer toy like Skullgrin is a bit of a letdown since it's damn near impossible to get him without a rash on his rubber parts.

Not that one, the Menasor and Defensor actually looks amazing in person. It's like the regular guys got fed up of getting laughed at and went to the gym for a couple of months to get jacked up.

I am also still getting the PC versions because at this point I collect them as much as I can so even if I stop using some of them, I would never know when I would feel like buying doubles of the combiners so better have them on hand for when that time comes.

Who says I'm using the head? I want it for the stylized hands, feet, and body part upgrade. Those are the ones I've been gunning for, even if I get the Bruticus set, I will be picking out which parts I would want to use to enhance the look without taking too much from the aesthetics of the CW stuff. This is why I didn't buy the PE for Superion because I was fine with everything except for the feet and why I am buying the Bruticus head and guns on the next toyshow. I'm buying it for the guns and not the head so the head will stay in the box for the most part unless I feel like changing that too.
