4 was fine aside from the weird shit towards the end, resident evil wasn't really soley about zombies, but bioweapons that included the zombies. RE4 was a horror game with action sprinkled in, it had some tonal problems though.

I would've much rather have seen RE5's original concept in motion though, that was looking way better in terms of everything. I think they only changed it to make it more like the movies in order to attract a larger audience, which lead to the trainwreck in 6

Wesker's motivations have largely been shrouded from the get go, but his reasonings get more extreme as time went on. I think it was by accident though. I won't really defend thier other choices, although, most of the characters of the series didn't really have a real character. We just had designated good guys and bad guys. They tried to remedy this in re6 but they don't know how to write, like they gave Leon a bit of ptsd...but then also gave tit to Chris. Then they tried to make Leon trusting to a fault...but they stretched it out way too far to bebelievable.
It's not suppposed to be anything though. True I and many others would've liked a more horror oriented game, but capcom doesn't have to justify what they did to anyone really. It still had horror elements, but they played up the action a bit too much. This would fuck them over in re6 though since they managed to hit the jackpot once without really knowing what they were doing.
