Now there is a new thing at my job. Where everybody has to show their hobbies or some extra activity. One turd started this shit and everybody is obligated to participate now.

They already said playing videogames wouldn't be accepted as a hobby.

From anyone experience here, what could possibly go wrong if normies knew I collect toys. Most of my collection consist of waifus (idols and saber) and mahou shoujos (precure, nanoha).
>>
If you collect waifushit, don't bother. Showcase something else, surely you have another hobby?
>>
>>5971331
Just say that you are into scale models, buy a few cheap ones if you need to show stuff and shit.
>>
>>5971331
Don't you have any Marvel Legends or any Marvel poseable figures? Marvel movies are popular to normies so maybe you can buy a few of those and they might be able to relate to it. Get an Ironman or Spiderman since they're the popular ones.

But seriously, just be honest and don't think of what your coworkers will think of you, it's your hobby and you are collecting it because it makes you happy. But if you think it will cost you your job then go with the former.
>>
>>5971360
Forgot to add, my former coworkers and boss knew my hobby but I'm not into waifu figures.
>>
>>5971334
This, right here. Waifushit is a shoe-in to be viewed as a creeper with pedo proclivities. Remember, perception is reality.

Don't listen to this dumbfuck >>5971360
>>
>>5971331
plop down a POP figure and you're done.
Normies won't even bat an eye at POP figures.
>>
>>5971331
Lie and say you like to build model kits in your spare time. Building model kits is way better than showing off your FOTM waifu idol garbage.
>>
>>5971331
How is playing video games not accepted? It's super huge or is it because it's too mainstream? Just say you collect items from various media like movies and TV shows.
>>
>>5971331
Ayy yo give us some pics of your collection and we'll see what were working with
>>
>>5971331
Don't do it, I'm part normie and I think collecting toys is weird.

Gunpla is okayish because you actually build them and shit, better if it's military though because people can associate their grandpappy building them.

Build a spitfire or buy a built on online.
>>
>>5971392
Because it's not a hobby. It's a past time. Collecting isn't really a hobby either unless you use your collectibles for a purpose. Model building is a hobby. Taking toy photography or stop motion animation is a hobby. Putting toy's on a shelf, not a hobby.

As for OP how about you just stop being a bitch. I think being a bitch is much worse than collecting toys.

What kind of bullshit workplace is that? Why should you be forced to say whatever the fuck do you do on your free time? Why are videogames not accepted?

If I was in your place, I would just say that I'm a boring person that just watches TV all day. Fuck them.
>>
>>5971331
Just say rock climbing or something.

Also, get a better job.
>>
If you have to bring something in, get a black series star wars figure, a gunpla or a figuarts DBZ, or something else normalfag friendly.

Don't bring in an anime waifu or something. You'll just become that guy that likes cartoon girls.
>>
>>5971473
This.
You could also go pickup a random movie character from NECA for just $20, normies would accept that
>>

You're a retard.

This. The only way to win is not to play.
>>
>>5971612
Yep your right. I guess productivity doesn't determine a hobby so collecting is in, but it doesn't change my opinion on video games though. That's a debate for a different board.

I had a similar thing at work and no one batted an eye, but then again, I wouldn't have given a fuck if they said anything about my Jumbo Miku Nendoroid.

no one gives a fuck, it's your money, time, and tastes, it's not their place to say anything anyway. My office is decorated with Nendoroids and Pokemon and none of my employees say a word.

just don't take any Marvel Legends unless you want to be associated with loser neckbeards.

I list 'reading' as a hobby of mine, and it's far less involved than video games and basically amounts to the consumption of media. Also e-sports exist. There's really no debate, your opinion regarding video games is flat out wrong based on the correct definition of 'hobby'. But you're entitled to it I suppose.

>>5971379
this is genius.

Another suggestion: go to >>>/po/ and pick something. For the grand cost of zero you can tell them that papercraft/origami is a hobby you sometimes dabble in.
>>
Just say your hobby is watching movies, and if they say that doesn't count then just explain that's all you do.

I assume your workplace is retarded for doing this, but no workplace is retarded enough to punish you for not having what they consider a hobby.
>>
video games are your hobby

if they don't count, then you have no hobby..it's that easy

On a somewhat related note, my landlord came to my apartment and saw my collection of horror movie/game figures. (Nothing gory on display and the "lewdest" thing is a Figma Silent Hill nurse) Does she now think I'm a serial killer?

Pretty much this.

OP needs to out himself and show his waifus so all the girls in his class can see how much a creeper he is. They will stay away from him even more.

Don't be a faggot, OP. Show your pride in what you collect. It's not like you ever had a chance of having friends and girlfriends anyway.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHOW AND TELL. FFFFFFFUUUUUCKING NORMIES HAVE TO RUIN EVERYTHING AND BRAG ABOUT THEMSELVES!

So if i finally get a job I will have to play and participate in traumatizing icebreakers and show off my autistic hobbies so stacy, chad, donna, and fucking brad can make fun of me and embarass me?
How does this have any bearing on my job performance!?!??
>>
>>5972413
>How does this have any bearing on my job performance!?!??
Team building since part of your job is actually working with people.

It's still a utterly shit way to do it though.
>>
>>5971612
Collecting isnt a hobby. Its just straight consumerism bordering on autistic levels. I dont do anything with my toys and even i recognize its not a real hobby.

So spending the time on a semi-regular basis (or regular basis if you have no life) to hunt down toys you're into and want to add into your own personal collection is not a hobby? then I guess collecting stamps is not a hobby either.
>>
>>5971975
No, but your landlord might want to keep his/her interactions with you to a very bare minimum.
>>
>>5972419

>>
>>5972429

>>
>>5972434
But it doesnt fit. Just stop it. Its consumerism. What you di with the collection. Curating it. Having authoritative knowledge of certain minutia. Taking photos. Doing creative pursuits with it is what makes it the hobby. Spending 10$ every payday at walmart for your transformers isnt a hobby. Its CONSUMERISM

You won't be impressing anybody with a Pop, though, at least not people with decent taste in collectibles.
>>
This is suppose to build better cooperation with your co-workers but it normally have a higher chance of generating negative effect than positive. Things all ways get mess up when you bring too much of your personal life to your work. ALWAYS. That's why you should always draw a line. Many companies don't promote doing these kind of things, you can even ask your HR.

But then you don't have to be stupid either. just play along. you don't have to tell the whole truth. Just tell them your hobby is collecting and buying stuff.
you can even tell them you have no hobby because playing videogame is not accepted as a hobby, but that you do enjoy exercising, you know stuff like practicing hands and eye coordination with electronic devices like controllers, mice, keyboards.
>>
>>5972457
Are you autistic? It isnt about impressing anyone. Its about exposing your "personality" to normies. Normies arent impressed with collections anyways ever. At least POPs are mainstream and are identifiable to the le so nerdy normies.

All I'm saying is that Funko Pops are overrated and shouldn't be a part of a serious collector's additions. Plus this is what normies are actually into:
<------
>>
>>5972493
it's not really about showing your collection anon. It's just a way to sidestep the whole "hobby" question with the least amount of irksome awkwardness. Hell get a POP of a popular TV show/movie (breaking bad, BTTF, etc.) and just talk about the movie/show rather than the toy if you want.
>>
>>5972493

>>
>>5972451
nah man. I know what you mean but 'collecting' is still considered one of the five major categories of hobbies. And just by browsing the transformers general thread I can tell that they have deep and intimate knowledge in the mundane history of the genre and know way more than any average person cares to know about the fantastic spread of happymeal-tier plastic shit they amass. They know about what's coming in which wave, and fight incessantly about the minute differences of toys produced under two different company names from the same chinese factory. If that's not a hobbyist's autistic obsession, I don't know what is.
>>
>>5972510

I think we agree on that much. Thats what I meant by
>authoritative knowledge of minutiae
Its what you do around the collection I guess is what I mean that really makes it the hobby. Thats what seperates it from buying any other goods which is consumerism. I think we are just sort of arguing semantics really. Like for the stamp collection analogy the hobby is in the knowledge and curation. Rare from chaff. Certain years or artworks etc.

Or for photography which is a hobby. The hobby is in the creative pursuit, mechanical skill, technical knowledge. If i just bought equipment for collecting i wouldnt really calll it much of a hobby i guess unless I had intimate knowledge of like rare old lenses years manufacturers and had a reason to own it etc.
>>
>>5972542
Again nice hot take. Love the chan speak. Do you have a Twitter or IG or snapchat? I need to stay on the cutting edge on the latest.
>>
>>5972559
Dude, just chill... me saying that Pops are overrated shouldn't get your panties up in a bunch if you don't like them either, I know there are lots of people in here that like them and they don't come rallying to me because I don't like what they do. So what if I'm stating what other people have said before already? I am not everyone else and I can say whatever I please, so if we disagree on certain things that's perfectly normal.

TL;DR: Take a chill pill.
>>
>>5972568

Because you are an idiot who missed the point.

What we're trying to do here is get OP out of a potentially awkward situation wherein he'd have to explain himself to people who likely won't understand. Buying a shitty POP figure or two just for show and tell is actually a great idea to get his coworkers off his back. No one, and I mean NO ONE, gives a fuck here about whether they're good or shit, because that's irrelevant to his problem.

It's like OP asking for advice on the best kind of insect repellent and you complaining about the colors on a can of Raid. That's how stupid you sound right now.

This reminds me of when I used to work in a normie call centre fucking years ago. I had a couple of Evangelion Microman figures, Asuka and Rei in their plugsuits, that I kept on top of my monitor. Before that I had a Classics Bumblebee, but I brought him home because I got tired of finding him mistransformed whenever I came back to my desk.

Eventually it dawns on me that if I have these two little action figures of waifus in skintight outfits on my monitor, then maybe people will think I'm some sort of fucking weirdo or something. And rather than just take them home, my total-fuckhead logic brings me to the conclusion that what I need to do is offset the weirdness and balance them out by having some of my other Microman figures at work. So I bring in my Kinnikuman Microman figures, Terryman, Robin Mask and Brocken Jr. Because OBVIOUSLY the best way to stop people thinking I'm a weirdo is by having figures of muscle dudes in their speedos and a fucking NAZI in to work. OBVIOUSLY.

>>
Sounds like a trap so they have a reason to lay people off. Keep your eyes open for dysfunction in the workplace.

A few years back, I had a really bad job. Very early on, I brought in a Star Wars figure for the Toys For Tots drive. Day 89 they sign me up for insurance, day 90 they walk me out after lunch. Wouldn't you know, they told unemployment that I played with toys at work. Fortunately, they have a reputation with DOL but I was lucky there...
>>
>>5972961

>>

OP it all depends on how you carry yourself about it. If you act embarrassed and like a fool, well of course people will react negatively. However, if you act like it's no big deal and maybe even explain one or two things you think are cool then people won't be weirded out about it. It's all how you choose to carry yourself. Act with confidence.

>Because the OP is a lying faggot and his workplace is probably his school
So much this. Why does this thread have so many people giving advice to someone who's obviously lying?

I've had several jobs, from bullshit summer jobs, to high paying "real" jobs. None of them have mandatory "you must share your hobbies" days or anything like that.

The closest I've come to this was attending a professional development class where we had to talk about our interests as an ice breaker. I said my name, my job title, and that my hobbies were video games and writing. I've NEVER revealed my power level at work, even when I got really cool with my coworkers and we'd shoot the shit about hobbies. The closest I came to this was when I bought a Greg Capullo Thrasher suit Batman on my lunch break, got too excited and opened the figure in the car, put it back in the bag and left it in my hot ass car. I then got paranoid about the plastic getting too hot and warping and eventually brought it to my desk in my office. Had a coworker walk past, ask what it was, and I casually said "I'm a bit of a Batman fan", then we started bullshitting about comics.

That's the closest I've ever come to being outed as a toy collector.

>From anyone experience here, what could possibly go wrong if normies knew I collect toys

Nothing, I work in a supermarket for nearly 10 years, my co-workers and regular customers both know I'm a collector of transformers and hotwheels, infact some have seen me foraging around for them (even diving into the walls of pegs when a massive hotwheels sale is on).

Its so accepted I'm asked for customer assistance with them specifically because of my product knowledge.

I'm still a freakshow compared to my normie co-workers who just club drink and fuck but I receive no hate, and they don't dare backstab me either...if only because they're so busy yapping they give me the chance to eaves drop and then join in as if I was apart of the backstabbing to begin with, watching them jump is just as fun as finding super treasure hunts now.

As for your waifu statue collection its up to you, you can lie and just say statues, you're a collector of fine arts, and describe the sculpt, texture but not actually say WHAT statues they are (and even if they're action figures like figma and shit they might as well be statues).

Just be as autistic and overly articulate as possible without being direct, it'll confuse, maybe bore them, and they'll leave you alone, or you could be honest about it, just make sure you add some logic, it won't help if you say you just like cute things or you like little girls.

Either get creative with your autism or add some logic to it
>>
OP here.

I just told them I had no hobby, now everybody who didn't have any hobby will be summoned to do some group activities on sundays like trail running or helping the elderly in asylums, they are still deciding what is going to happen. All whithin the excuse to make workers more happy and sociable. From what I'm being told, it is either do it or else... or give a really good excuse.

I should have bought a fishing pole and told them I'm a pro fisher on the weekends since the beginning.

Ok you have to be trolling but lets say I beleive you. Are you getting paid for it? You should as you are being summoned to job related activities outside of work. In fact they should pay you overtime. If not tell them to fuck off and claim Harrassment or discrimination buzzwords that employers hate. How much do you like your job? How big is the company. Im assuming small as small companies get away with this shit and dont have proper HR regulations.
Contact your states dept of labor and at least get a record of this. If they pull shit like fire you if you refuse you have documentation and can sue them later. Because that is definitely illegal.

Why didnt you just lie or choose any of the ideas here? Unfortunately not playing their game made you still lose.

Argue that video games should count as a hobby. They're bigger than Hollywood now, apparently, and have just as big budgets as the biggest movies, if not bigger. They also are probably just as hard, if not harder to make than any CG movie. Not to mention that playing video games as a hobby is a pretty "normal" thing to do, now. Shit, they even aired Street Fighter V on ESPN. Video games fucking count. Do some research/thinking and argue for it like it really is your hobby, but don't tell them you collect waifus. You will be beyond ridiculed. Why do you associate with your coworkers beyond acquaintance, anyway?

Black series would seem like legit kiddie shit. Get one of the artsy figma or some shit. Just something that won't make you seem creepy.

Shit, you really trust other people not to steal your shit?

You would be surprised how often I hear of stuff like this happening. Companies are always doing things that are technically illegal in some way, most common example would be internships. So many internships actually end up being technically illegal to some degree, but the people doing the internship either will never know any better or they are too afraid to do anything about it cause they need that experience on a resume. We all know about Hillary and her email scandal, let me tell you that most of the guys in IT I knew really wanted her to get punished for that. What she did, happens way too much in businesses, and if someone takes the fall for it at all, it's the IT who were coerced into it by their boss.

Just because it is 'technically' illegal don't mean it doesn't happen, especially when it comes to big businesses.

Theft is a serious crime in the workplace. No one will risk it. Plus, I bet they have no interest in them.

Yeah same thing at my work. Every week I have a team meeting and at the beginning there's always a new ice breaker we do. Most of the time it's easy stuff I can skim by like "What's your favorite alcoholic drink" or "if you had a movie made about your life who would you want to be you" but I would probably never reveal my power level to my coworkers

I have pic related hanging above my living room couch. Everyone tells me it's awesome so I wouldn't worry about a few figures.

Everyone (maybe, this thread is a bit tl;dr) in this thread is going about it the wrong way. He should have admitted to something far worse than collecting figma grills. Like dressing up in diapers or hardcore bondage or something.

That would have made them shut the fuck up real fast.

I have a collection of pops for just this reason, I only collect stuff like Marvel legends or Black series Star Wars figures, with a few anime character like the Vash Revoltech or the Kenshin Revoltech, or a few dragon Ball Z figuarts. And Like one figma of Link.

But I have only a few figures out with the most being Pops on my book shelf. Oh and a few legos, the amount of 20/30 somethings with pops and legos is bizarre.

I have a small collection compared to most normies now days. Christ I'm more normie than most normies currently.

What kind of faggots don't accept vidya as a hobby?

I don't really know enough about your coworkers to give advice. "normies" isn't exactly the most specific description of people.
But if you exclusively collect lewd loli pantsu quest type of stuff i'd hide your powerlevel. Just show them the most articulate and "cool" figure of a monster or robot or more mainstream popular character and say you are into imported japanese collectables or something.
