Beyblade thread.

Does Beyblade fit under /toy/ or /tg/ or the horror of /a/. I am going to go with /toy/

The new BURST line is out! Discuss and hype!
>>
>>5965024
Considering Beyblade almost got completely canned in Japan during the last run of the show due to poor sales, let's hope Burst does a better job

I remember /toy/ did a poll once for Star Wars toys and which was the "best line" and for some crazy reason the terrible 2002-2003 Blue Package "Attack of the Clones" stuff was #1 by a huge margin because "muh nostalgia"

That right there said a lot about the boards.

How different is the quality or budget from the Takara-Tomy releases to the Hasbro stuff for the new BURST releases.

I am tempted to get some from TRU but if Japan is dishing out better stuff of the same item I rather import.

Anyone who is an expert please chime in
>>
>>5968265
Hasbro Parts
>currently Canadian exclusive
>lighter
>burst mechanic uses slopes instead of teeth
>change in burst mechanic makes them wear down less
>bars on the drivers are shorter than the Takara Tomy version
>mold changes to certain drivers(especially Variable)
>drivers are compatible with Takara Tomy layers, but are very loose fitting
>different colors
>launchers are hollow, have no brakes, and can connect to other launchers
>worse stadiums
>no stickers
>no equipment options(but that may change for the international release)

Takara Tomy
>heavier
>burst mechanic uses teeth
>teeth wear varies from bey to bey
>bars on drivers are longer than Hasbro's
>drivers are not compatible with Hasbro layers
>launchers are built better, but do not connect
>best stadium
>stickers
>lots of equipment options

>>
>>5968945
Beyblade is having a big revival now Battle B-Daman died out in 2012 Bakugan stopped in 2014 yet Beyblade kept on rolling
>>
>>5969061
I think it's mostly due to both B-Daman and Bakugan's mangas ending and with no anime support on top of that, both toy lines just took their balls and went home.

Beyblade has had mangas and spin off mangas non-stop since 2001 and it's up to Hasbro to decide what to port over.

It's amazing to see that it survives where others have come and gone.
>>
>>5965297
Metal was the best of the bunch in term of the beys themselves.

The original series Beys were made of plastic and overtime broke easy and the newer Burst stuff is destine to breakdown (Hasbro changed the Japanese releases to not have gear teeth to reduce quick Bey wear)

Armada in America was actually a rushed job show and the reels we got as "Armada" were unfinished beta reels with dubs from the half down scripts. Micron is the true way to watch "Armada"

Like no joke, it was a mess, censored and some characters didn't have their names straight.

This is why I miss Zellers up here in Canada.

We don't have any more stores that if you want to find some old stock you can go out and get it. Same thing with KB Toys being gone.

Now everything is here today and 4 weeks to 3 months later it's gone. A rotating line of product. At least with Zellers and KB Toys you could stroll in and find dead stock of something cheap if needed.
>>
These free wheeling Beyblade launchers that Burst has are the best thing ever. They just keep going!
>>
Anyone else think that Driger is... archaic looking?

I dunno, it just doesn't fit the organic colorful look of Burst. It's like it's from the 70s or something (I know it's early 00s).

I just don't see why they had to remake it. It's NOWHERE near as iconic as anything from Metal Saga and DD2 is basically an updated version anyway. Having a fucking Pokemon-lite monster on the layer is stupid too. Meh.
>>
>>5995442
Well to be fair, Metal Saga was the best saga. People who lean towards the original series enjoy it just because of nostalgia or shit taste.
>>
>>5995442
Driger is as iconic as Dragoon, Draciel, and Dranzer.
>>
>>5995628
I think they are just holding back on the more popular ones, why give it all away from the beginning?
>>
>>5995442
>>5995504
>metal saga babbys

>>5995628
These defined the look of Beyblade and you can see that Burst has gone back to the plastics look (attack ring, weight disc, blade base)

I have nothing against the second gen, but they don't feel like more like the rip offs of the mid-00s, I think HMS suffers from this too
>>
>>5996690
*don't feel like beyblade

>>5996691

>>

At the moment, Driger's the only one out. Leo Burst on the WBO is selling it, but only as apart of the whole set.
>>
>>6005736
>Leo Burst on the WBO

I don't know what that is but google tells me a random user on Beyblade boards, I'm literally just a dude who hasn't followed Beyblade for more than a decade but heard they were making some reissues of the old ones which got me interested again. So he's only selling the Driger once the other ones come out?

Or is each one just part of some set of other things you mean?
>>
>>6006268
In Japan you can get individual beyblades in random booster packs, Driger is part of the newest burst booster series so its random if you get one. Hence the high demand
>>
>>6006323
>>6005736
>>6006268

Give it a month or so and those booster singles will be all over Ebay due to people not caring and left over Booster boxes and cases flooding Japan.

>it's all plasticshit now
I remember my custom with a huge metal center ring, that shit was hardcore.
>>
>>6006412
It went from plastic that was light and kinda fragile

To METAL and awesome, but Takara-Tomy said one of the main reasons they went back to plastic was because not only was bootlegging hurting their sales, but the bootleggers were using cheap metal with lead in them, so the bootlegs were cheaper to make, just as plentiful and easy to find in Asia as the real ones by Takara-Tomy and Sonokong in Korea and DANGEROUS.

At least when they were plastic, the bootlegs were clearly inferior in quality and not a danger to the population and more importantly, their sales.

The thing that irritates me with Burst is that there going back to plastic attack points, but unlike the Plastic series, they are made up of TWO, THICK layers of plastic unlike the thin attack rings, yet THEY STILL SUFFER from breakage problems.

Also, I'd like to point out that Takara has been lying to fans for years about it's metal ball gimmick. I'm talking about Draciel Metal Ball bases, GB145, Jade, and now Zeus.

https://twitter.com/SakuraIbuki/status/778581118937239552
The metal balls never retract, because they are not heavy enough and the ball chutes are not steep enough. So having metal balls that move is basically a pointless gimmick.
>>
>>6007868
Why would they put a stress area right where the screw of the top is, it's like they are asking for trouble.

Did they not stress test these? Maybe it's a American only thing with toy safety and stress tests
>>
>>6007868
>The metal balls never retract, because they are not heavy enough and the ball chutes are not steep enough. So having metal balls that move is basically a pointless gimmick.

They were mostly bought for extra weight, anyway.

I don't know if I should be posting this here or in the BST thread.
The issue is that have a bunch of "OG" beyblades from when I was a kid, and I am looking to get rid of them.

I still collect toys and have a little bit of attachment to them, however They are not even in display at my home they are tucked away in a plastic container.
They are not in perfect condition, as they saw lots of play, but they are not fucked up either.

tl;dr
My Questions here are:

Is there people who actually collect them? (talking about older models)

What is a reasonable price to ask for?
( I am not looking to rip some one off, but I would like to get something in exchange.)

If yes to both, Would people be ok with spanish and/or busted up boxes?
(some of them have boxes in pretty good condition, but others where fucked up by the store going full retard and wrapping them up in masking tape.)
>>
>>6009043
The ones that have value are mostly of the Japanese origin

Like promotional stuff, or some of the Takara-Tomy top tier tournament use Beyblades from the Metal series (Basalt, Libra, Virgo)

OG will have some people interested, but based on nostalgia not on actual demand and value.

Can you take some pictures anon so I can see what you have?

You can earn a pretty penny for old gen stuff, just because of how rare they are and the new people who got into Beyblade. Honestly some of the prices are absurdly high.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, yesterday was a hard day for me, but here they are!(sorry for my phone's camera shit quality)

Please note the ones in this picture come with he extra emblem thingies(bitbeast I believe they were called?) and their launcher and rip cord are inside the box.

If you want close ups let me know.

You can score a lot of dosh if you sell your Wolborg, Dranzers, Braceil, and Galman separately, cuz those are very sought after for their performance/nostalgia factor. You can get good cash for the others too.
It's just up to you if you want to sell it all in a lot or piece by piece.

Yes, but they might release them with gaudy colors and no stickers(or the stickers will already be applied which isn't too bad, but still), or worse; not even release them, at all.

Burst Dranzer S, one that I need desperately, been waiting for it for a long time and it's out now.

Also I was surprised to see this thread, I started doing Beyblade threads a while back and sorta kept them alive but stopped after a while, so it was interesting to see such a big thread still going.
>>
>>6045276
Mostly because the past 4 years (the tail end Hasbro only product side of Metal Saga) was terrible and no one wanted to talk about it

Metal Saga was awesome, but the Beywheelz, Beywarriors and last run of Shogun Steel stuff was TERRIBLE. So no new product worth takling about, let alone a thread that had legs.

Now we got Burst, we get G1 throwback stuff, new good product, these threads will rock for awhile

The WBO is a pretty well established community, and they have a wiki that is pretty fleshed out. News mostly comes from the news section of the WBO and if you're talking about reference guides on parts and how to play, the Beychannel has videos on launch techniques and the wiki has a huge reference of parts and their functions, not to mention the WBO threads that cover part selection for top tier combos.

>>6046984
There are finely machined blades out there, Beylon in particular is a user who is currently trying to get his own high-end fighting tops on the market, and Lowen93 was making laser-cut full metal attack rings and sub parts, as well as another user who was making 3D printed custom designs and revisions of old attack rings to fit MFB setups. I don't know about ruby bearings ever being used, but plenty of people would tune their bearings, which has since been made illegal for official play.

Plastics: Best looking series, most unique and interesting functions (though gimmicky), but prone to breaking and unfortunate sticker wear.

HMS: Most compact but most finely tuned version of the game in terms of play, highly skill based, IMO the dream incarnation of Beyblade, though being larger would be nice.

MFB: Toughest, heaviest version of the game, aesthetically mixed good and bad, 4D was extremely heavy making for a more serious focus on intentional strikes rather than random KO's.

Burst: Second most beautiful series, burst gimmick is good and bad, takes away high skill involvement in the game but adds a new strategy, still fun but doesn't feel fine tuned and strikes don't feel like they have a lot of intent, some breakage issues.

Honestly getting a standard Takara Burst stadium is the best way to go, the bb-10 is the only other real option but it's probably going to cost a lot more. >>
>>6078520
The quickest Driver you have is Accel, but I say go with Trans, it doesn't stall the ridge as smoothly as Zephyr but in attack mode it's essentially the same tip, it's nearly as aggressive as Accel but the hole in the center provides extra stamina, and if you need to go full out stamina you can just change modes.

>>6078827
Metal Change performs a lot better than Fusion, mainly because metal is better for stamina and the original Driger had better balance, so the same principles don't really apply, Fusion is a pretty mediocre Driver.

Question.

I'm looking down this thread at all the new burst stuff and it looks like bayblades have reverted to hitting with plastic edges like the old days instead of the metal on metal clashing.

Can these things hold up to the metal edged bays of last gen?

I've seen video of old school tops getting destroyed by metal ones and am curious about how these will hold up.
Also. From some context. Bursting is a good thing to happen to your top? How does that work?
>>
>>6096575
They're not meant to battle with each other, but Metal Fight's weight alone is too much of an advantage. Burst layers are more prone to wearing of the teeth and breakage (Victory Valkyrie does a lot).

If you Burst your opponent's Beyblade you get 2 points for the battle.
>>
>>6096888
So what you're saying is that the new line is actually garbage and not to waste money?

Are any of the parts compatable with the metal stuff?
>>
>>6096985
He's saying it's a stand-alone series, not that it's garbage.
>>
>>6096985
They're not compatible, just as Spin Gear, HMS, and Metal Fight are not compatible with one another. Different systems of Beyblades are not meant to battle each other. Even having HMS and Spin Gear battling each other is iffy since HMS can destroy Spin Gear Beyblades.

I found it pretty laughable in the metal age threads when people came In and claimed that the old school ones were suoerior.

But now. Even as a standalone, I can't see how it's good to put out something g that is actually, mathematically, objectively inferior to the previous product.

Because plastic is cheaper and the metal saga did not sell as well as they hoped.
There were also health and safety concerns as the many Beyblade knockoffs were using cheaper metals, some mixed with lead, which raised all kinds of issues.

So I've been watching a ton of BeyBladeGeeks on youtube with my little cousin

and I wanna get into the new beyblade burst

the only problem is stadiums starter packs are fucking expensive.

I live in the southern US and we don't have any beyblade bursts in stores yet.

Should I just bite the bullet and buy the Takara Tomy stuff or wait for the US hasbro versions?

Has the hasbro shit shown any significant quality drops?

I still got my small blue stadium with a bunch of gen one parts and some compatible third party pieces, including overweight rings in the attic.

My first top was a Gekiryu-Oh - the transparent plastic eventually exploded, as transparent plastic is want to do, in a climactic beyblade battle in my porch against my brother's Draciel, wherein the attack ring disintegrated and the bottom nub snapped off at the same time.

The base was still usable after I filed it down and it spun in pretty crazy tight spirals, like a hyper-aggressive attack base.
>>

Are you wanting to play competitively, or just casually?
>>
>>6108483
There are some differences in weight and in the Drivers, Hasbro is okay just for fun. Stadiums aren't good, and the launchers are cheap shit. I'd recommend Beylaunchers or Sword Launchers.
>>
>>6108483
Here's the gist of it

Takara:
-highest quality aesthetically
-decals
-crystal clear Overlayers
-teeth for locking mechanism
-somewhat more fragile than Hasbro
-higher precision construction

Hasbro:
-highest durability
-slopes instead of teeth for locking (which is more durable)
-foggy Overlayers
-no decals just pre-applied details
-odd color choices on most blades
-shitty launchers
-some missing Drivers (Orbit, Gyro) replaced by repeat Drivers

I'm sure Hasbro is fun, but TT is more competitive and they look better and feel well made, Hasbro's won't break on you but they still seem cheap in construction. It really matters if you're gonna play competitive or not.
>>
>>6109258
Not to mention that you can't use Hasbro layers on Takara drivers.

>I'm sure Hasbro is fun, but TT is more competitive

For the most part, but there are some Hasbro parts that are technically better than the Takara ones(Valkyrie and Spriggan, for example).

I wanna play casually, but I heard something about the hasbro beyblades being more durable and not bursting as easy as the takara tomy ones.

So I was wondering if it was unfair to match a hasbro vs. Takara Tomy beyblade because they are made differently.

Thanks for the info.

I ordered a Xeno Excalibur on a whim recently because it was the last one in stock on amazon lol.

I guess I'm in it now I don't even have a stadium or anothey bey to play with

Hasbro beys are supposed to be more durable, but I've heard stories of Hasbro parts getting dented(then again, I've seen pictures of TakaraTomy parts breaking).

Strangely enough, the burst mechanism on the Hasbro layers seem to be a wild card. Some Hasbro layers fit tighter than others of the same type.

If you're going to play casually, I guess it doesn't really matter what kind of stadium you use. If you're not willing to shell out $50+, I'd suggest looking into pic related. It won't be as good as a Takara Tomy standard beystadium, but it should be enough for some fun battles.

Too bad it doesn't look as pretty underneath.

My guess is that Hasbro has slightly softer layers and less powerful battles which result in less damage. I know that Hasbro's Accel Driver is less flat than Takara's resulting in less aggressive movement.

Victory Valkyrie is known to break with these giant wings. Especially with the Variable Driver. Zillion Zeus can break since it has parts that stick out too.
>>
>>6111548
>>6111746

Actually, someone on the WBO ran some tests against a Takara Tomy string launcher, and apparently, it's more powerful than it.

Not really but there doesn't seem to be much room for error. And with a bit of testing I figured out that no matter which beyblade was on the Supergrip it wouldn't work properly around 60% of the time. It would fall off one of the little teeth but get stuck on the other.

They're pretty nice although Dranzer's lock sucks. I would have had Lost Longinus by now too if HLJ actually honored all their pre-orders. I'll probably get some more Dual Layer ones and Random Booster 5 for some more Xeno Xcaliburs.

Looks like I got the retooled Xeno Xcalibur. Does anyone know if they made changes to the Sword Launcher? I've heard of the gears warping or jamming with some.

WTF? Metal Fusion starters were $8 and the very few boosters Hasbro released were $5. Why are the starters and boosters the same price and why is there such a price hike compared to the Metal generation (people will say inflation, but I doubt it)? I still want to get some, but at these prices I'll wait for some store sales
