>>

Honestly it's my first Iron Factory figure purchase, and the only reason I'm getting him is because I've wanted a Voyager-sized Scorponok for a while now since the Energon figure doesn't really fit the bill anymore, and fuck paying $150+ for the Botcon version. I'm not that big of a fan of Leader-sized figures, so I try to keep my bots around voyager/ultra height, barring combiners as an exception)

Maybe if I like this guy enough I'll look into other Iron Factory/War in Pocket stuff. Hulkie looks kinda neat as a desk toy, although I don't really like his pin head
>>

>>
>>5955419
I'm waiting for Master Made plus bust
It'll be a bit smaller than voyager maybe, but their quality is top notch gokin feel.
>>
>>5955400
>implying there's anything wrong with smaller more accurate versions of characters with great articulation

Nah dude, Iron Factory can keep doing what they're doing. They are 100% not influencing what other companies are producing and work great for people like me who only have a few Masterpiece/Voyager class figures due to lack of desk/shelf space. Take a look at all the the voyager class Dinobots that are around and Carnifex, they are still being made despite great Legends class figures.

Your toys will be fine, don't worry.
>>
>>5955431
>we live a post-scarcity economy
CAN YOU GET ME CAPTAIN PICARD'S AUTGRAPH
>>
>>5955456

There's quite a bit of novelty for small versions and too big transformers often run into mechanical issues unless they go full Hasbro and make them hollow as fuck to counterbalance the weight.

I love big tranformers. 9-12 inches is where I like them to be but those do take up space and are costly. There's room in the market place for both niches.

If master made can carve a niche with chibi citybots then iron factory can do just fine with tiny figures.
>>
>>5955428
wow! they both look great. Is that prime 3rd party too? Who makes it? What is it called?
>>
>>5955470
Master Made uses highend gokin tier materials and qc.
What does Iron Factory bring that I can't get from hastak in terms of engineering and production quality.
>>
>>5955513
Prime is the Dual Model Kit.
>>
>>5955520
Well, IF brings characters at legends scale with engineering and production quality you'll never get from HasTak at that scale. It's kind of self-answering. We'll never get tiny Overlord or Dynobots from them, but we will from IF.

Duh?
>>
>>5955542
I don't care about the characters in legends scale
I specifically asked about engineering and production quality

Have you actually seen the IF transformation engineering. It's abysmal.
I don't own one, so I can't speak for the production quality, but I don't really see people singing it praises like anyone who touches the Master Made figures do.
>>
>>5955547
>I don't care about the characters in legends scale
Then they don't really have anything to offer you.

Arcee is really the only one who's engineering is genuinely lacking. And that was at the cost of a really great bot mode (opinion). You could argue for Soundwave and Perceptor, but I don't mind them especially since they were early pieces trying to make a profit from the Blaster mold (which was actually pretty accurate to the alt mode it was going for). Plus Soundwave came with new, well-engineered minions.

Everything else I have 0 problem with. I even like the new Drift alt mode; it looks like a Cybertronian speedster and I love Cybertronian vehicles. Lord Scorpion looks beyond amazing.

But if you don't care about legends scale then it doesn't matter.
>>
>>5955431
>Take a look at all the the voyager class Dinobots that are around and Carnifex, they are still being made despite great Legends class figures.
Speaking of Dinobots, I got my Iron Factory Ashura Knights in the mail the other day and they're fucking fantastic. But they made me realize that, despite being a big Dinobot fan, I have very few Dinobots (only the G1 Dinobots and MP Grimlock). I guess I've been holding out on Hasbro getting around to it...but judging by their quality of work as of late, they'd probably fuck them up.

Anyone have any suggestions for Deluxe/Voyager scale Dinobots that would look good alongside the Iron Factory Dynobots?
>>

>Have you actually seen the IF transformation engineering. It's abysmal.
So you were expecting Alternator/Binaltech levels on complexity in the transformation...from LEGENDS scale figures...
>>
>>5955577
I understand that this is difficult for autists to understand, but there are things between two extremes.
>>
>>5955581
Then give me an example of how the transformations should be done.

I have a few of the Iron Factory figures, and the transformations all accomplish what needs to be done to make an accurate looking vehicle and bot mode.

You don't seem to understand how engineering works though, friend. You've probably never even handled an Iron Factory figure either. You see, if you have a figure that's about Legends scale, then the more panels and hinges you add, the smaller they'll have to be to fit in with a Legends sized figure. The thing about tiny little panels and hinges is that they'd be extremely fragile and break really easily. They'd also be hard to maneuver around; what with the figure being LEGENDS sized and all.
>>
I was a madman and bought a Feral Rex the other day. Should be coming in the mail tomorrow. Got Felisaber coming soon as well and Dr.Killinger's sharp claws on order. Pretty hype for this guy.
>>
>>5955586
Maketoy's Manga Mech and HasTak's current legends scale lines both manage to look like what they're setting out to in both modes while remaining fairly simple to transform.
>>
>>5955592
First. Manga Mech series is legends /class/ not legends scale. Their swerve is bigger than most IF releases. And more expensive. At a bigger size and cost you have more room to work with.

HasTak is cheaper and (mostly) in scale, but at the cost of articulation and quality. No balljointed ankles or wrist swivels to be seen in the current legends. And it's not uncommon to run into shitty/weird plastic or loose joints or other errors.

>>
>>5955628

I don't care if this is bait as enough retards get this wrong that it warrants an explanation. Size class is not the same thing as scale.

Maketoys Tailgate is the same size class as Iron Factory Drift, but they do not scale together. Tailgate scales with Deluxe class and Voyager bots like MMC's DJD since he is that size relative to other bots in canon. IF Drift does not scale with the MMC DJD because Drift in the comic is of similar height to the DJD, and the IF figure is way too small.

Now if Iron Factory go and make a DJD at the Legends size class, they would most likely scale with their own Drift. Maketoy's Tailgate, while being the same size class as the new DJD set, would be entirely too big and not scale at all with them.
>>
>>5955688
Although having giant Tailgate fight the DJD would be hilarious.
>>
>>5955588
Awesome man! Madman purchases aren't always great for the bank account, but they usually pretty great.
>>
>>
>>5955742
That's disappointing. He's not much larger than Omega at that size
>>
>>5955749

Any bigger and he'd be a pain in the ass to manipulate. MT Pandius has ratchets so strong you have to really exert effort to move him around.

Well, he's already probably going to be a pain in the ass to manipulate but if he was bigger than he's be even worse.

Iron Factory has one thats a good likeness, but theres a few flaws to it.

1: It's a remold of their Blaster, who turns into this funky little tank thing from his first IDW appearance. So he doesn't turn into a tiny cassette player.

2: He's part of a $60-70 set that comes with a tiny Buzzsaw, Laserbeak, Ravage, a shitton of weapons, and a Perceptor that also uses the same mold IIRC as Blaster/Soundwave.

>>

I'm sure MMC will get around to it at some point, given they did like 40 versions of IDW's tranny Arcee and stick pretty hard to IDW styled stuff or stuff from IDW, and Windblade is featured pretty heavily in IDW stuff.
>>
>>5956479
>Feminist Agenda

I'm not a feminist and Windblade is actually what I voted for when I filled out the forum my choices were:
1. Female
being Transformers is what 90-95% "Male" Characters I thought picking "Female" would be nice for a change.
2. Autobot
I like Autobots more so I picked that.
3. Red and Black color scheme.
my 2 favorite are red and Black so that is what I chose.
4. A sword as their weapon.
everyone has guns, guns are no real fun you just point and shoot. But a sword you have to be skilled and know what your doing also it is a very brutal up close weapon. whats more cooler just shooting someone or dropping down out of nowhere and stabing someone in the back of the head and the blade goes out the front through the eye.
5. vehicle/alt-mode
here is the one I lost I originally picked Motorcycle. I picked it for 2 reasons
One being I like Motorcycles and 2 I was thinking of the characters personality they would be fast and agile and with a sword as a weapon they would have to be quick. but she ended up being a plane which is fine too I think that is kind of better in the long run

>>
>>5956028
He has an absolute shit altmode and his transformation is bottom-of-the-barrel bad. It's all partsforming and there's a part that's extremely fragile and requires a huge amount of force to move. There was somebody a while back who posted in these threads about how he bought one and it got jammed immediately and moving it would break it.

It's a pretty decent action figure but a "Transformer" it ain't. Most of the IF figures are bad about that. Their Arcee is one of the worst- it can barely even transform, and IF still hasn't mastered the black art of "movable wheels."
>>
>>5956536
I just thought it was funny picture, you dont have to defend your choices to me lol
>>
>>5956650
What part is fragile? And yeah it parts forms but so does the g1. Boo hoo. The alt modes look great and the little base mode is fun.

The only IF figure without movable wheels is Ultra Magnus and even then /some/ of his wheels move.
>>
>>5956815

I'm going to dip my feet in 3P soon(I'm mostly a TF collector, but in the last few years I've focussed more on bandai stuff like SHF/SoC and Macross)and I ant some opinions on what are some good first pieces to own are. For the record, I'm not really focussing on any particular collection(classics style, MP, etc.), but am not really a fan of legends. As far as MP/MP substitutes go, I generally prefer some stylization to pure animation accuracy(i.e., I prefer Gigatoys Dinobots and Quakeblasts's whole look)

Quakeblast(probably the most etmpting one to me at the moment, because the price is great)
GigaPower Guttur(I prefer these to the FT look, but how have they held up a few years later?)
Netclow loose Feral Rex components(how are the QC on these?)
Striker Manus
Hexatron

Suggestions are also appreciated. as a n aside, anyone familiar with both 3P and Soul of Chogokin who can tell me how they compare? Or any 3P figures that feel very similar to SoC? In the year or so I've gotten a massive itch for SoC but they do very fw mecha I actually care about.

I may not be the best opinion, I do own Quakeblast. However, it's the only 3rd party toy I own, so I don't have a lot of comparision.
I will say this though. It's beautifully designed, I like it's more dynamic look compared to to Quakewave and MP Shockwave (of course that's up to taste). The plastic feels a tad softer than MP toys (again, not sure how that stacks up to other 3rd party toys), but nothing in the realm of feeling like anything is going to snap or bend. Paint is spectacular and a slighty metallic sheen in the purple paint. There are optional translucent or solid purple hands (as well as spare gunbarrel and hand). Be wary of attaching the alt mode gunbarrel to the hand, as some people have snapped off the gun hand due to a tight fit.
Other than that, worth the price it's going for, I highly recommend him.
>>
>>5957284

Only bad thing I can say about Quakeblast is DO NOT USE THE SOLID BARREL PIECE. It will snap his arm cannon. It's too tight of a fit. Use the transforming barrel piece if you're gonna put him into gun mode.

So these things turned out alright. They sort of exacerbate the problem I have with him where he's 1/3rd thighs and 2/3rds shins, but they also make him look less stumpy so it's an overall improvement. The side to side tilt seems to be what they were going for first and foremost, and it's pretty nuts. The forwards/backwards range is weak, which is disappointing, but you can cheat and use the old toe hinge to do some very far lunges.

The actual balljoints are very tight, and the hinges that replace the ankles lock in very nicely, so no problems there either. Nearly doubling the price of a deluxe just for a pair of feet feels weird, but it's a great set and I'd recommend it if you liked hardhead.
>>
>>5955547
IF's plastic feels kind of brittle compared to other toys, like really brittle. It might be because they paint a lot of their parts, but most of it just ends up chipping off.

Every time I see these things it just makes me go "Why?".

They're certainly not bad figures, but they're such wasted potential. IF could've made awesome CHUG Dinobots, instead we got some "meh they're all tanks from some comic like 9 years ago that no cares about" alt modes.
>>
>>5957702
I assume it's to keep within the IDW theme they have running.
>>
>>5957751

But they're not from IDW designs, they're from Dreamwave.

IDW Dinobots have the dino modes.
>>
>>5957066
No it's not redditfag.
>>
>>5957777

They mostly did not. They had tank modes before they became dragonbeasts (in 'Monstrosity') and after they were restored, until they reformatted into dinosaurs to function on Earth (in 'Spotlight: Shockwave').
>>
>>5957702

> Knocking Figueroa designs.

Oh if you only knew how much WW was ripped off in secret.

>>

>>
>>5957836

While you're correct, they were tanks in IDW before taking on their Dinobot modes, I still think you're mixing up Dreamwave and IDW here. Grimlock was a Trex in IDW as far back as 2008 with Maximum Dinobots. Autocracy and Monstrosity were flashbacks, and can hardly be considered "most" of their appearances as tanks.

>>
>>5957284
Best shockwave yet. You may want to lube up the hinge joint on the sides of his legs though. Mine were pretty tight and scared me.

Also don't force the G1 Barrel on him in gunmode... be very careful when using it. It could snap his cannon hand.

sure I took issue with the "Feminist Agenda" thing because now a days every time a new "Female" character is introduced
into a predominantly "Male" series everyone starts crying about feminism ruining stuff which I don't think was the case with Windblade.

Also I wasn't trying defend my choices, I'm trying to create conversation. I feel that I put alot of thought into the choices I picked being in all the years transformers has been around how often have the fans got to actually
create an official character that will become a part of the series? with my choices I sat down and actually thought about the character's personality, how they would move and
fight and everything like that.
so in my previous post >>5956536 I wasn't defending but more like sharing a bit of the thought process like I picked "Choice A" and here is the reason why.

>>
>>5955323

>>
>>5958191

I must be the worst kind of person because I always buy for the robot mode and its articulation first. The vehicle mode and transformation is, to me, a secondary benefit if it happens to be good looking or particularly fun.

Leonidas comes to mind. Fuck the lion mode, the bot mode is where its at.
>>
>>5958259
No that's fine; you should be focussing on articulation and robot mode; its where you'll get the most use out of it. Personally, I like my transforming designs to be able to transform, even if the alt-modes suffer; because I find it makes the figure feel more like a full fledged representation. For example, I bought the SRC Daizyujin/Power rangers Megazord, and a few GaoGaiGar releases, and as cool as they are, the inability to break intot heir components makes them feel incomplete. I know why they are as they are, but seeing parts that'd be made up of moving bits on an individual release be rendered as solid bits sort of ruins the experience and feeling of depth.
>>
>>5958275

That I can understand, especially the GGG ones. That's like.. having a combiner toy that doesn't do half of what its suppose to do.
>>
>>5955588
Fair warning, while the claws make the hands looks MUCH better they do make it difficult to plug the hands into the feet guns and one of the thumb pieces keeps running into shit on Talon.

Had this for a year, forgot about it until now and just opened it today. It's cool, but it can't do the vehicle mode(s) since it's completely missing that cockpit hinge piece.

Was that common? Google isn't really pulling much up. I also went through three DX9 legends-size Cyclonuses that had fucked up and/or missing shit, too.

I know I fucked up by not opening him sooner, but did this happen to anyone else?
>>
>>5961378
Like the hinge for the plane's nosecone? I've never heard of anyone missing that. You could probably still contact Iron Factory.
>>
>>5961378

You can still do the jet mode even if you're missing the clip for the nosecone. It plugs into him a bit for jet mode, and it'll definitely stay in no problem through handling as long as you don't lift him by the nosecone.
>>
>>5961386
Yeah, it's just not on the nosecone/cockpit. Just a blank space instead. I never heard of anyone else getting several wrong hand/arm assemblies on their DX9 Cyclonus, either, though. So I guess it's just my luck.

It's never gonna look great in altmode, but they're on balljoints so you can at least angle them around to make them less visible. I think I like them even more now that I've gotten a chance to play around with them for a couple days, though. Hardhead is easily my favorite of the 8 deluxes now.
>>
>>5962828
If it were designed with a gap in the back of the heel you could flip the feet around and it would lay flat onto the back of the legs, but you may not like how the feet would look in robot mode then. Could then make part of the heel hinge out to allow the foot to swing around, seems like an easy engineering fix.
>>
>>5962828
I will almost always take a minor hit to alt mode for a better bot mode. And these feet definitely take Hardhead up a notch.

This is the kind of stuff I'd like to see Nonnef tackle.
>>
>>5962870
Yeah, if they could have laid flush with the back it'd have been a lot better, but eh. They don't stick out from the front, and he already looked pretty weak from the back in the first place because of the gaps.

Either way, I really hope nonnef or some someone else starts doing more stuff like this with titans return. Skullcruncher could use some new back legs, scourge and highbrow could use new necks, etc. I'm not sure what you could do to fix mindwipe, but there's nowhere to go but up with him.

If you don't replace the ratchets on the hips (included with crane) the crotch can tug itself apart if you aren't careful due to the ratchets being overly strong.

Nothing else falls apart though. Bobo didn't seem to have thing tabbed together properly in the first place. The only actual thing that doesn't like to stay tabbed in is the crane base on his shoulder.

>>5964065

I've played with CW superion who couldn't hold his gun up. I played with UW Bruticus who teetered back and forth on his tiny gunfeet.

Hades seemed to have some major knee/thigh weakness issues though I can't speak for that myself.

Constructor's knee slider things are apparently overly tight and his wrists can be too loose (though this can be fixed with some floor polish).

I owned Computron briefly but he was too fiddly and small for my tastes. His combined form was super solid though.

I'm not suggesting that he's perfect but he's really fucking good. His elbows are strong enough to hold the gun but he does come with replacements if you prefer a tighter joint there.

The same thing applies here with this Voyager Megatron. While not completely movie accurate with those ridiculous wings/backpack, I remember a lot of people saying it was probably one of the funnest toys for movie Megatron.

Pulled the trigger, incoming Nero Rex. Couldn't help it, I love combiners in concept but most don't appeal to me - usually because if the body part looks just like their non-robot form, it grates on me pretty hard. Even watched an hour-long comparison video between the Jinbao and MCC Rexes, and really glad I did 'cause that price tag was awfully tempting compared to the better model.

I hope I didn't just fall down a slope 'cause I'm already eyeballing Cynicus to go with Rex.
>>
>>5965194

Probably should have waited for black Friday. Nero Rex isn't moving too fast and I can see him going on fire sale.
>>
>>5965194

I would've saved for a Feral Rex personally. Having a Predaking in Predaking colors seems better to me than a Predaking in "literally who" colors.

And yeah, this Anon >>5965249 is right, you should've waited, Nero is already cheaper than the regular FR because people want the actual color scheme and not the redeco, I could totally see him getting slashed in price for sales.
>>
>>5965249
Damn, hadn't even considered that. Oh well, thanks for pointing it out though - I'll just keep an eye on anything else I might want when that time rolls around. To be honest I kind of need a pick-me-up anywho, and this should tide me over for a fair bit.
>>
>>5965263
That was another thing that was bugging me about various combiners, the lack of color consistency. I know, different strokes for different folks, but the Nero was the first one that fit the color-consistency and "They didn't just turn a tank sideways for a leg" issues I have with most of them.

Alternately I'm a massive edgelord and want my big robot in black and purple.

Well, he's a wonderful thing no matter what the deco is, Anon. But honestly Predaking color matches pretty well just on his own. Reds, oranges, blacks, and yellows mix very well together.

I can totally see the desire for a more uniform combiner, but most of them in TF history aren't very uniform in coloration.
>>
>>5965312
I know, he looks great regardless, I'm stoked to get him. The colors are all very earthen and blend nicely. Not certain I want to bother picking up the 6th combiner, from all the descriptions of an "ULTIMATE MODE" I thought it would fit in with the other 5 instead of replacing the gun-arm so it'd mirror the other one. I get the idea behind it, but that's... it's not really ultimate if you're removing one robot for another, right?

I was looking at the constructicons for a while, since the coloration is at least consistent among them, and the latest one seems really well made. Then you nice folks went about showing off your collections and I got to see Nero in >>5962259 so now I'm both poorer and happier for it. I appreciate you folks showing off these things so I can get an idea of how they actually manage.
>>
>>5965332
>it's not really ultimate if you're removing one robot for another, right?

I don't own the 6th one myself, but I've been thinking of picking it up. However, you actually do have all 6 hooked up if you own it. Not-Divebomb can directly plug into the back in combiner mode as he has a knob under his chestplate designed to do so, allowing the 6th member to form the left arm without leaving anyone behind.
>>
>>5965333
Interesting! I'm glad I brought it up. I'm assuming the overall figure is solid enough to keep standing with the extra weight on his back? Also, I'm asking since I'm uncertain, but there is still a spot on the back of the 6th one to still mount the arm-cannon, correct? I know it's a duplicate (functionally) of the other cat, and that you can put the wings on the back of almost any bot, but I have no idea how the arm-cannon mounts or if the peg would work.
>>
>>5965340

I'd assume it's solid enough. He does have pretty good ratchets. However, like anything this big and heavy, I'm not sure how the weight would distribute with a whole 'nother figure hanging off his back. The problem with a lot of bigger 3P figures is literally the weight. Gravity always wins no matter how strong the ratchets as any spills it takes would be due to not distributing the weight properly, and not so much the ratchets.

As for the arm cannon, I'm pretty sure it can hook onto the Rampage arm, as it looks like his feet have the same port that Divebomb's do that it plugs into.

Anybody got DX9's Carry? Is he any good? I know he has a semi-Studio Ox kind of look, but I've learned not to trust photos when deciding how a figure will look in hand.

I really want a decent Rodimus Prime and MP-9 (which I have) is not great. And I really like the idea of an all-in-one transformation scheme that includes the trailer (that hopefuly isn't like the terrible Titanium toy)

Does he fit in OK with official Masterpiece or Masterpiece-alike 3P?
>>

I think that Planet X Vulcan, though stylized, is the best engineered grimlock to date. The MP is quite small and is a bit outdated but you can fix one of those issues with the upscaled KO's.

Grinder, or FT 08, is an unreleased updated version of the MP design from fanstoys that looks so freaking close to the MP it might as well be a KO. I'm assuming he'll have better engineering and be of more reliable quality than a straight up KO though.

I'm honestly surprised.
>>
>>5965497
He doesn't fit at all. It's just one of those wrongly scaled chugs.

>>5965892

I think more people are hopping on the "Chug but MP size" aesthetic.

If I were to hazard a guess I'd say it has more to do with just wanted bigger toys scale be damned rather than people wanting a new scale.

There's sort of a power creep in terms of third party TF's size nowadays. DX9 Blitzwing is nearly ten inches tall and broad AF. Gigapower exists purely to make fuckhuge dinobots. Constructor's only selling point was how enormous he was. FT is putting out a pretty huge Grimlock and a 14+ inch Skyfire.

The split sword is an official mode of them (the instructions were in Felisaber's notes), but I agree with not doing that version. I tried it once and it was hell trying to separate the swords again. Although you can connect the double swords to make a giant Darth Maul weapon.

There isn't an official Nero Felisaber, but there is a KO of that version that's supposed to be pretty good. I don't know if it comes with the same extras that Felisaber did, other than the tiny penguin mascot. However, I do like Ultimate Feral Rex alot.
