Voltron/golion is similarly taking influence on the original toy more than media. Though in all honesty I think a lot of people don't want a 100% tv suit look.

And thank god for that. Sentai is the only genre where trying to be screen accurate about the robots seems ridiculous to me. The show designs are limited as fuck because a guy must be inside the costume, but check any artwork and they will always look closer to the toys proportion-wise. You're supposed to use your imagination and see an actual robot instead of a guy inside some cardboard boxes.

I had the same thought about Voltron. Both will be an easy pass for me. I'm happy with my plastic Masterpiece Voltron, and I'll wait for Bandai America to re-do the original Megazord for half the price. I prefer my shit to look as screen accurate as possible, and Bandai America has done a good job of making their zords look like the suits.

But I guess many people are really glad that the designers decided to give us a badass robot instead of a guy in a cardboard suit, nonetheless.

Hmm. I definitely am a stickler for screen accuracy. I think it's more important than matching concept art. Personally, I prefer that to taking artistic liberties with the sculpt and could understand not wanting to drop $300 on something I'm not totally in love with.

That said, I think this looks incredible and am strongly considering it. But I'm not gonna hate either way.

The SRC was a nice compromise. Also rangerfags are notorious for eating up any shit you give them with a smile on their face, so of course they like this. Doesn't mean they wouldn't like a more show faithful version just as much, or even more so.

This makes for a nice comparison. The vinil is faithful to the suit, blocky feel and all. The SOC looks good, an improvement from the old DX toys but the design is still affected by the transformation. The head is too tiny and the chest too wide even when compared to the concept art.
SRC wins as far as proportions are concerned. Too bad it can't form DinoTanker, that shit's rad

Only thing I'm worried about is the articulation. So far the Megazord hasn't been put in any actual poses, and the rest of the zords just look like they have the same old shit. For 300, I don't want just a shit ton of diecast and cool looks.

You begin to notice how much they fuck up the Beasts in order for them to look like the show's suit. Like Tyranno would need to have ridiculous long thighs and a balloon head. Mammoth's head would be massive compared to its body. Sabertooth and Tricera's bodies would have to be squashed lengthwise.

The Soc is definitely for fans of the DX toy and fans of the individual Guardian Beasts who don't mind sacrificing a little screen accuracy if it delivers a great toy.

Really this is just the result of Toei's production value. Many time's Sentai's individual mech props and animatronics wouldn't be able to look like the suit 1 for 1 if those props did actually transform. It's like how Iron movies armor have to cheat with CGI. Sure they could design mechs that would be able to fit human proportions, but I imagine that would severely restrict creative ideas. Plus it would probably be looked at as a ludicrous, nitpicky policy to Toei and Bandai in making toys and shows for kids.

So I imagine that is shoulder/hip, elbow/knee, and paws. So that is more than the DX. Plus it's mouth can move whereas the DX's mouth was sealed with a black void.

Goldymarg isn't really comparable. The hammer is easily the most iconic weapon in all of GaoGaiGar, and Goldy doesn't combine with GaoGaiGar as he replaces the entire arm.

That being said: I will be genuinely surprised if they don't do a Dragonzord after going to this much effort. If fans will buy a $300 Megazord, they'll be willing to drop more because MAH TOMMY.

I'm just saying Goldy was essentially just an accessory for the main figure (some would even argue GGG isn't worth owning without a hammer...it's like Link without the Master Sword or Vader without a lightsaber). And the level of planning is a lot lower since the level of combining is "replace an arm".

Dragonzord is going to happen because that shit is popular, not because of any precedent set by GGG.

Gonna hope for Thunder Megazord/Dairenoh.
