News:
>Frame Arms Girl HRESVELGR is up for Preorder. Baselard and Gigantic Arms are up. The decals you get in the full set are pretty nice.
>Second wave of Desktop Army, Chrom, up for preorder
>Second wave of Megami Device up for preorder but usual suspects are all out for now.
>the Shinki kits are kind of in limbo with no official release dates, but they're still showing off the prototypes

Where to buy second hand Shinkis:
>eBay, Amazon - generally overpriced, but you might get lucky.
>Mandarake, Rakuten - search 武装神姫 and don't trust listing images.
>Yahoo Japan Auctions, Suruga-ya - you'll need a proxy if you’re not in Japan.
>Taobao - some shops ship international now, so you might not need a proxy.
>Amiami, Jungle-scs - occasionally get some preowned.
>Check the BST threads, My Figure Collection, and Busou Shinki World too.

1/12 clothes like Picco Neemo fit these, but they tend to be loose or baggy.
We need to collect some resources like tiny tailoring tutorials and patterns.

Any other Shinkifags into the Candy Meteor kits? I managed to find this after scouring 2 mandarake stores while I was in Japan a few years back. Easily my favorite.
>>
Asking in this thread just to be safe. Anyone have that pictures of the three Materias on that Tamashii trident stage?

if that bulk fag runner thing is happening, I'd definitely want some innocentia chest pieces

Varying degrees of 'done with this' from Fuchsia.
>>
>>5949905
Yeah, I can definitely see people wanting multiples of her chest plate. And ears. And smugface. Probably her shoulders too.

Innocentia does seem the one to wait for, but that means holding off for another several months. I suppose people have already waited years though; I'll call it time to get my shit together and form a plan.

Gentlemen, this man is ACTUALLY going to build a catgirl army. How many are you shooting for? I stopped at two; one to fuck up and one to assemble properly after learning from the first.

I don't think I'll have a limit to how many I can get. Ordering 3, plus whatever I can manage to afford.

Gonna basically take up the rest of my /toy/ budget not devoted to other things.
>>
>>5950265
As of yet nothing; I'm basically still in the brainstorming stage as to how things might work. I don't really want to make a ton of different orders either so at this point it looks like I'm waiting for Innocentia to come out so I can get regular and smug faces along with a few runners containing the new shoulder design, chest plate and whatnot too.
>>
Does anyone here spray clearcoat onto their shinki parts with (non-face, non PVCish ones) to protect the tampo prints/decals/details that might chip easily? Some of the details on shinki bodies are obviously sprayed on via stencils/templates.

I lacquered my original Lirbiete's chestplate because the local climate was bad for her paint coat.

Clear nail polish seems to work well for my purposes, the paint they used for MMS3 chestplates tends to get sticky when it mixes with Mr Ultra Clear.

Muscuto's put up a new sale.

I'll get around to posting it once I've got everything organized since it's quite a doozy this time. As usual, read the guide before asking questions.
>>
Tell me about Muscuto kits, I understand they're unique garage kits, but how interchangeable are they with shinkis/FAGs and does he only ever do lewd stuff?
>>
>>5955883
Not very interchangeable at all other than being in similar size/scale.

They do have a single 3mm port in the back for the stand though that could be used for other things.
>>
>>5955879
And I just got paid. Awesome.
>>
Another ask about [resin kits in general]

I've often heard that resin kits need sanding and resin sanding makes DEATH DUST for breathing.

But muscatos stuff generally looks real damn smooth already and the guide doesn't mention sanding/anything more than some careful nipping and shaving.. at least not in the first half.

And I don't have the setup to fend off toxic materials in my hobby space

So complicated models don't really scare me. Sanding and breathing DEATH DUST does scare me.

Are Muscatos kits appropriate for me?
>>
>>5955951
Buy a respirator, wetsand, and clean up your work area with a damp cloth afterwards.

If you can do those, you can work with resin.

>>
Guide is updated with new stuff to buy. Go check it out!

To summarize:
New ICE Breaker colorway - Fang Banshee
Finished (!) face parts on sale now for all colorways
Finished (!) mystery parts now for sale. Presumably the R18 versions of the crotch and boob plates that were previously "all ageified" last release.

Prices are in the document.

>>5956022
No problem, I just wanted to share something I thought you guys might like.

>>5956034
other than for the cutting the pegs off, not all that much. I mean, it'd look much better if you sand down the mold lines for sure, though. Regardless, this shouldn't produce so much resin dust that you die on it immediately. Maybe cut a couple years off your life at most.

>>5955975
I'd say it's a bit harder than 40k models just cause some of the parts are so damn tiny. Older Infinity models with the tiny, fragile antenna bits come to mind.

Prices are dropping lately. I've seen Dengeki Achs going for 10k or lower.

You just need to know how to find them on Mandarake.
>>

>banda from manda
It's more than just the price, it's that I I don't know how much I'll enjoy them. I've had a pair before, Lancamento and Espadia, and after I put the robot together I just didn't do anything with them aside from the occasional equipping them with their armours or making the beetles.

Even something relatively cheap, like Eukrante that I see at 3.5k a lot of the time, I still look at that and see, "3.5k plus whatever the shipping is for something I don't even know if I'd still like in a few weeks".

Thank you to those who emailed me, but it won't be necessary. I've dusted off my old mediafire account and should be able to share the files that way. tinyurl extensions to follow:

zxz43ks : 600 dpi gray background image, for use at, say, a kinkos.
h53zfr6 : 600 dpi transparent png for use in a decal printer that can do white ink. I think. I don't know how high of a resolution those machines can print at, so this file might be useless.
zpyg8da : 300 dpi transparent background png, should be printable in any decal printer if the above file is too big.

If you're used to building plamo, sure. She may be a little overwhelming for a first timer. She easily has more runners than any of my other FA:Gs. You do have the option of just building the base figure and then saving the heavy armor bits for later.

Honestly, the pictures in the manual are pretty straightforward, so it's not really hard. Read the gunpla guide. All of it. It eased my fears a lot and gave awesome tips when I built my first one.

My advice:
>don't rush
>do the steps in order
>if you're not great at painting, she will look fine without painting - just maybe a little bland. I was pleasantly surprised her cheeks already had a light blush.

depends on if you have an airbrush or not. Hr. Hobby Super Clear tends to be very popular with Gunpla enthusiasts because of consistent, high quality results, but it can be rather expensive. If you have an airbrush, your best route might be some of testors lacquer topcoats. They're fairly affordable and offer good results. Pic included for an example of how the matte finish looks.
>>
>>5964873
I don't have an air brush yet, so hobby clear will be my choice. It won't harm the plastic at all, right?
>>
>>5964915
nope, it's fine to go on bare plastic.
>>
>>5964873
Different anon, but I heard that lacquers can really mess up ABS plastic. Is that not actually the case? I've been putting off doing an actual top coat for fear of ruining her.
>>
>>5964995
Lacquers from cans, particularly topcoats tend to react differently with plastics due to how quickly they set. I can't speak for lacquer spray colours, but I've used lacquer topcoats for years with no ill effect.
>>
>>5964995
Thinner used in paint will make the plastic brittle so that it cracks easily, in cases it becomes so brittle that it just crumbles to pieces. That's why you need to use primer before painting.

So yeah just use Mr Hobby topcoats, you can spray those onto the plastic directly.

Probably a good idea to wash first though since Kotobukiya kits are pretty bad with residue.
>>
>>5964873
>Mr. Hobby Super Clear

But it's lacquer-based topcoat, and will eat enamels and everything not lacquer.
>>
>>5965054
You tried it before yourself or you're just regurgitating?
>>
>>5965150
if it eats plastics, I guess I've been lucky for the last 7 fucking years. I've never had it or any other lacquer based spray varnish eat my kits or any other paints. if it was an airbrush lacquer paint and had an extended drying time, it'd be a different story though. The fact the topcoat dries within a minute or less and cures very quickly keeps it from aggressively reacting with most kits. The big one to watch out for is usually enamels like humbrol without proper priming, that stuff can cause some nasty reactions with kits.

What's a good place to buy 1/12 scale furniture, weapons, etc? Is HLJ the best place?
>>
>>5965652
HLJ has alot of options, they seem to cater to it moreso than some of the others, but amiami, hobbysearch and others all carry small assembly kits that are either expressly 1/12 or fit into that scale nicely.

You can also try western sources like Etsy and Ebay for dollhouse and model supplies. 1/12 and 1" scale items fit nicely with Shinki and FA;Gs.

miniatures.com is having a 15 percent off colombus day sale right now with the coupon WPC3680 I think it's multiple use, but either way I'm not going to use it. Most miniature stuff is 1/12 scale

Japanese events and capsule toys are good for 1/12. It of course depends on how heavily invested you are into the hobby, but I'd personally say that a trip to AK Garden (1/12 only event held twice a year) is worth a trip to Japan.

Hey, does anyone here know if there's a specific pre-existing paint colour that's exactly the same as the FAG skin colour?

Don't paint the skin. Go bare plastic > matte clear > peach weathering powder for cheeks > matte clear > gloss for eyes and lips.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but it seems that for almost all hobby decal printing, it's going to be a massive pain in the rump. If you don't use a white backed paper you can't "print" white decals and the backing color bleeds through colored decals. But if you use a white decal then you lose the flexibility of being able to trim around the proximity of the image and have to be extremely accurate. So then if you bring clear decal paper to kinkos can they print white on it to get the right colors? As far as I know, commercial decals use a sort of silk-screen process.
>>
>>5967098
"massive pain in the rump" is a pretty big overstatement. Worst case scenario, just avoid white. Best case, as with eyes, just paint a bit of white under where the decal's going to go.

I guess that means you need a liquid coat and a brush.
All the advices you share here are great guys, but when you are so concise I'm left with even more questions..
>>
>>5967717
Yeah, you can buy a bottle of glosscoat and a fine brush from your local hobby shop. Or you can cheap out like me and get a bottle of clear nail polish from the dollar store.

Next time make your own colored putty by cutting up bits of sprue into a spare jar and pouring some cement into it. Leave it overnight and you have flesh colored putty. Dilute with more cement if needed.

>>
>>5967748
Nice, thanks, I had a feeling it would be a Sony but wasn't entirely sure. Also using a Sony, but a mirrorless NEX-5T as using a DSLR is a bit too uncomfortable for me despite them being cool.
>>
>>5967957
I assume he means aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Although for me the latter ones depend way too much on the time of day and available lighting so I dunno how much of a reference different values can be.
>>
>>5968031
Oh, well usually it's f/2.8, somewhere around 1/4-1/8, and ISO at 200-400 depending on the time of day.
>>
>>5968053
I wonder if my hands are too shaky or something because I usually get utter blur at 1/4

>>5968066
get steadier hands and/or invest in a tripod. Some of those shots I couldn't be assed to actually hold it steady, so I just mounted it up on a cheap tripod.
>>
>>5968091
>>5968089
Oh of course I have a tripod, could never take shots with a Sigma lens without any kind of stab otherwise. It's just a pain taking it out every time when I feel like taking a random shot.

When I hear sigma, I think of my retarded Sigma 135-400mm abomination.
>>
>>5968101
Oh boy I had an EOS 300D which looked remarkably similar to the model here (likely one of the Rebels as well).

But speaking of the lens, oh god. I just have an ordinary 60mm E-mount Sigma. Kinda wish that I could bring it closer to shinks but well, making do somehow.
>>
>>5968031
>>5968053
Controlling lighting is pretty important for getting the shot you want. With higher ISO you introduce more grain into the image so keeping that low is generally a good thing. Also if you want to take pictures of your toys with a high depth of field, you need a lot of light or more exposure time so you can stop down to like f/22 (greater depth of field). Higher f-stops (lower numbers) tend to give a shorter depth of field as does shooting close to the subject.
>>
>>5968320
If people are discussing ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, I'd assume they have a grasp of how all those factors interact with composing a proper picture.

That's not true at all, a lot of people make the mistake of letting their environment control the shot and thus think about F-stop and ISO in terms of lighting and exposure while forgetting those things will affect how your photo draws attention. Sure you can understand those concepts, but if you have a nice camera and no proper way to light things, you're just shooting yourself in the foot.

Last month I managed to get some handmade miniatures relatively cheaply from a random street stall. Got two plates of food and a tiny smartphone.

The phone's labels were peeling just a bit, so I had to cement them down with a little clear nail polish, which also helped the gloss finish.

Question for any owners of both FA girls and Figma's
while reading a blog showing them building their first Materia they mentioned this:
>Clever! They basically kept the Figma, Busou Shinki, Nendo, gunpla & etc faceplate patent while keeping things nice and light

Does this that [with maybe some modding] you could theoretically use a Figma faceplate on an FA girl?

>in before source of post:

>>
>>5968753
With some modding, you can fit anything on anything, anon. But I don't think that's what that blogger meant. More than likely they were just trying to talk about how the faces are swappable like figma/nendos are and just went slightly too verbose with it.
