News:
>Frame Arms Girl HRESVELGR is up for Preorder. Baselard and Gigantic Arms are up. The decals you get in the full set are pretty nice.
>Second wave of Desktop Army, Chrom, up for preorder
>Second wave of Megami Device up for preorder but usual suspects are all out for now.
>the Shinki kits are kind of in limbo with no official release dates, but they're still showing off the prototypes

Where to buy second hand Shinkis:
>eBay, Amazon - generally overpriced, but you might get lucky.
>Mandarake, Rakuten - search 武装神姫 and don't trust listing images.
>Yahoo Japan Auctions, Suruga-ya - you'll need a proxy if you’re not in Japan.
>Taobao - some shops ship international now, so you might not need a proxy.
>Amiami, Jungle-scs - occasionally get some preowned.
>Check the BST threads, My Figure Collection, and Busou Shinki World too.

1/12 clothes like Picco Neemo fit these, but they tend to be loose or baggy.
We need to collect some resources like tiny tailoring tutorials and patterns.

Before Busou Shinki, there was Amdriver, a painfully generic anime and videogame property by Konami that had these figures. The figures lasted a few waves and were a lot more popular than the games or show, and Konami based Shinki on the success of that line
>>
>>5931347
And there's one at Mandy right now, pretty cheap too.
>>
>>5931347
Amdriver was painful to watch, in a "aping TakaraTomy/Toei/Bandai shows" way done badly.

I wonder how hard it would be to recreate Gone With The Blastwave shot for shot with customized Megami Device girls....
>>
Got my bunny FAGs today and I'm a quarter way though building her. I think she's the best engineered FAG yet. They keep improving little things like the waist, hips and chest. They've even done a little change to the font base of the neck so you don't get that awkward gap if she tilts her head back like the others do.

All my money belongs to Koto.

With just how good these kits are getting I really can't wait for Megami Device. I also hope they do a retooling of Gourai and Stylet some day.
>>
>>5932675
>Stylet
I just got done with all of mine save the head and I think I'm going to have nightmares. Aside from my own (numerous fuck ups) I noticed that the leg articulations are kind of strange. The ankles especially have no forward range due to the armor.
>>
>>5932689

> The ankles especially have no forward range due to the armor.

That's a thing with the entire line. Gourai is worse I think.

Don't give up Anon.

Well technically fags don't have an actual scale. Not sure about those megami yet though.

>>5926868
Well if shinki are 1/1 scale because they are full size reproductions of a fictional robot series... Would it be fair to say that becoming an actual tiny robot mecha musume make you 1/12 scale rather then 1/1 since you are now the actual thing and thus modeled off of human beings now?

Everything about Megami I've seen that lists a scale puts them at 1/1.

That being said, they're all about the same size as a 1/12, and looking for 1/1 weapons, accessories, dioramas, or clothing would not be very helpful.
>>
For the anon that said another publisher picked up the Desktop Army book, any idea where it's being sold? Amiami still lists it as unavailable.

Wow, talk about customer service.
The 1st 4 muscuto figures I bought were from the first run.
During the second run he added extra hands and a rifle.
Checked my order for the 2 kits that arrived today and he's included 4 extra sets of hands and rifles for the original kits that didnt have them.

Guy sounds like an absolute Bro and the kind of guy I'd do business with often. Too bad I'm not into resin and his designs don't quite do it for me.
>>
>>5933332
Yeah, muscuto just seems really awesome. I got my kits in the mail today, and wow, people weren't kidding about the resin quality. Easily the cleanest casts I've seen.
>>
>>5933362
I heard there's varying blends of resin. There's supposed to be the hard, brittle stonelike resin, and then there's this one by Privater Press(?) or P3 that has more pliable resin?

Anyone know about this? The idea of a more pliable blend of resin sounds far more viable for non-statue stuff.

2009 I think. Import toy store in the city had Dengeki fishtits and best girl for fucking 80AUD each.
Googled what the line was and was impressed, but I was a huge poorfag student and never bought them.
>>
>>5934541
About 2010, I think. I found them on eBay while Transformer hunting, but I kinda ignored them at the time. Then, early 2014, a friend of mine who was heavily into them convinced me to get one with my tax refund, and 2 years on, I have about 20+...he roped me into Figmas as well, so along with the old Revoltech mechs I used to grab at every SDCC, I am innundated with Japanese plastic crack and loving it.

...of course, I WOULD get into a line just as it died. Happened with Xevoz back in the day, too.

Do it. We need more shinki content in here.
>>
>>5934729
This is the Shinki thread. It's lasted 4 years with no line. We're about 1:1 robot house assistants, cute pictures and general faggotry.

We talk FAGs and Megami Device because they're made by Shinki body designer APSY, and Megami Device are intentionally Shinkis with Konami's trademark filed off. We talk Desktop Army because it's by BLADE, who designed the four most popular animal shinkis. Anything not-shinki related isn't talked about here, because that's not what this general is about.

If you want a mecha musume thread for that aspect of FAGs, AGP or Desktop Army, go ahead and make it. DTA got its own thread and no-one complained. But don't try to make this general what it isn't.

What about 1/1 robots like LBX from Danball Senki or those 1/12 Kotobukiya kits from Phantasy Star Online? Or Orichalcum Reycal?
>>
>>5934895

We've mentioned Reycal maybe once, but it never had traction. The PSO kits had APSY's involvement but we've never been about them, because they're not houserobots. And LBX, last I checked, are neither sentient nor girls. They've never been talked about in the general's existence.

People who like those things like them for different reasons than we like Shinki. So they're best talked about elsewhere. But we did talk about Hoi-Hoi kits for a while a couple years ago.

The 1:1 Combat-san chokogin is way bigger than your typical Shinki, but her specs in the manga are basically like a glorified budget laptop compared to the power-efficient shinki.

Her joints are pretty good tho.
>>
>>5934938
There are Koto model kits, not sure if the are smaller or bigger than Chokogin
And yep, in manga you could see how POWER HUNGRY those "bug killers" were
>>
>>5934938

We used to joke that Hoi-Hoi was shinki canon, set 15-20 years earlier, and was just the first generation of machines before they had robust AI or personalities, or were miniaturized.

Eventually, insect pests were all but eliminated, and the production lines in order to save themselves diversified into tournament fighting, and then general companionship.

With Koto's history of multi-use accessories and specifically transforming motorcycles, I would be shocked if it couldn't.

Might need to buy two, though.

>>5935118
I bought two, but that was before Megami Devices were announced so I'll likely be selling one when it gets here to make up some of that money. Keep an eye on here or the BST.
>>
>>5935183
Who cares? It's a scifi bike, I I'm going to get it anyway..
>>
>>5935183
I don't see it transforming into a mech.

What I do see is it being very modular like most MSG stuff and some nip modeler finding a simple method of kitbashing it with gigantic arms or other koto stuff so that it can transform.

I think she's still up on HLJ and Amiami.

>>
>>5934882
>We talk Desktop Army because it's by BLADE
only the first wave, and the second wave's body since it was reused.

they're still made in the spirit of shinkis, as tiny robot girls with modular/customizable armor and weapons.

I'm not sure how much APSY has to do with FA girls, but fumikane got to play charadesigner for most of the ones made thus far, so close enough to shinki-ism in that regard, and as of baselard they're getting more shinki-like.

>>5935183
>>5935214
probably not "transform", but being a gigantic arms thing and being advertised as compatible with the upcoming "hexagear" line, which is all modularity and whatnot too, being able to make powerarmor out of it is probably a given.
>>
>>5935338
Second wave for Desktop Army is designed by the person who did Lancamento and Espadia.

Generally when you put on decals, you want to put down a glosscoat/varnish first cause decals adhere better to glossy surfaces. That's why the face is glossy.

These images are from Muscuto's twitter in any case.

Also, read the gunpla guide. I'm pretty sure there's info on decals there.
>>
It's not entirely covered in the guide so I'm wondering if anyone here has used matte topcoat to dull the plastic shine on FAG hair.

I'm using the most minimal amount of paint possible since I lack any airbrush equipment.
>>

Who else with the Muscuto girls are putting pasties on the breasts?

Thank God I obsessively buy anything with Shinki branding. Think I'm going to do pawprints for Sand Sakura, but I can't decide between hearts, regular band-aids, or the x bandages for the others. Even the screws might look cute on Ice Cracker.

Watchmaker here. Please get cancer and fucking die.

How long do you think something like that would take? 10, maybe 15 hours, plus the time spent negotiating with your cheap ass and buying supplies on your behalf?

For that to even be worth somebody's time, you're looking at $300 already.

Then you add the cost of materials and equipment, then the cost of shipping it back to you, and you arrive at about $350 as the minimum.

From here, here's where I can see the $150 coming from:
1) The obvious one: they charge more because they're good at what they do and you receive a superior end product. They charge this much as standard because it's extremely demoralizing to work on something you know you're being underpaid for.
2) Part of the cost of replacement parts is included in the price; insurance of sorts. If something gets fucked up, even if it's not their fault, entitled little shits like you love to throw tantrums. In the service industry, if someone charges a much lower price than their competitors, you can safely assume that they are not liable for any damages.
3) They just hate your guts and would rather not deal with you at all unless they're getting $500 for it. I sure wouldn't.

I don't know what kind of price you were expecting, but if it's anything less than $300 you're insane.

Lemme see if I can price up a list of materials that I used for my kits from Muscuto.

DX Sand Sakura + Initial shipping 25 USD + initial paypal fee 3% (unless gifted)
108.15 USD

Loctite professional liquid super glue w/o shipping:
5.97

4 sets of 2.5mm magnets and 1 set of 1mm magnets from Hobbysearch w/o shipping:
1175 JPY

Mr Super Clear Gloss w/o shipping:
10.99 USD per can

Mr Super Clear Matte UV Cut w/o shipping:
12.99 USD per can

Decal setter w/o shipping:
3.99 USD

Tamiya Weathering Master H not w/o shipping:
6.99 USD

9mm snap blades w/o shipping:
2.27 USD

1000 grit sandpaper w/o shipping:
3.34 USD

So a total of 154.69 USD + 1175 JPY without any shipping fees except for Muscuto's kit since the price of shipping and everything for that is already established.

I have quite a few shinki already and I'm thinking about getting the frame arms girls
Can I get away with some basic panel lining and a quick spray of matte or do they look like dogshit if I'm not a gunpla expert?
>>
>>5941994
That's minus the labor.

10 hours on that kit is pretty accurate from having built 2-3 of them.
>>
>>5942085
Depends on the kit, really. You still have to do some detailing for them to look good since some parts aren't painted the proper color, like gourai and stylet's abdominal armor.

Stylet requires the most paint out if all of them though.

Bunnylard seemingly doesn't need paint whatsoever outside of some minor sensor bits so if you want to avoid painting at all, that's your best bet.
>>
>>5942094

I guess I can just use basic white or blue coat on any MSG stuff I add to it

>Mr Super Clear Gloss/Matte
>Tamiya Weathering Master H
New to the whole Gunpla thing here, I can pretty much guess what everything else is used for, but can't guess how did you used those three. Care to explain?
Thanks
>>
>>5942560
the gloss/matte is the last layer you apply to the figure, the matte is applied to the armored bits, the gloss to the non armored bits. The weathering master is used to apply a wethered effect to the model.
>>
>>5942574
So..are they mandatory?
The weathered effect I see it based on personal tastes, the gloss/matte are really needed if you don't apply any paint on the model?
>>
>>5942588
The clears are mandatory since without the gloss, the decals will end up silvering and without the matte, you'll have glossy skintones. The weathering master H is used to detail the skintone parts of that particular kit.

>>
>>5942750
Tamiya's weathering master H, as the post says.

Specifically the peach.

You could use normal artist's pastels, but that means you have to grind the shit up yourself which usually doesn't end up with fine enough pigments for a good gradient.

>>
>>5942762
Fuck.

That's cute as hell.
>>
>>5943257
They're completely categories of modifications and you're comparing apples to pizza.

I don't plan on ever drilling out the eyes of my kits and buying hard to find (in the States) wave parts to give my frame arms girls a 3d concave effect on their eyes.

I'd prefer recasting the faces and printing my own decals over that since that at least lets me control where my figure is looking instead of always looking at the camera.
>>
>>5943286
The spray can basically be used on anything including FAGs, gunpla, automobiles, whatever.
The spray is for protection, not for sticking. You have to use a mark setter for that , but it's not a requirement though.
Also, PLEASE read the gunpla thread for more guides.
>>
>>5943131
It goes like this

Bare resin > Gloss > decal > decal setter solution (optional) > gloss (optional) > Matte

The gloss below the decal is there to provide a better, more uniform surface for the decal to adhere to since matte surfaces like what resin usually is tends to create air bubbles beneath the decal.

>>5943280
I do, but I don't plan on doing any commissions unless you gift the money so I'm not risking anything coming out of my pocket.
>>
>>5942574

I'm seriously considering a commission. I already have a muscuto kit. Complete and unopened. Would you be willing to assemble it? Would that adjust the price?
>>
>>5943463
I already have mr mark setter and softer, I'm just not sure if i should seal the face before applying the decals or just clean it and use the setter. Do you only seal beforehand on resin because it's a material with more tooth than plamo?
>>
>>5943486
Glass eye look is creepy.

>>5943489
It'd be minus the kit price from that total and then adding on labor. The price I put up was only for materials and the kit.

>>5943500
I'd say avoid mark setter and softer if at all possible with the decals on muscuto's kits since they're extremely delicate. Even too much watet melts them.

Also, as I explained >>5943464
you seal the resin/plastic in gloss before applying decals. It's not just good practice to do on resin, but plastic too. Both materials are porous.

The blog says today for the Kotoshop, yes. But I'm assuming it will show up on other stores since it's not an exclusive. It's just we don't know exactly what time, but amiami has a tendency to update at midnight eastern.
>>
>>5947210
You just cut up the sprue into little chunks and put it in a glass jar submerged in the cement and wait for the cement to dissolve the plastic. That's literally it. It's not something so difficult that you should need someone else to spell it out for you.

we laevatain now

but seriously what is that weapon? I don't think it's been released yet.

As for innocentia herself, the thing I like the most about the kit is the gloves and thighhighs and the inclusion of extra holes on the back, but I'm not too keen of the design of the waist area. I much prefer the skirt designs on the other fags. She's a definite improvement on the materia obviously.
>>

The amazing this is that unless you do some very specific shading or painting on a FAG to make it look like a real 1/100 to match your FAs, at the end of the day it's a piece of plastic that's scaled well enough to fit in any number situations you could want it to be in. It can be 1/1 to 1/144 all in the span of mere minutes with minimal effort.
>>
>>5947346
Me too, I'm also hoping that amiami isn't more expensive than places like hobby search again. Amiamis cheap prices seem to keep slipping with each thing I Pre order. At this rate I'm going to cash in my points and go elsewhere. Not before writing them an email telling them they're losing a customer. Cheap prices was the only thing they had going for them.
>>
>>5947845

i don't think they'll give a shit. they'll be sold out anyways
>>
>>5947845

also, i find hobby search is cheaper for the stuff I buy at least, especially when I factor in r-sal
>>
>>5946804
Where do you go to see when POs are being put up? Their twitter? I've never seen anything on their main site that shows it.
>>
>>5947847
Not being the cheapest anymore will hurt them eventually. They're not going to go out of business or anything, they just won't be as strong as they were before. As people go elsewhere the prices will creep up more to compensate.
>>
>>5947864

conjecture

they sell a kajillion different items, some of them dirt cheap some really pricy. heck they probably put up the price because the owner's on vacay and dosen't want to deal with shit until feb like where i work

Definitely just wait unless you want that blonde catgirl goodness. Proxying is just going to take longer and be more expensive; you're sitting right here to snap up other sites' orders as soon as they pop up anyway, no need to panic too hard about getting sniped or the like.

Wait, am I reading this right? Does Amiami somehow have the HLJ Baselard recolor but with a bunch of extra faceplates too?

>>

Oh, so they are unrelated. More importantly though, the bonuses: not special. Amico is just charging an extra 700 yen, huh? Whatever, I already had one ordered anyway.

>>5948195

>>
>>5948197
I was considering just ordering a ton and shipping them out to whoever needs some. The hard part is getting the order made and the expensive part is getting a shipment started period; there's no real reason to just order one person's worth of these.
>>
>>5948195
Same!
>>
>>5948196
Same here. I'm not using ami if I don't have to.
>>
>>5948205
I would order quite a few if someone organized a group buy
>>
>>5948197
Extra face plates? All FAGs have the same face plate structure, right?

I'd probably ask for six, three for each I guess, since I'm most likely NOT going to use that lens effect mod.

Are we going to have a middleman in Japan bundle it up and ship it out? Sometimes shipping from Japan costs far less than Japan -> US -> wherever
>>
>>5948261
>Are we going to have a middleman in Japan bundle it up and ship it out?
Seems unlikely; if we had someone that would do that handy we'd all already be using him. Domestic shipping does get ridiculous too. How would we even package these? A padded envelope seems most economical but I'm not sure I'd trust USPS or anyone not to shred it to pieces. Would it be enough anyway though? Unpainted faceplates shouldn't be especially fragile.
>>
>>5948242
Seconding. Something like what Richie does.
>>
>>5948269
From how I understand the likes of Koto JP's spare parts service is that it's for internal use in Japan to begin with. I might be wrong on this?
>>
>>5948114

>>
> Have some MSGs kits for a while now

Picked these up randomly (or given) but I'm shit at kits. Where can I turn to get some idea on how to properly work on these at the very least?
>>
>>5948288
I don't think they ship internationally, but all that means is we need to use a forwarder or maybe a proxy. That's not insurmountable, just a bit more expensive and troublesome. The trick is, most forwarders are going to get an order in and send it to one person, not a bunch of different people in multiple countries as >>5948261 proposed. We'd need someone from here or someone that was friends with someone from here to do that.

It's also possible Koto will limit how many plates we can get in one go which would be annoying too.
>>
>>5948181
>>5948171
>>5948195
You guys have the cart before the horse, at least in the minds of HJ. You're buying the book with the baselard as the bonus hook.

Also I had the weirdest feeling earlier today and had the sudden compulsion to check in the thread to see if anything was going up. Sure enough there was. Picked up 3 from HS because why not. Also I didn't see it in any of the other promo shots but she has an amazing smug face grin plate. I don't think it's supposed to be smug, but its really smug.
>>
>>5948324
>You guys have the cart before the horse, at least in the minds of HJ.
Who cares? I know what I'm actually buying, the distributors know what I'm actually buying and you know what I'm actually buying. For that matter HJ themselves must realize why their purchase numbers are suddenly spiking, though they still do get the perks associated with selling lots of magazines. I doubt there's any illusion to anyone here, yours seems like a silly point to raise.

The fact that they were behind in the first place is the first move that put me towards HS. The second was the fact that it's a march release and I've nothing to combine the shipment with in the private warehouse anyway.

Aside from sometimes being marginally lower priced that HS, the primary reason I use them is the flexibility of their private warehouse service.

Yeah, I've got an order in on HS just to make sure I get some, but at this point I'm wondering if there's even going to be a point in switching. I got two anyway, and with three or four things in an order you start hitting the point where combining may not even necessarily be the best of ideas.
>>
>>5949529
can't really blame it for being dead when the line's dead. they did set up a "not shinkis but close enough" subsection, but given the whole "lack of news = lack of users" thing it doesn't make a load of difference. shit's kinda like this thread, except all the shitposters and most of the picfags got bored and went elsewhere.
