Are the Mattel figures worth the 20ish bucks at all? I've heard that the armor bits are rubbery, but that they're more playable/toy-ish/durable than McFarlane was. Any worth a buy?

I wish mcfarlane kept all halo waves the same scale. Covenant from halo 3 series were great, but the spartans from everything up seem great, yet the scales were thrown off from 3 to reach

No.
They're just too ugly to consider buying. McFarlane really spoiled me in what to expect from the figures. Everything about Mattel's crap looks like dollar store quality now.

They dont look as good as mcfarlane, though they still look pretty decent (they look fantastic if you are someone who is good at repainting toys, there were a couple people that posted their repainted versions on here when the figures first came out). If you want to pose them/play with them they are pretty good from what i've seen, unlike halo 4 and 5 mcfarlane where the best you could do was have them stand there kinda holding their guns.

I know it's not the same style of energy sword as you may want but what I did was I snagged the one halo five McFarlane Spartan that came with it for like five or so bucks from toys r us when they put them on double clearance. Think the blue hell jumper has it if I am remembering the name right.

I never had one of those four or five figures before so I'm glad I only got them at five dollars, woulda felt really bad even at the normal clearance of ten dollars. Man do these things suck. But now I got an energy sword for my elites.

Are there any Halo Figures that are approximately the same size as Figuarts? Maybe a little bigger. but definitely not smaller, since Spartans are supposed to be 7 feet tall. All I ever see are McFarlane and those are tiny hideous things.

Kinda. It's the armor setup I used for my Noble Six in Reach, based on the first appearance of Noble Six in the teaser. Just with a black visor and a first aid kit.

They took off the uparmor helmet piece in later official appearances to make it barebones default, but I like the original appearance better.

The deluxe action figures and statues are awesome and all, but for me the Mega Bloks ones are where it's at. When I think Halo I think squads blowing each other away in a giant battlefield. I just can't do that with the big ones, I need inexpensive variety and customization.

What'd you do to make the Chief's visor not shit?

1. Pry the visor out of the helmet using a small flathead screwdriver. Careful not to bend off its side which is thinner than the "body" of the visor which is a bit meaty. It's just weakish glue holding it in.
2. Sand it down smooth.
3. Apply an adhesive gold fingernail foil. I picked up a cheap pack on ebay.
4. Trim the edges of the foil off with scissors, clippers, hobby knife, kinda fold it onto the sides a bit too.
5. Glue visor back into the helmet.

Seeing all the expensive nice figures of Halo 2/3/reach era stuff makes me sad. The designs are so much better than what we currently have.

At least I like the Didact and Promethean knight design.

I was lucky to find Guilty Spark though. Just found him in a super small grocery store toy section a few years ago.

And I got the Big blue spartan from a thrift store for like 4 bucks.

I got it from an Amazon 3rd party retailer at the end of its normal retail run, when stores were clearancing them. I picked up a few actually, for the included ODST Rookie for customizing purposes, and ebayed the spare drop pods. They came out to about $20 ea shipped.
