I like them a lot. They really help give the Zaku a sense of scale, as if it's this big lumbering machine instead of a little plastic toy. I also like how modular the set is, you can basically put it in any configuration you can think of, there's plenty of ports for stage act stands and the buildings themselves all have square AC unit things on their rooves that can be removed to reveal a stage act port underneath. The buildings are a little plain being un-painted and all but that can be easily remedied. I will definitely be picking up the undamaged version.

Since the Macross thread died and this seems the most relevant place to put it, the Hi-Metal R Millia's VF-1J went up for pre-order as a web exclusive on the 16th. Comes with the customized stands for Millia and Max's units, the normal suspects have pre-orders up for it now.

Yes

>>
>>5913799
To say I rarely give much of a damn about scale. The fact those buildings make the Zaku look a lot bigger than the nearly 18 metres somewhat bothers me.
Even still, they look great together.
>>
>>5916162
It's a mega-zaku!
>>
>>5916169
Or maybe its a village of midgets?

I've always wondered if a city existed entirely of midgets, would they make everything smaller? Think of how much money they would save!
>>
>>5916169
Time to get some buildings to display with a Megasize Zaku for Mega Mega Zaku fun.
>>
>>5916176
Or you could put them on the shoulder of a 1/12 Zaku and have mega mega-zaku on mega-mega mega-zaku fun!

And then you could go to Gundam Front and do mega mega-zaku on mega-mega mega-zaku on mega mega-mega mega-zaku!
>>
>>5916202
And at that point you will have mega'd all the Zaku's.

I fear that Japan will continue to make even bigger Zaku's, making this into a never-ending cycle.
>>
>>5916211

This now makes me even more painfully ware of how much we need new molds of the early SEED RDs, and that isn't even touching Destiny and Strike Freedom.

Articulation in the legs is non-existant. If you can deal with that they make some great looking figures and their weapons also fit on RD figures.

Awesome, thanks for the info! Never knew they hid stage ports on the buildings, that's really cool. Are the buildings stable enough to actually support an RD that's being held aloft without tipping over, though? I want to get two of the same set (so I can have matching street bases) but I just can't decide between the damaged or undamaged set. I dig the mix of damaged/undamaged buildings in the damaged set, but I prefer the undamaged street base. Such a dilemma, haha.

Tempted to pick up the D-Spec Metal Gear Rex. Looks kinda neat from the reviews I can find, anyone have any thoughts to share on it?
>>

The buildings also have ports on the bottom as well that connect them to the base itself, so it should be pretty sturdy. I guess it depends on what you're trying to put there. I haven't actually tried it myself yet.

>Preordered, can't wait to have the pair of 'em together!

Won't deny a little bit of buttmad that Millia is coming out 4 months later and as a web exclusive. But I guess it was to be expected. Definitely looking forward to it myself. That and looking forward to them finally releasing super-packs by themselves at some nebulous future point.

For GFFS get the Big O FA Suits, HWS Nu, FAZZ, etc, even with RD articulation your suit's going to be a brick when you slap on Full Armor, and if you're going to be standing there looking good, GFF is still heads and shoulders above RD. Also it nullifies the other main complaint of GFF which is the armor popping off too too much. They're not going to if it's in a standing position.

I'll recommend a nu-gundam HWS if you're looking to get the next GFF, it's big and bulky and looks majestic standing there. Also there's not that many alternative release of the HWS in other lines that I know of. Also the fin funnel attaches a lot firmer than the RD Nu.

The GP-02 is another good one, since we're not going to get anything from 0083 anytime soon, if ever. Also that huge shoulder pads and bazzoka and shield is more than likely to make if a brick regardless of RD articulation or not

both releases are only like 3 to 4k yen on Mandy
>>
>>5921541

I will say this, I do enjoy the GFF figures I have despite their lack of posability. On some of them the arms come off way too easy though and it can be very annoying.
>>
>>5922547
I feel like the RD line mostly replaced the MSIA line, but we never got a replacement line for GFF,

I'm guessing the Ver Ka RDs are supposed to be the successor to GFF lines but the details are still not up to par

F91 is what you do when you need to make a release to keep the line relevant but couldn't decide on a good choice.

The strike freedom is a pretty hard act to follow, for better or worse. Hopefully the F91 would have a lower price to break the increasingly more costly MB trend

>I'm guessing the Ver Ka RDs are supposed to be the successor to GFF lines but the details are still not up to par

The RD Ka Signature is the replacement for GFF. I'm not sure what specific details you are talking about when you say "not up to par". GFF has nice details and nice pre-marking labels, but some small areas on them suffered from warping, parts like the forehead V-fins and other delicate detail would be slightly off, and some of the paint apps in spots could be better. I feel like the Ka Signature line does a better job in these areas, along with being less fragile than GFF, but that is expected considering the higher price tag, relatively, compared to the GFFs.

>>5922547
>I will say this, I do enjoy the GFF figures I have despite their lack of posability.

I do too. What MSiA was to plastic Gundam kits, GFF was to resin gundam kits. The Katoki style is popular among resin Gundam modeling. The GFF looked different than their HGUC or MSIA counterparts. I hate to sound like a Katoki fanboy, but his little touches really make the original lineart designs of Mobile Suits look better, most of the time.

It also comes with a fuckton of effect parts and ports all over the body. You can even have it shooting beam sabers out of his feet if you wanted to. They're compatible with other ANIME figures too should you get any others.

I really hope they have a version without the White Base deck. It's really fucking cool and all but I'm not sure I want to shell out the cash for a diorama piece I don't have the room or desire to make the room for.

How is SRC Giant Robo? I absolutely love Giant Robo: The Animation and it's a really tempting figure at that sale price on HLJ.

Also, what are the best toy iterations for each of Imagawa's main robots? SRC seems like best option for GR and Shin Mazinger, while SOC seems good for 2004 Tetsujin. Obviously going to go for the RDs of Shining, God and Master Gundam. Would I be correct in assuming these would be my best options?
>>
>>5925375
Expect it to be a couple hundred bucks or so. Also plan on camping the Japanese preorder sites when the preorders go up. Metal Builds sell out notoriously quickly.

How are the L-Gaim robot spirits? I was interested in their Ashura Temple.
Is that Graia out yet?

Also holy shit that Dougram. Blockhead soon?
>>
>>5925632
I only own the L-Gaim Spiral Booster set, It has a lot of nice details, like cords on the back of the legs. The articulation is pretty good and it comes with an okay amount of accessories. My only complaint is that it is all molded in a white plastic that I personally find unsightly, but other than that it is great. So I assume that the others in the line are good as well
>>
>>5925627
Anime-Export took extra long to ship Char's Dom. They said they shipped it on the 31st but tracking didnt start updating until like 8 days after. I think there was some kind of error because it showed that it had been logged into the Japanese post office at the exact date and time that I had first decided to check the tracking and then it showed up at my door when the tracking said it had just arrived in the US. Took like 12 or 13 days to get something I ordered EMS though.
>>
>>5925663
I'm guessing there's been an across-the-board increase in shipping time.

That just looks satisfying, a bit conflicted though; since I only ever like the Full Armour with the plating sections equipped. Yet the colour choices have me even liking the vanilla Full Armour.

>Can anyone else think of some off the wall OYW era suits in this vein that they might do?

I'm almost expecting a GM Sniper Custom to show up at the next Tamashii Nations show. Either something like the Desert Zaku for the ANIME line, or a Ka Sig. version like Katoki did for the GFF line years ago. Though this is only since I really feel they're lacking a solid Federation MS release for the 'MSV' sub line admittedly.

Even though that seemingly gone Bluefin 'rep' said the model and figure divisions don't actively compete. With the news drop of the MG GM Sniper II, would not be surprised if the Figures side put out display prototypes for the two versions simultaneously hahaha!
>>
>>5928336
Hmmm......does the guntank model sell like shit? Cause if so, maybe they looked at those metrics.

So many awesome announcements! Particularly hyped for the FA RX-78. Looks superb (those effect parts!) and I love how it's exactly what anon was asking for in the last thread, haha.

>>5925056
The decals included with Ka Signatures are waterslides though, so they look pretty good once applied. I wholly agree that it's a pain to do, though (I've never bothered applying 'em, heh), and was definitely the one area where they inferior to GFFs.

That being said, ever since missile-butt Xi and Penelope, Ka Signatures have had fully painted/tampo-ed markings! While with Xi & Penelope you had the option of buying versions that were unmarked, Refined Barzam and the FA Mk II were both released fully deco-ed, and the upcoming Ex-S and Dijeh will be similarly deco-ed up.

Seems to be the new standard going forward, and while it adds a nice chunk of change to the price, I'm really happy with the direction because it really looks great.

Welcome aboard, anon! For cool/weird designs, I'd heartily recommend checking out the Dunbine and Dragonar series of RDs (the Dunbine line in particular may do it for you, with a unique insect influence on its designs). Both lines have universally great figures and are fairly readily available.

These two are from Dragonar!

>>5925678
Great catch anon! Had no idea they were including decals. Planning to grab two GMs, so the decals are gonna be awesome to differentiate 'em.

>>5926722
Bandai did a good job with the Hi-Metal Armored VF-1J and the ANIME Zaku's missile pods attach super securely, so I'm confident they'll do well here. Especially considering the armor needs to be able to securely support the missile effect parts too.

Finally got around to gettin' a Qubeley! Overall I like it, since I'm a big fan of the design. It's glossy finish is especially great, though it's lacking in the articulation department quite a bit. It just strikes me as odd how there can be such disparity between releases from this line at times. I guess maybe it's just Qubeley's design that hinders it, but there are also some areas where it doesn't even seem like they tried to incorporate some of the articulation that other RD's usually have...

>>5924576

You guys are so helpful, heh. But seriously, this design never stood out much to me before, but knowing how great the base figure is, and seeing all the great stuff he comes with... I can't pass up on this guy.

Now if only there were another way to get the effects parts that come with Char's Zaku without having to get Char's Zaku...

>>5928391
Another one of the MSV designs I never really had a thing for, but imagining it as an A.N.I.M.E. figure changes how I feel about it completely.

>Can anyone else think of some off the wall OYW era suits in this vein that they might do?
I could see them doing a few GM variants. Something like a GM Cannon and this GM Sniper Custom would make the most sense, and maybe one recolor variant like a White Dingo GM (oh god if they did this... I would love to have a full team of White Dingo suits).

>>5932088
It can get very close. Kneeling is possible and doesn't look too unnatural, and getting the rifle in position is good too. The biggest issue I can remember from when I had one was lining up the head with the sight, but I overlooked that since he has a separate visor on his helmet for targeting.

What bugs me about the Qubeley is not its articulation is worse than most RD's but that it can't even do things the MSIA and HCM pro did. The way the sabers don't actually slot into the wrists and you get a partswap, and that the beam effects aren't even intended to fit into the partswap despite the wrist blasters being so iconic. It would have been awfully nice to get funnels not attached to the effect part, too.

They definitely don't try as hard with certain mechs, its obvious. The Rick Dias similarly feels half assed but it at least is nice and solid because of it.

Ugh, I wanna get 3 of the Tri Star Vierres, but just one is already $100 before shipping on NY.

I normally preorder everything, but I might have to take the risk and hope that it ends up cheaper on amiami...

Not really, at least with that rifle. I have mine using an MSIA GM Sniper's beam rifle and it works perfectly. It can pull actual shooting/sniping poses.

>>
>>5932292
I dunno! I'm sorry, I always liked the standard Zakus more, and I just don't really feel the need to own Char's Zaku. I'll probably change my mind though, because I really want those effect parts.

It's really hard to resist collecting all of the A.N.I.M.E. line... I only have the Gundam right now, but everyone hypes up the Dom, and I want a Zaku II, but then Char's Zaku II comes with all the effects, and now Guncannon and GM are looking good too...

>>5933593
>>5933619
>>5933812
I like the markings on it, especially the little Federation logo on his left bicep. Though that random change of the head camera from blue to green was a bit of mistake if you ask me. Blue looked a lot better in the pre-release pics.
>>
>>5933963
Char's Zaku is probably the worst of the ANIME figures with it's loose legs and locking mechanism in the knees.
>>
>>5934018
>http://blog.livedoor.jp/hacchaka/archives/51989774.html
Mine has no such leg losseness.
>>
>>5934018
And see, I've been hearing this from a lot of others here, which is another reason I'm not sure I want it. Does the standard Zaku suffer from the same issues? And what exactly is the issue with the locking knees?

I just wish they would've spaced out those effect parts a bit better. It would've made more sense to pack the bazooka effect in with the Dom, and maybe the explosion effect with the standard Zaku. But as it is now, Char's Zaku is the "key" to having a bit more fun with the A.N.I.M.E. line, at least on the Zeon side.
>>
>>5934042
The upper knee joints are forced into one of two positions, if you try to put it into a position in between those two points it reverts one way or the other.
>>
>>5934042
And no the Zaku II does not have these issues.

>>5934042
>And what exactly is the issue with the locking knees?
It's as >>5934062 says, but as an analogy, if you're familiar with Marvel Legends, the joint kind of feels like the joints on those toys, where the joint has a position it prefers to go into but you can sit in between the preferred positions if you want (sort of like a pseudo-ratchet joint).

And anon already said it, but it should be stressed that this "preferred position" thing is only on the upper knee joint; the lower knee joint is a normal smooth joint. The way it works in practice is when you bend the knee, the lower knee joint starts bending first. As you bend the lower knee joint more, you'll sort of "activate" the upper knee joint to bend and as the upper knee joint gets into its preferred position, that gets your knee into a 45 degree bend. Then, from there you can continue bending the lower knee joint freely until you have the lower leg almost flat against the upper leg.

Another way to describe it, the upper knee joint has basically two preferred positions; unbent and 45 degree bent, but to compensate for that the lower knee joint is free to go into any position it wants.

Not sure how clear/unclear that description is coming across, haha. I guess what I'm getting at is that while I can understand people who dislike this, it's not a big deal to me. I can still get the leg into essentially whatever position I want and I've never felt hindered by how the upper knee joint behaves.

And again, as anon pointed out, the grunt Zaku II has normal, smooth joints on both upper/lower knee. Oh, and just to note, my Char hasn't had any issues with looseness, but then I haven't had him in any extreme poses for an extended period time or anything.

I still think Char's Zaku is worth grabbing, especially considering how often it goes on sale. The sweet effect parts it includes add some nice value to the package. HLJ has it for 2750 JPY til the 30th:

http://hlj.com/product/BANN03820
>>
>>5934258
The legs are the same but the joints are definitely retooled, its joints do not 'lock' in the same manner.

>>5934042
They're needlessly annoying but its not that big of a deal. I had a much bigger issue with how loose its hips were out of the box. Luckily that is an easy fix since they're just ball joints.
>>
>>5934273
I still just can't take Regults seriously. But I love me some Glaug.

I wouldn't go that far, but your not without merit either (poor Domon lol). Really depends on how well each RD is articulated and each attachment piece (i.e. skirt armor) doesn't limit the posability of the RD.
