Figures you collect from series that you have neither read nor watched the source material for
only watched a few minutes of Blade.
Like 80% of my collection
>>5907249
The only thing I collect that I haven't seen everything of is gunpla, but I'll eventually finish Seed and 00.
I also don't really watch much Kaiju but I can't get enough of Godzilla related stuff.
And I bought the Lupin the 3rd figuarts without ever watching the show
>>5907269
I really recommend watching Castle of Cagliostro
>>5907249
Two Gunpla, one from IBO, another from AGE.
>>5907249
I have a couple MS Girls and the only giant robot anime period that I've ever watched were Big O and Heavy Object.
I've also got a couple boats and swords, but I don't know if those really count.
>>5907276
Seconded.
I almost just bought this because it was cheap and looked cool
No clue what it is
>>5907336
Go watch GunBuster NOW.

>Figures you collect from series that you have neither read nor watched the source material for
Almost nothing. I like too many characters that get figures to even start thinking of getting figures of some I know nothing about. And when I see a figure that catches my attention I make sure to watch the source material before buying it.
>living room full of TF, Mcfarlane horrors, and vidya shit
>suddenly, animu girls bordering the TV
I like cast-offs so far and I'm open to suggestions. These revoltechs are neat as fuck
>>5907342
Okay but I'll be real bummed if it's a sick show and then I go back to get it and it's gone, but I think $80 is still too much for most people who encounter it at this store
I have over 20 Precure Figuarts but have never seen a single episode. I have like 6 series downloaded but no plans to watch them.
I had 3 Love Live Figuarts without having seen a single episode. Watched it earlier this year
I've only seen the first season of Sailor Moon but have all nine of the Senshi Figuarts
Have all the Love Plus Figma but don't even know what it is
I'd say most of my Figma are from things I've never seen. I just collect nice looking girls and make them kiss each other.
>>5907350
Yeah, never seen any of the QB series, but I own like 8 or 9 of the figures because they're cute as fuck and the castoff clothes means you can do some funny shit with them.
If you need some recommendations for'em though, any of the Legacy ones are good because they fixed the joints of some of the older ones with the Legacy versions. Cattleya is a complete favorite, and if you can stand (or replace) the older, shittier joints, and are willing to shell out heavily, Melona, Echidna, and Menace are great.

80 USD for SoC GunBuster is a steal. Go watch the show (only 6 OVAs, you can marathon it) and then buy it. Don't let the first episode fool you, it gets really good later on.
most, if not all of my gunpla. I've only seen a select few series.
I've only seen... G Gundam
(sorry they were knocked over, i was reorganizing last night and I just woke up to finish)
In the beginning I would just buy shit I thought looked cool. But now I try to watch/read the IP I buy a figure from. But not always, and rarely all the way through.
I started collecting toys because I was into a lot of things, but now as an adult, I get into a lot of things because I collect toys.
I have a decent bit of Marvel stuff but I don't give two shits about Marvel spare the movies.
>>5907249
I've got two from the back row. Only watched the the Next movie a bit of Fourze.
I watch Kamen Rider and Ultraman, but there's still a few shows I haven't seen yet but own some of the figures to.
Also Figuarts Sharivan because the majority of his show is untranslated but looks cool

SHINE SHINE SHARIVAN SHINE!

My dad doesn't care for weeb shit but he'd love the fuck out of that OP. Shame he became a violent alcoholic and I haven't talked to him in like, eight years or some shit.
I also love Metalder's ED (hurry up with that Figuarts, pls)

Nice blog.

thanks, wanna hear what i had for dinner today?
>>5908764
Nah, just wanted to complement you on such an astounding blog post. No one cares how much semen you ingest at night.
>>5908775
Wow bro, I have that for breakfast you dummy.
>>5907249
I have a Savage Dragon figure that I only bought because he has a few crossover comics with the TMNT (so I display him alongside NECA's Mirage turtles). That's about it. There are Gundam kits I want to buy from series' I haven't seen, but my OCD won't allow me to get them until I've watched the shows.

What kind of disposable income do you have to have in order to spend that much money on a hobby in which you're not even completely familiar with the subject matter? I mean, I think bugmen look neat, too, but I'm not gonna buy 40 of them, each costing roughly $30-$60 each, just "cuz dey look cool". Like, really?
Not even complaining because I'm a poor fag, I just think its a huge waste. Lots of things look cool but aren't practical. Why not invest all that money into something you actually genuinely like and have an interest in, rather than just the visual appeal?
>>5909056
>Why not invest all that money into something you actually genuinely like
Just because you never watched the source material doesn't mean you don't like it.
>>5909056
OP here. That is not my collection. I was just using it as a reference because i didn't have a picture of my own.
However, if I wanted to buy that many because I think they look cool then I fucking would. Most of the other stuff I collect is mainly for the visual appeal any way. That and the quality and articulation. Both of which figuarts excels at.
>>5909063
you're not really liking the source material, though, you're just liking selective elements from the source material such as the character designs. for example, I think certain Michael Bay Transformer designs are cool, but I admit the source material in which they come from is utter shit. But the difference is, Hasbro Bayformer figures were significantly cheaper when they came out as opposed to SH figuarts which aren't even sold in this fucking country and most of what they base their figures off of isn't originated in America either. It just comes off like you're trying to be a special snowflake cuz you're collecting something that's not mainstream here.
>>5909084
>you're not really liking the source material, though, you're just liking selective elements from the source material such as the character designs.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I like Magical Girls so I buy Magical Girl figures. The source material doesn't matter to me. I like how they look. I don't see where you're getting the special snowflake thing from. That sounds like projecting to me.
>>5909084
Someone's mad that they can't afford nice things
>>5909084
I collect dolls that have no source material because I like how they look. It's not a complicated concept.
>>5909084
Ahat about peoople who collect cars? Do hotwheels fans have to know everything about the car to buy it? Or how about figures that have no media backing (or extremely limited) like acid rain? Should no one buy them because there's no show or movie about it? People can and do buy things based on aesthetic values alone, like it has been since the beginning of time. Don't be an idiot, anon.
i just really dig "grunt" mechs
>>5909177
That's cool. What is it?
>>5909192
Savage from Full Metal Panic
>>5909084
projecting much?
>>5909084
So you can't buy things from source material you don't like or know about unless it's cheap.
Anyone want some random Figmas or Figuarts? I need to sell this 'expensive' weeb shit.
I've been buying the RD ANIME figures, despite never having watched the original Gundam anime.
I have the Blu Rays. I'll get to it eventually.
>>5907249
Fateshit.
It all starts with everyone lauding Saber 2.0 Figma as one of the engineering marvel of articulated figure. As she steadily creeps in prices I had to snatch her. Same deal with Figma EMIYA Archer. The only knowledge I had with Saber/Rin is from the porn doujins.
I then tried to read the source material and man it was an embarassing slog. I finished the Fate route, and didn't like the protagonist (Shirou) at all which makes the 18 hours endeavor pretty much unbearable.
I like kit-bashing figures, so the source of the original character most of the time means nothing to me so long as they're a decent base.
