Welcome to the Acid Rain General! Acid Rain is a line of 1:18 scale figures and vehicles set in a reality where the use of nuclear weapons in World War II lead to the irradiation of a large majority of the planet. Nations quickly reformed and now their respective governments fight over the slowly dwindling resources like farmable land and clean water.

Transforming vehicles! Gritty paintwork! Coffee! Everything a growing boy needs!

I was just aboit to post this. Good thing you beat me to it as I didn't have the OP saved.

Got the Agurts Infantry re-stock fr TheToySource. It has better paint apps than the original release.

A little blurry but you can still clearly see the difference between the two. The re-release is on the left.

Awesome man the second run definitely looks way better! I typed up the OP in the first thread back in July, and I've just been too lazy to post because we're usually so slow we get pruned.

They're looking good. I wonder if the Zamaii soldier body will ever see a single carded release?

Sometimes. This board is slow enough it doesn't really matter.

I moved halfway across the country and I can't find any good rocks around his to pictures on it. It's kind of sad. I'll have to scope out the actual national parks and such.
>>
>>5898456
Okay these look rad af. Do any of them have revolvers?
>>
>>5899080
None of the pics indicate they'll include one. Looks like they come with the carbine, ration tins and some weird pistol that looks like something a Joe figure would come with.
>>
>>5899080
Vaguely related. The my favorite Joe-scale revolver inexplicably came with Revoltech Type-J9 Griffon which I only bought for parts for like $3. It's hard plastic with two different coatings and metallic paint.

Everytime I've ever seen discussion happen it usually falls off after four or five posts. Either that, or it gets dismissed as "gummy hipster shit".

They don't want us there and we don't really want to be there either.

>>
>>5899127
>Everytime I've ever seen discussion happen it usually falls off after four or five posts.
Only natural when there are fewer releases than Hasbro's GI Joe line that only has a single wave per year. Just having a General for Acid Rain doesn't fix that either, since the last one died randomly because of lack of interest.
>Either that, or it gets dismissed as "gummy hipster shit".
That actually happens less over in the GI Joe thread. These threads get derailed more.
And discussion is usually better too, since it's not forced like the random bumps for these threads
>>
>>5900087
I won't argue our threads are slow, but I'd rather us be slow in our own place rather than being in the crowded 1:18 thread (it's really just Joes).
>>
>>5900087
>That actually happens less over in the GI Joe thread. These threads get derailed more.
>And discussion is better too

They don't get derailed because there is no ARW discussion there. One random pic amongst endless GI Joe posts does not make a discussion. As someone who collect ARW and not Joes as well that thread is useless to me.

?
You obviously don't go there or just don't care to read if there isn't Acid Rain discussion, but the GI Joe threads have been the place to talk about HACKS, Marauder's figures and accessories, those generic Peace Keeper vehicles and playsets. There's more non-GI Joe talk there than anything else and it's usually really good, with even discussion on customizing stuff like this.

>>5900320
Probably, and it's understandable since most good discussion only happens when something new is released.
>>
>>5900366
You obviously didn't care to read my post, I said that theres no ARW discussion there, not that there's a lack of non-GI Joe related discussion. You're caught up on the "endless GI-Joe discussion" part of the comment, which is just my description of what happens to ARW related posts there, not my summary of the entire thread.
>>
>>5900504
I read your post, but i made a general comment.
There's no one calling the figures there gummy or anything of the sort. GI Joe/1:18 scale threads is one of the better behaved threads on /toy/, so there's discussion on Acid Rain, the skeletons, Rei, HACKS, Beetleborgs, and other lines without anyone trolling them. The only frequent negative comments are about the GI Joe club and someone bitter about not being able to afford poor retools.

The only reason there's been little to no Acid Rain discussion in the GI Joe thread is because it happens here instead.
So the comments about trolling or that it's not wanted there is pretty false and you only have yourself to blame for not discussing stuff there.

But as I said, it shouldn't be surprising that these threads disappear or discussion in GI Joe threads peters out, because the line has almost nothing new for months at a time.

I also want to custom one of these forsetis into an isaac clark from dead space, but its such a nice and somewhat pricy figure to risk ruining it if I screw up the custom

It's in the OP:

http://acidrainworld.blogspot.com/

It hasn't been updated in a while but there's some good stuff there, it's run by the creator, Kit Lau. The wiki (which is also in the OP) is another good source. I can't really fault you for asking the question though, this thread needs as much activity as it can get.

I am completely new to Acid Rain, where can i see a full list of their figures? And where can I buy that ships to Italy (or europe anyway) and has a good selection?

>>5904370
It looks like an extremely basic cloak.

>Make a simple hood like pic related (template for an adult so easy to scale down)
>get a rectangle of cloth the same sort of size as the cloak in the pic, sew each corner of one of the short sides to one of the corners of the hood.
>Now either do many small folds or one/two large folds to get the too of the cloak to fit near the hood
>sew them together.

I know I wasn't particularly clear so please ask if you don't understand something

Pic related is hood depending on the style you want. The top one appears to be what you are looking for.
I will also post another pic with a template for a cloak (and hood) that would wrap around the figure more, unlike the cape-like ones on those figures, if you prefer the look
>>
>>5909895
They actually have a bunch of world war 2 weapons like the mg42 and mp40. I also so a www era motorcycle on there that would fit nicely.

>>
>>5909898
Their MG 34 is nice but the rest isn't anything killer. Dragon's 1:18 kit spoiled me something awful.

I'd kill for them to do proper shotguns.
>>
>>5909897
Same anon
Also is there a cheap, standard, army builder figure?
>>
>>5909906
Yeah but with ARW it doesn't really need to be incredibly detailed, I mean look at the stock weapons, they're as minimalist as possible.
>>
>>5909915

And aside from the original rifle I'm not a fan of any of the ARW weapons. Re-accessorizing these isn't a problem, though.
>>
>>5909911
Not really.
>>
>>5909924
Fair enough.
>>
>>5909911
The closest you'll get is Agurts Infantry. They are the standard "grunt" figure and they come with three different weapons. Not cheap though.
>>
The Marine Infantry (OP pic) are supposedly on the horizon, and they're arguably better than the Agurts Infantry.

Again, not gonna be cheap, but nothing in this line is.
>>
>>5909940
Plus we have the taste of coffee set coming, which will give us two base bodies to work with. It's not known what the price will be yet though.
>>
>>5909940
Don't you think it's a little early to be proclaiming it as superior, before it's even released? It could turn out to be shit for all we know. Let's wait to get our hands on it before we start to make those kinds of declarations.

My own collection is pretty big, probably in the thousands, just counting Joes. It's honestly more than that with other 1:18 figures.

Anyway, water stuff is so limited, not only because you kinda wreck shit using it in actual water, but because most shit is land based.
Having water stuff is so out of place and rare that I don't even bother, and i see that reflected with actual sales (albeit anecdotal) and attitudes on /toys/
>>
>>5911499
>>5911539
There have been so many prototypes made for this line. If it hasn't been shown with actual paint apps, I'd say that it is in limbo.
>>5912369
That's how I feel about winter/snow themed figures. They're a real hard sell for me. Maybe that comes from growing up in a desert. That said, I've got a Forseti on pre-order.

This is going to be a good year for the acid!!

Hell yeah! These look great. Probably get a small squad of them. I hope the machine pistol looks better in person, but everything else is fantastic.

Pretty much, the pouches and helmets are a light shade of grey though. The pouches on Bucks team members are bown and the helmets are black

>>
So I've just learned about these. Is $30-40 a typical price for a single figure? Seems kinda gouged to me.
>>
>>5921582
That's about the cost.
They are pretty expensive, but you're pretty much paying the hipster price for stylized handpainted figures.

Don't like it? Don't buy it.
I buy em because i like em, but can't justify the price to anyone.
>>
>>5921601
It seems steep, but kind of makes sense with handpainting involved. Might pick up a couple if I have some extra cash floating around. I usually don't spend more than $14 on anything this scale but these look like they're worth it.

Are there any issues with articulation?
>>
>>5921604
Some of the joints can be scarily tight before you season them.

Other than the amount of paint apps, the price is also due to rising labor costs and how OriToys is a small company.
>>
>>5921648
makes sense.
>>
>>5921604
I run mine under hot water when I first open them and work the joint. Then they stay a good healthy tight but not dangerous tight. Really well done figures in my opinion. No vehicles yet though but that's next paycheck.

My 2 forsetis and jack should be here tomorrow
>>

Taste of Coffee and Marine Infantry PO's up at BBTS

https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/search.aspx?search=acid%20rain
>>
>>5923894
Not a fan of the mark-up, but I guess it's to be expected.
>>
>>5924271
I agree, but they have the right to set the price to whatever they want and with the way Acid Rain stuff has been selling out I don't blame them. It's not exactly price gouging either, it's $10 bucks over MSRP for ToC and $4 dollars more for Marine Infantry. I can live with that, especially with all the accessories.
>>
>>5924355
I totally understand why (I mean they are like one of two US retailers that carries the line) I just find it kind of odd that they sold the Forsetis at MSRP, but not these.

My complaining aside, I already preordered, haha.

Forsetis (+ Jack) arrived today. I like the heavy winter gear, but it really does restrict posing. I couldn't really get anything dynamic to look quite right so so just tried to imitate the box art lol. Also, they smell strongly of chemical release and cheap plastic, and have a ton of mold flash (a first for an acid rain release that I've bought). I'm wondering if it has do with some new production methods? Anyway, I like them, but probably won't be buying more. /blogpost over

>>5932996
They all are pretty good quality, it all depends on taste on what you should get.

I buy mine at bigbadtoystore but idk how their rates are for international.

As for that set if you like it, you should pre order it, I have a feeling it will sell out fast and you don't want to pay aftermarket prices on them
>>
>>5932996
I'm in the U.S., so I'm not sure about places that ship to Brazil, but I buy online from Big Bad Toy Store. They can be a bit slow in getting pre-orders in, but they are reliable. You can use their Pile-Of-Loot option to group several items together for shipping to reduce the cost.

I don't have any releases that I would say to avoid. They're all pretty good. Honestly, it will be pretty hard to find many older figures like the Sol Commander, Agurts Infantry, and Bob for good prices.

That set you are interested in is called Taste of Coffee. It is scheduled to release in November. It looks great. Has a new version of Bob, new character Damien, plus the cool rubble.

This Marine Infantry figure here >>5915468 should be out in November too. It looks great.

And no, it's not bait. Skeletons are too gummy to be really great, the male body sucks, and the gorgons have such limited use because they're fucking gorgons. The only decent figures they've put out so far are the ones with full female base bodies that don't have the super limiting spartan armor on, and that's what, 4 figures? They have potential and I'm excited for future molds but they need some work, and even then the sculpting, design, and paint isn't on the level of Acid Rain.

Marauders has some cool stuff coming up. Their female Valkyries are shaping up to be pretty awesome. All their stuff is pretty great, but more aimed at customisers of course.

Black Major / Red Laser have some new stuff but only if you're into old o-rings.
>>
>>5937409
Have you checked out Revolmini's? They are around 4 inches and are pretty good quality. Not "handmade" or "indy" though, they're all based on established properties like MGS and Kinnukuman.
>>
>>5937775
You can take any pf the armor off and everything is swappable. I think the sculpts are pretty good. And they are aimed at customizers a lot too. Plus yeah its a gorgon, bit some people think thats fucking cool. Especially when there isnt any good gorgons out there. Everything doesnt have to fit into a "war/gi joe" genre to be cool. And I love the skeletons

mine wasn't gummy, but it was kind of flexible. Lots of detail for the size, but lacking articulation. I can see the paint app criticism, that's why I haven't gotten anything more than blanks and a weapon pack so far.
>>
>>5938009
>>5937939

True, acid rain is gummy, but yet I never have any issues with Acid rain figures holding poses or weapons or anything of the sort. Lots of the joints on Boss Fight guys get pushed around by their armor, so they can hold a pose totally naked but are fucked otherwise. And the skeletons too are pretty cool plain, but start adding weapons or god forbid armor to the mix and things go downhill fast. It's not that they can't be posed with them, it just all feels very precarious, whereas Acid rain i can get stuff to work and stay with what feels like 0 effort.
>>
what does one need to create their own acid rain quality line, Sculpting and seed money?
>>
>>5938138
>True, acid rain is gummy, but yet I never have any issues with Acid rain figures holding poses or weapons or anything of the sort.
I honestly have no problems with gummy plastics, but it seems /toy/ has a lot of anal feels about what plastic should be like and how that relates to their quality (it doesnt).
I actually like rubbery plastic, as its actually more durable than hard plastics and allows you to force poses you normally cant if it were made of hard plastic.
>>
>>5938213
Basically yeah. Although if someone wanted to just paint up custom Joes or Marauders and sell them at ARW prices I'd bite.
>>
>>5937775
Do you own any of the figure at all? Let me guess: no.
Skellies aren't gummy at all, they are very sturdy and poseable. Male bodies are good, actually more than GI Joes ones. Armors don't limits anything at all, those are the only gummy parts in the whole range.
I don't know about snakes cause I don't have any.

So actually your post is bait. 8/10, you made me reply.

Ok to be an impartial in between the two guys who like or dislike the Hacks:

The armour is pretty bad in the sense that you cannot dynamically pose them in the gummy armour and Molded leather and Molded skirts, end of story - you just can't.

The lags are badly made and are very weak so won't hold a pose well, that's a fact too.

Having said that I do enjoy the line - but I had to make a lot of adjustments to the figures to get them to do what I want!

>>
Looking to get into this line I'm just curious if these are honestly worth the $30-40 tag per fig, and do you guys think the taste of coffee set will sell out before launch or if I should just go ahead and preorder? Thanks
>>
>>5946730
One thing you can keep in mind, if you don't find the figures are worth you can definitely resell them for at least what you paid for them. If the taste of coffee set is anything like the last box set (Victory of Samothrace) in terms of production numbers, then yes it will sell out.

"Nuclear Storm - Acid Rain BST" is the facebook bst group for them.
>>
>>5946741
Perfect thanks a lot, buying jack and king now :)
>>
>>5946730
They are by far the most quality 1/18th I've ever come across. It's like if, after 2010-12 when Hasbro was really pushing the envelope with some Star Wars and GI Joe releases, if instead of cutting costs in the face of rising prices said fuck it and doubled down and continued to try and advance 1/18 toys, this is where we would be 4 years later. They are the best on the market and you will see the difference, from packaging to paint to durability, I was in your shoes 2 years ago and absolutely love this line. Worth every penny.
>>
>>5947960
Are you just lying to yourself or are you a vendor who needs to sell his stock?

The price is not justified with these figures.
They're little better than other collector lines like Toy Notch's Lost Planet or those Aliem figures, yet cost a third more
They have a great amount of articulation, but so did Microman figures and those didn't cost an arm and a leg. Microman figures had better articulation too.

One thing that bugs me most about 1:18 collector figures is that they come with so little. It's like one or two guns and that's it. Sure, the armor, jackets, helmet can be seperate pieces, but GI Joes do that too and come with a shit load of accessories.
I think only that Aliens line comes with a satisfying amount of accessories. With MGR's line, you're nickled and dimed to death.

Anyway, the only thing that makes the Acid Rain figures worth it to me just their style and filling in that gap for post apocalyptic figures/mechs. And those mechs are super overpriced as well. They fucking cost more than 3A's robots yet are smaller, come with fewer accessories, and don't have as much articulation.

Yeah but the company is ran by practically two people and didn't start with a Kickstarter and the figures are literally weathered and painted by Kit.

This is where the price is justified, the fact that they are practically hand painted and expertly detailed. And accesories - this is a young business, they are learning from their experience - look at the original Sol Commander, one rifle. Now look at the Taste of Coffee set - it's double the price of a sol commander and comes with a metric shit ton.

No one is forcing anyone to buy, it always comes down to your personal financial situation and your willingness to buy.
>>
And quality wise - GI Joe, Marauders and Bossfight barely scratch the surface compared to acid rain, especially the new body types. You are getting near enough 1/12 articulation at 4"

Yeah, being made by two people is the reason the toys cost so much, but you're not getting your money's worth.

Also, i preferred their original diorama set more. Much cooler than the newer set and worth the price, considering how much diopieces cost.
>>
>>5948241
quality ≠ feature

You get a pretty goofy scarecrow aesthetics by making them as poseable as they are and I'm not actually a fan of that. So you can guess which beefy guys I've been buying that'll fit in with the rest of my 1:18 figures.
>>
>>5948460
you should also consider stylization when it comes to aesthetic. I mean shit, 3A practically runs on that alone.
>>
>>5948609
yeah, but i don't buy their humans. Just their robots.
>>
>>5948246
Im so sad I never got one of these.

Im not sure what you are asking, but that diorama is from them. It already exsists but the aftermarket prices are really high

>>5958585
See this is one thing I will never understand, why cut out a portion of your market with exclusives?
>>
>>5958896
You're not really cutting your market though, because you're still making the same toys, the exclusives are just extra things for fun.
Do you hate fun?
I hope you're not some type of shitty completist.
>>
>>5958896 #
It does suck for those who can't find one but if you do manage to get one it feels really cool to have something limited like that. It adds a little bit of excitement to collecting the line IMO. Of course this is coming from someone who managed to get one, I'm sure I'd feel much different if I hadn't been able to.
>>
>>5958918
No no I understand it, it's just I while it's look and wish i could get it but if it's an exclusive then it's nearly impossible for me to get. Ya feel me bruh?
>>
>>5960789
so it has nothing to do with the market and more about your feels for being excluded?
Tough shit.

Did you know that they also produce more than just the limited quantities that they say that they release? So something that they say that got only 800 units likely got 1000, and a lot of times those are given away for free or kept by the workers, who then re-sell them on ebay.
How does it feel knowing you got lied to and your limited editions aren't so limited after all?

Personally, i don't give a shit, since most exclusives aren't things i want or get re-released later on, just like the AMM.
I don't even like the normal release of the AMM, but i know we'll get a redeco of him later on, so whatever.
>>
>>5960832
Okay tough guy, I'm new here so pardon my ignorance. It's nice to know that you think the AMM will be released later as a non-exclusive

I'm talking about a redeco of the same figure, not the same redeco being re-released.

There's no market being split up this way.

Don't be some shitty completists who thinks all redecos are necessary.
>>
>>5960943
Listen, you are completely misunderstanding me here. The only acid rain figure that really catches my eye so far (again, as I am new) is the AMM figure. Really I like the helmet though.

So, to me, that model being an exclusive is splitting the market as I cannot get it reasonably. But, and I am not trying to be shitty here, I am very happy that you, someone who presumably has more experience with acid rain, believes that the model will be re released as a non exclusive.

Relax Bruh I just want the figure.
>>
>>5961010
He's being unnecessarily aggressive. We'll likely see the Viking armor used in more figures, probably even with that helmet. Although most likely in a different deco. I wish I'd gotten an AMM, but I'm not sweating it. The upcoming Omangans are what have really caught my eye.

They're apparently making a male snake-guy for the upcoming fantasy line. He's supposed to have one more joint in that long "leg" part, which should look nicer. Anyway, I plan to make a modern Golobulus if that ever happens. I'll probably pick up some of the other guys from the boss fight line to fill out the Cobra La ranks then too.
>>
>>5966169
oh shit. I know those dudes are pretty modular, so I imagine you could just grab some bald Spartan head, a Spartan body, the snake lower body, and then make his weird eyepiece and armor out of something else. That sounds awesome.
