Am I the only one who feels awkward going into stores to buy figures? Like I just feel ashamed doing it? How do I stop feeling like this without quitting my hobby?
>>
>>5895702

I don't really have problems with it.

Only thing that's starting to make me feel a little weird is when the workers at TRU start recognizing you...

i used to, back when i first started. eventually realized the people who worked there have better things to deal with than whether or not they care that i'm an adult who collects toys. same with the people shopping there.
>>
>>5895702
Why is this a thread like every single week? If you're ashamed of your hobby, then don't do it. You're ashamed to walk into a store, where you don't know anyone and buy something? What do you do with your toys when people come over? I don't get it. If you embrace your hobbies and the things you like instead of shirking away from them, your life will get way better. You should never be embarrassed of ashamed of who you are or what you like.
>>
Im ashamed to buy porn too. yknow what i do? I hang around the family video section til the female clerk switches with a male, or is pre-occupied with a customer while the male is free.

in the event that it is my turn and i just happen to get the female anyway, i tell the guy behind me to go ahead. sometimes i walk away pretending i "changed my mind".

works every time, hope you have nothing planned later.
>>
>>5895702

Who gives a shit what other people think, you aren't there for them. Just look around and buy what you came there for. What is the worst that can happen?

We have one of these threads like every fucking day at this point. Just stop giving a fuck what people think. The cashiers that work at toy stores don't give shit about you they just want you out of the store as efficiently and quickly as possible.

Op here: I've actually done that before. I've also ran out of the store after giving them the money leaving my toy because i got so nervous.

I'm going to Barnes&Noble today to use my 40% off coupon. Probably gonna get an S.H. Figuarts Chibi Moon unless I change my mind. I used to hate buying anime figures at stores that aren't specifically for anime shit. But after buying lesbian books along with some manga at B&N, I realized the workers just don't give a shit and you shouldn't either.

Why do you get so nervous just for buying toys? Are you an insecure teenager or something? The cashiers don't even know if the toy is for you or just a present, in fact, most probably they don't care a little bit either way. And even if they do, what's the problem?

If you're so scared about random people judging you, you should know that getting so nervous over fucking nothing would make you seem more retarded than just buying toys on a toy store.

Also yeah workers probably see way more fucked up shit than my fat hairy neckbeard self. You have to try really fucking hard to be memorable.

It's not like you're walking into a store and asking where they keep the kiddie porn or something, jesus.

This.

Though i buy figures online, sometimes I'll buy a girly nendo at a store. They have better things to do than dwell on me buying a little doll.

They really don't give a shit.
>>
>>5896111
Last time I bought a figure from a place they laughed me out of the store on my next visit. It fucking crushed my self esteem
>>
>>5896113
Then don't go to that store. if they're going to be cunts, don't give them any money.

You're probably better off buying online anyway. That way you don't have to move to get your stuff.
>>
>>5896113

So this is a "Things That Never Happened" thread now? Cool.

I had sex, and someone said they love me.
>>
Order your shit online or hopefully you have a cool collectable toy shop you can buy stuff from. Toys r us is a place I've always loved as a kid. I have younger nieces and nephews I buy stuff there for. So i don't feel like such a tard. Yes it does feel a little weird when you get older and pass the age of the sales staff and management and all customers are under 12 with parents accompanying them. But as long as you are not there to fuck said customers who gives a shit. You have a silly hobby that should bring you happiness. you use to fucking pray for your parents to take you to a toy store. Now you can literally go anytime and you are afraid. Be a man and go to the little kid toy section!
>>
>>5896111

I'm on their mailing list. They spam sometimes but they also send out some damn good coupons sometimes. The coupon ends today which is why I went.

That happened to me once while I was buying gunpla from one of those Chinese makeup stores with gunpla in the back. Me and my cousin were talking in english so the cashiers thought we were banana-asians, so they started talking shit. Cousin knows more chinese than me so he called them out and we ended up going somewhere else.
>>
>>5896287
Just went. Got a MM Link nendo instead for 25 bucks because their Chibi Moon looked like she had dirt on her face.
>>
>>5895714
Dude, as a female that has worked at a family video store that rents porn, I can guarantee no one gives a fuck. Usually those were my favorite customers to talk to, they were pretty chill.

>>5895756
Dude, for any reason if someone asks or gives you weird looks about buying toys, just say it's for your sibling/cousin/child/ect. My parents were divorced, and dad used to bring me a new Power Rangers figure every week, so there's an 'excuse' if needed. Don't let anyone, including yourself, stop you from your hobbies.

I once got laughed at when my parents bought me one of those big combining Brave series mechs in Korea when I was 12 or 13, not even particularly old.

It went something like
>is this for you
>yes
>laughter along with exchanging glances from the two guys manning the checkout desk

I had a similar experience with a random granny at a VHS store telling me GaoGaiGar is for kids, again 12 or 13 at the time.

My advice, don't deal with Asian Asians, they're shit. Not just fobs, I mean kids who were raised almost exclusively in that culture as well. I knew a few Koreans like that who were born and raised in Canada, they were shit and seemed like they enjoyed spending a lot of their time shit-talking white people for something or another, especially their "friends" behind their backs. Lived in four different states and the only time I met Asian Asians who were actually nice, likable people was in Virginia of all places. California, NJ, NY, all shit. I'd say the Chinese ones were better but that's only because I couldn't understand what they were saying when they spoke in Chinese. Still, most of the ones I knew were flaky and too cliquish even when everyone tried to accommodate them. My family also had some for homestay when I was younger and they left actual shit smears on the seats so maybe I have particular prejudices against them. Only knew one Japanese kid who might've been autistic, he was strange in a hyperactive way but nice.
>>
>>5896465
>Dude, for any reason if someone asks or gives you weird looks about buying toys, just say it's for your sibling/cousin/child/ect.

No. There's no need to give any bullshit explanations to a complete stranger.

I'm in the store to buy a product and they're there to sell them. In the rare chance that they ask about it I'm going to tell the thruth. If they understand my hobby that's good, if they don't I couldn't care less. There's nothing else about it.
>>
>>5896603
>I had a similar experience with a random granny at a VHS store telling me GaoGaiGar is for kids, again 12 or 13 at the time.

That granny was obviously a Zonder.

>don't deal with Koreans
Fixed that for you famalam

Koreans are the cancerous lump of asia.
>>
>>5895702
I do, but only because I'm a stereotype. Fat, bearded, wearing cargo shorts, flip-flops and a graphic tee, and buying toys. Luckily I don't have to do it often because I rarely buy domestic stuff, but it's still pretty shameful.
>>
>>5895702

1). Stop being a faggot
2). Stop being a whiny fucking faggot
3). go into the store and buy your Hasbro stuff already goddamnit you faggot. Nobody gives a shit unless you make a spectacle of yourself by being awkward over it.
>>
>>5896603
gook-anon here. There are certain types of Koreans (see patriotic nationalists) have this retarded habit of ditching shit that is barely a year or so old in chase of newer things to be "cool". It's really fucking annoying how hooked they can be on fads.
>>
>>5895702
Really, you just need to stop worrying, sure there have been cases of grown men implicated of been pedophiles (think some dad was taking a selifie of some shit of star wars stuff and some soccer mom took a pic of him and it basically ruined his life even once the truth was wide spread) but there isn't any need to worry, here are some simple tips.

>Take off any dark sunglasses when in toy aisles if you're above the age of 15
>don't wear trench coats
>take off any fedoras
>only speak when spoken too unless asking an employee a question
>when speaking to employee's consider them human and make questions general, not along the lines of "HAY DO YOU HAVE CODE 40441 OF THE MLP LINE YET IT WAS DUE 2 HOURS AGO"

I'm being serious too, don't look like a stereotype/autist, you can act it only when invited to.

I collect hotwheels and I've become a regular since I specifically collect treasure hunts/super treasure hunts, I chatted up to some girls who were facing up the pegs that I was looking at (they were doing it by color/car the poor things) and by the end of it we both learnt things (ebay sellers come in with trolleys during sales and they learnt which cars have any value) and now I'm given a friendly hello and even a stock update during visits, I also collect tf's and I keep my time in the aisles short and sweet since kids are present most times (even at 9pm), I even do a small face up of what I'm looking at (for my own sense of satisfaction really) rather than trash the section so I'm respectful to other collectors, otherwise just don't be a klutz and throw shit all over the joint.

>TLDR don't be a man child, be a responsible adult

One bad example I can give that did happen
>literally wearing a fedora
>saw as I was looking at star wars black series for 5 seconds
>"hay good figures hay?"
>starts talking about release dates and shit
>Ididntaskforthis.jpg
>he only shut up when I mentioned "I'm only comparing this darth vader to my s.h figurarts"
>>
I honestly haven't bought a toy in a store since I was 11 or 12
I do feel a little awkward buying Pokemon cards in public though.
I usually spend $80-$100 in a single trip when I go, and I can always tell the cashier is a little weirded out.

Just have confidence. You're buying toys regardless so the only thing that can make you look worse is looking like you're all nervous and ashamed of it. Just walk confidently, put your item on the counter, speak clearly, and pay. Who knows, maybe you'll come across that random cashier that also happens to be into the hobby, or is at least fun enough to be curious about it.
