Thoughts on the last dozen BAFs?
Odin, Hobgoblin, Hulkbuster, Absorbing Man, Red Onslaught
>glad to get them
Thanos, Ultron, Rhino, Abomination, Juggernaut
>prefer the Marvel Select versions
Giant Man
>too small (hopefully gets a 12" Legends)
Space Venom
>undecided
Dormammu
>looking forward to him (missed out on boxset)
My wallet is happy that I skipped half the BAFs

I only have Spaceknight, Rhino, and Hobgoblin.
Spaceknight and Rhino are great, Hobgoblin looks fine, his articulation is awful.

Some other ones I wouldn't mind having are Hulkbuster, Giant Man, and Thanos, but I don't care about them or the figures they come with enough to get them.

I also kind of want Dormammu, purely for Superior Foes jokes, but he's not worth that price for a few funny photos.
>>
>>5895561
I haven't completed any BAFs so far.

I might complete Dormammu, I want him for when the rest of the Superior Foes are released.

>Great tier
Groot, rhino. Groot could have used a neck hinge and non-gummy arms, but he's pretty much perfect aside from that. Rhino might not be my favorite legends figure overall, but he's damned close.

>Pretty good tier
Hulkbuster juggernaut, and onslaught. HB and onslaught are alright, they just needed more paint. I don't regret either of them but they could have been top tier easily. I can't pin down what I don't like about Juggernaut, but he's just on the edge. Maybe if his ankles were a little better.

>Meh tier
Ultimate green goblin, hobgoblin, thanos. Thanos should have been way better, his articulation is the only downside and it's terrible. I still don't know how they fucked it up that bad.

As for stuff I haven't finished, I wish giant man were bigger and didn't have that derpy looking head. I've got half of his pieces but he still doesn't feel worth it to complete. Dormammu looks nice, but I'll probably have to buy a completed one off ebay because the rest of his wave is meh.
>>
>>5895531
Anya has become a grail for me, even though I don't even care about the character that much. Its just that I have all the others but could never find her in the stores. All I ever see on ebay are ones with jacked up paint.

AND NOW EVEN MORE SPIDERS FOR THE SPIDER-GOD
>>
>>5895656
It's so weird, she shelfwarmed at the targets nearby me for so long. Until maybe the hulkbuster wave came out, the pegs were full of her, ultimate beetles, and winter soldiers. I think the paint thing is pretty much universal though, I had a ton to pick through when they finally went on clearance, and the one I got still had a jacked up mask.
>>
>>5895656

Anya was the only one I bought, back when I was getting 6" spiders.

I prefer the 4" figures now, I'd trade my Anya for a good MU figure or 3 in a heartbeat.

I like to think so. I used to buy a ton of Bionicle, but since that ended and the reboot wasn't all that great, I can focus on Marvel legends (Still only the characters I want though)

Do you own Ultimate Spider-Man?
>>
>>5895751
I do now. Both of them.
>>5895671
>>
>>5895531
Did they improve the articulation on the Space Venom wave? That mold is frustrating to me since it has potential but is so limited compared to Spider-Man.
>>
>>5895754
Would you consider buying a second Ben Reilly Spiderman to have both display options at once?
>>
>>5895740

how is the articulation on the new ult? can we get some poses
>>
>>5895767
Nah. The Silk and Spider-bitch articulation is alright, but Gwen's is still garbage, especially around the chest area. Can barely move forward or back at all.
>>5895769
Nope. I like Symbiotes more anyway, and I honestly prefer the hoodie version of Ben anyway.
The only reason I even bought Ultimate Peter was because he's an alternate universe version, and if I wanted the rest of the wave and the BAF, I might as well get him.

Pop Gwen's chest off of her abdomen then either dremel away some of the plastic surrounding the peg's socket or just whittle it away with an X-acto blade. I got an extra 1mm around the circumference of one of those bodies once, and that was plenty. Not nearly as good as something like the curvy body used on Rogue, but still good.

It'll always be hilarious how hasbro could literally do a solid year's worth 100% spider-people waves.

>>5895793
How hard was it to pop that joint off? And how cheap is too cheap for a dremel if I were looking to buy one? Amazon has one for like 13 bucks, is that gonna be too shitty if all I'd use it for is on toys?
>>
>>5895797
>calf swivels
Oh, so Hasbro took their heads out of their asses and realized how shitty ankle rockers are without something as rudimentary as a fucking swivel above it. Glad it only took them until -after- they released what should have been the definitive Spider-Man to realize it.
>>
>>5895797

Looks nice, anon.

I myself wanted an Ult. because I wanted a teenage Peter Parker, Infinite Series Spider-Man was too tall for my liking.
>>
>>5895793
While I'd like to, I'm way too worried about permanently screwing her up somehow. She was super hard to get for retail price for me, so I'd rather not risk it. I'm even too worried to repaint things like Big Time spider-man even though I really should.
>>
Have the Space Venom or Abomination waves been sighted at mass retail yet? I think I've heard about Space Venom dripping out, but nothing from the Abomination wave just yet.

>>
i got the legends venom just for the hell of it. the second head was a bitch to get on
>>
>>5895806
It comes right out with a little heat. The problem is carving it out. $13 for a dremel is probably okay--I had a bunch of different cutting tools for mine, but I was way to sloppy on another figure, so just worked at it with a fresh X-acto. Make a bunch of shallow passes with the blade and you're good to go only a few minutes later. Popping it back together is just as easy with heat.

I actually just pulled apart the orange/blue Iron Man that came in the Civil War 2-pack with War Machine Mk III to do the same thing with its torso restrictions. If you've noticed, that mold had trouble bending forward. I got it apart easily, and shaved down the excess plastic (it actually does have excess plastic around in inside of the abdomen), but getting it back together is incredibly challenging. Maybe once I strip the orange paint something will loosen and make it easier to get together.
>>
>>5895934
Cool, ordered it. Hopefully the same trick works on rogue and silk as well.
>>
>>5895970
Rogue should have good range out of the box, as with any character on that body. I wish you luck with Silk. The same trick should work, but that Wasp/Hellcat body is a little tougher to get apart and together than the teen body. If just say to avoid messing with Silk's torso and focus on shaving some plastic off the inside of her elbows.

Something feels off with him. I dont know if I like him enough to keep him or not

>Giant Man
Id be more happy with it if they made a 4inch movie line, but he's too damn small, but I love giantman. If the 2 inch figures ever clearance out enough that'll be fun.

>Hulkbuster
Affordable, bulky, a bit too bright, but it's a fun figure.Scales with Hulk, not much more I could ask for from a BAF

I don't think it looks bad. About what I expected from Shocker in film to be honest. Looks similar to Crossbones too so I'm not sure what everybody's so shocked about.

That being said if we get movie Shocker before we get a comics Shocker I will be...unsure of how to feel. We never get MCU villains so it'd be a surprise to get one buuuuut I'd like a comic Shocker to go with the Superior Foes. If we're getting a villain from this movie it's probably going to be Vulture since he appears to have the main villain role. I mean why on Earth would we get movie Shocker that would cost a lot of tooling when we never get MCU villains, let alone a secondary one?

I know its a long shot, but I think it would be really neat to have a Cloak and Dagger Legends figures.
I'm not sure how they would do Cloak's cloak though. I figure Hasbro is too cheap to make it posable, so they would probably do it like Vader's cape.. He doesn't even need any acessories or anything. Just give him the Vision-esque body type and paint it solid black.

Dagger should come with her signature light arcs that can just plug into her open hands inbetween the thumb and forefingers, and the daggers of light could just clip on to the arc. Give her the spider-girl mold.

NOPE.
Looks like 20 year olds to me, but they're supposed to be that age anyway. They've been around too long.
Ironically, the Runaways actually do look like teenagers.

Also, you need to find better comics if you think comic artists can't draw teenagers. Lots of them can and do.
Pretty much every artist that gets put on the Robin series draws teenagers well. Pretty much any comic starring kids/teens draws them as they should.

So with the Ultimate Spider-Man figure having dropped, I had the very stupid idea of tracking down some of the older Ultimate Marvel releases. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of all the Ultimate Marvel characters released through the Marvel Legends line? Specifically Ultimate Spider-Man. The ones I already know of are:

Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Space Venom wave)
Spider-Man/Miles Morales (Space Venom wave)
Spider-Woman/Jessica Drew (Hobgoblin wave)
Green Goblin BAF
Beetle (Ultimate Green Goblin wave)

I may prefer other companies because of the articulation and accessories (I.e. hands) but hasbro legends are slightly getting better.
At the very least they have multiple hands now, and they also do characters that won't get figures by other companies any time soon or at all.
I'm thinking about getting Morales.

I can't really say, most marvel toys I've ever owned have been hot toys. I just wanted a really articulated ant man to play with, and it's my first figuarts as well.

The only thing I don't like is the lack of accessories. Another set of hands why the button pressing, one with a little Rhodey in it. Though he didn't have many props in the movie.
>>
>>5897501
The jacket isn't supposed to come off man. They're not gonna sculpt a proportional/full-size torso inside when a thick jacket sculpt is gonna lay overtop it. It would just look way too bulky.

Lack of accessories is what made me cancel my preorder for him. The Rhodey hand idea is super neat. They also could've included the shrinking/growing disks, an unmasked head, and a partially open helmet.

I actually think it's not that much of a longshot considering both are in the Spidey cartoon and Hasbro has been pumping out figures from that cartoon in the Spidey waves.

Dagger is yet another easy reuse of the female teen buck. Dagger could be the BAF for that particular wave.
>>

oh shit, thanks. Im at kind of a problem though.

I really like good articulation, and I also happen to really like the Legends Venom. Legends Anti Venom looks like shit but select has fuck for articulation.

I have both. If you want something perfectly in scale with your legends venom get legends anti venom so he'll be the same size. If you want some impressive sculpting and don't mind a taller anti venom, get the select.

Honestly I'd recommend the legends just for the fact that he fits with venom perfectly. Probably cheaper, too.

Hulkbuster, Red Onslaught and Giant Man feel like they were the only one's that had any real thought put into them.

Juggernaut, Abomination, Hobgoblin, Absorbing Man and Rhino are ok but none of them feel like they are a baf since we get huge figures like Hulk packaged single

Odin and Dormammu have next to any poseability, the fuckers can't even sit right
Thanos is also limited but not as extreme
Space Venom is like Thanos but it's due to poor engineering rather than bits getting in the way.

I like the gesture of bafs but very few feel worth it

I somewhat agree but I feel like Giant Man suffers from some weird fat belly syndrome from certain angles.

Onslaught to me feels great and I really love Rhino for some weird reason. Probably because you have two options and the articulation on it is flawless.
>>
>>5898310
>but none of them feel like they are a baf since we get huge figures like Hulk packaged single

I can't help but feel like this is cherrypicking a little. Hulk was from way back during the first avengers movie, and I can't think of another single carded figure we've gotten since who was close to that size. Hobgoblin felt like a ripoff yeah, but rhino's beefy as hell and juggernaut is second only to hulkbuster.

>Odin and Dormammu have next to any poseability, the fuckers can't even sit right
That's actually really disappointing to hear about dormammu, I was looking forward to picking one up. What in particular is limited, the legs?
>>
>>5898054
Lets be honest, just look at her design. It doesn't matter if her comics are good or not, she's total bait for waifufags. She'll be hardest one to find from this wave. Neckbeards can't resist a cute goth girl.
>>
>>5898310
I dunno, I was actually super disappointed with Giant-Man. He's not big enough to even feel worth it. I'd rather just wait and hope they do Ant-Man in their 12" line.

I'm mixed about Hulkbuster. The figure itself is cool and I love the weight and articulation of it, but the paintjob is just so simple it seems cheap. I ended up just giving in and preordering the Mafex Hulkbuster.

Red Onslaught is tops and I'm liking the look of Dormammu so I hope he's not as disappointing as you make him sound. Abomination, Thanos, Rhino, and Juggernaut just feel entirely pointless due to the MS being so much better, but I do like Rhino's goofy charging face. Was expecially disappointed in Thanos since I like that look for him, but he turned out smaller than expected and his final paintjob was much worse than when they initially revealed him.

I like a lot of Hasbro's individual figures better than toybiz, but goddamn I miss the toybiz BAFs
>>
>>5898435
>I ended up just giving in and preordering the Mafex Hulkbuster.

I hope that figure is better than literally any other figure Mafex has put out. Because, man. Mafex figures are not good.
>>
>>5898442
I like their Batfleck and Ledger Joker, but yeah, it definitely feels like a gamble for a figure that expensive. But I wanted an MCU Hulkbuster that was better than ML but not as expensive as Bandai's.
>>
>>5898435
>>5898442
I really don't wanna start a company war trollfest this early in the thread, but man, you might want to rethink that. I was really tempted too but trusting mafex QC on something that expensive is asking for heartbreak.
>>
>>5898460
No worries mate. Like I said in the above posts, I know it's a bit of a gamble but I'm hoping for the best. Either way, I did it through amiami so it's too late to change my mind without making them mad. Don't have a decent camera, but I'll make sure to report back on how it turns out when I get it.
>>
>>5898460

Really, I'm not a person who tries start company wars. I think every company/line/whatever can have some merit, whether its price point, or features, or articulation, and I think it is kind of dumb to try to compare figures at totally different price points and whatnot.

I actually wanted to get the Mafex Hulkbuster too, but I just can't bring myself to do it after all the horror stories. The only Mafex I have is the Mk. 43, and while nothing flat out broke or anything like some people have had problems with, he does have pretty floppy leg and torso joints, some questionable paint apps and stuff. It was almost 6500 Yen for that figure, and I feel like the Figuarts figure is superior and it was 4500 Yen. Similarly, the Mafex Mk 45 is 7500 and I considered getting it, but I already have the Figuarts which I also got for about 4500.

I just don't see the point risking that much money on figures that are pretty questionable, and even when you get a "good example" of the figure is on-par with figures that are $20-$30 cheaper.

The Hulkbuster is a little different, though, because the Figuarts is kind of a collab with the Chogokin line, and has some die-cast and lights and stuff in it. I kind of wanted that one as well, but spending that much a figure in this scale is kinda eh. And I don't really care much for putting a ton of die-cast and lights and gimmicks and shit into a figure just to inflate prices anyway.

Last thread, myself and another anon had complaints about MCU Falcon's bland colors, and expressed interest in panel lining. I tested out a brown 005 Micron on Cable's torso, and a black Micron on his belt just to see how it'd look. In person it actually looks alright, and the brown matches the color of his tattoo and scar. It just doesn't stick as well as I'd hoped. I need to track down some Pledge/Future and try the acrylic panel line method in the Gunpla guide to see if that sticks any better. If it does, I'll wind up lining Falcon, Cable, maybe some parts of Taskmaster, and Deadpool's belts.

Thanks, anon. It's cozy for sure. Feel free to come over once the weather gets cold for beers and comics by the fire pit.

So I opened up Deadpool and I'm happy I finally got one, and even happier I didn't pay above retail.
While the figure itself is nice with no crazy quality control issues, the weapons are a total letdown.

>>
>>5902772

Protip, you probably don't want to actually put them in the sheaths. They don't match the curve of the sword, and they're also curved laterally so they'll warp the swords that way too.
>>
>>5902776
Yeah, I noticed that when I first tried putting them in. The strange thing is that putting them in the scabbards for a bit straightened them out a bit since they were so bad, but I won't be keeping them in anymore. They were a mess when I took them out of the package.

>>

>>
>>5902883
Nah. I considered picking it up, but while the movie suit is one of the best spider suits we've gotten in live action yet, it doesn't translate that well to the figure. I dislike the symbol, and the indented webbing pattern, and I started collecting when the pizza Spidey was announced so I just waited until that came out instead.
Except for the symbiotes, I don't really like having more than 1 figure of a character that's almost in an identical costume.
>>
>>5902949
I think he means the Civil War Spidey figure.

Which is shit and not even accurate to the final design because Hasbro apparently starts designing their figures in the concept art stage despite not releasing them for months after the movie's out.
>>
>>5902949
Oh wait, you're talking about the civil war Spidey.

No, I don't have that one either. It'd be cool to have, but I doubt I'm gonna get it since I have no interest in having the other two battle damaged characters. And I doubt I'm gonna find him for less than $30 Canadian.
>>
>>5902953
It's based on early costume for civil war
>>
>>5900234
It's so depressing how so very close to perfect the 3.75 scale is right now. Just a tiny bit more articulation. If they were as articulated as before with the sculpting and paint apps they are doing now, they'd be worth the 12.99 MSRP IMO. Well, maybe, that's still pretty damn expensive.
>>
>>5902953
>Hasbro apparently starts designing their figures in the concept art stage despite not releasing them for months after the movie's out.

Hasbro is pretty shitty, but come the fuck on. Stuff like that isn't even their fault. This is something that happens with pretty much ALL toy companies. They start designing shit months, if not a year or two in advance.

Think about it. If they were given designs for the movie look a year in advance, and did all the planning and prototypes and all that, and went into full production and started stockpiling finished product, and then oops. Halfway through the production run Disney/Marvel tweaks some of the design here, and some of the details there, so now you have a different look, but stockpiles of product that's done so its too late to change anything.

My guess is that it was likely Disney being a shit, because apparently there was a huge fiasco with Star Wars: TFA merchandise not being accurate to the final looks too.
>>
>>5903023
Glad they changed it, that outfit looks like total garbage.
>>
>>5903090
Well it doesn't help that all in all Spidey stuff was pretty last minute.
>>
Does anyone else have problems getting figures to stand? I'm new to the hobby, but my Phoenix and Rogue keep toppling over. I googled but haven't seen much advice except to poster tack them to a surface.
>>
>>5903168
If you really want to keep them secure, you could buy stands. Tamashii nations sells stands that have a jointed arm and claw grip to keep your figures upright, or in aerial poses. A few other companies make them too, but I think Tamashii nations is the best bet since you get three of them for like 17 dollars.
>>
Went to walmart to see if Dr Strange wave was out... found nothing. When do they hit stores?
>>
>>5903177
I got some of those myself. The claw thing doesn't hold any figure bigger than buckycap
>>
>>5903182
My walmart is still two or three waves behind, so I'm going to say 2017 for them to hit the shelves. Amazon has their release date as October 1st, so that's probably a better answer.
>>
Is there any Marvel Legends figure or any other possible figure that could act as a full unmasked Peter Parker head and fit on the figure? Not the Andrew Garfield head either.
>>
>>5902953

>Hasbro apparently starts designing their figures in the concept art stage despite not releasing them for months after the movie's out.

That's common practice. It takes at least 8 to 9 months minimum to get a figure sculpted, tooled, produced, and released. Movies can be edited and CGI changed all the way up to a few weeks before a film is released. If Marvel Studios makes a change it's not Hasbro's fault.

Neca's Hellboy 2 Wink figure was released with a head that wasn't screen accurate. The design of the character's head was changed while the editing was being done. del Toro didn't like the original design once he saw it on film so it was changed. To Neca's credit, they offered a corrected head to anyone who sent it a POP. I believe all you had to pay was the shipping cost.

The Spidey 3 pack wasn't released when Civil War first hit due to a request by Disney. Even though Spider-Man was in the trailer, Disney wanted to keep his exposure to a minimum before the film was released. It's why a lot of the general merchandise released before the film was out also doesn't have S-M. My nephew bought a lunchbox and it has everyone from both teams except S-M. I know it doesn't make much sense but it's what Disney wanted.
>>
>>5903396

Part of that is also because of the conditions of the agreement with Sony, too.
>>
>>5902953
>Hasbro apparently starts designing their figures in the concept art stage despite not releasing them for months after the movie's out.

Most companies do this though, this has happened quite a lot.

Just look at the figuarts mk46 which is amazingly accurate to the concept art but not to what was showed in the movie. That was kinda a good thing though as I prefer it to the movie version.

It also happened to kylo ren's ship, the original concept didn't have the wing go down horizontal so the lego and the models had them straight up.

>>5904138The teethbelt is just a nice visual thing. I can't remember when that started in the comics, but some artists have done it, and it gives it a look a little like he's got some clips or knife armor there.

Speaking of Fury, isn't it a pleasant surprise when you vacation in a small town and stop at Walmart to get supplies? This mood Mus be degrading or I got a figure that should have failed QC though. Anyone have a problem with Fury's shin not lining up with the rest of his leg? Before anyone asks, yes, it is the right leg and the right shin. They should match.
The grunt head is pretty nice. Might have to throw that on my Kanan Jarrus and see if it looks worth a reprint.
>>
>>5904678
One let thing: as I was snapping Dirk Anger's head on, I realized that Hasbro already have most of the parts to make Boom Boom and Lightwave from NextWave:
Boom Boom: Jubilee body with new books from the shin down, new skirt piece, and new head
Lightwave: Slender woman body (Hellcat, Storm), Misty Knight head or new mold, MCU Scarlet Witch arms and coat

They'd probably get away with throwing The Captain on that shitty old Punisher/MCU Fury/Red Skull body with a new head. And maybe they could toss in a coat and spare head for Aaron.
