>>5880091
It's the Cross Dimension one
>>5880087
Holy shit that looks fucking great.
I wonder if the chinamen will make an oversize KO of Iron Factory NotOverlord
I would buy that in a heartbeat.
>>5880095
you serious?
Doesn't look like a Transformer at all.
>>5880101
probably why he likes it.
>>5880102
Strange. I thought people wanted them to look like more detailed versions of the animation models.
>>5880101
Considering how many different aesthetic styles there have been in the Transformers brand, the "it doesn't look like a Transformer" argument is complete bollocks. Transformers don't really have a solid, unbreakable aesthetic to them- they've looked like everything from box men to stylized cartoon characters to metal-fleshed organisms to realistic machine monsters. Transformers can look like whatever the fuck they want.
Yeah I'm glad I went with DX9. He works as a IDW/Devestation megs but not as a G1 MP megs.
>>5880107
>That face
TFC getting classy with their packaging.
>>5880112
"""shark"""
>>5880112
I really want to like this set but all the images of Snaptrap/Turtler disappoint me with their colorscheme, transparent back cannons and flat combiner head
The other limb bots so far are gold
>>5880106
This.
>>5880101
Of course it doesn't. It's the "Cybertronian" excuse all over again.
>>5880104
At this point it's been nearly 30 years since the G1 cartoon ended in the west. While a lot of 3P buyers are probably older TF collectors, there's still plenty of people younger than that that aren't necessarily tied down to the Sunbow stuff. And even then, their was stuff like the Studio Ox designs, which the MakeToys stuff is paying homage to.
Plus the fact that things like Beast Wars or Pretenders existed at all and looked far more different aesthetically than anything a 3P has ever done throws a bigger monkey wrench into the whole "Doesn't look like a transformer" thing.
>>5880108
Oh look.
>>5880115
He's modeled after the original Overbite.
>>5880223
Shit, that looks cool. Tank robot that mimcs organic structures when?
>>5880227
>robot that mimcs organic structures when?
I've been waiting for a Beast Wars renaissance for a while now...
>>5880166
> Race of alien robots
> Complains that they look like alien robots
>>5880279
Because they are """alien""" """robots""". Designwise, culturally, and all levels but physical they are big metal humans
>>5880090
The decepticon hand me down relic should be a large canon or side arm. That's the only way BW Megs or any of the loosely named spun off Galvatrons make any sense.
>>5880288
So you want them to look more like humans?
>>5880279
If anything Transformers are the most distinctive robot designs in existence because nearly all of those distinctions were born out of oft-repeated 'solutions' to the toys' transformation schemes.
>>5880279
Shits like you are why Bay gets away with his terrible ideas movie after movie.
>>5880342
The designs from the Bay movies where hardly the most strange and different TF we had seen, even in 2007. The Vehicons where doing it back in 2000. I know you're prone of those guys who missed the years between G1 and MP/classics, but they happened.
>>5880288
>"Big metal humans"?
Kind of, but not really. By that argument you can say Ents are just big wooden humans, or Elves are just humans with pointy ears. You'd be ignoring all the subtle nuances that many writers and creators have weaved into the various continuities and lores over the decades that make them more than just "big metal humans".
But when you really think about it, Cybertronians themselves are not natural, they're designed and built (usually by other other aliens, higher powers or other Transfoormers) who themselves are aliens with their own intricacies and such, it's not unreasonable to assume original Cybertronian forms would follow very different and alien design aesthetics that doesn't really look like anything we see here on Earth or even when we think of the more traditional, G1 look. When you take all that into consideration, it opens up a whole universe of potential for different experimental designs, allows us to explore the more alien side of their nature other than just that boring "big metal human" BS.
>>5880320
Oh without a doubt. G1 will always be among the very best of all the continuities and design, the masterpiece line is evidence alone of that. But we shouldn't let nostalgia and adherence to the past restrict creativity, we shouldn't allow it to make us blindly dismiss anything remotely different or outside the traditional desgins. I love G1 as much as the next guy, but I also like to see the more detailed, intricate and alien looking designs too, especially when you can see the nods to the G1 designs throughout it, like the Megatron in OPs picture.
>>5880342
And "Geewuners" like you are the reason why the fandom often looks like it's filled with nothing but petulant twats who can't move on from the 80s.
>>5880223
Death to Videodrome. Make way for the new flesh.
>>5880368
>we shouldn't allow it to make us blindly dismiss anything remotely different or outside the traditional desgins
Oh absolutely. You just know their designers are asking themselves what the fuck where they thinking with those impossible model sheets.
I bet they're happy to work on MP Beast Wars figures. On one hand they still have to workaround animation cheats but at least the focus is on the bot modes and not their alts. It's like the polar opposite of what they've been adhering to up to this point.
>>5880120
Same here. The torso mode isn't too bad, but Snaptrap is really not on the same level as the limbs. Every combiner tends to have one that suffers a bit, but this one really feels like the limbs were made by the main guy and the torso by an intern.
>>5880438
The cycle is nearly absolute.
Are there any which just buying many of the first two can make a complete combination?
>>5880572
>Are there any which just buying many of the first two can make a complete combination?
>>5880572
Not exactly but you could make Poseidon with a snaptrap and 4 big bites
>>5880606
But Snaptrap is the worst one. Unless Tentakil manages to give you cancer and falls apart when you touch it
>>5880626
He's the body. You can't make anything without him.
>>5880626
I haven't really been following cause I have no intentions on buying the full set (2much4me), but is Snaptrap the only mediocre one?
Tentakil is my favourite dude, so I've been waiting for him
>>5880640
>Liking a molestor.
>>5880662
But your mom still likes you!
>>5880640
I seriously hope TFC reworks Snaptrap/Turtler
Those clear cannon and flat combiner head are ruining it
For an unpainted prototype this is looking pretty good. Hope they go with a different silver or some sort of finish. Also as a consequence of the transformation you can do this.

yay or nay?
Looks like you can do a lot of things to play with the barrels and scope actually.
The translucent tip is lame, but it was smart to store the sword in the scope.
>>5880839
>TFC
Nay.
Knock off Hound 2.0's got painted testshots
>>5880632
A further refinement.
Looks like they changed the face, added a new weapon, grenades, a dogtag, fixed the feet, added the Dr. Wu chest bit as an integrated part of the transformation, fixed the forearms, changed the backkibble to sit nicer and integrate the fisticuffs from the hands, slathered it with more paint, and gave it new hands.
>>5880870
Some of them are significant in the franchise history of TFs
Blackout
Sentinel Prime
>>5880820
I like the clear cannons personally. Just the forearms I've been kinda iffy about.
>>5880870
I like the design, personally. Not everything has to cater to G1 all the time.
good grief wotafa rent a storage unit!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vxi1h1ADIw4
>>5880895
Can anyone give a rough overview of what he's saying about it? Good/bad/whats done right/wrong, etc?
>>5880904
Its not a full review. Just a teaser and him showing off his collecting (which is all in boxes). Its really sad.
>>5880107
I can't get over how shit chain looks on toys
I don't know why but this little shit is growing on me. Everything about it says I should hate it.
It's totally because of the tank mode and paint though.
>>5881073
I mean he looks like he might be fun to mess around with.
Looks like it can close its mouth too. It's just so bizarre.
>>5881077
loving these cute little metal slug tanks
>>5880104
There are plenty of the MP style tfs coming, i like and miss the more super robot and unique designed transformers characters.
>>5881120
I just want one that has the twin vulcans
More Cross Dimensional Teasers from MT.
Wish they'd drop the Dinobot thing and just do Voy Seekers.
>>5881175
Kind of a neat idea though.
>>5881175
I'm hoping they do some with more smooth surfaces like in that concept art.
>>5880087
His robot mode is great, if he turned into a tank or spaceship instead of a badly-imagined gun, I'd be all over it.
>>5880239
This,Beast wars was my first transformers property and I'd love to see some more love. Lunar toys have a pretty great Cheetor and Primal available, but I really want a high quality rat trap or Waspinator.
>>5881073
He looks like such a little asshole, I love him.
>>5881192
I'd agree if this was just in a vague classics style, but these are meant to look like more stylized designs like something you'd see in a line like Robot Damashii.
>>5881175
The most interesting part that we didn't know about is Scrap Mags though.
>>5881179
So what is the gimmick on these ones?
>>5880107
The head-sculpt looks terrible and his proportions look really frumpy.
Apollyon is too fragile and the DX9 looks retarded from the waist down.
Here's hoping someone else is going to attempt a MP Megs, because these three really don't cut it.
>>5881219
the gimmick seems to be in-house original designs like Striker Manus and Rioter Despotron or at least that is according to Bobo Skullface.
>>5881239
>DX9 looks retarded from the waist down
He doesn't look that bad. Strike him in a pose and its even less noticeable.
>>5881239
The headsculpt isn't bad, but it's way more Overlord than Megatron, what with those pouty lips.
>>5881207
Oh, I get that. This isn't 5 attempts at the exact same thing like has happened in third party MP stuff.
But it makes me remember when we used to say "wow, that obscure thing is something only third parties could pull off". Now all the third party stuff feels so predictable and Hasbro is the one making batshit unpredictable stuff. Both are fine, and to each their own, but it's still funny to see it invert in only a few years.
>>5880870
boo hoo, the chinese did something good for a significantly acceptable price.
>>5880858
>>5880863
>>5880866
You forgot the best part.
REMOVABLE HELMET
>>5881381
No, their work is good. But they wasted time, talent, and materials trying to make something from a Bayformers film. The designs are an abortion of good taste and sensible design aesthetics.
>>5881393
Go buy another devastating or something. Christ, anytime 3P deviates from almighty G1 , you people have to let your grievances be known.God help you people if 3P Beast Wars gets traction, too.
>>5881393
Why so? The Chinese love Bayformers 4, as evident in the ticket sales in their country. They know the figures will sell with better coats of paint and tweaks to the transformation. They're not wasting their time pandering to your favorite versions of robots since there's a ton of other 3P companies doing that for you.
>>5880895
>Japan
>storage unit
LOL
>>5881440
Only 600,000 a week!
>>5881406
> The Chinese love Bayformers 4, as evident in the ticket sales in their country. T
Actually that was because the large theater chains in China promoted the fuck out of the movie. That seems to be key to success in China, having local stakeholders do the legwork and get the movie past censors.
>>5880870
>>5881393
>stop liking things I don't like
Just give it a rest man. The sooner you can accept that your standards are not the be-all-end-all, the sooner we can move on and resume talking about transforming robot action figures.
>>5881462
Bayformers, and Transformers in general, has always did well in China nowadays.
also wtb Wei Jiang ROTF Sideswipe
>>5881239
>Manchildren displeased with great-looking toys just because they don't perfectly match animation from shitty, 30-year-old toy commercials. More at eleven.
>>5881249
>Transformers collectors
>posing their toys
Good one, matey.
>>5881519
Good point.
>>5881503
I'm not disputing that transformers is popular. I'm just saying that the Bayformers are doing well isn't because of only TFs as a franchise, but because the megachain theater are heavily promoting them and lobbying SARFT to get them fast tracked past censors.
>>5880880
No they're not. They were literally in one movie and forgotten, just like all the other bayformers besides Prime and Bee. Just because you like them doesn't make them significant at all.
>>5881503
Sideswipe's first mold was already pretty good, and the other ones were great as well.
>>5881517
>idiots liking everything every company releases because oooooh shiny

mate that gun is the OP image's altmode
>>5881239
Isn't Apollyon like literally the only MP-tier Megatron that includes the pistol attachment parts?
>>5881811
Yup and it's a stupid move fromthe MT and DX9. What's next? Jazz with no wheels?
>>5880342
That's bullshit. Bay gets away with what he does because herds of imbeciles keep going to see his shitty movies.
>>5880870
Who let Grampa out of his room? Go back to bed, Grampa. We'll bring you some applesauce and horse tranqs later.
>>5881818
Upgrade kits obviously.
It's the third party way.
>>5881823
Not really, he just makes really good trailers to appeal to the masses. He doesn't have a huge fanbase (well there's a fanbase but not the type who would out themselves as "fans of Bayformers") but he knows how to make money, despite the complaints.
>>5881393
Seriously, are you baiting or just crawled up that far into your butthole?
The toys are literally the ONLY good thing about the movie franchise. Suck it.
>>5881846
That's what I wrote. He makes glitzy garbage. Fool me twice, okay. But FOUR TIMES?
And the worst part is, it doesn't need to be this stupid. The movies could be every bit as spectactular without being retarded.
>>5881864
Goes without a saying that DOTM, despite multiple extended Sam scenes is probably the only sequel they gave a fuck about for Transformers since ROTF suffered from a writer's strike with a couple of other movies and AoE was phoned in because Bay wanted to make his Benghazi movie so they depended on China's involvement in the film to gain the foreign chinabux market.
>>5881182
You'll get those in the re:master line.
>>5880834
looks good but damn, what the hell is happening with those knee joints
>>5881838
third party upgrade kits for a 3p? whats next, a hasbro upgrade kit for a third party?
>>5882354
They already have that, it's called UW Devastator. It upgrades your older 3P Dev's directly into the trash can or eBay.
>>5880087
holy fuck kids, don't mind me, enjoy what you want, but I really have to say I am shocked that anyone is interested in this POS shitatron.
The "gun mode" is just a pile of greebles and hoops put into a vague pistol shape. It's terrible. Paint won't save that. Calling something cybertronian doesn't forgive the fact that it looks like a lump of glued-together turds.
The G1 Despotron, while not perfect, at least has a distinct robot and alternate mode, whereas the other toy looks identical in both...just a lump of geometric forms that takes on either a humanoid or pistol shape. Lame. The optimus is stupid too...or at least, it's stupid because the truck mode looks so pitiful.
Really don't understand some people's taste. Do you buy just because it's from a company you like, or is it because you saw someone else get excited by it?
>>5882429
Giant and Hercules are still better products. The robots are fully fleshed out and there's no hollow bits. You don't have to pay extra for elbows.
UW Devastator beats them at their full retail price but since you can grab them for ~200 now there's no excuse to have the official piece of shit.
>>5882450
>Greebles
Post discarded.
>>5882450
My guess is like with gundam models, people seem starved for "detail" and choose greebles and a vague form of something they know over the official variations.
Even an mp, upscaled or shrunk, won't save someone who wants more, let them get as they wish, its easier to throw out these figures as they get older than the official stuff, give it 10-20 years and they'll ask themselves "what the fuck is this shit" unlike mp-10 who you'd know who it is and regret trying to do so
Who's ready for this awesome fucker?
>>5882450
I don't know why you're comparing it to Despotron, they're going for two completely different aesthetics and sizes. The MT cross dimension isn't trying to be an accurate G1 figures, they're heavily stylized reinterpretations. Its like how with Gundam, you'll get figures or model kits based on a designer's redesign, as well as ones that try and go for animation accuracy, and more.
I don't know what it is about transformers fans; maybe it's because things like stylized interpretations or non-transforming figures are relatively rarer or newer for them, but its like things that other fandoms and collectors have known or had for decades are confusing and new to them.
>>5881239
It really depends on "what" you are drawing these comparisons from.
This guy is pretty much an IDW interpratiation of a g1 styled megaton. I don't think he is meant to BE a literal cartoon recreation of the character.
Just look at it, you can see it's not meant to be what everyone is comparing it to.
>>5882649
I don't think you understood my post. I was only comparing it to G1 Despotron because that figure achieves the concept of transformers: To disguise a robot with an alternate form.
I don't like the OP figure because it doesn't really transform. It looks the same in both modes. Just a chunk of junk. It's like if you place both arms in the air and tell everyone you'd "transformed" into the letter 'Y'. Sure, I guess you changed, but you still look pretty much identical.
To summarize, the alt mode is shit.
Review is up in japanese for MT Megs
>>5882473
where in the hell do you find Giant or Herc for $200.
>>5880223
Existenze is on pause
Either wotafa has baby Trump hands, or that gun mode is seriously oddly scaled.
>>5882744
To be fair, the thing has to turn into a robot the size of MP-10, and Despotron is quite bulky. Getting the thing to look like a perfect to-scale Walther P38 would be a nightmare.
Third party combiner made out of cute robot insects when?
Well, guess the Megatron wars falls down to who you like more.
Mightron has the better gun mode and scopegun.
Despotron has the better overall robot mode, but a worse gun mode. Also his chest needs a bit more vertical size to it.
>>5882635
I was, but a Chinese video review revealed that there's some pretty extensive partsforming so I'm out. I was fine with the rocket bits and head breaking off because that's a fundamental part of the alt mode design, but beyond that they could/should have kept it seamless.
>inb4 someone calls me autistic because I don't automatically plunk $150 on everything that looks good in photos
>>5882786
Personally I like the look of Despotron better, but I feel like Mightron fits in better with Masterpieces. Despotron is just too chunky to blend in.
>>5882786
Pretty much.
The only thing these two new figures have made me feel is that Apollyon can now be sold from my collection.
None are perfect in any regards so it's just a matter of preferences.
>>5882787
No, I'd call you autistic because the partsforming was faithful to the G1 figure but you still aren't happy. Not that it matters though, your loss honestly.
>>5882850
sounds like Megatron has the same problem with 3P Astrotrain does
every attempt does one thing right that another can't, but fails at whatever the other excels at.
>>5882787
Yeah I'd call you pretty autistic, but I think the hate for partsforming in general is autistic.
>>5883020
Well, it's the best you can hope for with a 'bot like Megatron. His traditional proportions and altmode make it a royal bastard to actually make a good figure out of him.
Still, both have relatively simple transformations, and both do a good job at different things. Both are good representations. That said, I'm swaying my "Gotta buy" from the DX9 to the Maketoys. Despite it's ultra chunktacular altmode handle, I like it's proprotions better in botmode.
I think the DX9 is probably the better MP though.
He finally came and the only problem I have is his head is loose. Floor polish here I come.
Had a mini haul for my birthday with some Takara figures but most notably Pink Assassin (Arcee) came today and she's adorable.
The inclusion of the stand is great along with the bonus sword for Windblade.
I Also ordered Lightning Blizzard and the X2 upgrade for that Magnus so I can't wait for those as well.
>>5883067
Where'd you get minicee? I didn't think they hit the west yet. Hell Black Shadow isn't in my usual spot just yet.
>>5883067
Shit I want that mini Arcee. And Windblade.
>>5883053
I wanted to get him, but I don't know if I should wait till that another company releases him.
>>5883101
I got him because he is a good figure on his own. I don't think I would be able to finish this whole set soon since I keep buying other stuff so my budget for them keeps going to the drain.
>>5883053
LEOZACK?
son of a bitch
How is he?
>>5883124
Besides the loose neck ball joints? Amazing.
>>5883090
I got her from The Chosen Prime. They usually ship asap once payment is sent.
>>5883104
If you're not looking to complete the set I really highly suggest Aikos(Guyhawk). He fixes the Hellbat issues and you actually get the most accessories out of him. Plus he has a glorious smirk just like Leozack.
I'm not really a toy collector, but where i can find Beast Wars toys, i loved the series as child and i would like to have a Rampage toy and maybe Dinobot
>>5883141
Go ask the actual /tfg/ thread cause this is for the unofficial deformation toys. But Ebay and local toyshows in your area should work.
>>5883140
Oh I'm gonna get all of them sooner or later but I am either thinking of getting Guyhawk or Jallguar for my next piece. Well there is a toyshow in my area on the 18th so I'll probably find an Aiakos there or something.
>>5883147
Oh I see.
Millage may vary in quality control but everything on mine is great aside from the Cerberus knee connector issue which was is remedied by the fan mode.
I really can't stress enough how amazing Guyhawk is. I almost want to buy another one just to play with him on the side and keep the other combined mode.
>>5883139
I will never understand why everyone turned on Hades just because of skulldude's review. I've got them and love them.
>>5883147
Sorry i thought this was the official, it looks more active
>>5883170
The official is much more active. They go through about a thread a day, then again it's mostly shitposting.
>>5883161
It really is mileage may vary, it's just the neck joint which is easy to fix.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZObO9xyMZs
I think I'm back on the fence after wotafa's reviews. MT engineering is on Takara's level. Honestly I doubt they could give a cleaner looking bot. The gun mode suffers as others have stated but, he'll be in bot mode 98% of the time. I might just stick with mightron because he looks more animation accurate but one extra push is all I need to switch camps.
>>5883104
Yeah, I have no plans on building the combiner. I just like Leozack
By quality control issues, is it just loose joints that's otherwise fixable?
>>5882744
he's Japanese. expect small everything.
>>5883205
Yeah that loose ball joint is fixable with floor polish.
Looks like Peaugh's got him in hand. Mightrons cannon actually fits on his arm. Doesn't looks half bad.
>>5883235
shit forgot pic
>>5883268
i just wish apollyon's fucking hips would lock properly and that goddamned fucking leg kibble of all fucking places to pile on an eyesore.
I still like mine though.
I want more ;_;
>>5883268
The one in the middle looks the worst. Which one is which?
>>5883268
Can somebody please label which one is which here?
>>5883268
>>5883310
Any that turn into an attack helicopter?
>>5883168
Because he usually tells it as it is and has cred for slamming XTR/KFC where a lot of reviewers are serial apologists for even the worse shit. It's just now it turned out Bobo Skull has his own peculiarities of what he considers good and is now trigged by official products and needs his 3P safe space.
>>5883318
in all fairness, KFC is usually crap. Transistor and Apollyon are rare instances of doing well, and even they have issues.
Citizen Stack, ugh.
>>5883300
>another Trailbreaker
Blurr wars when?
>>5883318
Skully lost some cred with me after he slammed DX9 Gerwalt. I ended up getting him anyway and couldn't be more happy with it.
>>5883323
Already happened bro. UT won.
I feel like Skully is a giant shill. That shit with the TFC Hades was rather unprofessional and his set up is usually just disgustingly boring.
You can tell he put no effort whatsoever at 4 am in the morning just to rush that shit out for views because he was the first one to review it.
>>5883315
no, just a gun that sexually identifies as one
So I just ordered BB7 Skywarp for $99 shipped from California New. Did I fuck up? or is it really better than the HasTak MP11 mold?
>>5883300
Lel. I feel fucking fantastic I stepped out of the MP market and sold my junk.
Now we have a 4 way in the Trailbreaker wars. So this like completely guarantees Takara's next MP is going to be Trailbreaker right? Also how many protos is FT up to now? Looks like they handled the legs the best out of the crew. Badcube/Ocular Max have vehicle modes that are going to be hard to beat.
>>5883365
I think it's rather a reflection of his biases. If he hates something he'll go all out to try and show it in a negative ligh.
>>5883355
One MP-ish release happened, but the typical hailstorm of competition hasn't followed it. The SXS one is mostly IDW-styled.
>>5883351
I don't know, Gerwalt feels a little bland to me, and that head transformation looks just plain stupid.
>>5883514
>So this like completely guarantees Takara's next MP is going to be Trailbreaker right?
3P's and HasTak pretty much all know what the other is doing at any given time. The Trailbreaker ways likely stem from several of them knowing the other was putting one out soon, so went ahead with theirs.
However, the two Megatron's out of nowhere might signify that theres going to be a new MP gun Megs in the works, something people have wanted for a long time.
>>5883557
>a new MP gun Megs in the works
Yeah... probably not.
>>5883571
I wouldn't write it off that fast. There's honestly not that many 1984/85 car molds left at this point. We also get at least one new large MP mold a year.
I think in the next year we'll get a heavily animation accurate MP Megatron, big diaper and all, and that's gonna be really divisive.

Wait a third party is actually going through with that design?
>>5883887
Two companies actually. I think one of them is ToyWorld and the other one is a new company I don't remember the name of.
>>5883894
Toyworld's one never happened
>>5884005
New to the 3rd party scene I see. Have some patience.
>>5883197
Who's ready for the inevitable $89 upgrade kit with stock, silencer and better head?
>>5884012
That's a fair statement and all but it's been dead for 3 years and the only proof of its existence is a silhouette. And Toyworld's been chugging out new shit nonstop since that.
I think it's safe to say it's dead for good
>>5884020
Also, might I add, the silhouette was taken straight from one of the covers of IDW's ongoing series. It's not even a prototype silhouette
Believing that it's coming ever is just delusional
>>5884016
I imagine some smartass will make one that fits both Might- and Despotron.
>>5883310
Not sure which looks better, Mightron or Despotron. I'll have to wait for the reviews before committing.
>>5883197
>he'll be in bot mode 98% of the time
This is why I have a problem with Megatron being a gun in general. It's to the point where the gun mode is a formality, yet it really demands a lot of engineering to have a decent one, yet remain cartoon-accurate. Such a strange position for a figure to be in.
>>5884016
>better head
So people just don't like the head because it isn't as cartoon accurate as the others, right? Because it's a damn great headsculpt in all the pictures I've seen, especially the "maniacal laugh" variant. In fact, Despotron in general seems to be all about eschewing cartoon-accuracy for the sake of just being a better-looking toy.
>>5884176
IMP it's bad comparatively to the DX9 and apollyon headsculpts. I think they nail the angular helmet and longer face just right.
It's my only complaint with the toy though and I think it's the best megatron to date. It's almost flawless assuming QC is good. I even like the curvier pistol mode.
>>5884168
I think mass shifting is dead even in the comics so Megs being a tank/jet whatever will always make more sense.
>>5884603
>think mass shifting is dead even in the comics
Only if you're not a combiner, it's still very much a thing with them.
Also, IDW Megatron has not transformed in years.
>>5884168
Agreed. To make even a decent looking gun is going to demand sacrifices for the bot mod, and as much as I love fiddling with my figures and transforming them between modes, changing any of my Megatron's to their gun mode is just meh.
>>5884808
>changing any of my Megatron's to their gun mode is just meh.
Actually, the Megatron I have the most fun transforming into a gun is an official Hasbro product...
>>5884822
It also looks the shittiest, so it balances out.
>>5884808
I'm okay with the gun mode being a little less than perfect for a bot mode thats better. Like most TF fans, I'd think, they generally would prefer to sacrifice from the alt mode rather than the bot mode.
That said, both the DX9 and the MT versions look great. Both have their tiny faults, but the transformations on both look good, unlike the clusterfuck mess that was MP5 and Apolloyon.
How's iGear's Cosmos? I like the little raygun and the "fishbowl" helmet, and he isn't much more expensive than Legends Cosmos, but I hear the real deal is absolutely great. Also the iGear figure's green is a bit iffy.
>>5883887
Yes it is pretty sexy though has proper robot proportions rather than the comic proportions. They have an IDW Prime to go with it too. Same deal on the proportions.
>>5884992
There's also one coming out from Toyworld if you like stumpy little saucers.
>>5885110
Generation Toy and Transformission are apparently going all in with IDW designs at MP scale.
I think they might have just dumped the Warbotron name and designers at this point since they've got nothing else in the pipeline and both Gravity Builder and Not-Menasor look vastly superior.
Gravity builder is probably the last in the line of original designs as everything else in the works is just comic stuff.
And that's the last of the dump

>>5885285
Someone's triggered. That legends figure isn't even competing with any 3P stuff, except maybe IF, but not really since it's still smaller than their scale.
>>5885319
Now imagine how great a similar toy could be if a competent company made a completely new one from the ground up, instead of for some mystifying reason working around an existing toy.
>>5885328
Yeah really. I genuinely thought it was a completely different figure until I saw the arms.
You might as well just steal the engineering, fix those arms, and release it as a whole separate figure, man.
>>5884849
I have to admit, the way the arms and legs expand on Mightron is pretty awesome, but the legs end up a little ugly, imo. And Despotron, just huge legs, but I haven't watched any reviews yet. A fun, creative transformation is part of the sell for me.
>>5884822
Holy shit, that photoshopped lighting is terrible
>>5885158
That actually looks really good, although very little of the original figure is even visible. Can it transform without partsforming?
3Pfriends, I want an in-scale MP Grimlock, what are my options?
>>5885339
Well, to spoil it for you: The Despo transformation is actually pretty easy looking, but not much happens with the legs. You flip some panels, you sandwich them together, and it ends up being this super unweildy looking, thick handgrip. The rest of the gun mode looks fine, but the handle is really huge.
>>5884992
The colors are wrong, the face looks ugly, and pulling the helmet out is a pain in the ass.
just stick with the HasTak release.
>>5884822
I agree it's a fun bite sized Megatron, but the orange barrel and dull grey paint that's prone to scratching are both turn off's. My copy also happened to develop a huge crack on the ball joint of the right shoulder.
>>5885349
Either the FT grimy you have pictured or the upscaled KO of MP 8.

>>5885349
>>5885423

>>5885517
I know anon, I'm a masochist or something cuz I'm also still waiting on Gladius
>>5885519
Totally different approaches. Beezleboss's still retains the look of the original figure, but with some aesthetic improvements. SND's looks like an entirely new figure and gets a massive height upgrade.
>>5885538
Something about S.N.D.'s doesn't feel as good as Beelzeboss's to me.
It's kind of hard to explain, but I get the same feeling looking at it that I do from TR Soundwave, more "toy-like"
>>5885519
Technically they are both comic designs. SND is the former IDW Optimus like Gcreations and Generation Toy are doing. This Beelzeboss one is designed after the combiner wars art.
Was thinking of getting one for Prime proper and then one for nemesis Prime but given how they scale differently that's probably not in the cards.
>>5885480
Yeah, example of that is with KO Tracks and Roadrage, the KO fixed the hood issue and added rubber tires.
KO Roadrage come with a flightstand, while the Takara one does not.
>>5885636
>rubber tires
>took out the plastic tires
>adding a part that knowingly degrades
>while removing one that will likely last your mortal lifespan intact

Fans are a weird bunch
They want chrome even though it damages very easy and flakes even easier with no means to restore it
They want diecast even though it chips paint easily, puts serious stress on the plastic and joints around it, ages poorly and just like chrome can't truly be restored once damaged.
They want large transparent parts even thought that ensures breakage of said parts, doubly so if it's part of a joint.
They want "authentic" rubber on wheels and what not even though if it's larger than a dime it's ensured to crumble in just a few years
And when you point this out they take offense and either accuse you of being poor or not treating your toys "right"
>>5885686

I don't want any of that shit on my toys. That shit is terrible. I wish they'd stop doing that. Especially since you can get super shiny golds and silvers with paint alone, you don't need chrome for that shit.

Shit I didn't realize it was so close. I just paid for Generation Toy's Dump Truck. Master Made Spreem, and the IF dudes had already come in a week ago.
>>5885736
It doesn't look like you can go wrong with either of the two MP Megatrons even though each have some definite weaknesses and strengths. This guy isn't trying to compete with that and it's getting points from me for being the black sheep. That gun mode looks great and I think the stock folds up on the back of the robot. The tank mode is the cherry on top while the play you get with a bunch of the accessories looks good.
The head sculpt and some of the proportions aren't where I want it to be, but the designer was saving the head to for last from what I gathered. Hopefully Bold Forms pulls this one off with minimal parts forming and nonsense unlike their previous release. I just wish this was smaller in robot mode. Though that's more of a requirement for the gun mode.
>>5885746
Same. The fact that both the gun and tank modes look great is amazing, but god I hate MP scale.

>abortions of design, Bayformers.
Even if you have a nostalgiaboner for blocky 80s designs you have to admit ILM did a pretty good job at translating transformers to designs that would work in photoreal live action (except for film 4).
No one disagrees that the films themselves are painful to watch.
>>5886380
The CGI in the first film holds up pretty damn well today. That's more than can be said for Avatar
>>5886382
Personally I think the CGI in the 2007 film was much better than the latest one. The lighting and reflections looked much more realistic whereas the Age of Extinction bots had a fake video-game feel.
>>5880606
Fuck, I never cared for combiners but I'm starting to genuinely want Piranacon.
No way I'm shelling out that much moosebucks for it, though. I'll just settle with Tentakil (assuming he comes out good) and whatever buddy.
>>5886380
I think a lot of the Autobot designs are good. Optimus and Bumblebee particularly, and I know those are probably the two they really went out of their way to nail so it makes sense.
But the Decepticon designs are abysmal, they all just look like a bundle of pointy silver bits.
Designs that are as panely as the ones in bayformers need to have like well-defined blocks of color on them to remain easy to tell apart from one another and to really just have distinguishable forms at all in fast motion on film. The choice to make so many of the characters really monochromatic is baffling because it specifically does not work with the hyperkinetic cinematography and editing style of the films. The characters that don't have strong color blocking on them end up looking like an indistinct ball of knives when you're seeing them in quick cuts of action shots.
>>5886394
Some of the Decepticon designs were good. Rampage, Long Haul, Shockwave (though he could have been more purple), Blackout and Brawl in particular were pretty awesome. Some of the background generics were cool as well. Megatron went from ehhhh (movie 1) to eh, OK (movie 2) to actually pretty cool (movie 3).
>>5886380
The CGI is good, I'll give it that.
But good CGI is never going to save the aesthetics of those designs. They're 100% trash. Literally. They look like walking heaps of trash.
I'm not saying everything has to look G1, it doesn't. But I am saying they are without a doubt the worst designs in the entire franchise and make my eyes bleed.
Someone stop me before I go all in on these motherfuckers.
