For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

I picked up a big sheet of 2mm thick styrene. The thing is so hard so cut. I tried scoring the piece 100 times, but it still splinters instead of breaking along the line I scored.

What should I do?

>>5873525
Yeah 2mm is a little thick for score&snap, but perhaps you could try to do it in a faster snapping motion? Have the scored line directly on the edge of a table.

You can also use a junior hacksaw or photo-etch saw. You can also use a hot wire foam cutter (styrofoam is styrene too) but it gets messy along the cut if you dwell too long.

Gluing 1mm styrene is going to work better, but there is a shop that sells 25*50*2mm sheets for less than 3 $. The price if too good for me to pass on that.

>>5873542
I will probably use a saw.
The hot wire is surely going to make a mess. I don't think I could cut a straight line with such thick and hard material.
>>
>>5873594
>The price if too good for me to pass on that.

Well now you know why it was cheap and that you get what you pay for.
>>
>>5873594
Whether you use saw or hotwire, remember to leave some allowance in addition to the thickness of the tool. Neither methods produce clean cuts and you need to finish the edges with some filing and sanding.
>>
>>5873594
You realize that 25*50mm is like 1x2 inches right? Millimeters are tiny units.

Just had these Hasegawa Trytool metal stencils come in. I know they're traditionally used for scribing panel lines onto models, but would it work for cutting a shape out of thin plaplate? If I stick it onto a flat sheet with tape and then use my scriber to keep indenting the shape into the plastic. Anybody tried or am I wasting time?

Any general tips for these things or guides/videos you know of would help.

Guys, I'm stumped. How do I separate the visor parts F36 and G1 for painting if they slot inside the head perpendicular to the seam line? (and that F36 is part of the ball joint socket for the neck polycap?)

I tried dry fitting the F36 to slide in by doing a few cuts, but the piece doesn't clear the opening when the head is assembled. Help?

Anyone know where I can find some thin sheets of polystyrene foam board? Like 1-3mm foamboard. Not a solid plastic, more of a dense styrofoam. I need something that cuts a little easier for building inner frames/supports for ships and large objects like buildings.

Just finished building Kampfer Amazing, and needless to say it's, well, amazing. It's also has much more stable joints than my old HGUC Kampfer. Is this because of the time it was made in or did I just do a bad job with the HGUC? I built it when I was much younger

My Amazing's backpack falls off with so much as looking at it wrong because it's so backheavy with the binders attached, and the lower leg connections absolutely refuse to stay attached to the knee joint. If this thing topples for any reason, or even if I'm just reposing it, legs and binders coming off is almost a guarantee.

They're fine unless you have hamhands. Just be a bit more tender with the parts and you'll do just fine.

They only have enough personnel to ship locally and supply neighboring countries for their own P-Bandai shops.

You're grossly underestimating how difficult it is for a company to handle physical distribution on its own, much less international. Most likely they wouldn't bring in nearly enough money from international sales to justify it.

In Japan and Asia P-Bandai and gunpla in general is exposed to everyone, even young kids. In the west it's just some 20-something autists, which is like 1 out of 4 age demographics Bandai has in Asia (adolescents, teens, young adults, adult men who got hooked with MSG)

Considering how many private sellers they'd undercut this argument is bullshit, especially if they matched the ebay and amazon sellers who just resell their shit at a profit. I may be a retard or something but I fail to see how putting an adress on a box other than inside Japan would be more difficult, or even better, allow bluefin to sell and take the risk in America.

It's goddamn fucking retarded that they'd help you use middlemen instead of just selling/giving the rights to HLJ, amiami and hobbysearch.
All three of these sites have Japanese and international versions right?
If they can sell the Bandai star wars plamo on their Japanese sites but restrict it from their international sites I'm all but too confident that they could sell P-bandai internationally but not domestically

Maybe I had to take that "coating" layer off the one stick, I dunno. Maybe it's because I left the garage door open and the humid air came in.
I'm going to give Tamiya a try next, unless it's just as soft and unadhesive, then I'm sticking with Green Stuff :/

The only catch with the G30th is that the eyes and faceplate are molded as a single piece, so it makes masking the eye areas and painting up the eyes and red streak thing pretty hard.

That said, I've been having a problem painting up the eyes properly. Even with thinned paints, the paint tends to not settle flat, but that bubble shape.

With thinned acrylics, I have to build up those details with thin washes for the color?

AGPs are just shit. Expensive shit, but they fill a niche thats willing to buy substandard products. Admittedly with the kancolle line there's been actual improvements, but if they just dumped more R&D into their manufacturing and QC they could shit all over figmas

Bandai botching Super Fumina was fucking hilarious, what would you expect from a company so full of itself? The Figure-rise bust debacle is another hilarious shitshow of Bandai flailing its sore limbs wildly. Shite Bandai sculptors simply can't sculpt decent to good faces.
>>
>>5876716
Not so, the jews at GSC/MF/whoever makes figmas have increased the prices so much it's closing the gap with AGPs.

Though you get a decent quality product, you can enjoy having no accessories, and having to pay more for exclusive webshop only extras.
>>
>>5876727
I think its better it stays this way actually. Koto has swept up this market by doing the right thing and heavily investing in the first release of the FAG, and now they're more relevant outside of zoids and their misc scifi kits. No one likes a market monopoly
>>
A little while ago I think someone had an image that explained some 3rd party way to get P. Bandai shit.
Can someone post it again?I really want that heavyarms.
>>
Quick reminder that AGP and super fumina are made by two entirely separate divisions and staff of bandai.

I've never painted anything with an inner frame, but I'm planning on a 1/100 kimaris trooper custom
>>
>>5876727
Most companies can't to be honest. Not even sure why people like FAGs that much, they have gangly bodies and the faces are only okayish. Only Figma has actually good anime human sculpts, everyone else ranges from bad to mediocre.
>>
>>5876757
Agree on the stylised proportions, but
>cheap(relatively)
>85% accuracy of the original lineart
>customisable
>entered the market at the appropriate time
>pushed out releases at a good pace
>>
>>5876728
The yen's been strong against the yuan and increasing for all of 2016. They really are just Jews. Not surprising considering figma gets the flavor of the month licenses and old but popular franchises (like YGO), which means they always have strong franchises on their side.
>>
>>5876768
Otakus are just oodles of money waiting to be harvested anyway, they can keep getting away with this because there's not much competition.
>>
>>5876764
This.
Koto hit a gold mine and basically owns the plamo market with quality products. Bandai only has Gundam floating it and they're not even that good.
>>
>>5876737
>Koto has swept up this market by doing the right thing and heavily investing in the first release of the FAG
Quite simply the reason they deserve praise from anybody. Bandai wouldn't listen and the discerning consumer began pecking at its feet. They've completely lost market share and are now fumbling with sub par and mediocre dreck.
>>
>>5876780
The Gundam IP is pretty huge, Koto simply can't match up in raw marketing power like Bandai can.

Also Bandai gets to tap the foreign market, even hosting things like GWBC or Expos unlike Koto who is basically unknown outside their few vidya gaems kits. The scale of manufacturing is simply too different to compete
>>
>>5876790
Bandai cares little about the consumer, their strategy is simple: saturate the market with their mediocre garbage and profiting from people who don't know any better. They also attempt to kill the competition with shit like AGP, thankfully, Koto and FA:G thwarted their attempts by offering superior products.
>>
>people actually like FAGS

The Guntank.
>>
>>5876780
Bandai appeals to a much wider audience. There stuff is mass market rather than collector and targetted at almost all ages. Koto is more aimed at collectors and regular modelers and while well detailed Bandai usually beats them at overall engineering and price point.

Overall they are two very different companies, koto just came out as the superior one when it came to models of mecha musume. And its not like Gourai was without issues either.

>>
>>5876790
Saying the Gundam IP is pretty huge is an understatement. The model making division alone puts Koto, the entire company, to shame. That isn't even accounting for DVDs, toys, and miscellaneous goods.
>>
>>5876828

>>
Man, I can only just see the FAG as an extremely risky business venture that luckily paid off.

Mecha-musume lines were generally shit and dead all around, and having Fumikane design the girls was nothing new either. Even more so when you decide to release what would originally be an action figure as a model kit, instantly adding a shit ton of risks. It may be popular now, but back then you would never know just how much you could actually sell to the market, and whether it would be feasible for further developments.
>>
>>5876840
koto takes risks yet bandai doesn't, it's the simple as fuck secret to success and future market dominance. give me a choice between craftsmen and shitty businessmen, I'd take the former without second thought. more amazing is the fact koto has better business sense and a skill for innovations .
>>
>>5876849
IBO was quite the departure from typical gundam stuff though, I wouldn't bash Bandai that much.
>>
>>5876866
koto beat them to frames in their mechs, frame arms ring a bell? also ibo designs and the show was shit so zero points . try harder next time
>>
>>5876899
>also ibo designs and the show was shit so zero points
objectively incorrect on both counts, sorry, try again freindo
>>
>>5876899
Generally nice and more importantly, fresh designs with decent detail and low price is quite good in my books. I don't watch Gundam shows so no comment.

I too like Koto and wish for them to succeed, but tone down the fanboyism there.
>>
>>5876840
The rise of popularity in (military related thing) + girls series starting bringing interest back to the mecha musume market and was peaking with the success of Kancolle so Koto jumped in at just the right time.

>>5876899
Bandai has had mechs and models with frame in them long before frame arms existed. Hell, the old 1/144 victory line even uses a standardized inner frame.
>>
>>5876725
Why'd you thin it?

I'm trying to prime pieces with rattle can primer for my first painted kit (so no airbrush yet), but the primer comes out grainy. Like there is very fine sand on the pieces.
What am I doing wrong? Spraying from too far/close? Wrong temperature? Not shaking the can enough?
>>
>>5877130
it may be the prier, but it may also be humidity/temperature making the paint dry before it even hits the parts, making it clump up on the model
>>
>>5876291
>that anime blue

I just tested it, and that color's closest equivalent is andrea blue in the Vallejo model color line. Needs about 5% white or something to make it right.

You can always go back in with 1200 grit and wetsand it to a smooth finish.

>selling/giving the rights to HLJ, amiami and hobbysearch.
If they do that they lose margins to distributors and the retailers even if they give exclusivity to one retailer. P-Bandai is about limited production items with high margins. Bandai's just not going to do it. They don't believe the western market will bring in enough profit to justify setting up an international shop that will handle customer service, regulations, shipping agreements, and so forth. With middlemen the middleman only takes the service fee from the buyer, Bandai still retains the entire profit on the P-Bandai kit.

>bluefin to sell and take the risk in America.
Bluefin's a distributor, see above about losing margins.

>If they can sell the Bandai star wars plamo on their Japanese sites but restrict it from their international sites I'm all but too confident that they could sell P-bandai internationally but not domestically
Different situation. They're legally restricted from selling outside of Japan because of Disney. They're also not like P-Bandai. Again, P-Bandai is limited production. They only make a handful of kits compared to regular releases and once they're gone they may or may not get reproduction.
>>
>>5876840
>action figure
I really can't imagine how expensive it will be considering the price of the kits already.

The did choose the right time.
>>
>>5877592
Gotta hand it over to them, those geniuses at Kotobukiya knew their game and played it well.
