That's My current issue with MMC. All the figures of the 'current' stuff (after the Feralcons) have fiddy PITA transformations. I have Cynicus, Commotus, Azalea, Salvia Prominion, and Seraphicus Prominion. Beautiful figures, but I hate transforming them. No issues with transforming the Feralcons or Terminus Hexatron, though.

Got the last two members of TF Hades today. My Ceberus' right comber peg had loosened and couldn't support any weight. Luckily Aiakos came with two replacement combiner pegs for Cerberus and both of them ended up breaking as well. Good stuff.

Definitely durable, but as said by others some surfaces are sharp and some of the transformation steps take a surprising amount of force. Pretty much everything on this thing is tight, sometimes too tight (though again, not to the point of breakage).

So I'm not sure I would recommend this for a young kid. For anyone around 10 or older it should be fine though.

Also I fucking love the "Ridemaster" (that's what I call them anyway) gimmick with these guys.

I wouldn't call Commotus finicky. Cynicus is also really easy to transform, the hardest part is just keeping him from flopping around when you're dealing with 2 unpegged torso balljoints+2 legs+2 arms. And that takes all of 30 seconds.

I picked up bigbite on a whim and it is easily one of my favorite 3rd party figs this year. It doesn't even feel like a typical tfc product and more in par with maketoys or mmc.

It helps that they're finally using a new combiner port system, but the smart thing to do if you want to go all in on a combiner is wait until at least the torso bot is released since they make or break the limbs. With the improvements they've made to the combiner connections and joints I hope this is the one. TFC has never had super solid combiners. Only their Devastator after a bunch of replacement parts and Defensor have been solid.

Well, they're the original springer's shoulders/fenders, so they're HUGE
Now that I've finished the video, I definitely won't buy it. I think only the cockpit, thrusters, and fins are the only alt mode pieces visible in robot mode that are real. The fake out origami style was always one of my biggest complaints with the official masterpiece line, and this figure takes it to an extreme.

Damn fine head sculpt though.

Just an all around shit show. Personally they just don't do enough with their simplistic transformations. It's one thing to turn the beast feet into the robot claws, its another thing to not hide the hands at all during this process. Or when locking the kibble in place impedes leg bend range of motion to almost nothing. Like with their dinobots, its like they gave up half way through the design process.

Both of those look SO much better painted. Overall, I'm still pretty bummed about how the FP Dinonots turned out but they still look nice enough for me to finish the line off. They really aren't bad toys, they're just not what I was hoping for. I think the biggest problem is they started strong with a weaker character and started to peter out from there. Biggest disappointment was Grimlock just because he should have by all means been the best but it felt like they had some good ideas that they just didn't know how to fully follow up on to complete him and what we got came out a mixed bag. Ah well, they're still my pick for a CHUG style Dinobot team.

A few people were shown a smaller Optimus that combines with his trailer with some sort of powermaster on his back. I need opinions on this guy. I really want an Abominus, and this guy looks really good but I just know it's a lot of dosh to drop, and I know combiners are iffy 3P territory 75% of the time.

I watch review after review but they seem to sort of conflict with eachother.

Individually they are all over the place. Combined, they look pretty great if lacking some things.

You will need to:

>Fix Siegfried's leg sliding mechanism by taking apart the legs and cutting the spring else you will never get it out of combined mode

>Replace the combiner knee ratchets with new ones since they will eventually snap while you've got that shit opened

>remove or cut part of the mechanism that goes into Fenrir else you will never get him separated from Siegfried

My rankings:

Troll - Fucking great aside from the black plastic starting to "crust" up and deform on the edges. Wish the troll feet would fold in to the legs like Fenrir, but he gets some good range out of it to compensate. Violence hand option is great. Troll mode is awesome and different.

Alberich- I just really like him I don't know why. He wears the kibble well. Beast arms and knees need polish or they will flop everywhere after a month. Missing wrist swivels

Siegfried - Would be number two because of his great looks and inoffensive beast mode, but you have to fix so much shit with him. You have to floor polish the ball joints on his feet or he won't stand on his own as well.

Fenrir - Proportion problems, crappy rubber tail whips that have no where to go and the rubber starts deform, kibble that just flops on the back, the dragon heads try to be articulated but are no good at it, head doesn't lock anywhere in robot mode. Other than that he has all the articulation that he should.

Hagen - Looks like shit, doesn't, wear the kibble well at all, crappy bird head, crappy wings that look awful. Beast mode looks like a flying turd, knees are worse than Alberich.

I saw MMC's Kultur on display at TFNation over the weekend. The body looks okay but the head sculpt....something just sort of throws me off? Then, you get to the back of the thighs and it's just...flat? It reminds me of a Legends figure, but upscaled. He has this weird buttflap that is no doubt going to interfere with the Transformation. It feels like MMC's been slipping lately.

It feels like every Voyager class figure MMC are putting out are the exact same fucking remold. Their Whirl, Rodimus, Death's Head, base Nova Prime, and that other one with the translucent blades look to be the exact same mold with different parts tacked on, it's super fucking lazy.

MakeToys really seem to be the best beyond anything else out of the OG companies. Gen Toy and Iron Factory are definitely stand outs from the newer companies though

While Spinx did have a few QC issue reports it was a solid first effort. Backdraft unfortunately had more widespread QC issues that otherwise hurt what would have been a another solid figure. If they can just tighten up these QC issues they'll be on the road to success like BC. Lets see how their Trailbreaker works out before casting final judgement on them.

Honestly the only part that looks like an issue in that video is the weird leg armor bits. No only do they look like they impede movement a bit, they also like to catch on the skirts and pop themselves off. That seems like an odd thing.

Still, given I own a bunch of MMC shit so far, all purchased well after tons of reviews and good word was out, I'll be willing just this once to give them benefit of the doubt and say they'll have things fixed by release. All their other figures I own-Hexatron, Cynicus, Anarchus, a full Feral Rex, Commotus-Have been solid, and the only issues I've had have been Hexatron not coming with his guns (which isn't a QC error so much as a packaging one I guess?) and I was sent free replacements swiftly for them, and my Leodux having the bar installed upside down inside of him preventing the filler pieces from sticking into his chest.

I agree with you, I saw it in person at one of their actual stores and the head looks really bad. I know everyone says 'Oh it's not that bad you're being over-critical' but yes in person it looks too flat and cheap. It doesn't even really look like Tarn in person.
And the whole figure over all looks less polished than Cynicus or Anarchus. I don't know what happened. Tarn was the one everyone [did] wanted, why cheap out on him ever before we found out what happened to the actual character? This doesn't even mention that hideous butt thing sticking way far out in the back from Tarn's actual back, or the knees not being able to move even 90 degrees or the hands that can't old a damn thing because the tolerances are too weak and they're poorly designed.
Fuck I was excited for this figure but it's got a lot of flaws MMC should really be correcting. It feels so rushed.

The canons are especially inaccurate to where they are supposed to be and the vehicle is just a mishmash of whatever when it's not that abstract of a form in the first place. Every other guy is pretty close to dead on, even the renders of the Helix, so I'm not sure what happened with Tarn.

I don't really have anything to say about that. Lot of figures have weird proportions due to transformation or design (Megatron's fuckhuge chest and legs that are damn near impossible to get right in toy form so far, Optimus' long-ass gorilla arms in tons of toys, etc).

MMC has a rep for at least attempting to solve articulation issues and make sure the basic ranges are ok.

And its the proportions and the length of the cannons. In the art they appear to be closer together with one being longer than the other and one positioned further back than the other. The toy has them spaced further apart with the large arm piece and they are around the same length. They don't have a cascading effect and it looks like they ripped off a turret and slapped it on their rather than a double barreled arm cannon.

I actually like the alt modes over the robots. Only real flaw in the alt modes is the robot hands hidden behind the dino ones.

All the same, I don't really like these a whole lot because they don't feel like they would blend in with the other Dinobots well. They are too small, too lithe, too rounded (and yeah, I get that they are playing up the feminine aspect of them, but it still doesn't work for me). I don't mind new Dinobots, in fact, I really like Planet X's Paddles, but that one fits in better (partly because it's a remold of Sludge, to be fair).

Aikos and Hypnos arrived today and they're great stuff. Aikos(Guyhawk) is incredible and I almost wish he wasn't this great as I just love to keep him in his robot form.

Overall I think I got lucky as both Bull and Horn have not once disassembled during posing. Same goes for the spear that came with Hypnos. The thigh ratchets on my Cerberus are super tight but the main problems are the knee connectors which are loose but can be fixed by the fan mode.

Everything else is rock solid aside from the clearance issues with the individual bots. I did stick some adhesive pads on the feet as I tend to display him on a glass surface.

Overall I think its a gamble with these figures in terms of quality. I'm really in love with Aikos its pretty much Hellbat with zero issues.

I don't own him myself but AFAIK he's very similar to RTS Laser Prime (not to KO levels but with very similar engineering). So essentially, imagine Laser Prime but with Maketoys quality plastic. I'd go for Striker Manus myself as even armoured up, the Laser Prime mold (and the Maketoys-original proxy) is kinda short due to being a deluxe.

It's cool. The new releases have the fix parts already installed. You will need to do some work with replacement parts included if you buy the giftset. It's highly recommend to get the SF kit for it so the cannon sits on the back better and twists with the torso. Plus you can leave the bottom bit on the back for scattorshot and the combiner so he doesn't look so thin. Stock Quantron had the cannon sit lower and lean back looking awkward if you weren't looking at him dead on.

Not as good as the combiner. The members as a group are extremely strong in vehicle mode and great in combined mode. Robot mode YMMV.

Strafe is the best easily and a good figure in his own right. Simple to transform and stylish in both modes.

Scattorshot has hand panels and a visible combiner head if you don't keep the bow on him. You can choose to keep the combiner feet on him but it looks tacky as fuck. Removing the bow with the shadow fisher kit on makes him fairly strong with part of cannon now as the backpack and the combiner head hidden.

I really like Nosecone but I think I'm in the minority. I love his vehicle mode and I really like the headsculpt complete with DBZ scouter, drill hands, under slung guns, and extra grabby hand gimmick. I arrange the kibble differently on his back to make it look like he has a jet pack thing. Transformation is a complete cluster fuck though. His buttflap is actually made up of two long and thin plastic hinges that explode the torso into a bunch of robo origami flips.


Weakest link for me is Lightspeed or Afterburner. Both have excellent vehicle modes but are let downs in bot mode. Light speed as weird as fuck legs and crappy arms and is a pain to transform. Afterburner is sort of a cluster fuck at the torso detailing and you never know quite what to do with the shoulders. The knees are blocked by the alt mode shell on his legs that you can move out of the way, but its still annoying.

If G1 Shockwaves are anything to go buy, you can grease the thing in a Vaseline coating to keep it hydrated and rubbery, saving it from cracking. You basically have to oil the thing down like hottoys products.

Out side of that, it really depends on the rubbery plastic they used. The AoE Dinobot plastic is already cracking and tearing from reports, hopefully it's better then that. I've heard people complaining about Slash's tail pin joint just tearing from transformation.

It makes one curious to what Takara has used for their Mindwipe and Batconvoy.

I'm really happy they kept the cockpit able to attach to the shoulder as a pauldron. It looks much more aesthetic as that than a giant gauntlet thing.

Honestly that was probably the easiest part. I'm guessing most TF designers LOVE when you can just do partsforming and not have people bitch because it's something the character did in a series or something.

Although you gotta question just what the fuck Overlord is made out of that he'd want to use his jet cone as a shield, and not say, some heavily armored tank part or something.
