That comparison is shitty, Nova is a tiny ML.

Figuarts paint jobs are leagues ahead of cry boy Superman

The entire line is undersized and doesn't fit in well with any other line at all.

They have not attempted to improve any of the articulation problems such as lack of thigh swivel, poor forward hip range, and the utterly useless ab hinge.

The line's essentially a failure.

oh geez, did i really trigger the fanboys so badly that the paint jobs use the same outdated 1960s technology?
As stated before, at least Superman has an actual paint job and only uses the dots for shading, unlike what you see on Figuarts where the entire thing face is printed on

>The entire line is undersized and doesn't fit in well with any other line at all.
They're 6" figures. Flash and Hal stand a little over, like they should.
Not DCC's fault Hasbro has been cheaping out and mostly use generic bodies that no longer scale with 1:12 characters.
>>
>>5865938
>No elf ears

>>
>>
So I wanted a highly articulated Harley Quinn but the DC Icons is looking a little too mannish with the giant torso. Is this accurate to something, or just bad?

And any other recommendations for a ~6 inch Harley would be appreciated
>>
>>5869095
I have her and she's decent. Sadly, I feel like she's the best 6-inch classic Harley made by far (which isn't saying much).

Personally, it's less that she looks mannish and more like her boobs are waaaay too big for her small frame (complaining about boobs, crazy I know) to the point that it ends up making the rest of her proportions look wonky. I mean just look at how big they look compared to the size of her head, and it just looks ridiculous.

As a comparison, they managed to utilize better proportions on their Arkham Knight classic Harley, but that one is in 7-inch scale and doesn't move nearly as much as the Icons figure.
>>
>>5869095

>>5869117

>>
>>5869095
>>5869454

I'm this anon >>5869108 and now I'm reminded of how she's drawn in stuff like Hush by Jim Lee and somehow the figure doesn't seem as exaggerated as I previously thought so thanks for pointing that out.
>>
>>5867534
>The entire line is undersized and doesn't fit in well with any other line at all.
This is factually wrong.

It's all the other American lines that are oversized.

This one is true 6" just like imports.
>>
>>5869874
>This one is true 6" just like imports.
This. I have some Icons displayed with my import figures and they fit in just fine. Size-wise they're around 15-16cm tall, which basically matches the same general height as most "adult male" figures you get from lines like Figuarts, Figma, or Mafex.

Figma Kiritsugu, Chogokin Gilgamesh, and the Avengers Figma/Figuarts immediately come into mind.
>>
>>5869874
>>5869917
In scale with imports, sure, but a big draw was "Fully articulated 6 inch DC characters" which is something that domestic figure collectors wanted. Not a lot of people were clamoring for DC characters that scaled with their anime figures.
>>
If there was a way to put the head, shoulders, and boobs of this Harley>>5869108 on the midsection and legs of this Harley>>5869095, then we'd finally have a great representation of the character.

Unfortunately, that's not the case, so I'd personally just settle for the Arkham Knight version since I just can't deal with the Icons version's tranny face and man shoulders.

But MLs don't even fit with other MLs.

Just look how wildly inconsistent they are, even with only just Hasbro's ML line. The previous ML series by Toy Biz kept the same sizes, but only because they used the appropriate bodies and created more tooling for their figures, unlike Hasbro reusing reused retools.

You already have Mattel's various DC lines for that, most of which are fine anyway and even still hold some of the best figures of certain DC characters. Besides, there's enough import figures of Western properties for the Icons to fit in with as well, so I don't see why this is such a problem.

Honestly, superman is a good stand alone character, when you have someone with the guts to use him to fight for the common person.

He sucks when used as a way to "we fucked up and can't get out of this... SUPERMAN SAVED THEM ALL." Like building to a climactic end and then cutting to them after escaping the end with a comment of "that was close, wasn't it?"

Your audience, even at pubescent ages, knows better, treat them that way and give us superman's viewpoint, amd it works, give us the terrified mob mentality viewpoint and you get a bad superman that is best off as a tyrannical alien enemy of the intelligent. (And because writing heroics for lex while still keeping him a villian is hard, batsy takes the role.)

>Certainly not the articulation.
?
It's one of the highest articulated standard bodies from current lines out there.

But what makes a Mezco one:12 scale figure so expensive is because it's a doll and stitching dollie clothes together is pretty expensive compared to just molding it on, especially when it's higher quality than your typical Barbieshit. So it's an extra complex step when it comes to producing this figure.

Also, that metal they're using for the spear is basically an epoxy resin, which is costly and involves more work than simple casting. It's basically an overpriced paperweight replica you see out there. It's a cold casting production that you see with most statueshit out there.

As for the metal armor, it's likely just a higher quality metal than diecast crap and that involves higher temperatures, so even the production method is more expensive.

So Mezco is giving you your money's worth with their figures and the cost of production correlates with their pricing.

Dude, I'm not talking about "standard bodies", I'm talking about this figure, which as every decent review has pointed out; has limited articulation. Mostly due to how overkill Mezco is swathing it in tight fabric and metal. If that is your thing fine, but I'm betting Mafex will have better range.

As for "real" metal vs diecast, I don't think there is a functional difference on a 6 inch toy figure.

For Mafex Batman, I had no problems with his torso/ab/waist joints (works pretty smoothly).

Generally speaking, I actually had no problems with him except maybe his hip joints being slightly tighter than I'd like it. Problem was, after a couple of days, I noticed that his hip joints felt even tighter for some reason and the creaking sounds started getting louder.

This scared the fuck out of me because I've never had a Mafex figure do this to me (usually the hips tend to pop off if I strain them too much which would have been fine and easy to put back in). I looked underneath his hip joints and I noticed how constricted the joint's socket looked compared to past Mafex figures. This must have been why a lot of ham-handed collectors wrecked this figure when posing him around since you have to be really careful with handling him. It didn't help that the edges of the sockets were so sharp that if you were to blindly twist at the hips at the wrong angle you could easily snap the ball from the joint.

Being the customfag that I am, I tried dabbing his hip joints with baby's oil and that helped to smoothen out the tightness of the joint (I also shaved off some of the balljoint inside which helped a ton). For added safety, I also trimmed the sharp edges of the hip's socket with an X-acto knife so they have less likely chances of slicing/snapping off the joint. The key here is that you ought almost have to treat Batman (and Superman's) hip joints almost as Y-joints (due to the sculpt of the crotch) so you have less risk of shredding the joint inside.

In terms of pure functionality, it kinda annoys me how he can't stretch out his arms completely. It's not terrible but the fact that Superman has the same engineering while actually being able to stretch out his arms properly leads me to think that they might have fucked up Batman's shoulder joint engineering (maybe the joint is too short or his shoulder sculpt being way too big inside compared to Superman's which moves freely).

Fuck this picture is tempting as fuck.

I was most excited for Superman but in true superman fashion his merchandise sucks compared to Batman's
>>
>>5894745
Sounds scary...perhaps I'll consult /toy/ if I notice something similar. I've never purchased a high-end figure, so I'm not sure what it entails, generally. It's good to know that there are remedies for these kind of things.

Comparison pic with some DC figures I had lying around (pardon the blurry pics, I just took these ones really quickly).

>>5894765
Superman isn't nearly as bad some people are making him out to be but yeah I'd hold off for now with the amount flaws he has.

>>5894767
Haha thanks! As for the hips, it's annoying as hell that I had to mod it at all but afterwards I'll admit that I'm pretty happy with the figure.

Last one for now. So yeah, nice figure overall but very high maintenance. I'm sad to say that second part because the sculpt/paint and general integration of the joints are pretty GOAT but I fear that integral joints like the hips have inherent flaws with regards to the figure's joint/sculpt construction. Basically not quite Figuarts or Figma level of consistent QC yet unfortunately.

Still it's a good figure but I can't say it's the definitive 1/12 or 6-inch Batfleck. If it had better QC and joint construction it definitely would have been though. Still I'll be damned if I didn't say that it's fun to pose and how it just looks so damn good alongside other figures.

I'm still looking forward to Mezco's take but I'm personally annoyed at how Batman's abs just blend right into the cloth and how the fabric tends to smooth out his musculature (we might have better luck if they make his Justice League suit with the sticthed-on abs). Personally, I feel that DCC's Batman could turn out to be a sleeper hit given their recent offerings. Icons and their TV series lines have proven that they can actually get their shit together and the BvS figures seem to have even more articulation than the two lines I mentioned. Only downside I can foresee for some is that it will be in 7-inch scale unless I'm mistaken.

As far as predictions go for future vanilla Batflecks, I have a feeling that Mezco's might be the one that would be most "fun" to play with while DCC's could potentially be the most solid execution-wise if they don't pull their punches. It's a shame that the Mafex couldn't completely hit it out of the park though, because it's really close and so far I'd say it has the best look overall (not counting DCC's digital prototype of course).

can Mafex Batman be posed like this?
>>
>>5894745
JESUS FUCK MAFEX

You have the most aesthetic looking Batman action figure design and just went half measured with the QC.
>>
>>5895030
I posed my friend's very similarly to this the other day.

The wired cape is amazing.
>>
>>5895030
Very easily. As you can see here >>5894760 and here >>5894800 that he has the range of motion to pull it off.

>>5895040
It's really frustrating because at its core, it's actually such a great figure and I feel that they nailed the Batfleck suit perfectly more than any other company that has tried so far. It's just the QC is so all over the place that I can't easily recommend him unless you're a hardcore collector.

I mean it's still an amazing figure but it's ridiculous how I had to mod my figure just to make sure it doesn't fall apart on me. And I say this as someone who owns multiple Mafex figures (TDK Batman, Joker, Bank Robber Joker, Vader).
>>
>>5894800
Does your Batman have a glossy streak across his forehead? Every one I've seen so far has had it.
>>
>>5895040
>>5895068

I'm not seeing what the qc issues are other than "the hips are tight".

Lots of other anons on this board own him and I haven't seen one breakage reported in these DC threads.

That glossy streak is probably from the head rubbing against the packaging.
It probably doesn't look bad in person, since photos will make certain things stand out that are difficult to see or aren't noticeable in person.

I mostly have high hopes because I don't like any of her other figures. If this one sucks too I'll just get the DC Superhero Girls one.
>>
>>5896449
I haven't read Batman since I think the 80s, is this Barbara or someone else?
>>
>>5896449
I just want Steph, Cass, and Classic Black suit babs in this line, too.
>>
>>5896335
That's fair enough. Maybe I'm just too paranoid after the initial Japanese pics. Still, modding those hip joints to such lengths, which I've never had to do with past Mafex releases, is not something I'd take lightly.

I should mention that in my case, it's not that I'm saying it's bad, if anything I actually really like the figure. While I modded mine to fix up the tight hips, you can pretty much add me on the list of people with no breakage issues.

>>5895901
>>5896371
Mine did. It's not that bothersome in person, but you can easily drybrush a bit of flat black paint on it and you wouldn't even notice the difference.

No listing so far, seems to mostly be a sausage fest so far with the DC Icons, was hoping for more female characters but still. Decent line so far I guess aside from the biggest failure... Superman.... Those eye paint jobs were terrible.

I really can't imagine it being that big of a problem for me personally. I don't even think it looks THAT bad in the picture. I guess we'll see when mine finally arrives. It will my first Icons fig.

Thanks, I'm surprised that anyone even noticed with that blurry shot. But yeah, basically repainted his eyes red. I also tried to give it a bit of a glow by using a tinge of fleshy orange since the flat red looked too dull under normal lighting.
