Since /rail/ is slow as hell, I might as well ask this here.
So, I bought this lovely thing at a German store for 30 euros. It's labelled as a 23014 locomotive from Marklin, it's marked as "Made in Western Berlin" and therefore it's probably more than two decades old and that's as much as I know about it. Can any rail nerds tell me about what specific locomotive is this based on?
Also, train replicas general? Any scale and style allowed, from Brio and Plarail to N and HO.

Ayyyy, literally all results I found were only pertaining to the toy rather than the actual loco. Thanks anon, looks sick as hell.
Well

>Thomas Plarail
Oh man, the nostalgia. I remember going to London when I was a kid and seeing those things for the first time, they were sooo much cooler than Brio for some reason.
Anyone here owns the Virgin train? It was the shit, for some reason it became my favorite in the entire collection.
I keep checking out Hornby products and then get sad because they take up so much room to display, and they are super pricey now.

>looking through Hornby / Marklin / Trix / etc. catalogues
>tfw you realize you will never be able to afford everything in there
>tfw, even if you could afford it, you still would never have enough time and space to properly display and take care of them
>tfw you barely have the space to make an N-scale layout and a HO one is totally out of the question
>you'll never have Postwar Lionel.
>why live

Am I lucky?
>>5871113
I mean, you're average, I guess.
You can buy that on eBay for nothing lol. Still cool, tho!
>>5872319
I got it from my dad's friend, along with some Marx stuff.
Did any of you ever have these as a kid?
>>5872847
Fuck yes I did. My younger brothers had GeoTrax as well. Built some awesome rail lines with those things.
I'm just going to leave this here.

Thomas train toys are so annoying. My kid nephew keeps getting gifted its toys but they are all different brands/scales/track design. You can just see his heart break when he finds out that his new toy can't link up with the others. Why can't America switch to the metric system?
>>5872909
What the fuck is that supposed to be?
>>5877143
Mattel's attempt to grab the attention of small children.
>>5872847
Holy shit, I remember having this.
>>5865283
Just look at the sides of the cabin.
BR23 steam locomotive from the Deuctsche bundesbahn, good price for a marklin classic.
is the AH or HAMO model?
>>5866721
Second hand markets bro, second hand.
And if you are half skilled repairing them even cheaper.
I came across a train collection can anyone tell me how much the whole set cost?

I'm a bit confused by the M-Track switch by Märklin.
It's not gonna be cheap, but Märklin would be even 1.3 times more expensive.
I'd bargain from 800-1000 bucks up and expect 3-5 thousand offer.
The brown tin one with old looking dollies in top left looks really old, the seller MIGHT not notice, how expensive that one is.
The thing is, some carriages are expensive complete sets, while others seem to originate from starter kits.
A serious argument for price drop would be the lack of original packages, too.
Ask for trains and carriages only, first, then offer a raise for the magazines and tracks.
>>5891218
As they seem well played, look for wear, scratches and broken-off parts.
Ask for test drive of the locomotives and hear whether they sound "loose"
If you buy Trix/Märklin carriages for your DC railroad, you may need to change wheel pairs as the Märklin ones will short the rails out, as they aren't insulated.

roco/trix/fleischmann : expensive is smooth and with original package, even 100€.
Lima/Rivarrossi : 50 if good looking box also.
Chinese unknown brands: 30 at most and if rare.
carriages: 15-25 if flawless with orignal package.
7-10 if not.

Here's a thought. What was your favorite toy train set from your childhood?
Hard Mode: No Thomas or Brio trains.

Are locomotives a good long-term investment? My stepfather has regretted he hasn't bought more DDR Pico trains on his business trips when the Wall still stood, as they were really cheap back compared to now.
I have a feeling that it's on the low now. Some suggested i should join the Märklin Club for exclusives, but i'm not earning that much right now.
Is BR 403 perhaps worth buying?
>>5892690
Did anyone else have this or am I just old? I also had the smaller set that was smaller loop.
>>5892690
Lionel?
>>5893459
ahh i had one but it was secondhand and missing a lot of track. i used to play with diecast Thomas trains on it
>>5893459
I didn't even know this existed until I saw the commercial for it. Too bad the Iron Horse set is so rare.
>>5894018
You had Lionel O gauge as a little kid?
>>5895265
Didn't everyone? Yeah, of course!
my grandma give me a plastic made in china of these, i was so happy, but i will never have a real, so now im sad...
>>5895884
This was the closest thing to Lionel I ever had as a kid(aside from TrainTown).
>>5866721
You can torrent all the DLC for train simulators :-)
>>5900922
Oh shit.... I'm sorry to hear that.
Pic related was my first Lionel set. After that, my dad and i just started going to a model train show once a year to buy one or two items.
It's a small collection that's ran during the holidays under the tree, but it's pretty good.
>>5901781
Don't be. My house wasn't big enough to fit one, anyway.
>>5892824
I only buy to play them so i cant answer that, from what i see you can make money with high end or rare brands (made in EU always).
But you will always need to find the right buyer.
>>5908081
That's so cool, N scale i suppose.
How did we go from this...
>>5908521
...to this?
