Heads up, Amazon seems to have TR Soundwave available (sort of, he's out of stock, but you can buy it now and they'll send it when available).

I've enjoyed him so far. Starship mode feels fanmode-tier and I thought I was gonna break something when I first untabbed the shoulders, but he's cool. I keep the mask tucked away, though.

How much is shipping for shapeways? Does it get much higher if you order multiple tiny pieces?

PMOP is a pretty naff base mode by himself, but combined with Sentinel (and 1-2 deluxes to connect to the 'bridges') it's pretty excellent.

If you're interested in Scorn I'd suggest you buy a few or all of the other dinobots. They look great as an unit and don't really match the aesthetics of other TFs, not even movieverse ones. Fruity or all black up to you, though the hasbro fruity ones should be extremely cheap right now.

...Unless you have an aversion to rubbery parts and gorilla arms, if so you should just avoid them all.

I can melt plastic on them with my dremel a little bit.

But I mean like the hard plastic gets soft and rubbery when heated up, not liquify it of course.

I took a photo of PMOP in robot mode.

It's a pretty satisfying robot, all blocky and stuff. You just have to be careful when posing the legs: The pieces that go together to form the lower legs come untabbed fairly easily.

Not "fall apart if you breathe on it" easily though. You can still pick it up and handle it and set it down without them separating.

Oh, also highbrow is pretty great. The scourge mold was probably my favorite from the first wave, and this is a pretty nice reuse of the same transformation scheme but with actually appealing colors now. It even does the hot spot>onslaught trick of flipping the whole thing around. The headmaster socket still sucks though.
>>
>>5865421
>I took a photo of PMOP in robot mode.
We know, you've posted it like 4 threads in a row.

So I've been looking at Doublecross and I think he's actually based on Mindwipe, but with new limbs.
The clear plastic on a torso, plus the general mobility of his arms and legs (unusual for a deluxe) suggests to me that they said "hey, let's remold this torso and stick new arms and legs. Transformation is like 90% there"
It does some pretty interesting things, and considering hardhead is likely to be extremely retooled, and how highbrow was a nearly unrecognizable retool of scourge (and how if we didn't have Brainstorm, Triggerhappy would be an unrecognizable retool of blurr) I think we're going to see a perceptor retool of hardhead that goes extreme.

I'm not even sure they count as retools so much as parts-swapping.
>>
>>5865423

Way too many problems. Hasui really didn't think the rotor problems through, which is surprising. And Scourge has the benefit of having the bits to fill in the gaps at the legs.

>So I've been looking at Doublecross and I think he's actually based on Mindwipe, but with new limb

does anyone else think that Arcee would work well from a retooled Blurr? Give her a different shield and new forearms and I think she would come out quite well. Would also allow for a Daniel Titan Master who could then ride in Wheelie.

Sentinel Turret kinda works
>>
>>5865547
I can definitely see where you're going with this, but ultimately I don't think it'll work.
the car mode would require a rather shortened front end, which would make for a bit of an odd shaped shield, and the thrusters on the legs would look a bit odd, since she should have bigger thighs as a female than calves.
Then there's the problem of what to do about the chest.

I think the hot rod mold will lend itself better, as his spoiler can be removed and the back fenders be connected to create the arcee backpack style.

>>
>>5865543
>>5865556
No, I meant the print looks grainy as shit even in frosted ultra detail.
>>
>>5865553
And there you have Mindwipe's wing-legs being different from how the legs forms in Doublecross (from the lower body) as well as the whole bat head being a backpack in Mindwipe. The same goes for the leg-arms on mindwipe and the two head arms in Doublebcross. Some similarity in concept, but none at all in engineering.

Other than the cockpit in the chest the similarities are just not there.
>>
>>5865586

>>
>>5865605
Maybe you don't get what a remold is vs a repaint or a retool
A remold means that the same functional piece is taken and sculpted differently.

In this case, all the joints are the same, plus thighs, and then while the look of the arms have changed, they're functionally still the same (even with hollows in the same place, same elbow joints too)
The chest even fits in the same overall shape.
The amount of plastic used is nearly identical, and you can literally swap every part and they'd still work.
The only piece that's truly a retool instead of a remold is the legs, where on scourge they have to fold out, but highbrow doesn't.

No, he's sturdy and tight as hell; the flimsy accusations comes from sudden breakages people have reported than anything beforehand. Because of that my heart skips a beat anytime I move his arms. If it breaks, it'll do so without warning.

Hardhead overall is a bit underwhelming, but I love actually fiddling with it. Some sort of torso/waist articulation and ankles would have gone a long way. Still, this is a good era for TFs, budget cuts aside.

You have to be being difficult to think Hasbro's looks nothing like he original. You can totally tell what's analogous to the original toy head. There's some differences in proportions, but its recognizable. Biggest change is making the bottom sides of the helmet bigger and more angular, but that seems like it was done to fit in with the general pointiness of the design and maybe differentiate it from the similar look on Hardhead's

Unpainted visor bridge is still ugly, though.

Seriously, if you're pitching a fit about the heads not matching 1:1, why are you even collecting Classics? We get a handful of faithful updates and the rest are stylized modernizations. Even if you went with superior takara for all those past figures, they didn't go as far to resculpt all those heads back then. The takara heads may look show accurate, but I don't really need that in Classics. For that, I'll spring for 3P MP or wait for MP to get to Headmasters(in 15 years)
>>
>>5865819
>If it breaks, it'll do so without warning.
Yikes. Thanks, I think I'll save $300 on this one.
>>
>>5865897
This head is like funpub tier. Shame. I loved Sunstreaker.
>>
>>5865902
Yeah, it's a beautiful toy, better than even SoC Gaogaigar or Gunbuster, my other two favorite Transforming/combining figures. But while it hasn't given me any trouble so far, that fact hanging over my head makes me unable to really recommend it to anyone.
>>
>>5865884
>You can totally tell what's analogous to the original toy head

Except it's not. The original head doesn't have an oversized ugly nose. The original head doesn't have an ugly as fuck mouth. The original head doesn't have greebleshit all over its helmet. Paint the Takara visor black and it's far more accurate than the Hasbro one ever will be.

>>5865897
REEDUN isn't an excuse for things to look worse. I'm getting tired of this argument.
>>
>>5865959

Things will look how they look. You've no influence on it at all anyway besides your wallet. Buy what you like, and be happy with it.
>>
>>5865959
>The original head doesn't have an oversized ugly nose.

That seems like a bad deco decision. Not going to defend that, it looks bad, but that's an issue with the deco, not the sculpt, so it's salvageable.

>The original head doesn't have an ugly as fuck mouth.

The Hasbro's are a bit too defined, but it's within reason. The original has pronounced lips, too. It was probably meant to look more Superrobot/Sentai-ish than Hasbro's, but tis still within reason

>The original head doesn't have greebleshit all over its helmet.

It totally does, though. the new one has some more intricate details, but it's not an 80's toy so of course it's not as limited to what can be put o it.

>Paint the Takara visor black and it's far more accurate than the Hasbro one ever will be.

Takara's gets rid of the cool angular shades, and while you sperg about greebles, losing all the greebles just makes it less accurate. It would work, but it'd end up looking simpler, which is a bit weird for a new toy compared to an old one.
>>
>>5865886
So that means every Optimus Prime ever is G1 Prime since the headsculpt is always based off that original?

So? The focus is on the word "generic".
>>
>>5865959
>REEDUN isn't an excuse for things to look worse. I'm getting tired of this argument.

But that's what Generations is is. You have MP if you want the ultra faithful one. Its like complaining about the Alternators stuff taking liberty with designs; well, they weren't meant to be based on something 100%.

The usual argument is "well, MOTU Classics/ GI Joe Classics/DCUClassics are all based on the original designs"; well, the difference is this line is still alive and still can be bought at retail. And its barely officially "classics"; that name was only used in concept stages, and in smaller aspects like bylines of Universe 2.0, and some fanclub/Botcon stuff.
>>
>>5865993
I for one agree with you, I love most of it, updated designs are fun. Sure some of the early years are rough but right now we're good. Don't like Reedun? Don't buy it. Shut up, don't buy it.
>>
>>5865586
Frosted ultra isn't nearly near the level of grainyness as the other materials. It's not even grainy, it's just the printlines across the pieces. I've hated Shapeways for years since the other materials were trash and felt satisfied with the frosted ultra detail. I wouldn't use it for faces and heads, though.
>>
>>5865984

>>
>>5866153
What?

The idea is using G2 Dead End, which is mostly red. Combine with using a BH Brakedown head. You have a mostly accurate Breakdown right there. Personally, I'd be painting a few details from there. I think my original plan did require use of a regular Dead End for parts on this but I'm drunk and can't remember. Even some the biggest obstacle is getting a G2 Menasor set and selling off the other guys for parts. At least Dragstrip can be repurposed into Decepticharge.

Toys in CW and TR are made in Vietnam. Your retired veteran Grandpa may regard you as a traitorous socialist bastard if you support the toys. When asked why he still holds so much angst, he'll finally reveal that your Grandmother was actually a Vietnamese prostitute he fell in love with. So I got the alpha trion, I was hoping to see astrotrain in hand but the fact the tf section was swarming with kids meant I had to rush to grab this guy, there was a man and his kid there and I saw 2 voyager boxes, someone shoved the last alpha trion all the way behind a stack of falling peg stuff so I just went in and yanked it out while the kid was distracted by the 6 armada megatrons.

Anyway the point of this post was to demonstrate the lion mode of alpha trion's lion mode, its shit, the forarms can swivel but its kinda basic so a standing lion is the best you'll get while the legs are move a great deal as demonstrated.

I also hate the head spring gimmick, I fear that'll break after sometime, my galvatron's can't pop up on its own anymore and his may require manual force one day

Don't mind sideswipe, though I gotta say he was move involved than alpha trion, took 2 minutes blind to work out alpha trion's modes but he took another 20 blind (never was able to grasp box instructions either), quite pleased.

Jokes aside (though that did happen) something seems off from her, either she's reading a script or she has to stop and think constantly (I suspect the former, and her reading ability is implied to be slow which is a worry if that is the case).

I think people only watch because she's an aussie collector/grill in general, I hate to say this but optibotimus's 20min views on a deluxe end up coming across better than her stuff, and that isn't good.

But really, any licks of paint counts as lavish, they almost don't need it and not for playability/paint rubs sake, but because they're tiny as it is

Brit fag here

I hate to rag on our own convention but TFnation is this weekend, I have been here over a day and it's one of the most poorly run conventions I have been too.

Many of the dealers still don't have tables due to poor "dealer map planning" according to some trans looking dude/gal, the dealer room itself is small and the panels are boring looking.

At least the guest list is not bad.

Might just go to SDCC next year instead
>>
>>5866494
This is the first TFNation, isn't it? Do any of the staff have credentials from AA or other cons? It might just be a case of inexperience. Hopefully they'd turn it around next year.

Let the speculation commence.

Truthfully, hasbro astrotrain LOOKS great, that black edge he has helps him pop, sadly though since his shuttle mode ain't quite working with the white I went takara version, problem is no one knows what it looks like exactly.

So, I wish to request some speculation on his colors, granted I don't expect the same black edges on tak's version like hasbro has (if they did it would help immensely), but what else could they use?

>colored cockpit window:yellow
>train wheels:silver
>train cow catcher:silver
>shuttle front feet:purple at the tips to replicate show shuttle front
>turrets:gun metal/silver/purple
>wings:either purple border on grey or all purple depending on which animation error was most consistent

Has anyone digibashed astrotrain yet other than just making him all grey?

Because these accents would help him pop even if he ends up being a grey slab like the tiny pic related (only pic I could find with all of him in the shot, resolution is unchanged so I used some HD shit to fill in)

Also I said "looks" great because of all this talk of qc issues, I am worried about how takara's will go but time shall tell.

I've been holding myself back on getting sentinel because the molds are just about the same and now I got bat convoy's head to use in his abscence, but I hope to the high heaven's astrotrain doesn't dissapoint (namely because I pre-ordered the takara one in advance...yes I'm an idiot but it was my intention from the start of the first leaks)

?

Dunno where baltmatrix got his but I'm only aware Australia/asia have wave 2 voyagers and leaders.

I just want apeface and that's it, the sadpart is in Australia most stores apart from tru and kmart only had a sputter of wave 1 next thing BAM wave 2 soundwave in retail before wave1 blaster, and wave 2 soundwave was only in limited quanities in a shitty toy chain store in one state while blaster popped up later in tru.

With galvatron and sentinel exclusive to kmart while wave 2 voyagers appearing in both tru and kmart, currently headmasters and deluxes tru only/some toy world stores.

I'm confused as to what's going on in Australia since we got fort max first as well

>>
>>5866597
That's the trouble with G1 cartoon accuracy. You have to pick which part of the cartoon to use.

On a related note, is the green on the Hasbro one coming from anything? I can't see anything green on any version of him. For that matter, I don't see a blue window on him anywhere either. I imagine it's a case that the same sprue is used for the eyes and windows, so they went with blue on Takara for that. Either way, I would have been fine with a clear or white window and just painting the eyes.
>>
>>5866559
>I'm confused as to what's going on in Australia since we got fort max first as well

Probably because you are closer to where the actual factories are located which is probably somewhere in Southeast Asia so the shipping time from there to your ports and then to distribution and then to stories is less. The pattern is pretty consistent here since the first sightings of Wave 2 Voy appeared in Singapore and Malayasia followed by Philippines and now Australia.
>>
>>5866614
The blue is a tampo/paint app, its actually to replicate a scene where his chest panels are glowing.

>>5866597
I didn't really like how they made afterburner red, initially, but I guess it's a little more forgivable since it's a different shade of red compared to all the other components.

I'll give you gunpla noob paint tips so you can avoid pulling the head apart, you may choose not to follow.

>mask using sticky tack

Just smother nearby sections in the stuff, paint, let dry, then peel off after 24 hours, topcoat using clear lacquer spray for maximum, protection, USE LIGHT PASSES so they spray isn't gonna risk affecting plastic strength, MAKE SURE ITS GLOSS or the clear plastic will fog up.

There you go, as for painting the bit you can either use spray can or brush, you may thin your paints but for a first timer brush strokes will show, where's...

If you clog the brush with paint and slop it in the blob of paint would dry glossy which is what professional painters try to avoid as it comes out thick, but being clear it won't be too much of an issue unless you pour the jar in, because of how sloppy this method is its not the preferred method, pic related shows the example of literally blobbing in paint (the purple parts are the best example, got lazy masking those plus if you look hard enough some of the red ran off the eyes, yes this is hasbro's nucleon head)
>>
>>5866645

Sorry for the late reply, timezone difference here

2 of them were former AA people, it's just been one piece of major drama after another, I think the dealers have suffered the most due to having no tables for them and overbooking the dealer room (which is really tiny to begin with, even for local toy shows)

The panels were super bland and the guest list while pretty full is not anyone exclusive to Botcon or TransformersCons that I have done in the past.

Tomorrow will be the last chance for them but today we walk away from a show that is a solid 4 out of 10 right now. Makes Botcon look like a well oiled machine of a show

Botcon only sucks to people who never went

Being from the UK I have done the "holy trinity" of Botcon, Tfcon and Auto Assembly.

Botcon will always be the bigger and better show and it's management is no more gobsmacked then that of Auto Assembly. Tfcon still seems to have a solid crew of people and it's more fun due to it feeling like an early Botcon 2000-2004 before movie and 80s interest came into being

But yes TFnation is now at the bottom of all of that. It was a damp squib on all levels
