I've been told it was his way of getting back at Weekly Shonen Jump, along with the rest of it. He took way too long on this arc so they cut it short, basically told him he had five chapters to end it or they were just going to cut him off. He had the big bad killed in literally two pages, right as the fight was truly beginning.

It's amazing. I've never seen a bigger trainwreck in any manga ever. Dude has to be suicidal right now.
