Those mechanical construction kits were my entire life when I was a kid.
I was recently thrilled to discover they never discontinued and that a whole new range of products is available.
In this thread, post your meccanos, projects, discuss new kits, vehicles, ...
Shameless self-bump :^)
I always wanted to try this shit as a kid

I guess those kits are not really known outside of France but it's happened to have a US counterpart : Erector.
The ideas for Meccano were first conceived by Hornby in 1898 and he developed and patented the construction kit as "Mechanics Made Easy" in 1901. The name was later changed to "Meccano" and manufactured by the British company, Meccano Ltd, between 1908 and 1980.
It is now manufactured in France and China by Meccano S.N. of France, part of the Canadian Spin Master toy company. In the United States, a competitive toy with a similar play pattern was launched in 1913 under the Erector Set brand.
Infos I've got from the EN wikipedia.
holy shitcakes I would have been in heaven as a kid if I had this. I spent a few formative years trying to amalgamate basic motor and light circuits with lego structures and tape using cogs and gears stripped out of cheap toys
it was shit compared to what this could have yielded...
