You always have to think about your readers or who you are trying to write to. Written words are usually lacking the right emotion you want to convey for the most part and if you write how you think will only deter people from try to agree with you especially the way you're writing it. You have to refine how to write because as a writer if you use big words even if you're not trying to insult somebody it will look like you are insulting their intelligence and nobody likes getting insulted unless maybe they're into that.

You have to lessen the use the use of big words when it is not appropriate because it really looks condescending to people you are trying to talk to especially if you do not want to offend them. I was the same before my first full time job outside college where I just wrote what I thought of without thinking who I am talking to. I got a stern talking to by my boss cause I was using slangs and big words when I should be using simple yet effective words. And you really need to be careful since you do live in Asia and they are really sticklers on how you talk to your superiors. Here like I said I was tactless if you so choose to call it and I got hit with a rude awakening that people still do care how you talk to them even if you're in a casual setting.
