How do i remove this coat of shit gold paint!

Recently bought what i thought was a gold KingKen from a comic shop that knew nothing about it.
its been painted gold, badly, in what looks like acrylic, Can i wash it off but leave the underneath as was?

Spray a bit with simple green and wipe.
