I think Overlord might be a remolded Triggerhappy and a remolded Hardhead.

Anyway, I don't think Primal's low rank is die to a lack of popularity, its more likely people just thought his last updated toy was fine as is. Primal gets toys fairly regularly in Japan; the Robot Master, the BWX remold, the Cybertron deluxe, and recently the rerelease of the BWX remold. Meanwhile, the other characters have barely gotten any updates in the decade; and the top 4 all had bricks for figures.

Of course, funny thing is Fort Max, Primal, and Ginrai all have new toys this year, while Armada Optimus has nothing yet.

Confirm, popularity?

I thought it was popular, I was really into it along with the Brave series, Microman, Gundams and Super Sentai (see a pattern?). So I was the natural target for it. Might not be part of the common people.

I don't really remember others who were buying the toys. Everyone in my circle were into Pokemon and DB and other Jump titles. And video games, I wasn't that into those.

The tone was much lighter, everyone had some kind of speech quirk or running gags, and had a pretty big name VA cast.

Many dialogues were ad lib by the VA. Broke forth wall at times too.

I was reading Comic BomBom so naturally I kept going with II and Neo. Thought they were not as good compared to CGI BW. Which by the way ended with Primal crushing into the moon, so I was very confused, Then they did the Metals movie and I was more confused to why this wasn't on TV anymore.

Anyways, I think it stuck in the minds of much more hardcore fans than to the general public.

Apparently kids who grew up reading Comic BomBom are, well, on the stronger side of otaku culture.

Hardly any design cues or shapes on the originals carry over. Mindwipe has the same detailing on his mouth. I suppose the visor is basically the same thing. None of the helmet cue are present on the new one at all, not even slightly. Weirdwolf has the same visor, and a similar vent on the forehead. Some of the shapes on the corners of the helmet and side are vaguely similar, but sorta not really. Skullcruncher has absolutely zero design cues carried over. THe helmet is totally different, the visor is different, even the face is different. I mean, I guess they both have noses, there's that. But it's completely different.

That's not a chinstrap, it's just a goatee thing that lots of robots have as part of their design. The grey on the bottom of the face is just the paint mask ending at the edge of the face.
