I'm down with the new team, I just didn't think the toys looked very good, especially for the asking price. Well, except for Mayhem. Mayhem fucking rocks!! One look at his sculpt and I got instant flashbacks to Kenner's Aliens line. Look at the hands, the feet, the ribcage!! It's either the same damn sculptor or a REALLY good lookalike.

I think this is mostly just Matty being dumb. The merchandise will probably start beginning to move once people have a chance to see the movie, but Matty was delusional to think that a controversial revival of an 80s comedy would be able to push huge quantities of merchandise on brand power alone a la Star Wars.

I think mattel overshot the marketability of "Ghostbusters" as a brand-- the only reson ninja turtles is back and success ful is because it has a new show attached-- Ghostbusters hasn't had a a tv show since what, 1997? no kid is gonna want a ghostbuster, cause they don't know what the fuck it is-- now they may after the movie-- but fuck them for not timing their merchandise right-- ad it burns my ucking nuts to see the mattycollector figures i bought being sold for 19.99 at walmart--
>>
>>5787105
Doesn't help that the only real figures you can get are the 20 dollar regular team and just two ghosts.

Nobody is going to drop serious money on these and just pick up the classics instead. Little kids might like ghostbusters but a parent isn't going to drop 20 dollars for 1 and the movie isn't even out yet in the US to get hyped to own a figure.

Not my fault they haven't made good Ghostbusters toys since I was a small child.

Also, while I like their looks and stuff, I ain't getting a toy of a movie I haven't seen yet. I learned that lesson with Independence Day.

Just because you put The Exorcist in the the kids section of a video stores doesn't make it a kids film.
>>
>>5788701
Except its not like if someone moved it from another spot; its been classified as a comedy everywhere since its inception.

What would you call it, an action film? Horror? It has elements of both, but its primarily a comedy film
>>
>>5788717
It's one of those odd movies that doesn't fit neatly into most genres.
>>
>>5786800

Considering the cast, its easiest to see it as a comedy.

>>

>lego friends controversy
what? I don't lego, mind explaining?
>>
>>5789033
Femnists thought lego friends was extremely sexist despite lego doing years of research to find out what appeals to girls, due to the fact that girls werent as interested in lego as much as boys.

Anita Sarkeesian made a video about it, and this was YEARS before she started talking about video games.

I'll confess the excess fingers and toes are a bit off-putting too, but the fact that it's a GB ghost-creature kinda waives that detail if you think about how weird some others looked in the franchise's history (especially GB Extreme in the late 90s/early 00's).

I'll get Mayhem just as a generic ritual-summon creature for displays.

You know, these are probably going to end up being plastic gold twenty or thirty years down the line, especially if the ballbusters here never ever appear in media forms again or get any newer figures of them.

Boy, I'm glad I picked up all those Battlefield Earth toys when they went on clearance 15 years ago! Their prices on the secondary market is so high, I can finally retire early after I sell my collection!

Who'd knew that a toyline based on a bad movie would be worth so much 16 years later?
>>
>>5798210
battlefield earth has nothing established, ghostbusters does, there is a good chance that they would not drop in price beyond the discounts already seen, and the movie is reviewed with plenty of "eh, it was ok i guess." which is a vast improvement from the pre-release hate, so, it's got a chance, especially as SNL cast members.

so like, rudd and dave are funny. I've always thought pratt was the best part of parks and rec(as a hoosier I stuck with it from season 1 out of hopefully getting better and was shocked it did.) Plaza would make a good receptionist... again. Sanberg? He's super hit or miss Crews? Merchant would be a great choice.

Rogen/jonah/cera/facebook/franco/and crew are all the worst. Tatum is alright I guess.

It could have been worse. Could have been a Sandler movie. Or jack black.

Why do I want to put keanu in a ghost buster film?

Why do I think it would be hilarious for all the characters to be played by the most serious, unfunny actors of all time. Daniel Craig, christian bale, liam neeson, and fassbender
>>
>Excluding marketing and similar costs, the movie has only made about 1/3 of its budget back on its opening weekend.
>Despite the heavy marketing push the past month and being billed as the big summer blockbuster, it lost in the box office to a kids movie that's already been out for a week.
>Ticket sales typically drop around 40% each week following release.
>The movie is banned from Chinese theatres, which is by far the largest international market.

The shillers and haters can both go home now, the movie is dead.
>>
>>5798248
>a Sandler movie. Or jack black.
You shut your whore mouth.

Cera would be okay as a Tully type character, and Plaza would have made an excellent Janine.

>>

how hilarious would it be if they did it like Darth Vader, where that actress provides the voice but when the helmet comes off she's actually a pretty woman?
>>
>People going to see the movie just to make nerds upset it does well
>movie only got any press at all because of how angry it got people
>This only proves that making manchildren angry gets you a shitload of free marketing.

You people are fucking idiots, you did exactly what they wanted you to. Even if this particular movie didn't do the best, they now know this CAN work.
>>
>>5798388
It failed to make even half its listed budget back in the opening weekend and will only go down from here, it won't be opening at all in China, lost the #1 movie spot to the Pets movie outside of Pets opening weekend, and in the coming weeks it's going to be competing against several popular franchise movie openings.

The movie is going to "break even" at best even with all this publicity and marketing push.
>>
>>5798397
Sure, but you people only have your selves to blame the next time a movie comes out with the intent to piss you off for free marketing, this time pushing for that from the start.
>>
>>5798406
Why are you trying to suggest that all the negative backlash and bitching about it somehow boosted its sales? It got people talking about it and the name out their, but the discussion has been primarily about how awful it looks and that does not get people in seats at theaters while alienating your original fanbase on top of it.

And doing this in a month heavy with big name movie premiers is essentially suicide. No one is going to want to purposefully copy this shooting yourself in the foot advertising model.
>>
>>5798419
I have heard a good number of people say they only went to piss off whiny manchildren.

I know you would be lost without bitching about shit, but it's gonna hurt you in the long run.
>>
>>5798453
>I have heard a good number of people say they only went to piss off whiny manchildren.
A rather insignificant amount considering the movie only brought in forty million over the weekend in the middle of Summer. Most of the Transformers movies made that in midnight showings.
>>
>>5798383
Phasma is tall, so if they did a hot chick un-helmeted they'd either need to find a sexy snu-snu to take the actual actress's place or use forced-perspective with an average-height QT. But I'll be happy if helmet-less Phasma is the same actress. Her cockneybong helmet-comm voice makes me diamonds already.
>>
>>5798453
>40 million domestically
>19 million worldwide foreign
>144 million budget

The controversy killed the movie. I mean this should've at least made back its budget, it had the power to do so, but the controversy, especially how the cast and staff responded to it, killed it.

Not to be that person, but kids are pretty much "taught" what to like at an early age. Dolls and pretty princess shit is pushed on girls and cars and sports and superheros are pushed on boys the moment they're born. So of course they're going to lean towards what they're used to. It's almost like you're programmed to like these things.

Kinda like how you're also taught to fear something. There's no reason to be scared of spiders or snakes, we're just taught early on that these are scary creatures.

I'm a femanon and I remember as early as 2 or 3 playing video games like Duck Hunt or Street Fighter, reading comics and playing with Power Ranger toys. I still love toys and comics and vidya to this day.

Basically, blame parents for not getting their kids to like something

>>

Except in the overwhelming majority of human beings the brains develop differently on the basis of sex to appreciate and understand things. It's as diametrically different as phenotypical traits between the sexes. For example spatial awareness is incredibly more accurate in male brains than females (as a femanon you can even take an online spatial awareness test yourself to see) so things that involve construction and abstract mental visualization are naturally much more interesting to males than females. In much the same way, females have developed a much more keen ability to distinguish colors and patterns than males due to common male ocular genetic deficiencies, so things that involve pattern coordination and color choice is much more interesting (and comprehendible) to females than males.

These things aren't "taught" they are hardwired into human physiology, and it translates to how toys are developed and demographically marketed. You wouldn't make a huge market push for construction things or transforming things to females because the interest is going to be quite low by factor of nature. You also wouldn't push color- and pattern-rich play materials to boys because the level of perception is stunted and as such so would be the enjoyment of those toy attributes.

So, no, you are incredibly off target when you say that you should blame parents for anything. Anecdotally maybe you have a differently wired brain that appreciates things closer to a common male, but for the overwhelming majority of human beings you would be the outsider by way of nature, not nurture.

5/10

The jokes are mostly very low-brow (The queef joke is the worst offender) and they get old fast, and the leads have no sense of chemistry between them.

The characters are what really carries the original movies and these new ones are all just competing with each other to try and be the funniest comedian with no straight man in the group to balance them out.

And I know you said ignoring the feminism, but it's hard to when the movie is really in your face about it in the movie itself.

Well, to be fair it came out like, 4 or 5 years ago or something. It was about the Norwegian camp that gets mentioned in the original movie.

I've never actually bothered watching it, because even though it wasn't a remake, it was yet again, just another throw away movie trying to make money off of a name that everyone knows and loves. They tasted ok, but after all the hype it's taste was kind of a let down. Anons on this site said it tasted like "Heaven". Others kept going on about how bad it is for you, but that the diabetes the drink would give you would be worth it.
I expected it to taste like candy or something, but it just tasted like a normal every day generic cheap orange drink. Also not having Slimer on the new boxes was a mistake.

Its basically just any other Hi-C. Its pretty much just orange-flavor that just happens to be green. Nothing really memorable about it, and its just back for the novelty.

I remember being a kid and there were all kinds of Ghosbuster-themed snacks and stuff. I remember a Ghostbuster-branded taffy that was only available at one gas station, and we always had to stop there when I was a kid to get some.

I was actually like, 6 or 7 when Ghostbusters II was in theaters, so they had a shit ton of different candies and promotions for the movie back then too. I remember McDonalds having these promotional Ghostbusters containers for their happy meals and stuff too at the time.

The special thing about Ecto-Cooler is that it was a part of a lot of people's childhoods even years after ghostbusters 2 came out, and it remembered very fondly.

On top of that, the new release of it tastes spot on perfect to what it was 20 years ago, so it really is like a little drink of your childhood.

There's nothing that tastes like it, much to the disappointment of many nostalgiafags who want to taste their childhood again. Even the relabeling of the drink didn't taste like the original and people have been trying to replicate its flavor for over a decade.

I will never, ever, understand what the hell these people were thinking.

20$ action figures, TWENTY EFFIN' DOLLARS for an action figure of a character nobody knows or cares about from a movie that nobody asked for.
Calling the price outrageous is an understatement and this isn't the 80's or 90's when literally everything got an action figure line whether it appealed to kids or not.

Was there anything about this movie Sony didn't botch?

We probably would have had more ghosts and stuff had they been in charge. But from what I understand they can only do minimates and shit fro the new movie.
>>
>>5799782
Only feminists cared about this Ghostbusters.

Most women (and people in general) never wanted to watch it.

When I first heard the rumors of an all female team my first thoughts went to Janine (and even the goth chick from that one Ghostbusters cartoon). How much better do you think this movie could have been if they had not gone complete reboot and had instead focused on a new team (be they all female or not) that were a mix of new and old characters?

This whole film just seems like lost potential. Who's idea was it to go with a full reboot?
>>
>>5800449
IDW already did a mostly women ghostbusters with Janine and Kylie and is was fucking incredible. It might even be my favorite Ghostbusters incarnation.

I can't help but compare the old toy line to the new one.
Characters had distinct, albeit loud, color-schemes instead of all wearing the same dull brown jumpsuits.
Each one came with an, admittedly small, ghost to fight, none of this "collect all four to assemble the bad guy" stuff.
They were much more reasonably priced, I remember having all four ghostbusters as a kid plus the ecto-1 and a monster or two. I can't imagine any kids parents breaking out 80$ for a set of the new ones. Maybe a few collectors will buy them hoping that they become valuable a few years down the road?

Kids don't buy toys to any real volume like back then.
Toy isles keep shrinking
My local Target is planning to shrink two off two more rows of toys which means about 4 or five lines of toys will be no longer stock there. Walmart in the area to is planning to cut down on their lower selling toys.

Should have taken pics, but at my local Wal-Mart the Ghostbuster pegs are totally full, including the classics line. If I thought they were worth 20 bucks a pop I might've picked up all 4 classic Ghostbusters. The real crazy part was the massive quality difference. All the classics looked like the actors. The FemBusters all looked like goopy garbage. I'll go back sometime and take some pics, shit was ridiculous.

They're still clogging up shelves in Walmart in my area, along with the classics figs. No ones buying them except for the initial release. Now they just keep adding onto the pegs. It's clear kids don't want them. It's Green Lantern all over again. Just wait a month or two and they'll get cleared out the way the movie is raking in the million in ticket sales.

The difference being sex appeal is the only thing women have to offer. The reason no one batts an eye at Underworld, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Kill Bill, etc. is because they play up the sex appeal. No one would watch a female driven action film otherwise.
>>
>>5806038
That's true, because the target audience for action films is 30 year old angry virgins who need something to beat off to.

Emoji's are the common heritage of mankind. The specific icon displayed as an emoji can not be trademarked because it's not an original work. At best an icon could be copywritten with a bribe.
