SAS General: Chase Edition

Hi I'm relatively new to JoJo,but I have being enjoying the anime so far and I wanted to buy a figure, however I've never bought a S.A.S. before. I've managed to find a Jotaro Ver. 1 for a reasonable price, and was wandering if there's any reason to spend more money for a Ver. 1.5 or 2 (aside for the different colour, of course). From what I've gathered the only difference between the 1 and the 1.5 is that 1 does not come with the speech bubble. Is this correct? Any other differences? Any help would be very appreciated.

So why do people get made when Medicos picks up a new IP? I don't really care about RWBY, but if it's popular and brings them money, isn't that good for the quality of their other products?

On the left is Jotaro 1st. On the right is Jotaro 2nd (which should have roughly the same face sculpt as Jotaro 1.5). As you can see, 1st is kind of melty-faced.

1.5 overall is updated in other aspects of its sculpt, I believe.

No one got mad at Parasyte or Ajin getting SAS's so it's the IP choice. There's just a lot of disdain for Tokyo Ghoul and RWBY either from the community or the content itself. Alternatively it can also affect the release cycle of the JJBA mainline.

Medicos hit it out the park for Ajin and Shinichi for me so I don't mind but the recent Tokyo Ghoul figure was such a mess that I'm surprised that got passed to be the first release. Kaneki looks a little better but they made his main mode of attack a static accessory that I don't know if they are giving Tokyo Ghoul the same effort beyond the sculpting and paint they usually do.

Ordered Anasui today. All I need now is Hermes and Pucci to finish off my Stone Ocean cast. Still don't know if I'm gonna get their stands.

I wanna buy figures from other series but JoJo has been my true joy for years and everything i buy that's non-JoJo related feels like an impulse buy and I usually sell whatever it is later for more SAS. What do I do?

Then focus your collection to just JJBA SAS. It sounds like you like to pull the trigger before really thinking on what you're going to do with the figure. It's ultimately your cash but if JJBA is your true series preference then just learn to pass on other figures even if it's tempting.

I still remember that one collector who has like double of every SAS in JoJo and takes some apart to make the perfect one without the usual QC flaws certain ones have. Another is a collection solely around JoJo with the very high end items like those limited edition watches and shoes. So really there's nothing wrong with having a singular series to collect for. Just don't complain if you have some sudden urge to collect from another series and the aftermarket jacks up the original price and just realize how much of it you really value.

The funniest case of this was an anon posting his Nendoroid collection over a span of weeks as he gets new Nendoroid's in the General and then as I browse the /a/ buyfag thread someone made a webm of his collection as it started to him selling most of it off.

I guess going back to the IP's Medicos are picking up at a whim what other series would everyone else like to see in some far future after JoJo is done with anything new beyond colorways.

Going through some of artworks I saved I realized the demons from Shin Megami Tensei would be an interesting approach. Especially with modern Kazuma Kaneko demon designs taking the helm since he this visual aesthetic for demons and the weird porcelain doll look of his humans.

And Franken Fran as a personal wish.

And if you look beyond even all that, there's no way that they'd finish a cast. Figma/D-Arts/Figuarts CUMULATIVELY still haven't finished the main cast of P4G and it's been what, five years? Medicos can't even finish the cast of Phantom Blood, let alone 5+ main characters and Persona. I think it's great in theory but it's horrible in practice

I would like to see more fantasy based figures.

Since Furu Puni, figma and Revoltechs lost interest, I would like to see how SAS can do Queen's Blade characters. Rebellion and Grimoire remains fairly untouched. Not sure if Hobby Stock and Medicos are tight but other companies made figures so not impossible.

There's no recorded bootlegs for this line. Amazon is usually the last choice given the prices for an SAS by certain sellers. At best you should price compare them to what's listed on Mandy and other 2nd hand sites. Also Prime shipping if you have that in tow.

He's solid. Figure is really good over all but the head articulation is hit or miss. Paint is nice and detail is minimal but works for the design. If anything I feel like the lack of accessories is pretty lame and you're more or less getting Moody Blues with a bunch of hands and that's it. If you like the design then go for it, he's pretty cheap too.

Oddly enough Diver Down's arm just popped off but I manage to gain an extra function out of him which I'm planning to use from now on. Apparently all I have to do is slightly soften the bicep peg and lightly fit Annasui's punch effect piece to it and I got a personal rocket punch for Diver Down to use.

The weird thing is, from what I've seen online, it seems like a lot of the people who actually wanted RWBY figures wanted Figmas or Nendoroids. Complete indifference towards the subject material aside, has Medicos even done any figures with a more straightforward anime aesthetic rather than the more shaded approach of things like JJBA and Parasyte?

The closest I had in mind was Kinnikumen but that's dead in the water with Figuarts taking the mantle of it.

Also I think you have to factor in Medicos excels in other properties away from the typical anime aesthetic so RWBY getting a figma or a Nendoroid isn't really out there and the negative attention would probably be even smaller. Medicos is probably the last company you would imagine doing a RWBY figure.

By going through parts properly and not rushing things like Josuke from Jojolion. Though nowadays with increasing prices it's a bit of a tricky situation.

At the very least we are entering Part 7 now so Valentine is probably a few years away rather than a couple. Though that 7k Rohan and no Stand Weather Report in sight makes me worry a little on what's going on behind the scenes but then again I was blown away by the new Giorno colorway and the fact you can order a Swarovski Crazy Diamond on site versus going to Wonfest, buying a figure to get a ticket, waiting for your number to come up and have the winning ticket, and then buying the figure on top makes it a silver lining.

Personally I feel it's odd that they didn't release it to close up Part 6(which would be really cool seeing how Part 6 ended with Weather Report) seeing how simple it is in terms of design and general color.

Though deep down I always saw this as an opportunity to make a partial figure of a stand but make it act as more of an accessory with it appearing behind Weather Report and have articulated arms and head since there are times we only see stands partially and without a lower half appear behind the user.

Forgot to mention, depending on what you find I observed the reissue has a much lighter skin tone that seems to make the figure look a bit odd under strong lighting versus the original's darker shading.

Both look fine but I'm personally a fan of the older shading on the original versus the much lighter tones of the reissue.

Honestly I just assumed Araki got stricken with the idea that he often sees regular businessmen living their lives day by day without many interesting things and the fact Cats are usually household pets for many which could lead to Killer Queen's design inspiration next to the actual song by Queen. This was further cemented with the entire chapter dedicated to Kira dealing with a cat who becomes a plant later on.

I even distinctly remember him mentioning that he finds cats fairly creepy but I'm not sure if that was an interview or one the little quotes he writes on certain pages.

Medicos last Wonfest was pushing on the new IP figures with Rohan and White Snake on the side instead of focusing on the majority fanbase which is JJBA. Not sure if that's a great move on their part and who knows what the sales number looks like on Shu, Kaneki, and the other Tokyo Ghoul characters will be.

So far the only stellar release that's not JoJo related was IBM and Shinichi. Hopefully Toyohisa is another great figure if the articulation isn't hindered too much by his armor. Probably not as dynamic as the Revoltech but an on point sculpt and paintwork.

Dunno how many of you collect the manga but Barnes & Noble has a B1G1F manga sale. Can get all 7 hardcover parts of Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency for ~70 USD. Works for the preorder of the newest part coming next month too.

We won't know for a while, but I'm guessing Medicos kinda screwed the pooch with Tsukiyama. It might not heavily affect sales of Juuzou and Kaneki, but the garbage job they did with Shu did probably push some newcomers to SAS (who don't know how good they can be) away from it.

Ah, well. Only time will tell. Don't think Medicos will show anything new for Tokyo Ghoul in a week though. If anything, it's either Winter Wonfes or not at all, because I don't think they're gonna pump out any more figures without knowing whether they're gonna be a success at all, and I'm guessing that with the sales on the Statue Legends and the Shu SAS, things are currently not looking too good.

Can't blame them at all, but I do think their own effort (or lack thereof) with the line so far is a big factor in how badly the line might be doing. The Uta Statue Legend had loads of paint splotching and QC errors, Shu SAS was a waste of plastic, and the Ken Kaneki Statue Legend (45K yen) is the most overpriced piece of shit I've ever seen that makes me wonder what exactly Di Molto Bene is smoking.

I'm in the position to get a DIO of any kind, but i only want one and i'm mostly leaning towards the second version, however that effect could put the Black ver over the edge.
