Thoughts on robotic toys? Always kind of wanted an Aibo growing up
>>
It's not as much a problem these days, but growing up, I was always frustrated by the fact that most of the 'robots' were glorified RC cars, with tires swapped for gear-teeth so you'd get a 'forward' action, a 'reverse' action and, if you were lucky, left and right would be separate from the first two.

I've always really wanted an aibo but can never justify $600 + for a robot as old and irreplaceable as aibo are.

I do have a pleo I got for $30 off ebay and it's pretty cute. People are always impressed by how real it moves and it does respond to its surroundings in an unpredictable way.

>>5769844
I felt your kid selfs pain anon. I was also frustrated by shitty rc "robots" as a kid. Wowee's robots are barely more than rc cars even now.

>30$

What? How??

ROBO-PUPPY MISTREATMENT ALERT!
>>

The person I bought it from wasn't sure if it worked or not so it was listed as "for parts only" bad batteries are a major problem for the old 2007 ugobe pleo so I went on taobao a bought an off brand lithium ion battery, he worked just fine with a new battery

Really the battery is the most expensive thing when it comes to ugobe pleos.
>>
>>5769898
>cheap offbrand LiOn battery
>Killed in his sleep by flaming pleo
>But god damn it was reasonably priced
>>
>>5770007

As funny as that scenario is its pretty unlikely. It's actually really bad for pleo circuitry to leave the battery in him all the time. You charge it, run him for about 2hrs (that's the max the battery will run him) and store the battery outside him when not in use.

I've never understood how is it that there are roboticists study Aibo. If it wasn't for roboticists? then how did Aibo get made? Or is it knowledge Sony doesn't share?

Try that in English next time, Paco.

it would be nice to have some Aibo figures, maybe do a few animals from the tokyo jungle series too. Who doesn't want well articulated animals anyway
>>
>>5780322

Kaiyodo actually made fully poseable aibo figures. You can find them on ebay for about $30 usd occasionally.

also this Wrex the Dawg - probably my favorite.
PS:
Honestly im not too excited about Aibo and other japanese dogs. They are outdated, super expensive and don't have modern technology. They were something mindblowing during early 00s but i guess we should wait for somebody will try to do same AI with modern stuff. it will be way more interesting and cheaper.
>>
>>5780340
Do you ever have them talk to each other?
>>
>>5780353
i tried but they just respond to any sound. so i guess its semi-legit feature. you can just leave them and respond to each other without actually "knowing" what they doing

fuck this gay earth

What parrot is that? It looks pretty cool!

>>5780347
I feel like the last aibo they made is still impressive even by today's standards. I don't know of a single other quad robot that can put it's own toy up and sit itself on its charger when it's battery dies. Sure they don't always make it back to the stand but still it's impressive.

I find that most kids aren't even interest in robots with true ai. The first thing kids tend to ask about my pleo is 'does it do any tricks? ' and they are severly dissapointed when I say not really. As if a real baby dinosaur would preform on command.

I assume the little card is a tiny version of the aibo battery but I'm just guessing. It looks like you assemble it in blocks just like the real aibo 210s are assembled. I've never seen one reviewed so I couldn't tell you what the joints are like though.

I remember having one like this, but it was much cheaper looking, much blocker, etc.

I can't remember what they were called, but there were multiple "animals" including a dog one if I remember. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? If I remember the had neon-colored parts like neon blue, green, pink, etc, but the bodys were silver I think.

I managed to understand it just fine.

I swear every time I see these "TRY ENGLISH" posts it just makes them look like they lack comprehension skills.

Was talking about Aibo in a security research thread with a friend of mine a while back.

Anyone remember this?
