It's not even as good as fucking GI Joes.

It's ugly glossy plastic crap Mattel shits out that makes it look like cheapo Chinese bootlegs.

They look pretty mediocre in those reviews, but still fun. I'll probably grab a couple. His size comparisons aren't helpful to me though, he only compares them to McFarlane figures and Figuarts Mario.

If you've seen Mattel's SvsB figures, it's the same cheapness.
Granted, it's not as bad looking, because the armor is supposed to be shiny, but the bodysuit looks that way too. Just looks cheap as shit.

But that's just me, since i had the McFarlane's figures to compare them to and they just look like bootlegs.
That hard plastic look just looks cheap, which is glossier than Hasbro's plastic.
>>
>>5762819
Do you actually have them in hand? Cause the reviewer says the armor is soft plastic, and I'm not seeing glossiness.

just in package.

I'm surprised if it is soft plastic, because it's totally has that shiny ugly bootleg plastic sheen.

BTW, are the BvS figures using that soft plastic too? Anyone know?
>>
>>5762853
You're a liar dude, these haven't been spotted in stores yet. The softness has been proven and is a common complaint as it falls off, slides around, and can potentially warp
>>

>>
>>5762856
Dude's not lying. I found and bought both Linda and the red spartan at the Hastings in Auburn Al. The plastics a good quality. The under body is kinda soft, but the peg on armor is harder. I've had good joint tolerances. The paints lacking a bit, but otherwise I like them. It's nice to have Spartans that can actually hold their weapons now.
>>
>>5762867

>>

Yes, since it's mostly unpainted colored plastic. It's cheap shiny crap.

If you see them in person, you'll agree it looks lifeless and toy-like.

Look at them in person and you'll see a big difference.
Mattel's stuff basically looks like this.

It's extremely cheap looking. So much stuff left unpainted and what was just looked cheap.

And again, I saw them being compared to the McFarlane figures, so it's an even huger difference, but the plastic itself looked like the BvS stuff.
>>
>>5762893
Guess I'll just have to have it in hand to fully understand then. And like I said earlier, I don't mind painting it myself, but if they do look so bad to begin with, that sucks for others. But at least they have the articulation to pull off poses like this >>5760049 which McFarlane figures hasn't been able to do since the Halo 3 series.

My figure's elbows do not move the way they're supposed to. It's a double-elbow, but the top of the double elbow is locked up on one arm, and the bottom is locked on the other arm. One of his shoulder joints was loose out of the package. Because of all of this, I'm not able to make him hold the Needler with both arms.

Lots of leg joints here, so leg poseability is pretty good. Joints are pretty loose, though.

The plastic used for the body is definitely the cheapest part of the figure. It's ignorable with the armor on, and once the figure is posed, it looks great. All in all, I'd give the figure a 7.5/10. Not sure if I'll buy any others, but I'm pretty okay with this purchase.
>>
>>5765132
To be fair, these are Spartan IVs which aren't NEARLY as augmented as Spartan IIs like Chief in-lore.

But at least it seems they'll fit in with Figuarts at least. Did you try the boiling water technique for the arms?

/customs/ reporting.

Do McFarlane Halo 5 Spartans boil'n'pop relatively easy? I'd like to replace the old joints with Hobby Base joints and mod the articulation further.
>>
>>5766773
Can't speak for Halo 5 figures specifically, but I've popped apart their Assassin's Creed figures with relative ease after heating.
>>
>>5766773
You can pop the joints out with a little force without boiling them.
McFarlane uses a lot ball joints and/or barbell joints (two ball joints on either end of a stick). The revoltech joints are a little harder to take out though, so you might want to try heating them up.

If you honestly think that Mattel of all companies would keep their word on how a figure would look, you are being too optimistic. That being said, they definitely should have done a better job on the armor quality and paint apps, both in quantity and quality, especially for the $20 they're asking. Unfortunately your only real options for any kind of Spartan are limited

>McFarlane - Good paint/Shit size and Articulation even with mods
>Mattel - Bad paint/Okay size/Decent articulation
>MegaBloks - Decent Paint / Good size if you dig tiny figures / Better than expected articulation
If Mattel pumps out a lot of armors, I'd be fine with the shit paint if it means having a great selection of characters.

I can also see them making "Deluxe" figures with better paintjobs to sell at conventions or some bullshit.

I'm kinda glad they suck, here in canada they cost $28 before tax.

I feel like the Halo 3 Line really was the best.

Reach was okay but had too much armor excess so you had to shave away just to move a leg or arm.

Halo 4 Line seemed like it was getting back on track.
>>
>>5775422
Yeah, that's the silver lining, I can save money for other things.
>>5775426
I'm sorry for giving my opinion on a product in the thread specifically for said product.
>>5775431
I feel like they'd been on a steady decline since the Halo 3 line. They stopped doing armor interchangeability and kept getting less and less articulated. By the time the Halo 5 line came around, all they could really do was stand there, and maybe hold their weapon with two hands. If there's one good thing about the new figures, they're at least well articulated.
>>
>>5775446
Nah don't be sorry, I was just playing with you. I am quite disappointed with the leg joints myself. They are a pain to deal with. I still like them though.

Good lord, Linda looks like she has yandere-eyes with that helmet.
>>
>>5775446
Halo 5's line was weird with the articulation, since there was barely any consistency. Like you had figures like Locke or Tanaka who could only do what you said, then you had guys like Kelly, Fred or the Athlon spartan who basically were on par with 4's line.
>>
>>5775446
Halo 3 had the best figures IMO lost of characters possability swapable armor and decent weapons. The Reach line was beefy but not the best articulation and the figures could not properly hold the weapons. Halo 4 figures lost the armor swaping and some articulation but could actually hold the guns well. Guardians went back to the Reach issues with guns.

Any tips? Thinking about buying Linda and trying this shit out.
>>
>>5776172
Just looks like a black wash and then silver drybrushing.
>>
>>5776172
To do what was done to make the feather look weathered.

It was first dry brushed with a light brown acrylic paint.

When set and dried, then a coat of sliver paint was dry brushed.

So the paint would wash off, Matte finish/ dullcoat was applied.

It seems overly down in the first try. I was suggested by anon that it could have used a wash.

Bought shoe polish paint for the wash. Black or brown, doesn't matter.

Then after the wash was applied and cleaned, it was again dry brushed to make the sculpted details pop out more.

Then again, the matte finished was applied. Same thing was done to the weapons.

The great thing about these figures is the removable armor, which made painting so much easier and ideal. They were individually done.

I hope this helps.

I have a Linda too and plan to do it on her.

Three things to Always do when painting.

>Always wash the Figure, part, mini before priming.
>Always prime your figure, part, mini to help the paint stick to the piece.
>Thin your paints, may take a few coats, but better results.

Look up a few Miniature Painting videos on Youtube, and get a few tips from there and see what works for you.
Personally I like Vallejos Brand of Hobby paint, but you can search for which brand is better in your Price Range.

Washing your figure with dish soap is more important than priming. There's always a slick coat of lube on practically all toys made today, so it's very important to take that grease off.
i've painted a lot of stuff without primer and the paint is still on decades later.

You can do without priming, though you'll NEED to top coat it if you want the paint to stay on from a lot of handling. Of course, with weathering and washes, it's not really necessary and can look better over the years from that natural handling.

Oh yeah, my TRU is carrying the line now. Saw the Elite and fucking Jada's minis had better paint than that

Picked a couple up today, they're pretty decent. The colors are a little more muted than pictures made it seem, which is good. I thought Chief's green was gonna be really bright. I only have Chief and Linda and while I know they have different body sculpts because they're a man and a woman, it's kinda disappointing the armor swapping isn't totally universal.
