I was unsure at first but after seeing wotafa review how the feet work and how amazing the sculpt, paint and plastic were compared to anything tfc had made before, I was willing to go all in. Pretty fucking worth it so far, save for stress marks on Killbison's pointless leg tabs. If they break all that'll happen is that in tank mode his back panel will be slightly easier to pull up. Things are near perfect.

Literally the only thing I want at this point is some tabs for the breast animals' heads, but even then that'd compromise breastplate mode.

It's the best looking Defensor in my opinion, but the individual bots are just unappealing to me. If artistic license doesn't bother you, or you only care about combined mode, go for it. I personally think the chunky blocky TFC Defensor has it's almost cute charms as well.
>>
>>5727036
>It's the best looking Defensor in my opinion, but the individual bots are just unappealing to me
there's such a dissonance between the accuracy of the combined mode and the robots, its so weird

maybe the designer thought people will just care about the combined mode, and decided to experiment with the individuals?

maketoys defensor is very nice though, he's basically a beefed up, anime version of the CW toy. They even changed the head to look more like the CW toy (It was more toy accurate in the concept art)

I really dont want that to happen. Because I know i'll buy it.

I managed to get a second run Quakewave at about $100 which is what I feel he should have gone for to begin with. He's a very good figure, just expensive. But he was my first major 3p purchase and I still love him. He's just so hefty. I'd like to get QB and the MP too though. All three would look great displayed together.

I think the reason why Quakewave was expensive was simply because there was no competition, let alone a good figure of G1 Shockwave at the time.
If he had been released later, like when the MP was first teased, his retail would be a lot lower.

That said, the things I'd do for something like an MMC Reformatted TFA Shockwave...
>>

Voyager size, so too big.
>>

>Quakeblast is completely on par in terms of quality and a lot cheaper.

Where do you even find him? The only place I've seen him, he's priced just as high as the MP/Wave.
>>
>>5727546

For whatever reason, Quakeblast has always mostly just been sold on eBay. You can get it for about 75 shipped.
>>
>>5727491
>so too big.
For you maybe.
>>
>>5727553

From a US shipper or chinese? Not gonna lie, I have 0 faith in chinese shippers what with all the horror stories of people being swindled by them.
>>
>>5727568
Your only options really are Chinese, or you pay extra to get some US/Europe to send you it since they have to middleman it.

Cloud 9 is a Chinese company, who knew?
>>
>>5727568

All Chinese, but you just pick one with a lot of transactions and 100% positive feedback. I don't know why people are so mystified by eBay lol.

Also usually the "swindling" that occurs with Chinese eBay sellers is just them selling a lot of knockoffs (which are most of the time super obvious because the price is way too low to be the real thing and the description says something like "CHINA VERSION"), and it's almost impossible to be scammed by a seller on eBay because eBay's policies insure and favor the buyer so hard.

It's almost impossible to be a scammer on eBay as a seller anymore. It used to be more of a thing you could worry about with like new accounts without many sales, but nowadays if you're a new user or don't sell stuff all the time they even keep the money and won't give it to you until the buyer has confirmed that they're satisfied with the transaction, so that if anything goes wrong they can refund them and there's no way for you to cheat around it. If you want to scam people on eBay, you pretty much have to do it as the buyer.

Because sometimes chinese accounts go full retard, take all the money, and disappear. Even ones in good standing. And yeah, eBay will generally cover your ass, but no one wants to have to wait for them to decide your case is valid, and then refund you whenever.

The way some Chinese scammer work. Is Have an account or buy a one that has the Paypal restrictions unlocked.(If you new to eBay selling Money from your sales are held pending for a few weeks)

Once these sellers will meet the requirements, they sale at a low price like MP-10 for $50 or MP Hot Rod for $30 with free shipping. People dumb enough will buy it on the Chance it is legit(I guess hoping it is a listing mistake or crazy person) using paypal/eBay buyer protection as the fall back.

Seller uploads bullshit tracking to stall eBay and buyers, meanwhile transferring the paypal funds out.

Best way to deal with buying from China is a bit of research alot of the reputable dealers have been on ebay for years and maybe even google their user name sometime they might have a tread about them in a forum.
>>
>>5726195

I wish this was a little more articulated (not seeing explicit evidence of bicep/wrist/waist articulation, and the feet obviously don't move), but MAN I would love to own a transforming VW bus. Hopefully it sells for cheap so I can justify the simplicity, too bad it's not legends scale.
>>
>>5727736
even the reputable dealers aren't 100% safe, since these accounts tend to get hacked & stolen from the good sellers all the time, or a seller decides to quit the business but sells the account.

Agreed, if you do buy from China keep track of the time. you have a finite amount of time to file a claim(45 days) Scammers will state a long ass delivery time to milk the time.

If it get close to 45 days and you have not got the item file a claim.

You get your money back

My Sister is in the process of filing a claim with eBay. She bought the 3rd Party Krang for 110 Which I was just informed she got her money back.

Here are my tips from buying form China.

1.read feedback
2. How long then been on eBay
3. Constant items they sell(If they were selling cheap pool toys then now selling 3rd party stuff)
4. They use their own photos(If it just stock photo it is a red flag)

It is no guarantee Maybe if eBay put in a escrow system like Ali express for China sellers.

So, what are some inexcuseable things in 3P craftsmanship that you think should be an industry standard by this time? Within reason I mean, obviously some of these you couldn't fit on a Legends-sized figure like IF puts out. Heres a few of mine:

>no individually jointed fingers and thumb

What are we, fucking barbarians?

>not keeping weapons to 5mm pegs to increase playability

So much shit, official and not, uses this measurement. No excuse to not exploit this for additional fun.

>no toe joints for easier posing

Self explanatory. Can be excused if the transformation couldn't possibly allow it.

>not ensuring the area around the head has a molded dip into it for posing 'bots with big fat chins or super fat brick heads down/up further

Such an easy thing to add, why does no one do this?
>>
>>5728187
>no individually jointed fingers and thumb

Unless it's a large toy like Armada Unicron, I just don't see the point. Smaller hands just feel as flimsy as those Jazwares Sonic figures that would often break in the packages.
>>
>>5728190

I'd think Voyager sized and up figures could easily accommodate it.
>>
>>5728203
They always end up looking too small. Hinged knuckle is the way to go.
>>
>>5728187
5mm pegs should be a rule for all transformers toys. Even MPs should have that as an option

otherwise i dont see your other suggestions as being necessities. I dont see toe joints as being important for robots. Human action figures, sure, but the majority robot toys dont have those
>>
>>5728187
>no individually jointed fingers and thumb
These suck because they usually end up with tiny baby hands like Hexatron
>>
>>5728358

Nothing stops them from making them bigger to be honest. Also Hexatron's a special case, most 'bots aren't expected to have 6 forms.
>>
>>5727582
>>5727736
>>5728082
So how would these apply if I purchased something like WeiJiang's M-01 Commander off of a Chinese seller on eBay? I can only assume that there's little to no risk of a knockoff knockoff existing, but you never know.
>>
>>5728377
Quit being a lil paranoid bitch and just buy from a Chinese seller whose feedback is modern and positive.

And no, there's no KOs of the KO, especially since the actual figure is cheap already.
>>
>>5726115
They look pretty good but I have the MP line now and just can't follow $600 combiners.

I actually order my shit from BBTS, but that's just because I can bundle shipments together between 3P TFs and some of the other stuff I collect.

I've used TFsource, BBTS,The Chosen Prime, Captured Prey, Action Robo, Planet Steel Express, and Uncle Billy's shop. Never had any problems with any of my orders and Q/C issues were resolved.

My number one place is The Chosen Prime since they get shit in the fastest and ship same day with the same free shipping and point reward bonuses as everywhere else. TFS was my goto until they started fucking around taking eons to receive stock and then seven years to ship it when it comes in. They do have the best sales though. I would use Captured Prey more since they do the discount thing but it always feels like whatever I want there is out of stock or not carried at all.

I dislike the fact it's a $30-$40 toy at most, being sold for $140, which is a straight ripoff. I dislike the fact it's greebled and hideous.

And yet it still cost less than the Soap Studios figurines, which are barely detailed and cost $170, for $10 figurines.

This shit is just overpriced and anyone paying it is retarded.
>>
>>5729412

I mean it's 9" and diecast with a high part count and a lot of paint apps, if you think $30-40 is how much that should cost, then you must think literally every toy on the market is overpriced.

I'm not saying it should be $140 either, but you're definitely full of shit

man i told you im interested in optimus action figures, i've seen all the pics of this toy.

what im saying is, for a $100+ non transforming transformer, it should have more articulation

maybe you're satisfied with the outward movement and i understand, but I feel a dynamic sculpt like that deserves dynamic poseability.
>>
>>5729205

Why couldn't you do both? Poseable hands that come with 5mm weapons ala how MMC does it, or just making sure the hands are QC'd well enough that they can just wrap the fingers around the weapon to hold it?

LOL Ok walmart fag.
>>
>>5729455

>or just making sure the hands are QC'd well enough that they can just wrap the fingers around the weapon to hold it

I have literally never seen this work THAT well on a single toy in my entire life. It works to a degree that is like...acceptable on a lot of 3A bots. I wouldn't say it works perfectly on any of them. So I don't think it's a matter of good QC vs bad QC. I always find myself wanting a way to secure things better.

Ideally figures with big enough hands to support it should come with poseable fingers that can like hold stuff as well as they can like get it to, but all the accessories that come with the figure should also have a way to tab into the hand more securely if you want or need it.

So if you want to pose the figure like holding a sword really realistically in their fingers you can do it, but also if you want to just stick it straight in their hand and know that it's in there securely, you can also tab it into the palm or something.
>>
>>5729448
>, it should have more articulation
What the fuck do you want? For it to be able to suck its own dick? If can afford it, thats fine, but dont shit up the thread with your sour grapes.
>>
>>5729482

>It's MP sized.

Literally what's the difference that made you think this was somehow a necessary correction? MP Optimus is the size of a normal leader class figure. Same fucking thing.
>>
>>5729487
look here fucker, if i want Optimus Prime to be able to suck his own dick, that's my own goddamn business alright? now leave me at once, heathen
>>
>>5729448

This is my exact problem with this figure.

They can charge $140, they can make it not transformable, it's not like there haven't been other Optimus figures like that before. The problem lies in what it does to make up for those lost features. There are transforming optimus figures with more articulation than this thing.

>head not showcased to look all the way up or even down at all
>wrist on swivels only
>wheels inhibit full splits
>shitty range in ankle joints

So if it's not a transforming transformer. It's not super articulated. It's not full gokin. Again I ask,
Literally what's the point

>>5729482
No. It isn't. People might as well just buy the old Revoltech optimus, since that 8+ year old, $100 less figure has this one beat in every joint, besides the wrists, which are literally the same, and are arguably better on the revoltech because there are swappable hands. The only reason I can concede people will want this is to be size kings. That's it.

>>5729487
That isn't the point.
>>
>>5729483
>I have literally never seen this work THAT well on a single toy in my entire life.

Works perfect on my Hexatron and my PE combiner hands. They can even hold Shockwave, which many people bitch they can't get him held (you gotta bend the fingers the right way, takes some fiddling to do).
>>
>>5729513

yeah your standards for what qualifies as perfect are apparently just a lot lower than mine then, and I don't mean that as a jab at all, I know "you must have low standards" is a meaningless insult that gets regurgitated on this board a lot, but I just mean plainly that I think I'm a lot pickier than you are. A rundown of all relevant Prime action figures:

Mega SCF Prime:
Articulation: shit
Looks: legs look pretty good, everything else is shit

Revoltech Prime:
Articulated to a degree (its an older revoltech)
Looks like shit (Dreamwave style)

EX Gokin Prime:
Good articulation, very well hidden joints
Tries to be cartoon accurate, but the sculpt, proportion and some of the color is fucked up. Looks like shit

Hot Toys Prime:
Good articulation
His face is fucked up, looks fat
(also, he's huge)

Ultimetal Prime:
Good articulation
Looks like MP-10 for some reason?
(also, he's XBOXHUEG)

Oritoy Prime:
Well articulated in most places
Odd chunky, sorta anime, sorta toy accurate style, might not be for everyone

There's an upcoming one by Toyalliance, but it seems to be gigantic too, for some reason
At this point I'm thinking we'll never get that perfect Prime action figure. The best one is probably the D-Style Prime, but its a model kit, and its SD..
>>
>>5729520

Well, in this case, my definition of "perfect" is "It holds the weapon straight, without the weapon shaking or losing the weapon with a good, strong shake of the toy in hand".

Hexatron can do that no problem, as can the PE hands, but CW Ultra Magnus for example, most definitely cannot.

I do tend to like those 3/4th cut in grooves in hands too with articulated fingers.
>>
>>5729518

>Show me one in the same scale please.

But it does. The oritoy one can't look up as high as MP-10 or even down. MP-10 can do the splits without unwarranted wheels getting in the way, and it can do a wide stance with both its feet flat on the ground.

As an added point of contestance, MP-10 can make a proper pointing hand without looking like he has arthritis. I mean look at this shit, are you pointing at me or trying to give me a titty twister

Also, I think you're forgetting the most important point here, MP-10 can do all this and STILL TRANSFORM INTO A TRUCK. I don't even know how we're having this argument right now.

>>
>>5729544

>that feeling when you learned this was made by Fans Project in disguise
>>
>>5729674

Except that's not a waste of time and money because youtube reviews reach thousands of people, and paying someone to shill in a fucking /toy/ thread would be a complete waste of time and money because it would reach 20 people.
>>
>>5729702
>20 people

Either you're underestimating the volume of people that go in and out of /toy/ or you're the shill trying to control the damage.
>>
>>5729710

That's my estimate of how many people are realistically going to read a couple posts in one general thread on here, if that was someone's attempt to "shill" something, not how many people go on the board in total.
>>
>>5729632
MP 10 also has shit forward and backward hip articulation
>>
>>5729710
Toy has roughly 500 regulars and only a fraction of those ever go into this thread.
>>
>>5729716
>>5729739
Well if the assumption is 500 then we have 10% of that since this thread alone has 51 unique posters.

As far as business terms go, if you are a small company, it doesn't matter how small the group, if one person buys then it's a win.
>>
>>5729609
The best part about this is that one of the figures in question hasn't even been released yet, so no one actually knows, it's all just assumptions at this point.
>>
>>5729745

>As far as business terms go, if you are a small company, it doesn't matter how small the group, if one person buys then it's a win.

I own a small company, and actually that's fucking stupid. There are times where we've spent a bunch of time and money doing something promotional and seen no noticeable increase in sales. But "no noticeable increase in sales" probably means like, ok there were sales as a result of what we did but it was 3 people or something. That's not a win, though. That's a loss. We either spent more money than we gained or spent money that could have yielded a bigger gain elsewhere, and that means we fucked up, so we have to rethink what we're doing, and spend our time and money somewhere better.

Do you know how many "somewhere betters" there are out there for a toy company to be promoting their shit than in the middle of a general thread on /toy/?

Also if this thread has 50 unique posters than honestly wow because I was probably pretty spot on with my estimate that 20 people read any given post. I pulled that out of my ass but I bet it's about right.
>>
>>5729757
>I own a small company

There's your fucking problem. If you're a small company, advertising to such a small audience is in fact wasteful. But Oritoys isn't considered to be a typical small company.
>>
>>5729765

>>
Surprised at the blowback towards Quakewave in this thread. I still love mine.
>>
>>5729765

I was literally responding to someone who was talking about what "a small company" should do and prioritize.

And my small company is a videogame developer that honestly probably has a really similar size of customer base to Ori Toy, we both sell our products worldwide via the internet, and we both make a product for a small, specific niche of nerds, so marketing efforts are probably comparable in terms of what is and isn't worth it.

Obviously, yeah, our companies are different, because we're selling digital media for like $10 a pop and they're manufacturing high end goods, so they have way higher costs and also way higher revenue per customer, so they're overall bigger in scale than we are even if the number of customers is similar, but from a marketing standpoint there's not much difference.
>>
>>5729785
Amazing rebuttal, comrade.
>>
>>5729787

I think I was one of the people dissing on Quakewave and it's really not that there's anything at all wrong with it, it's just that you can get Quakeblast for so much cheaper, and it's a really similar figure that's overall slightly nicer. Obviously Quakewave did a lot right because Quakeblast straight up stole the transformation scheme from it wholesale lol it's just they had the opportunity to literally look at Quakewave and go "let's rip off the good things about this but slightly improve on it and offer it for cheaper" so it was kind of easy for them to win that one, cause it wasn't exactly a head-to-head competition.

He's not like Peaugh or Benscollectables who are like never negative about anything and like really gloss over the problems. The thing is he just makes way less videos than most reviewers and like makes them mostly as entertainment, so a lot of the time he only makes videos about the figures he's liked lately and wants to gush about. (I'm not saying whether that was the case with Quakeblast cause I haven't even watched the video but that's just why his reviews might seem like they're all positive)

Also Fansproject's latest Headmaster is releasing. It finally has all the articulation all the other guys should have had with wrist swivels, ankle tilts, and range on the legs and shoulders but with Hasbro having something comparable it might be too little too late.

Also the headmaster doesn't fit on the previous headmaster bodies for some reason. Not that it does anything since they didn't bother to paint the headmaster's little face.
>>
>>5733945
>Also the headmaster doesn't fit on the previous headmaster bodies for some reason

Now that is weird.

I feel bad for Function X. If they had just got their stuff out faster, people would have bought them all and been very happy with them. By dragging it out so long, a bunch of people have lost the hype and many are going to skip them for TR. I had the Decepticon trio and enjoyed them, but the TR ones are just fine and a third of the price. It's also a shame because they have a lot of cool stuff in the pipeline like Minerva and Horrorcons and I worry some of that might not come out.
>>
>>5733969
Yeah I was just thinking the same thing, they had their chance with the market totally cornered but dragged about to long

Sure their highbrow is cool, but is it cooler ENOUGH to beat a 15$ toy of perfectly good quality. I know personally i prefer the hasbro highbrow for its scale an price

My MMC Grandus Hexatron arrived already and I have to say... Wow. This was my first 3P product and I was expecting it to be shit because of what I'd heard on forums and because I kinda wanted it to be shit so I wouldn't have even more robots to look at buying but maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan this thing is awesome, I love how hefty he is and the badassitude he has. It looks great with my other stuff as he doesn't look too off. So now I wanna know, what are some other good 3P figures? (accessories/gimmicks are a thing that I like)
>>
>>5734074
If you want loads of accessories, Maketoys Battle Tanker has loads of weapons and customizable parts. However, he isn't as solid and intuitive as Hexatron.

If you want something similar to Hexatron, I'd say waiting on MMC's Overlord might be smart. He'll be similar in a lot of ways.
>>
>>5734082
Ah awesome. He looks pretty cool yeah. I like the look of MMC's Nova Prime too!
>>
>>5733628

I don't think Scorponok is particularly near the front of the line as far as IF releases. What we know for certain is that first they're going to release the Dynobots, then Black Shadow. Those are both coming out like any day now. They already sent the Dynobots to some photographers and reviewers. Then I would guess that Optimus/Ginrai is also before Scorponok since we saw a colored test shot of that first.

Hexatron really is a great figure. I haven't gotten Grandus yet (waiting on a good deal for him) but I really want the Shadow Maru repaint they've teased since forever.

Any of MMC's Reformatted line is good stuff to pick up, with Sparta or the evil black retool Commodus being real good picks.

I also like FansProject's headmaster stuff- Smart Robin, their version of Brainstorm, has a REALLY neat transformation, but he's kind of tiny (a little bigger than a deluxe) for the price. I also really like their version of Mindwipe, Sigma L. And their version of Quickswitch, MADLAW, while nowhere near as good as Hexatron, is pretty good for getting another sixchanger. I picked up the SixKnight repaint version and he's pretty fun.
>>
>>5733938
I'm so happy to see TFC doing what looks to be some really cool stuff. It's great when companies improve.
>>
>>5734146
Grandus is great, but I do like the Japanese TFs so I might be biased. Kinda hope someone does a better 3P Star Saber.

MMC had plans on releasing Greatshot and Shadow Maru retools of Hexatron before the first Hex came out.

I gotta agree with >>5734171
MP Star Saber is pretty cool, and fits the size of Hex and Overlord.
>>
>>5734171
I'd like him to be bigger, less weirdly weak limbed and for the saber and brain figures to be better. Also a sword that fits Star Saber's hand better? Also maybe a more show accurate sword?
>>
>>5734184
Fair enough. I'd like him to be a bit generically "better" too. But in terms of priorities, I think MP is fine and resources are better used on characters with no representation.
>>
So my Unique Toys Provider came in the mail today. Is it just me or does he have some really really goofy tight clearances? I mean I love the character and all, but with how tight his joints are, and how close some of those clearances are I'm a bit terrified to really fiddle with him much because I don't want to snap anything. That guy is a nutty fuckin' puzzle of a toy at times.

Anyone know why MMC suddenly went quiet on Kultur? I thought we'd get a preorder for him by now since Carnifex is already up.
>>
>>5734438
My best guess is they're holding out for a little longer to see if his face will be revealed this month or the next, which it probably will.

Also I know they're reworking some minor details, I'm hoping for a change to the mask but it may just be tolerances and stuff.

I've got PC-09 for Bruticus and while I love it, I don't really like the gun modes for the parts and would prefer just a couple feet to add possibility that I can leave to the side when they're uncombined, without feeling like I'm missing out on part of the product I payed for

I bought the nonnef feet (and like 2weeks later the fucker put them up on sale) and I enjoy them a lot, but I think they work best on Superion, the other combiners are bulkier and the PE feet work better for their look.

They def aren't perfect though, you probably know about having to assemble them, but on mine i also had to do some extra work. both the pegs where way too loose in the ports, 1 only needed two coats of polish but the other needed four.

Also to be safe i used super glue to lock the feet together, some of the connections (specifically the little flaps at either side of the front) felt thin and i was worried they might break so i just planned ahead

The plastic itself isnt really an issue, it feels chunkie, but still maliable.

Been thinking of painting them too, they dont look bad at all, but they lack that sort of glossy finish official plastic has

Eh, as cool of a toy as that Bludgeon was, it did have faults that nobody ever seems to mention.
It looks badass and has a lot of joints but unfortunately, those joints aren't all really that useful. The ratchets in the legs are oddly detented so getting him in decent action poses is a bit difficult. He also looks really stiff in any pose you put him in thanks to the way his shoulders work. In the end, he ends up just alright.

So a bit broke off my Maketoys Groove's handlebars. Fortunately I managed to glue it back on but I'm gonna be even more careful with it from now on. Really those handlebars should have been made from metal- I'd rather they'd dropped the metal from the exhaust and used it there instead. Heck, soft plastic would have been better than the hard, brittle stuff they used.

Still a great figure though, and at least the fragile bit isn't a vital component or anything.
