For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Just built this gusion. His hips are kinda finicky, but otherwise he's pretty fun. I like how he can be both badass and kawaii af. Recommended kit.

I want to get into Gunpla but can't paint that well...

What should my first Gunpla be? I want a HG model.
>>
>>5702683
What series do you like?
>>
>>5702683
GM. Always go for GM. GM is the right choice every time.
>>
>>5702686

I haven't watched much Gundam but I just love Mechs...

I like builky looking stuff or "evil" looking stuff.

I remember there being a Gundam in one that I watched which had a "chain fist" with the face of a dragon/lion on the end of it - I think it was green too.

I found a roman-looking Gundam which I really liked (Tallgeese?) but I can't find a HG version with the "helmet" look to it

>>5702688

Gundam Thunderbolt is pretty bad ass!
>>
>>5702693
Pretty sure you're talking about the Dragon Gundam, it hasn't had a good kit in years though, G Gundam has been largely ignored by Bandai.
As for evil looking kits, look into the 1/144 Gundam The End

Or just buy a GM
can't go wrong with GM
>>
>>5702700
>Dragon Gundam,

100% correct.

I remember being in awe of it when I was younger.

"The End" looks interesting...

Jesta Cannon is nice.
>>
>>5702708
Yeah, it was pretty cool. Shame about the lack of kits.

And yes, it's very nice. The Jestas are amazingly good, looks-wise and articulation-wise. You'll have a good time with one of those.

I'm thinking of a RGM-79 GM and a RGM-96X Jesta Cannon.
ce!) and Jesta because it looks awesome.

I'm going to need to buy one of those pens, sand paper and sprue cutters too..

... And this one looks incredible!
>>
>>5702714
Good choices anon, good choices. It warms my heart when I hear that someone buys a visor grunt.

Are you talking about panel lining pens? Yeah, definitely get one of those. Good luck anon, and happy building.

Also, yeah the Guntank is a nice bulky kit. Speaking of which, look up the Virtue and Gusion. Both are pretty damn bulky, and Gusion fits the 'bulky evil' theme you're looking for.
>>
>>5702716

I think the Gusion is going to be my first 1/100 kit - Not yet though, but I'll get it after I've decided if I like this hobby or not =].

Some of the preview pictures worry me though - they advertise the models as "grey" and I don't want that, I'm okay with the pre-painted stuff and just doing the panel lining, is it true that some come without paint?

I know that Guntank is grey but it's supposed to be.
>>
I want to get a Master Grade of the ZZ Gundam, but the current kit is so outdated. How likely would it be to see the ZZ get a 2.0?
>>
>>5702725
Grey? Where were you looking?
Maybe you saw the early prototype pictures that aren't colored

All gunpla (at least all the ones that aren't really old) are colored and don't require paint. It's best if you paint them, but it's not necessary, especially if you're just new to the hobby.

Wish I could have got them to send it with quicker shipping, I'll message and ask if they can do it faster but if not that'll do! Gives me something to look forward to.

>>5702746
I think they must have been prototype pictures.

The panel lining I think will add enough detail for me :).

Thank you again for the advice!
>>
>>5702749
Good selection. Be sure to build the GM first. It's much older than the Jesta so the build and articulation are a lot simpler, which also makes it a good first kit. If you built the Jesta first, you might end up being disappointed with the GM. It is neat though because it'll show you how much gunpla has improved over the years.

Anyway, welcome to the hobby.
Post your builds when you're done so we can all criticize you harshly and give tips.
>>
>>5702708
my first gunpla was the Jesta Cannon. Boy did i screw that up
>>
>>5702758

> Post your builds when you're done so we can all criticize you harshly and give tips.

I'll be sure to! I don't think I'd ever paint them (sadly) but you can happily criticism my pen-ability :P.

>>5702763

What makes you say that?
>>
Doh! I didn't consider I'd need different colour panel markers...

I'll just do black for the time being I guess!
>>
>>5702766
It has a lot of parts small parts and it was the first time i ever built a model kit. It doesnt look too bad unless i really analyze it though.
Have fun with yours, anon
>>
>>5702758
>...how much gunpla has improved over the years.

The quality of the HGUC series saw a vast improvement since 2005. Excluding the recolours of older tools, most of the kits from that era still hold up favourably to present-day standards.
>>
I want to buy my first Gunpla Model Kit.
I want an RX-78-2 Master Grade but there are a lot of models. Any advice of which to get?
>>
>>5702829

If it's your first kit, I'd go for something like the RX-78-2 Ver.Ka. The RX-78-2 3.0 is a better kit but it's a much more difficult build for a beginner.

The Ver.Ka has a different design to the rest of the RX-78-2 kits too, so if you decide to buy the 3.0 later you won't feel like you're getting the same kit twice.
>>
>>5702840
I should add it's MY first kit but I built one with my friend before. Does that change your answer or no?
>>
>>5702829
The RX-78-2 2.0 would be better for a beginner, but I'd recommend the Zaku 2.0 before that if you are going into MGs first.

Anyone know if Gunpla Markers will be of any use filling in the red spots on this guy? I took off the red stickers in his shoulder because I thought they looked a little ugly (ironically I don't mind the chest sticker) but I may have shot myself in the foot by doing that, since normal fine-tip pens won't work there.

I'm gonna throw in my two cents and recommend the OYW version instead of these. Its better than Ver Ka, cheaper than 2.0, it's articulate, has good accessories and over all solid kit.
All three are great, but OYW gets my vote.
>>
>>5703326
OYW has the best RX-78 head proportions IMO
>>
>>5703316
Like a metallic color or like the thruster afterburn colors?
Steel, Gunsteel or simple Aluminum works.
For the afterburn effect, you'll want some sort of clear blue, clear orange and clear red for a "currently hot" effect or something like their JEt Exhaust or some dirty looking dark color for the after effect. Could've sworn they made a clor shifting paint that went from blue-red though
>>
>>5702368

>>
>>5703728
Sharpies and Gundam Marker would work and cover it up, but it'll be a weird tinge of red.

Get a piece of the runner / open it up and try it on the underside to see the results.

you can always rub Sharpies and GM's off with rubbing alcohol.
>>
>>5703110
>>5703728
So, you want to know if the gundam markers would work on the bare plastic, to replicate the effect of the stickers? Is that what you are asking?
If so, the answer is yes. Generally speaking, red paint by itself covers dark colored plastic poorly, so I would recommend painting the area white first. Whether that is using a white gundam marker or paint from a jar is up to you.

Hey guys, I'm the guy who asked about Tamiya Cement last thread for 1/12 Little Armory stuff.

I got the cement and used, assembled a few guns and it's been a huge success.

Two questions tho, is it possible to remove the overglue? I kinda hamhanded the first gun and it's kinda whitish. In the same gun I also glued the aim in reverse cause I got confused with the drawing (I know, I'm retarded). Any way to remove it easily? Hot water maybe?

Sorry for being a newbie. Also, is it okay to use this kind of glue on Gundams? Thinking about getting some kits, this is so much fun.

>>
>>5703981
You're gonna have to sand it. Plastic cement works by melting the plastic it touches, which then welds together, squeezing the overflow plastic out of the spot glued. It works fantastically for removing seam lines, including ones on gunpla, but to break that seam again you're gonna need a knife.
>>
>>5703984
noticeable seams on the legs look kinda bad, and the little side launchers on the side of the head look unpainted(?) which really is offputting.

>>
>>5704094
It's all Tamiya cans actually. Dark Blue/USAF Light Gray/Dull Red/German Grey, for the body. and the Wash and smaller details like the head camera are Citadel paints. You can easily see it's painted by comparing the shoulder cannon to the stock kit.
>>
>>5704131
Ah derp, my bad. Meanwhile I've just cleaned a few parts of my Korchima in prep for painting before snap-fitting the whole thing.
Citadel makes washes? Which would you recommend? I'm considering trying wash-lining on this kit.
>>
>>5703983
>>5704131
If it's supposed to be weathering, I'd apply more to the edges basically like post shadding.

From the pics it looks like unthinned brushed on paint. But I don't know, maybe take another pic in better lighting.
>>
>>5703154
Those nubs stand out. Maybe some weathering and a dull coat can hide them though.

I kind of like the color, but I feel like there should be some variation.

Also, I only recognize like half of those movies playing. And I shitpost on /tv/ all the time.

If you're going to go that far most people usually just scratchbuild them with more detail and sometimes LEDs added.

IMO, it'd be easier just to mask. Like >>5705110 said, just paint red, mask the shape, and then paint everything else black. Easier than engraving a bunch of lines and then still having to paint it. Plus, the red lines on Ea don't really have any depth.
>>

>>5705254
Yeah, scribing would make for some really thin lines anyway. I'm a scrub so I'm gonna have to take some liberties with the pattern.

What you can do for the pattern is put the masking tape on those paper-sized transparent pieces of plastic, cut the pattern, peel the tape from the plastic, and apply it to the sword.

You do realize that "1/100" isn't a set size and that their own 1/100 Frame Arms line (Who are often used to model MSG parts) is between typical HG and MG in size right?

Koto's MSG stuff can be hit or miss in terms of scale depending on the specific kit you are looking at using the part towards, even if it's listed as 1/100.

It would still help if anon specified exactly what kit he wanted the hands for though.

>>5706387
When painting details like that (with a pencil), is it better to just use a drop of unthinned paint or still thin your paint?
>>
>>5706394
Thin slightly.
I tried painting from a citadel pot with a fine brush, and it was too viscous and the paint refused to part with the brush in small amounts. You'll get none or all at once, not to mention your brush is so dry you leave streaks of paint instead of a smooth line.

Admittedly I might be just lacking in technique

it's good and bad. good as in it looks good once built. but when you try to pose it it's annoying. the transforming gimmick makes the legs hard to move and pose without them coming out of the plastic clip that holds them in. and its also a pain to make it stand up because of the heavy backpack and because the feet don't stay solid because of the transforming gimmick. posing is also limited because you have to use the stand that it comes with. it looks cool when its standing next to the MKII with the bases snapped together though.

I like it, but you would be right in being worried about the transforming gimmick. I transformed it once and never did it again. It's a real pain in the ass to do so and the result isn't even that impressive. The instructions don't help at all either, but I'd look up a video on how to transform it and do it yourself. Only then will you understand how the all joints are (and aren't) supposed to connect in MS mode. I'd say go with the RG if you really like the wave rider mode.

In mobile suit mode it's decently posable. The only consistent issue I had was were the legs connect to the waist, but once you jam it in just right it stays put. If anything, pick it up because Zeta Gundam is best Gundam.

Hey so sorry, but I have a few questions. I just purchased cutie online for like 20 bucks, the only problem is that I don't like some of the stickers she comes with and wanted to try my hand at painting her details. The only problem is that I've only really painted warhammer minis, and I feel like I've bitten off more than I can chew. Anyway my question is how would I go about painting it? Is there any specific paints or would acrylics work? Do I need to prime it or does it stick fine? And if it doesn't need primed would it need a gloss coat to protect it? Most likely these are dumb questions but I've never painted a model like this where the parts come colored, Like I've said, I've only primed and painted warhammer minis
>>
>>5708214
>>5708215
isn't that pretty much the same technique as using one of the markers and wiping away the excess? excuse my ignorance.
>>
>>5708225
Nah. One's ink, one's paint. The ink, that is to say the markers, have a pretty chunky-sized nib, making it tricky to get into tiny areas. While the marker can leave inconsistencies due to say, a speck of dust in the felt tip, the paint can leave inconsistencies due to say, having left the jar open a bit too long and having the paint and thinner separate.
>>
>>5708224
SSDD. Biggest difference is in the size. Also, I HIGHLY suggest priming, it'll help you a lot. If you've got an airbrush though, you'll have an even easier time versus handpainting. For the most part though, the same paint you'd use for minis will work.

Yeah you better be fucking sorry for buying that abortion of a kit.

>>5708229
Thanks! Also I believe she has some softer rubber parts, her skirt I think, should i Prime away on that or just avoid it?
>>
>>5708247
Runner will tell you what type of plastic it is. Just go from there, I know one type of plastic, ABS I think, doesn't like certain types of primer.

fumikane's custom was kinda shit too, so no big difference
>>
>>5708269
Its not too bad
>>
>>5708253
Yeah, ABS gets really angry with some lacquer and enamel thinners, and tends to shatter.

>>5708224
You'll probably want a flat coat at the end to protect it. Gloss on Super Fumina would be weird. Also Acrylic's fine, the only issue with it is with moving parts, and some acrylic primers are ass for these kind of things. As much as I love Vallejo's paints in general, their primer is a bit sucky for gunpla.
>>
>>5708247
>>5708253

Super Fumina uses that shitty rubber for the headband and skirt. You can't paint them as the paint will not stick to it and will rub off easily. Also be careful removing nubs from it as it gouges easily and they cannot be fixed.

>>5708311
>and skirt.

I mean apron.

Well that's gross.

Thank you guys, one last question, should I prime the parts in the sprues or assemble them first
>>
>>5708435
Don't do shit to models when they're on the runners, are you crazy
>>
>>5708435
Well, there's no real sense priming them on the spruces as you'll just have to re-prime them after (nub removal and such)

So I've been considering picking up a Tsugumori figure for a while now, absolutely adore the design.

Now, I've built gunpla for a decade, but Koto never rubbed me the right way for quality plamo. There's also a Riobot and Figma version out there, what do you guys think is the best choice?

Or maybe I'll just save for the Chogokin GaoGaiGar Instead.
>>
>>5708439
This.
>>
>>5708463

Riobot version is by far your best choice if you're really into it.
>>
I have some old Evangelion kits that were made back when you had to paint to get it to look like the completed model in the instructions, Don't have a camera right now, but imagine this except completely molded in red. What's the best kind of paint to use for something like this if I'm planning on just using brushes? I don't want to spend a lot on Mr Color or something fancy only to realize I can get the same colors in 15 minutes by going to a hobby store. Sorry for not gundam but I'd like to use this kit as a way to get into painting.
>>
>>5708523
Vallejo is the best for handpainting. Other than that try Citadel or Testors enamels.

Not the other anon, but your acting like a douche towards him and he is right in what he is saying. If he is content with the level of his building than thats fine. There is no reason for you to act high and mighty about your own just because you think your better.

Just be glad people are actually trying to get into gunpla in the first place instead of brushing everyone off that isn't part of the 1337-club-mac-profest.
>>
>>5708581
I made new effects to replace the shitty ones the booster came with. Side effect being that the model with them is like 15-16 inches wide now.

I'll post pictures probably saturday after I can do a photoshoot.

There's also a sort of plavsky effect that shows up under focused light, no idea if I can catch that well with my camera though outside of video.

I'm going to assume you meant new RG frame, in which case the last one was the Red Frame Astray, which came out last year.

Just pre-ordered this. By dalong page I guess it will be a very fun plamo, especially the plastic rivets, it is one of the few robot plamo to have them as far as I know.

Also, a lot of restocks of Votoms stuff from Wave and Bandai, if you guys want to buy some of them you should hurry, because we don't get them too often.

I have the riobot and the older koto kit. The riobot is great, but with kinda weak shoulders, The koto kit is ok, nothing to really make it special since its mostly flat panels. I've heard the figma is good, and there's a new koto kit with the sword, but as >>5708471 said, Riobot, would be my reccomendation. Good luck finding one under 100 through.

After building four MG gundams, I can't help gut feel that nearly ever last one of them has had some out of the box mold/tolerance issues that borderline ruin the figure.

MG Gundam Deathscythe's skirt pieces fly off at a moments notice and his wings don't slot together when you fold them cloak style as shown in the instructions without a generous amount of fiddling and force. Granted, this was my first MG build so some issues are to be expected.

Gundam Exia Dark Matter has a wrist joint that constantly sinks in too far during posing causing the hand to fall off and she has a terrible time grasping any of her weapons. On top of that her hip holsters for her big badass swords like to stress the hip joint unnecessarily. and have caused it to pop apart while getting them out or putting them away.

My latest build, Gundam Unicorn 02 Banshee, has an ankle that refuses to hold together during posing and the transformation to Destroy Mode is finnicky as fuck, also the waist refuses to hold tightly together and often separates top and bottom during posing and transformation.

My Gundam XX is the one with the least panels, only problem is his arm flap pegs like to pop out of their sockets a bit much.

Honestly I have a lot less trouble with the HG scale, no real problems there. But they are just so tiny, it's hardly satisfying to build and they look far less impressive.

Are these problems just a part of the hobby or is it a flaw in my construction?

Also, The Exia frame looks extremely feminine to me for some reason. I don't know why.
