I still have all of my Dragon Ball figures from back in the day, and a shit ton of those Dragon Balls.
I remember going to EB Toys as a kid and only being able to get one dbz figure, they had that Goku and the Vegeta from that line. I remember seeing reddish paint in the lines between Goku's hair spikes and thought it looked like blood in his hair. Still went with SS Vegeta, who became a staple in my DBZ figures while I later got a much better articulated SS Goku figure. Goku's crotch eventually came apart and his legs would fall off, it went back together but I had to be conscious of moving his legs too much.

They were some good ass days.

It's not as odd in hand. I've put the difference in hair shading aside because this line is terrible at hair consistency anyway. Its closer to Awakening Goku or SS Gohan(to name two that I'm displaying it next to) than any of those are to Vegetto, who probably has the most different looking SS hair of anyone. At worst it looks like it's being lit differently, but its not a huge deal.

I had him but I sold him to a buddy since he wanted a Vegeta and I'm just gonna suck it up and get an original release. He's not bad and since Trunks has a similar styling and you can play it off as a "royal bloodline" type deal with the hair, but he just didn't sit right with me.

Toriyama has exactly four character types he draws: Strong guy, fat guy, skinny guy, and girl. Then he just scales their size a little to make them look different.

Strange characters like Beerus are great, because it looks like he actually put some effort into a design, instead of busting out one of the four stencils listed above.

Nam is literally "strong guy" body type. Krillin is "Strong guy, but shorter."

His designs were more varied really early on, but half of the early dragonball monsters/animals/creatures/designs are almost indiscernible from his Chrono Trigger/Dragon Quest monsters. Pilaf and Garlic Jr. are just the CT Imps, for fuck's sake.

And you may be right about the earlier stuff, I'll give you that, but once you hit mid-late Dragonball, and all throughout DBZ, you'd be really hard-pressed to argue this. Practically the only thing different at that point is character heights, and sometimes they a color change (like Piccolo is just "Green strong guy" and whatnot.)

Gotenks is easily one of my favorite DBZ characters. He's exactly what you'd get if you gave a 7 year old goofball night unlimited power.

I have the Figuarts Zero SSJ3 statue which is a really good likeness of the character. If they were to do a regular release of the character, I'd love a regular hair/SSJ version. Hell, a boxset with Kid Trunks and Goten (also with alternate SSJ heads) would be a dream come true...but I know it'll probably never happen.

The point of that whole fight was Vegeta/Trunks' attempt to surpass Super Saiyan.
They found a new form beyond it (which Vegeta didn't push too hard cause it sacrificed speed BECAUSE of the added muscle mass, which Trunks didn't realise).
Goku ended up finding a better solution, which was to just be regular Super Saiyan but making it the natural state, which is far less muscular.
The muscle mass comes with USS, hence never seeing it again.

Yup you are right. My understanding is that Vegeta and Trunks tried to be a stronger SSJ by shifting their stats, like more Ki and strength but by sacrificing others. But their total number was not really changed, so they haven't really surpassed SSJ1.
Goku knew that the base stat balance of SSJ1 is the best state, so he tried to make SSJ1 more natural and efficient state to be in, building tolerance to their bodies so it would be possible to go one step further.

Both were methods into unleashing the full potential of SSJ1, but only when Gohan changed completely to SSJ2, he finally surpassed being a SSJ.

Frankly I didn't even knew they named those states, I just saw them as SSJ1 (or called them Super Vegeta/Trunks to be really specific).

I bought the PC Vegeta and am so so unhappy with how he looks next to original release goku and Cohan. PC Vegeta looks like a bootleg and out of place.

The funny thing is no matter how angry I am at getting shafted like this by BANDAI, it fucking works. I will be buying this new vegeta so I can have something that looks good next to my other Saiyans.

Learned my lesson though. NEVER buying a PC again, I'd rather pay scalper prices than have something on my shelf that looks out of place next to others in the line.
