How hard are they to piece together? Are the instructions clear for a non-moonspeaker?

The instructions are like 99% diagrams and pictures, so language isnt an issue.

As for difficulty, they're not too bad and look alright without paint, but like gunpla, even just some detailing and a topcoat goes a long way. You wont need to go full on putty and stuff like a military modeler unless you want to, you can just snap and go if you want.

Since the parts are all colored plastic with no paint apps you'll be missing the small color details that the promo pics have. The Materias are a pretty good buy, though. Quick build, don't really need anything to look good but still benefit from a little touch-up. Plus I'm in love with the new hip/pelvis assembly. I only got mine to do a little custom project but if there's ever a re-release down the line I seriously might buy a few more just to swap out the butts and thighs of my Gourai and Stylet.

And it was funny how a year ago this general was so very tentative about this whole thing. IIRC the general sentiment with Gourai's release was that 'ok so not really the shinki replacement we all wanted, and has some issues with these joints here and there.' then it just exploded around when they revealed the materia. I was just having the same thought. Wouldn't even need to do any heavy work on them either. Just two weeks filling seams with some putty made from the runners, a small paint touch up on the details, a panel wash, a light blush, and a flat clear coat. Given the prices FAGs go for and how popular baselard seems to be I wouldn't be surprised if you could flip something like that for over a hundred.

Koto improves crazy fast honestly, not long ago you wouldn't recommend Koto kits without some experience but now they're honestly not that far off from Bandai's quality and friendliness

But I mostly just love what they offer, even if they're on the more expensive side of things they experiment will all kinds of IPs and concepts, they make plamo of stuff you'd never imagine. They also never settle for leaving pieces hollow or giving stickers to meet a budget like Bandai does, they understand who buys plamo and while they do strive to get things looking nice out of the box, they aren't afraid to throw in waterslides or focus on better sculpts over crazy engineering.

That's why I vastly prefer them.
They actually bother with things like Demonbane, Virtual On, Zoids, Casshern or ZoE while Bandai craps out one Zaku or Gundam with a new hat after another, with occasionally another line along the way but only if the planets are properly aligned.

Don't get me started on zoids. The insane amount of improvements theyve made since Hasbro/ Takara is insane. Even if a piece of armor is hidden there's a good 90% chance it detailed on that hidden side. A shame how long it takes to develop/ plan a model.

One of my shinikis thigh is lose, is there any way to make it not lose? It keeps popping out of the socket and its starting to annoy me a bit. Also the pegs that connects to the neck is also lose and the head keeps popping off sadly

They used to call it Pledge with future shine back when I bought my bottle years ago that I'm still using but I think the kind you want is branded differently now. It's good for brushing on toys joints to thicken them up for a tighter fit.

Before buying a model kit to to the gunpla General and read their guide three times. It will give you a good idea of what it takes to make a kit look ok.

You have to do that anyways with just putty too. It's an inevitability that you have to surface and resurface a model kit when trying to get rid if seamlines.

Just the method mentioned above with melted sprues in cement is kind of putting both welding and putty into one.

There are plenty of eye shut decals out there. Currently working on a Gourai resin kit using Materia parts and I'm turning one of those open mouth faces into a sleeping face. I'll post pics when it's done.

Can't decide if the other should be a super happy Gourai or an angry Gourai, though.

So these model things are fairly recent right? I barely see anything else for them compared to Shinikis.

A line that started last year by Kotobukiya. They are mecha musume versions of their Frame Arms model kits, which are all original designs with no source material that all utilize the same inner frame.

The first one (Gourai) was released last year in the spring and seems to have been to sort of test the market. It was an explosive success and Koto acquired the Shinki license and is making model kit versions of them as well as continuing the frame arms girl line.

You're confusing a portion of the people interested in FAGs with regular plamo builders.

They don't build model kits, and are actively turned off and by having to build them. They just want a cute mecha musume figure but can't get what they want from it just out of the box.

Also, you would be surprised what second hand pre-built or partially built models can sell for. It's often not its original value but it definitely isn't a 90% drop either.

Her armor puts her somewhere below Stylet. About the same level of bulk, without any of the fins and wings and shit.
