How do D-Arts stack up against Figuarts?

I just bought pic related. The MFC entry states that it's technically an S.H.Figuarts but it seems to share a lot of parts with the D-Arts God Eater figures, which I've never owned (and I never see anyone post about them on /toy/)

I only ask because the paint apps and overall quality control on my AGP Atago are really shitty compared to my Figuarts, I'm hoping Alisa won't be the same. Bandai's QC seems to be quite erratic across different lines.

D-arts are pretty much like Figuarts, but a different brand name (which is why Bandai later ditched the name and brought it into the same line). Most D-arts tend to be lousy in terms of QC though, but I think that particular figure seemed to be one of the better ones.

Skinny upper thighs (this seems to be becoming a regular issue with Figuarts), helmet lens slightly off, torso armour not quite the right shape/proportions, and the biggest issue - midsection utility pouches about half the size they should be, wrong shape and orientation.

yeah I was a little annoyed I was forced to get it with the speeder but it's so good that if I hadn't gotten it I'd be pissed. There are a lot of little movable parts on it too. The handle bars fold away for storage, they also have a piston for up and down movement but the two sides seem to be linked.
The brake flaps have a slide hinge so they can sit flush with the bike when closed and the pouch on the back can come off for whatever display reason that needs. the stand has a substitute piece for when it's not in the bottom of the speeder for when you want to display it not floating and upside down I guess.

Articulation is pretty standard figuarts articulation.
Arms have two swivels; forearm and bicep.
shoulder pads are like the clone trooper.
torso has two ball joints at top and bottom.
hips are standard globe joints, forward and back movement and the hips can spread pretty far apart.
thigh swivels.
double jointed knees, knee pads are attached to the bottom half of the leg.
Ankles have swivels where they attach to the calves, rockers for back and forth and side to side movement and toe joints.

Drawing a pose without reference is super easy. Just draw basically a stick man figure, a line frame person, then add on top of that.

What is tricky, is maintaining the proportion of the human body from the view point of your drawing. That's when looking at a model helps, so what is more important is having the right proportion.

Not sure what SM ones you saw but I have all of the Guardians, Chibiusa, Super SM, and Tuxedo Mask and they are fuckin' immaculate.

It's much harder to get something like Usagi's face and costume just right than armor or involved detail, ironic but any artist will tell you the same. 0 margin for error and the SM ones are god tier. I have seen a review where the person got a Mercury with a sloppy paint application but that's universal on occasion to all figures. Their skin finish is exactly the right satin feel and their clothing is matte where it should be and slightly pearlescent where it should be.

I am considering going after a few Lucky Star Figmas but after being spoiled, I am not sure I will bother. But I love the characters and the pictures I have seen look incredible. Anyone have them? I hear a lot of people trash Figma for some reason but they seem great.

This will be a very noobish question but how difficult is model building exactly? I've always been interested in them but I haven't really dived in.
Working with small details doesn't bother me, I often sculpt miniatures.
Do the pieces click together or do you glue them in?

It depends on what kind of kit you get, but a lot of the time the pieces will just click together/the kit will be pre-painted. It can seem a little daunting but it's a lot easier than you might expect, especially since they come with fairly specific instructions. I'd say go for it and try it if you haven't before, maybe start with a simple Bandai Gundam kit if you're worried about how hard it will be or if you'll like it. Good luck!

You'll need x-acto knife and a pair of nippers at minimum. Then it just depends on the kit, as >>5635563 said. Bandai kits are generally the easiest as they have great molded detail and snap together with no glue required. Other manufacturers may be different.

Basically she's this mysterious character that never speaks or takes the helmet off like The Stig, and her supervision is the only reason the Principal allows the Motorcycle Club in Bakuon. It's revealed that she and the Principal were in the previous Motorcycle Club, but during a big race they fucked up a minor part of their maintenance and Raimu's bike exploded right before the finish line.

The Principal follows up the flashback with "That was Twenty Years ago". So she's basically in her late 30s but can at least pass a 18 from the neck down and has a fake ID that says she's a student.

Not really sure what amount of "effort" would have improved them. Visually they are perfect. As in, couldn't be better or truer to the characters.

If I changed anything, it would be to allow the ankles to bend further but that would probably be a mistake because it's such a fine line between having enough range of motion to create all the iconic poses (which they do) but keep the delicate simplicity and not have a million weird extra joints for the sake of it.

As an aside, they aren't marketed to foreigners particularly anyway...some of them were Japan webstore preorder exclusives blah blah blah. It's not like they were in anything resembling mass market...no one got them who didn't go looking for them.

Since Jango Fett is finally up I'm predicting Clone and Droid variants for Star Wars. As well as the Super Battle Droid to be released near December. Grievous is Episode 3 technically and I'm sure they have plenty announce for that Episode. Last bunch of images we saw all had things for Episode 2 mostly so next Toy Expo I feel we'll probably see a slew of Episode 3 characters.

I'm looking forward to Grievous and some more Droids. I'm crossing my fingers for an ass load of Clone Trooper Phase 2 variants.

As for Marvel, I have no idea.
