Here's the current BJD thread:
>>5576945

Stay away from ebay, nowadays it's full to the brim with recasts (fakes, bootlegs).
Stick to this list:
http://bjdcollectasy.com/companies-other-links/

200$ is not a lot of money for a MSD.
You need to pay for the doll itself, the face-up, clothes, shoes, eyes, wig and of course shipping.
Depending on where you live taxes might need to be added too.
Even if you pick a very cheap base doll (like from Resinsoul, Angel of Dream, Impldoll, Dikadoll and co.) you will still need to spend more than 200$ to cover all costs.
You should at least have a budget of 350$, and that still barely covers everything.

For the rest, ask in the BJD thread
>>
>>5586852

Save more money than $200 or just don't even bother considering entering this bjd hobby.

Tip is save more money and buy your first msd that you really like. (try $800 - 1k USD range for Hina Ichigo <_<;;;)
>>
Old general is on autosage, declarin' this new /bjd/ general.

>>5586852
>>5586857
$200 isn't actually unusual (that's what most 'standard' MSDs like Kid Delf etc used to cost, and will still get you a fairly cute doll), but OP should start off with at least $300 so the doll can get a faceup, wig, eyes and at least one outfit.

Asleep Eidolon, Planetdoll, or a used Volks MSD from Mandarake are all going to be cute and ~$200, but you should save up first (maybe buy accessories first while saving for the doll).

I'm looking at going to a large convention in Melbourne at the end of the year. By then I will have my Snow Miku DD and since I'm not a seagull I'm keen on taking her with me. Never been to a convention before, does anyone have any tips? I'm from a rough area so I'm super paranoid about theft.
>>
>>5595014
BFB is pretty rad, no h8.
>>
>>5595032

honestly? if you're really concerned about theft, i probably would just leave her at home. it might be a lot easier
>>
>>5595036
This is actually good advice. Maybe keeping an eye on the doll will detract from my experience. I was hoping to find other doll people by bringing her along.
>>
>>5595052

it sucks, but cons can get crowded. people can bump into you and it's easy to get stuff stolen. love and cherish your miku, don't expose her to sweaty con-goers
>>
>>5595032
Nobody's going to snatch her out of your arms, anon. Doll thefts occur when the doll is out of people's line of site, so...don't let her get out of your sight. Ex. don't set her down in a bag and turn your back for a sec, or if you need to leave a meet to drink water or bathroom or something then pack her up and take her with you, it sounds basic but stuff like this is how every single doll theft you may have heard about has happened.

Well that's good because that's how I treat my handbag in shopping centres and public events, even if I'm with friends or family. Yesterday someone did a snatch and run at the grocery store I was in. I'm prepared for that.

I can imagine that it might be tough having a meal or buying something with a doll under your arm, especially with such a long wig. Maybe a carry case would be a good way to keep her safe, but then I just see myself getting too distracted/paranoid and not taking her out. It might not be worth taking her, as other anon said. Do any anons know if there's much of a doll community in Melbourne? It's one of the biggest cities here so I'm assuming there is.

>>5595055
I see your point. Ideally nobody would touch the doll but me, but I didn't know it would be so crowded. I've already been waiting for this doll for over a year so maybe it isn't worth it.
>>
>>5595083
i heard some people tie string or something to the doll's waist underneath the doll's clothes and tie the other end to their wrist/table leg (if the doll is on display) so that should someone try to grab the doll they can't as easily. obviously its not a true failsafe but it could give you time to slap their shit and stop them.

>>
>>5595083
>>5595117
How about combine the two ideas? Get a simple canvas type tote bag that she can stand in and look like she's leaning out of it to say hi. Do the string trick to tie her to the bag strap. If it gets worrysome, you can set her down inside, and you can set the bag safely between your knees while eating. Also as someone whos done this, keep a little bag with a hair net, a small comb, and a magic eraser in it with you. If you decide to put her completely in the bag just loop the hair net over her wig and she'll stay safe. Magic eraser because con people are dirty fuckers.

Also two things that help should someone attempt to take her and it becomes a 'whos doll is it' situation when security comes: small identifying item that thief won't notice but you can easily bring up (a small note with your name in her headcap, a human size ring on her wrist that you have a matching one to, something silly like an underwear tag with her/your name), and take some pictures of her in other outfits or at your own home a few days beforehand.
>>
>>5595128
Honestly I think they just assumed you were a super well known artist (you have really nice unique faceups, and you were in that contest at the time so they probably remembered reading your name somewhere) and therefore they could unleash a good amount of delicious drama about some big name DoA darling being on 4chan.

The pose stand stick is kinda handy, but only good for standing poses mostly since it's just an extending stick. Also she's stuck with a port on her back because of it, but I guess it's better than a colostomy bag port or something...

I like this idea. I'd probably braid her pigtails just for convenience's sake, or get a different wig that I can cut shorter. But I can't imagine it ever coming down to a whose-doll-is-it scenario, has that ever happened? The convention isn't specifically aimed at dolls but at anime in general. I do like the idea of tagging her clothes, I might put my name and phone number on the inside of her shirt or something.

>>
>>5595032
I brought dolls twice to a convention (okay, and once to LDoll), regretted it every time.
It's full, loud and people won't be careful.
If you carry her, your hands are always occupied, you can't really look at things, eat or go to the toilet without always having to ask for help. If you bring a bag I can tell she will probably stay in there (scenario on my second attempt), and in the end you will ask yourself why you even carried her around the whole day.
It's also exhausting after a while, even if it's just a vinyl doll.

Add the risk of staining/damaging her or someone stealing her and you have a stressful con day.

If you want to bring her, only do it for a few hours. If you are there by car or your hotel is close just bring her with you for a few hours and then store her there for the rest of the day.
Maybe check if there's a doll meet.

Just ask yourself, would you also carry your laptop (or something equally big, expensive, fragile and annoying to carry after hours) through masses of weebs if there's no real need to do so?
>>
>>5595742
>If you want to bring her, only do it for a few hours. If you are there by car or your hotel is close just bring her with you for a few hours and then store her there for the rest of the day.

This. Do this. I have taken my dolls to several cons, but usually only hang onto them for a few hours. I usually just carry them in the crook of my arm, but I also only own MSDs, so there's that. After whatever event I intended them for, they go back to the room or car.

That said, last local con I went to, I almost punched a guy because he got super obnoxiously close to me in a mostly uncrowded and large hall, and nearly elbowed my doll out of my arm.
And the last con I went to, some lady on the street stopped me, PUT HER HAND STRAIGHT DOWN ON MY DOLL, looked me in the eye, and asked "What event are you attending?"
LADY GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY DOLL.
>>
>>5595032
I'm from Melbourne and do the con scene, and honestly bringing a doll along was such a fucking pain in the ass. Even if your doll isn't heavy, it gets tiring holding a 60cm long item in your arm, making sure it doesn't get dirty, losing any accessory or fucking up the wig when walking around the con and having little to no seating. Even with a carry case, you're going to worry about carrying a 60cm+ bag.
The only time I would bring it is if you know a doll meet is happening and a friend can watch your shit and there's a place to rest.
Also yeah, there's a big BJD community in Melbourne and there's a BJD event in May.
melbournebjdemporium(.)com/

There's a few other doll events too including the Halloween Extravaganza, Malvern Doll show and Doll and Bear show but there's usually only 1-3 BJD stalls, and they may not even cater to your Anime tastes lol.

There's a fb group too for Melbourne BJD collectors but its kind of slow at times but from what I've seen everyone is normal enough lol.
Just search for Melbourne Ball Jointed Dolls on Facebook for the group.

I know there's at least one guy who collects DDs and who usually brings his fullset dolls to the Emporium event and Halloween Extravaganza, but I'm not sure if anyone else has any anime dolls.

This is why I need to move to Melbourne.

And hey don't get me wrong, most of my dolls are resin, I just figured Miku would suit a con better because vinyl is lighter, not sensitive to sunlight and everyone knows who Miku is.

Sounds like it's not worth the risk of taking her to a con, but maybe it would be fun taking a doll to Melbourne to take some nice photos of her in the city setting. Every time I go to Melbourne I see people with crazy hair and crazy clothes and I won't even be alone so I don't think it will be a problem.
>>
>>5595742
This happened to me at Wondercon simply because I was going to meet up with someone but could never find them so I had my doll in my backpack the whole time and didn't feel like carrying her in a big crowd of people.
>>
>>5595761

Agreed, I've brought my doll to doll cons in the past and it really no fun. I much prefer to go doll less or bring a tiny with me. It's really hard to shop with a doll in your arms and people can get pretty handsy when you have an SD in your arms.
>>
>>5595706
>he convention isn't specifically aimed at dolls but at anime in genera
That's actually way more likely for theft. Lots of people who have either no idea its valuable and think you won't try to search for it or hold them accountable and just want it cus its cute, or lots of people whos only knowledge of dollfies is the older and more rare dolls being scalped on Amazon for $8k+, yet don't know about the hobby being so diligent on spotting stolen dolls on Ebay. You also need to factor in that at anime cons the average age drops, and that the younger congoers are tryhard edgy little shits that shoplift from Hot Topic. I used to vend at cons and at the larger ones you have to watch your shit like a hawk.
>>
>>5597315
Also adding my boyfriend took his DD to SDCC once for a doll meet and someone tried to steal it out of his backpack as they walked through the crowd.
>>
>>5595798

It's actually pretty common for doll collectors to photograph their dolls around Melbourne. I've only had people be interested in what I was doing rather than be harassed or heckled for it so it's not much of an issue. I would still do it with a friend or two in case someone does act like a jackass though.

A while ago I had a Farkas here for commission.
The doll was sent straight from LS to me, so I got to unpack it and "play" with it before taking it apart for airbrushing.

Nice, solid resin, no seamlines, good posing even with fantasy parts on, was a dream to paint.
Very heavy and thick too.
They also packed the shit out of the box, lots of padding, extra layers and tape.
The only issue with them is that the faces are a bit of a hit or miss (you really need to like the style) and that the wait times are long.
Friend of mine got a dragon guy and waited 11 months for it, and the doll came blank.
I once ordered a blank head and even that took 4 months.

Unfortunately, that means if there's a problem (like they send you the wrong color), getting your new doll/handling the whole problem unfortunately takes equally long.
The dolls itself are of good quality though.
Still wish I could airbrush their huge sea snake guy one day.
>>
>>5598058
I don't know why receiving a blank doll takes so long. I mean, they already have the molds, so it's not hand-sculpted. I know they probably sand the doll down (especially around the seams), string it, etc.

I just don't get it.

I'm honestly not sure how many orders Loongsoul has or how popular they truly are (i.e. outside of the western forums/platforms).

I was pretty baffled after I saw a picture from Crocus (the sculptor of Granado), painting his current orders.
You can only order a face-up from him if you buy a full doll, and there were like 30+ painted heads on the table just of his newest release.
Which means at least 30 full orders, not counting orders of single heads, full orders without face-up or orders of other releases.
That's actually quite a lot, and I wouldn't put Granado in the "super popular" category.

A lot of companies also don't cast themselves, they have a factory who does it for them (Granado is such a company).
This factory casts for many other companies too, which is another good reason for a delay.
I use "factory" here, but we really don't know how big they are.
If you look at Haru Casting you might have like five people.

There was a while ago a message on the Mint on Card website about how it's harder and harder for Chinese companies to find people who are willing to sand dolls, even after they raised the loans, and that this was one reason for the delays.

And yes, they have the molds, i.e. every doll is just a copy of a master, but this master was hand-made at first.
Sanding a full doll also takes a shitton of time.
Afterwards glue in the magnets, string it, pack it.
Do that a dozen of times, while you also have to take care of orders with painting, clothes and whatnot.
You need to take photos of new releases, take care of customer questions, all the other shit like taxes, loans, paying bills, making orders for materials, contact to other artists (i.e., the ones who probably paint your dolls or sew their full-set outfits) and. so. on.
It's just way more than getting an order and tossing in some doll in a box.
Not to mention they also have weekends, nights and sick days and are usually like, three people at work.

On another sidenote: anyone here who ordered from Tata in the last weeks/months?

Made an order there, first in years, and a friend already warned me that they tend to take their sweet time and like to ignore your messages.
I always thought Tata was okay, they have been around for years and I had never heard anything bad about them (but, oh well, they already started to ignore my messages).

>>

>>
>>5597319
i totally believe this. the mentality of anime con going weebs leans toward immature, grabby shits. i can only imagine someone flying at a person holding a doll to "glomp" them, screaming "KAWAIII DOLLLLY"

it happens a lot to people just cosplaying a weeb favorite character, i hear of costumes getting ruined by it all the time.

at least a doll con or doll specific meet up, people have some idea that a doll is expensive and breakable. i would never take a doll to an anime con, unless it was in a secure carrying case, and i would only take it out during the doll meet, then package it up as soon as it was over and lock it in my room.

Talked it over with the friend I'm going with and we decided it would be best to leave Miku at home. It would just break my heart if anything happened to the doll I waited a year and a half for.

But I do have a Smart Doll that I love to bits who is much easier replaced if something bad should happen. Potato pic related is her in a tote bag. The bag has tiny straps so she's right up near my face and I can protect her. I will still experiment with typing her in there with string. Maybe she can be a Miku cosplayer for the day, who knows, got a few months to sort out a costume, wig and eyes.

luts style sells the old style girl bodies, since they still have the rights to CP/fairyland's original feeple60 bodies for their delfs.

the new body, though, is clearly better. those people who complained totally were blinded by their nostalgia goggles

It's the Flickr for people who suck at pictures and have no interest in putting in some effort.
Likewise, your followers will mostly be retards who only comment your stuff with smileys, "where do you get these dolls?!", "is it for sale?", "so prettyyyy" comments.
Most likely not BJD collectors and teenagers.

If you just want easy, stupid fans with zero effort, it's good.
If you aren't into a certain type of dolls, better stay away.
>>
>>5603145
>"is it for sale?"
why do people always ask that?
>>
>>5603152
Because they want that cute thing, but are too stupid to figure out where to get it.
They also don't care to find out, they just want some instant gratification instead of a full hobby, sometimes they think they become famous or be special.

In some cases they also can't believe that some people actually make things themselves.
If they finally get it they tend to be offended when people don't sell their stuff or want money for it.

Of course they all back away as soon as they hear it's more than 10 bucks.
>>
>>5601918

Hey, I wanted to break into this hobby but I'm dirt poor. I heard of people buying shit like Monster High dolls and doing faceups, is that acceptable enough, and/or what would be a good toy to do that?

>Pic unrelated. Don't know where it's from but the owner sewed the outfit.
>>
>>5604310
Not sure if bait, but I'll bite.

Monster High dolls are not BJDs. They're just Monster High dolls. They have their own general on /toy/, but I'm not sure how much talk of repainting goes on in there. There is some overlap between MH collectors and BJD collectors, but don't expect your MH doll to get you into BJD exclusive communities. Apples and oranges.

>>5594683 has the FAQ for some of the companies that actually are BJDs, and it's a pretty good place to start. Now, you might get tempted by a recast, but just know that it's not going to be $20 for a Chinese bootleg. That stuff is still pretty expensive at about $150-$200, so you're better off just saving up or getting something like a Pure Neemo.

By the way, you should note the sizes of these things. They're not going to be Barbie sized (usually). Most dolls fall into the 1/4 to 1/3 range, so they're much larger than you'd expect. If you're looking for something small, affordable, and with a similar aesthetic, I'd recommend checking out Pure Neemo dolls and Pullips (and Dal/Byul, J-Doll, etc.). I can't think of any realistic 1/6 dolls off the top of my head, so hopefully another anon can help there.

My last note is to wear a respirator when you spray the sealants used for painting dolls. Don't be the dumbass who holds their breath in or something. Not worth it.
>>
>>5602043
>>5602215
Pretty sure that's a meetup or something, not one person's collection (though perhaps the owners coordinated to try and dress one of each Miku outfit). It looks like a public place.

I've seen a lot of MH repaints. I'm not in the fandom so this is the only artist I know off the top of my head http://kamarza.deviantart.com/gallery/40918250/Monster-High-Repaints

If you're poorfag you could try sewing your own doll clothes. Here's a tutorial that covers the basics
http://rodianangel.deviantart.com/art/How-to-Make-Your-Own-BJD-Wardrobe-375558898
This artist has a lot of tutorials on simple doll clothes.

It doesn't have to be a huge investment. Buy clothes from thrift stores instead of stuff at fabric stores. Don't worry too much about making mistakes, the nice thing about making tiny stuff like doll clothes is you won't waste much fabric when you fuck up. You can buy those little sewing kits to get a variety of thread colors and some needles, but throw out the garbage scissors and do invest in a decent pair. Pretty much anything people sew on machines can be sewn by hand, it just takes longer. Tiny doll clothes are super hard to sew on a machine anyway, only insane people do it.

The one right above your post is the best example I've seen.

They don't really go on clearance, since they are cast when an order is placed. No extra stock = no clearance.

Second hand market is hit or miss. Sometimes it's $650 for a chipped and yellowed head, sometimes it's a sharpie stained ResinSoul for $160. My experience is that the market tends to error on the side of charging more than manufacture's price.

Occuasionally the companies have sales, which sometimes means $5-50 off an order of $200-$1000, but lately they've just been throwing in shitty gifts instead of doing real sales. I blame the collapse of the yuan.
>>
>>5605346

Actually, after digging around DOA's marketplace, there are some salvageable project dolls in the $150 range. They'd need a lot of work, and you'd probably end up spending an extra $50-100 to restore them, but it's doable.

I'd recommend getting an invite to DOA and getting marketplace access there. You might find the forums helpful for DIY and ideas while you wait for access.

My roommate has 2, actually. They're really nice, strange enough? They have AMAZING posing abilities (We've gotten her boy to stand while crouching, by using some high heeled feet.)
The only thing I'd say they're lacking in is fine detail. (The dicks kind of look like an afterthought, the fingers have noodle syndrome.) Also, their older ones tend to run on the side of egg-headed.
Impldoll is just...kinda a cheap brand for whatever reason. They're not bad, if super details aren't important to you. I rather love them.
>>

I don't have my finger on the pulse of BJD drama, why do people shit on Kayke? Is it the massive unprofessionalism of posting her breakdowns and doll business stuff on the same blog? Or is it something else?
>>
>>5606130
It's a mix.
She's a whiny drama queen, posts too much personal shit, can't handle her business (she tends to bite off more than she can chew, which leads to long delays, which leads to her whining about her health again).
She took money for a doll she hadn't even finished sculpting and she sent out the doll all lumpy and unfinished to the caster when people started to get impatient.
Not to mention her weird behaviour towards people with darker skintones, while she's as white as it gets.

It's just clear that she is in no position to have a business, but she won't stop because money.
She's unprofessional, unstable and not healthy.
It's just a matter of time till all of it will explode into her face.

>>5606105
It's a chinese company and their sculpting is a bit more "simple" at times, especially when you look at their bodies.
Very smooth, weird nipples, a bit wonky.
Faces are the same, but they get better and better.
Resin quality is good and they have great service.
I'm sure they will get better and start to become more expensive then too.
>>
That's sad to hear she's struggling with health and mental issues, but she definitely needs to take responsibility if she wants to run a business.

>New Year celebration ended on 2/23

Nigger New Years is on JANUARY 1ST. Most people are done celebrating by 4 AM.

> Plus a ridiculous amount of the workforce just doesn't come back to their job after the holiday.

Not sure what socialist shithole country you crawled out of, but here in Burgerland it's back to work on January second.
>>
>>5606227
Chinese New Year bruh.
>>
>>5606227
Alright, I'm taking the bait.

You know that Asian Ball Jointed Dolls are made in Asia, right?
And Volks USA is still run out of Japan?
They celebrate the lunar new year, which starts in February. Lots of workers go home for the two week holiday, where everything shuts down, including the state-run jobs, and something like 20% of the workforce just doesn't come back to their jobs.

>>5606214
Now, not sure if it's a socialist shithole or not, but I'm betting they're not CMMI certified and probably don't follow best practices. They keep shitty records, with localized, if any, back ups. No corporate redundancy.

Yeah I'm a huge Volksfag but the way they run their company is very much 'family business' even though the scale at which they sell is no longer practical to do so, and a lot of fuckery with Internet operations comes with it.

There was a hilarious screencap of a post on BJD Addicts about a doll person going up to a shapely black woman and gushing that they wanted to own a doll with a body type like hers, and the non-doll-collector woman understandably be like "the fuck, bitch" and the person was looking for sympathy/confused why she didn't appreciate the compliment, and it was fucking hilarious and now I imagine Kayke going up to random black women in public with the same attitude. It's...strange.

>>5606105
>>5606109
Nah, low prices because Chinese. Impl has really upped their quality in the last couple years; I now consider them one of the handful of "good" Chinese companies, like Angell-Studio. It's a pleasant surprise that theyve gone in that direction.
>>
>>5606656
That's so creepy. I have a few non-doll friends that know I collect dolls and would completely understand comments like that, but how the hell could you think that it was acceptable to approach a stranger and tell them that?

And yeah, Impl has gotten WAY better over the past few years. I'm really impressed with their new boy, Glenn, and the girl looks nice too. I might actually have to get a Glenn head; he'd be the first non-fantasy/non-anime doll I've gotten in a long time.
>>
>>5606656

The only thing that stops me from buying an impl is the shiney as fuck resin. Is there anyway to cut down on the shine?
>>
>>5606829
I don't think all their resin turns out that shiney. I have one of their YoSDs, and while I'd say he'ss a little bit shinier than some of my other dolls, it's really not as bad as some of their sales photos make it look.

You could probably coat the whole doll with a layer or two of MSC/Testors if you really wanted to cut back the shine though. It'd obviously rub off at the joints, but it'd help a bit.
>>
>>5603864
What colors are the Sprite & Mei and how much you want for them?
>>
>>5606347
Jeeryama is a dealer, they don't produce their own wigs. So you'd still have to ask the person offering to figure out what the brand actually is for people to give their comments on it.
>>
>>5606829
I've got 3 from them in different colours and can attest that not all of them are irredeemably shiny. But the ones that are, a thin coat of MSC fixes right up.
>>
>>5606656
This photo is giving me bad photoshop vibes cus the body is like Victoria's Secret model level but the head and hair looks exactly like my younger twin cousins who are skinny lanky 16 year old waifs.

This azone doll is listed as having a "Pure Neemo Flection Fully Posable S Body". I want to know how tall this doll is, but I only find conflicting information when I google it. Can anyone tell me the sizes/height for azone's models?
>>
>>5607386
Iplehouse Cherie and Yur must really upset you, anon.
>>
>>5607552
Azone stuff - PICCO NEEMO is 1/12, PURE NEEMO is 1/6, and the 48-50cm dolls should be 1/3 scale.

Thanks! I'm new to this but I'm interested in some of azone's dolls. Can I trust their quality?

so i'm putting in an order for a single pair of eyes from Silent Paradise. they're not very known, but they have a lot of options for eye sizes and styles. i'm one of the anons waiting for the Dollbakery 16mm small iris group order to get off the ground, which seems like it may or may not ever happen. while i vastly prefer Dollbakery, from what I've seen Silent Paradise looks pretty good, and I can get 16mm eyes with small irises. They even offer an option to get smaller pupils too. they're damn expensive for eyes, $80 a pair, but right now they are doing a sale so it's $65, which is about what i'd have to pay for custom eyes from Enchanted Doll or anywhere else so I went for it.

I think it's gonna take 2 months or so, I'll let you guys know how they are once I get them.

pic related are the ones i'm getting, except mine will have a small pupil for an edgier, more mature look.

anyone here have experience with Silent Paradise eyes?

I have a 1/6 scale obitsu body and I kind of want to replace the head for it. You guys know which heads could work with this doll?
>>
>>5608694
The obitsu body is commonly used to replace the bodies of pullips and blythes in order to make them pose better. I vaguely remember seeing something about nendoroid heads being put on them, but I might be confusing them with picco neemo bodies.

Also, I know I've seen mini dal/mini pullip put on the 1/6 bodies.
>>
>>5606105
I have a Martin head from back when they did that Facebook giveaway. They do lack fine detail, but I think it may be due to the fact they seem to use molds different from silicon. It's just far too smooth and shiny for it to be from a silicon mold. After a couple of layers of MSC it doesn't matter much anyway.

>>5606295
Oh god anon, I wish I knew.

>>5607577
I just got in a few picco and pure neemo bodies last week. Love them, except for their wrists. Unless you buy optional hands, it's alllllll jazzz handssss

I'm kind of a Soomfag, but never saw the appeal of Cuprit. Her lips are just so... not defined at all. She looks like she has FAS.

>>5608694
I have a parabox Kay head on mine. Was going to swap her to one of the pure neemo bodies, but neither skintone really matched. Some people hybrid Little Pullips on them with a little bit of modification. I ended up putting my Little Pullip's head on the Pure Neemo body and slid a cut down bread tab between the neck connector inside the head to keep it on.

Sorry I'm a little derp today

I'm planning on going to Japan next year or something, and would like to check out some doll specific stores if I can.
Nothing's solid yet, but does anyone have any guides or places they'd recommend?
I'd love to check out Licca Castle or the Azone store but trying to google the store location only brings up the online stores.
Also does Kiddyland have a decent doll section or should I give it a pass?
>>
>>5607556
Nah, they're babyfaced but seem more matching somehow. The Impl seems more narrow and the faceup style makes it look more angular too. Cherie and Yur's faces are more filled in, I guess.

There are so many different body sizes for 1/6 scale. Is it a Barbie? Is it a Hot Toys? Is it a MH? Is it a Pure Neemo? Some seamstressy people can only reliably do a couple of sizes. Since you wanted semi-form-fitting, it's pretty vague. Vests made from stretchy material like jersey would look like shit.

Because it's smarter to have a collection of tiny plastic figures that in the end cost equally as much as a small collection of completely customizable, huge dolls?

Honestly, I have friends who collect toys (everything from the PAK plebs to Figma/Revoltech/Nendos, Transformers, Hot Toys and co.), and they spend equally as much as I do.
Just that their purchases are usually several small ones every month while I buy one big doll every few months.

>>5611028
That just reads so....weird.
The whole blowjob part just made me go "what".
Why does she even have to ask how it tastes?!
Is it because she's from bumfuck Texas or what?
It's a body part that is constantly trapped in underwear, is being pissed out of and there was just a condom on it too, how should licking your forearm help you to prepare you for the taste?
Was she five or what?
>>
>>5611356
She was definitely a young child, if I remember correctly.

I'm all for being critical of Kayke but criticizing her weird tumblr post about being sexually abused as a kid seems a bit much. I assume she's telling the truth about it, even if her post did read like some weird fanfic.
>>
>>5611381
Young child as in 14 or under?
Because that sounds more like a "my first boyfriend was a dick to me" then "daddy did mean things to me while mommy looked away" post.

Even if she's telling the truth, her Tumblr is not the place to write some weird fanfic-esque re-telling of her rape experience, especially when she's trying to have a business too.
>>
My local group is tolerating political propaganda just because they have dolls in it.

This will sound stupid but get a Pinterest account. Theres a ton of Japanese doll book scans on there. Theyre all hosted on Google+ but hard to search for that way, where on Pinterest you just type in 'Dollybird" or whatever and they all come up.

I buy a lot of it at thrift shops. You really need the fashion quality fabric, which Joanns and other chain fabric stores are horrible at stocking. The sweatshirt material is usually called sports knit or thermal jersey. In my experience stretch denim will usually be thinner than regular denim, though fashion denim can be thin enough too.

Can't tell if this is gonna upload sideways or not, but here she is, shortly before her arm came apart.
So firstly I pulled the entire lower arm off but that was mostly to see how it fit together. If your girl is in one piece, I would just grab pliers and line up the elbow peanut to pop it back together. You can probably use your hands, but I'm weak so I used pliers to get the squeezing force I needed.

It's probably 10x easier if you can disassemble the whole arm, but it can be done with some maneuvering if you don't want to do that.

Taking input. I have a recast MNF on the a-line I bought 4+ years ago when I was still in school. It's my favorite doll and when the m-line came out I figured when I had enough money, I would get a legit mline and replace my recast. I saved up the money, waited for an OK event, and here we are. Problem is, I can't seem to commit between all the 'FL quality sucks' and the fact that I already, physically have the doll right here, I just want a different body. It doesn't help that every legit FL thing I own (2 event heads) have had glaring flaws, and their quality is not distinguishable from my recast? Should I even bother? $4XX is a lot of money.

Yeah just be gentle and make sure it's lined up as best you can before snapping it back together. Choo mentioned in a video that the elbow joints ARE the hardest to snap together, so expect a little resistance but it shouldn't be too difficult. Good luck!
>>5619824
Hahaha thank you! My friend calls her cheetohs too, and I've never been so amused by a nickname haha. Have another cheetoh, though in her default wig.
>>
what is a suggestion for someone getting their first DD? do you all have a sculpt in mind thats kind of tomboy-ish?
>>
>>5620014
I guess a standard bust and short hair wig would work.
>>
>>5620014
If you can afford it, i think dd Miku makes a cute tomboy. Crapolicedolls on tumblr has a good example in their collection.
>>
>>5619891
She looks great in her default wig. You must be bery happy to have her.

Still trying to figure out a non default outfit for Kiki (my Kizuna), can't have her go out in just her panties lol. At least she can wear DD clothes I do have.
>>
>>5619830
Obviously you've already made your mind up, so why ask us? You're an adult.
>>
>>5619830
We can't help you there, anon. It's a decision you have to make yourself, and honestly, if you have to "force" yourself to go legit than you already know that you really don't care.
Buying legit should be the norm, and if a company produces a product that isn't worth your money you simply don't buy from then.
That's how I deal with FL, I like their dolls but the quality is too bad, so I simply don't buy their dolls and buy from other companies.

Honestly don't get why so many recast buyers need to justify their purchases, either you live with your recast because you don't care, or you care and don't buy them. There is no weird inbetween state.
>>
>>5620443
But A~non, they've justified it to themselves, they want external validation now! We should hugbox them!!! They are a unique sno~w~flake! Delicate and oh-so-spewshal

Grow up. Have your recast, keep your mouth shut, or if you're that desperate for feelgood-backpats, go legit. Decide if it's worth $4XX to have the validation and not getting anti-recast drama.
>>
>>5620376
>>5620443

I've been going back and forth pretty hard on it. You're probably right. I don't really care whether it's legit or recast. I don't really participate in the hobby and I can barely tolerate the majority of people in it, so social stigma has little bearing and the quality isn't worth it to replace a perfectly fine doll. I didn't expect 4chan to talk me out of buying legit but there it is. I was hoping for the opposite.

>>
>>5621130
I've only ever heard of eyebrow stencils, and only ones made by the faceup artist themselves out of masking tape.
>>
>>5621085
The lips and the hunched shoulders look human, but the eyes and nose look like a doll. I would just guess it is a doll with a touch of shoop.
>>
>>5621165

I see. I wish someone would make them already, I'd be willing too pay for one.
>>
>>5621085
>>5621181
Pretty sure it's an Unoa; looks completely dolllike to me, desu, I can't see why it strikes you guys as unusual. The shoulders aren't hunched, she has her arms bent back (the hands are in her hair somewhere). Actually, if you two were interpreting the arms as hunched shoulders I can see why you mistook it for weirdly human-looking, since no doll I've ever seen could do that pose.
>>
>>5620568
It's related to scamming for the same reason that a lot of people are hesitant to buy from recast owners -- because they may try to sell a recast as legit (or in this case, if I'm reading this right, someone is worried meanae will direct unsuspecting newbies to recast sellers when the newbies don't know any better.)
>>
>>5621264
I had someone sit with me and figure out what is throwing me off. You're right in the arm thing, but also: The parting of the lips is throwing me a bit, since the photo is angled in a way that you can't see there's an end to the mouth. Also, the bad edges on the lipstick makes it look like it's just standard human lipstick that has been worn for a couple of hours- so it has that feathering quality to it.
The extreme close up in general also doesn't help.
>>
>>5621085
Normal doll picture, she just cropped out the joints.

>>5620544
I wouldn't say we (or I) talked you out of it, it's just clear that you already made your decision.
It's also not our job to change your mind.

I'm personally strictly anti-recast, and I still wish recasts would have never gotten so popular.
Last thing we needed was more risk, more whiny poor people, people who think they are somehow entitled to luxury dolls, more fugly looking dolls.
I firmly believe that people deserve to be paid for their work and there is nothing worse than getting your creation stolen and having to watch how someone else makes money with it.

But I can't change your mind.
You shouldn't buy a legit because someone talked you into it, because you fear drama or whatever, you should always buy them no matter what.
>>
>>5621271
Not sure how familiar you are with dolls, but that face-up is actually pretty shitty and not even close to the realism of real make-up.
I know that people who aren't really in the hobby tend to go all "ermagerd it looks so real", but this is def. just a shitty picture of a badly painted Unoa.
>>
>>5621322
No, no. I'm very famliar with bjds. I know it's a shit faceup. The problem that I had was that the lips are tilted at just the tight angle and have that shitty worn look to the edges that it looks like fucked up lipstick. When viewed on tumblr, I wasn't actually 100% sure if it was a human or not. If anything else, it was a mixture of shit makeup and JUST RIGHT angling/cropping that added up to a very alarming mixture.
>>
>>5621269
So she'd be selling recasts...of her own dolls?
>>
>>5621324
how familiar with bjds can you be if you can't instantly recognize a unoa? they've been around since the dawn of time, are extremely popular, and only have two sculpts, which look really similar to each other.
>>
>>5621544
>and only have two sculpts
How familiar are you with BJDs If you think Unoa consists of two sculpts?

There are several sizes alone, SD and reaaally small ones too, each with at least two different faces (if not more) and one line was even made together with Volks.
There are male ones too, you know?

>>5621540
Or not "own" dolls at all, i.e. badly copied ones like Lady Sayuki did.
To be honest, I mostly think she's a hypocrite, no clue if she's a good business owner.
>>
>>5621608
no shit nigga but when someone says UNOA they think lusis. the other sizes have sub names. Lusis and Sist are just "unoa". So when you say only "unoa" you mean lusis or sist.

The others are "unoa chibi" or "unoa zero" or "unoa elder"
>>
>>5621622
also, the sculpt by volks is not called unoa, it is unoss and is not officially part of the unoa line.
>>
>>5621622
