Barbie dolls, Disney dolls, any fashion dolls that aren't Monster High/Ever After High or BJD.

So the Disney Store Through the Looking Glass dolls were released online today, and sold out in hours.

I think it's more likely that Disney realized they put the dolls up while a BOGO 50% off sale was going on and yanked them once they realized the mistake. They'll be restocked on Monday and in stores that day too.

Not sure. This is the basic doll for Alice's daughter, face doesn't really seem similar. I wonder if it's supposed to be Sleeping Beauty's daughter? But the character and all the other dolls have had darker skin and brown hair, so....

Yeah, even the woman who work at my local Disney Store told me they hatted her which is kinda wired since they are supposed to be up beat and pretend to love all of their Disney merch. All four of them told me they hatted her because she was dressed like a man. The girl working the cashier pointed at the Animator Alice in the blue dress and said "this is what I think of when I think Alice. I don't know why they dressed her like a guy"

Literally who ?? The toy line. They should carry around a small locket or photo showing which Disney character they are supposed to be the children of.

With that said if this line ever gets to the point were they are desperate enough for new characters to make dolls of that they create a Decendant doll based on Olaf from Frozen I'll be laughing my ass off for a week.

Olaf having a kid I could believe. Just make a snowball from his groin and roll it downhill a bit.

Even still I wouldn't count a descendant of Olaf as desperate. Now, a Descendants daughter of Chernabog is what I'd call desparate since he's immortal, just slumbers 364 days of the year to only wake up during the Wulpergis and was never really 'defeated', plus even without his powers he's still massive and would have dethroned Maleficent long ago as ruler of the isle. But if they do make a kid of Chernabog, I will buy that, and I don't even collect dolls.
>>
>>5589133
I can't speak for every Disney Store or the Online version of the store but my local Disney store has a full wall full of the new Alice dolls. The only one that seems to be selling the most was the Red Queen. Her section was missing a few. Every other character was fully stocked with at least 5 to 6 dolls per character. They were also on sale.

The Look series is great. It's what Fashionista used to be several years ago. I want the hippie one for sure.

I went to my local Disney Store, they had all the Alice dolls in stock. Every single doll had a damaged box though. I decided to get the least damaged White Queen and Queen of Hearts at the store, since if I ordered them online I'd risk having the box totally crushed and then have to do the runaround with their customer service again. I'm debating getting Alice... what I don't like is how undefined her eyes are in person. Her outfit, like all the Film Collection dolls, is great--but her eyes are washed out. Also I don't know why people think it's the same face as Cinderella? Put them side by side and the only resemblance is "well they're both blonde and have the same jaws" but 99% of the Film Collection dolls have that odd jaw.

Older dolls, clothing quality is excellent and the faces are usually well painted, though definitely in their own style. Not sure about new ones. Some of the more unusually colored dolls have odd feeling plastic (I own an older Harley Quinn that is pure white plastic and it feels kind of cheap) but it isn't like its floppy or shiny or anything.
>>
>>5590574
Which is funny because the clothes are based off actual women's clothing from the period, just definitely not the mainstream stuff. Dress reformers were roughly the Victorian equivalent of bra burning feminists.

>>5590578
He's been in less R rated movies than Johnny Depp, I believe. Plus I can think of several actors known for extremely raunchy or deeply disturbing R rated content that are beloved family-movie actors as well. It doesn't fucking matter, because they're putting Sacha Baron Cohen in the movie not goddamn Borat.
>>
>>5590605
I think 'enormous fanbase' translates here to 'lots of merch being bought'. Which I understand. The merch usually focuses on only one element, like a Chesire Cat shaped purse. The individual imagery in the movie is actually great, but it looks terribly cluttered put together and doesn't work well. Half the characters were odd proportioned, half weren't, some of the animals were humanized some weren't, it was a mess. But as a one on one thing? It looks great.

No photos yet.

According to this one Disney doll blog which is almost always accurate on these things, the LE dolls will be

Regular LE Alice ($129.99) will be in that purple/orange outfit from the trailers
Regular LE Red Queen ($129.99) will be in an outfit from the new movie, sort of armor-like
Platinum LE Alice (???buttfuckingexpensive???) will be in the same outfit as the regular Film Collection doll
and a Mad hatter LE that is being called platinum--maybe Alice & Hatter will be a set.

I hope we get a film collection box set like we did with Cinderella, I'd like to see Alice in her dress from the first film and the White Queen in her lavender number.

They're a little off with what Orientalism tended to look like... this is the closest example I can find to that outfit, most of the rest are women wearing kimonos that have been tied tightly with thin sashes instead of obis so the women retain the corseted waspie look. Even these two have merged it into a more Western look and I wouldn't doubt that they'd have them tailored more and split in back to accommodate bustles. Even as a girl that has demonstrated that she doesn't want to follow fashion and society norms, she ought to still be wearing something less babys-first-deviantart-OC level.

I bought this China girl doll but only because I wanted her possible light skinned body for another doll.

I still find it laugh out loud funny that I had to buy the Chinese doll to get the doll with the lighter skin color. They tan the living crap out of barbie dolls these days. To the point where even the ethnic dolls have a more fair skin color than the actual "white" girl doll.
>>
>>5601333
She's Japanese but yes you are right. British Barbie would be the same colour as the Asian so calling Barbie the standard white skin tone is incorrect.
>>
>>5601333
>>5601352
Could be that they're still stuck on representing the ideal of beauty for each culture. Super pale skin is def preferred in Japan (as the entire shelf of skin bleachers at the local import grocery place here tells me anyway), where tanning is still a huge thing for white girls and is even considered the way to look healthy.

Speaking of bleached white beauties...

Has there ever been a doll based on the works of Patrick Nagel?

You'd think that there would be a collector's edition Barbie or Tonner doll based on the fashion art icon of the 80's, but no. I've looked all over Google and there isn't anything. Just a vinyl statuette released by Super Rad Toys back in 2008.

It seems weird that the Nagel Girl never got a doll, either back in the 80's or during the "I Love the Eighties" craze back in the early aughts.

Mattel's silkstone line has been fucking shit since 2012 ever since they started using ugly ass out of scale fabrics, using thick, crusty glitter in the make up and the choice of hairstyles sucked ass too since they were all out of scale, chunky braids or choppy hair.
I was genuinely excited for the poseable Silkstones since they were cutting back on the glitter and stupid ass hair, but the quality control and design choices are so utterly awful. Silkstones used to be considered top tier Mattel quality but now it's just an embarrassment.

Mattel, Mattel...

They got one of the most notable Barbie bloggers temporarily banned from Facebook for posting an image of Star Trek dolls--images which are already on online shops selling the dolls, mind you. Why is Mattel so ridiculous about posting images? I've seen people get blogs deleted for reposting stock photos that Mattel themselves posted online.

I've done this with a few doll. My walls aren't made of unpainted bricks tho and I actually tie a string behind the dolls back and I hang them by a hidden string.

I make it look nice by printing out a $10 background poster at walmart that goes with the film the dolls belong to. For example I'll print an image of the castle from the little mermaid/ Atlantica and hang the dolls in front of the background poster.

I lived in a house with concrete cement walls for a year once (it wasn't a basement just an old fashioned house in the country) and you can't just nail stuff to the wall with a hammer. The nail won't go threw. That means that this anon had to buy a drill (like I had to) and he had to drill holes to hang every single doll.

I do this mostly with Disney Store 2 for $20 dolls that cost me no more than $10 per doll. I mostly do it because I don't have a lot of space in my house to display stuff. I have so many great dolls in boxes that never see the light of day. I also have wooden type shelf cases where I display some dolls.

The only thing truly sad about that image is to see a fellow Disney Doll collector living in such a gloomy place. Kinda makes me wish I could help him or her out some how. At least he makes the best of what he has and tries to bring a little cheer into the room.

How is laughing and making offensive remarks at poor people going to make them not poor again ? Ganging up on or making fun of the poor is called cruelty. You get a good laugh at there expense and feel better about yourself which is great for you I guess but why pretend you're doing it to "help" them.

It's papusilemele, for sure.

I always check the site for news. It's proably the most up to date nowadays.

I haven't wrote anything about it, but I'm glad some people are making some "noise".

Mattel completely sucks with customer service. Meaning they have none, and completely shone upon many buyers, including most of the ones that live abroad. As a brand, they only want to relate do some American moms.

I used to tolerate that, since they used to have some nice dolls for affordable prices.

But nowadays they want to add that to dolls like the Oscar de La Renta statue with the most awkward flower bouquet ever for US$175,00.

I have no interest in purchasing high end, borderline luxury, prices to this sloppy, messy, pink, blond, brand.
>>
>>5611455
P.S. A new Star Trek series of dolls is a horrible idea, btw.

>poor

I counted 69 dolls. Many of those are Disney Store Dolls--including dolls which are wearing some of the fashion packs they sold, meaning they would have had to buy extra dolls to fit into the fashion packs. Let's assume they got the 2 for $10 deal on all the Disney Store dolls, and price the Mattel dolls at $10 (even though there are some older Mattel dolls--Meg, for instance--that would have cost more secondhand). That's still almost $700 on dolls alone, and that's a lower estimate since I know some of those dolls came out when there weren't 2 for $10 deals so the total may be closer to $900, to say nothing of all the stuff not visible in the picture.

It might cost $100 to get a cheap sturdy big shelf you could display most of those dolls on. If that. You can find cheap sturdy shelves at thrift stores almost anywhere.

Also, since it wasn't noted in the first picture, that's a little girl's collection. So that's $700-900(+??) spent on toys for a kid. Pretty sure that family could afford a shelf if they wanted, but that's how they chose to display them--it's not some "oh golly we're too poor to do anything else!!" measure but a deliberate choice.

I've been after this Madame Alexander 'Wicked' Glinda for years. I always seem to miss the auctions when they occasionally pop up, although it's usually the re-release (which uses the cutesy mold and has less details) that ends up on ebay.

I'm genuinely shocked that whoever owns the merchandising rights for Wicked hasn't made a bigger line of collector dolls outside of the Madame Alexander dolls, which haven't released a new Wicked piece in years. Back when I lived near her, yeah we did all the time. She even got into bjds with me. Right now we're trying to find time to get together and go through her massive doll collection and see whats actually in there. Like 85% of it has been shoved into a back room of the attic 25 years ago because of a long term doll-phobic house guest so its gotten to where shes not entirely sure whats even in there. Last time we made some progress on it, we found a few original Strawberry Shortcakes in their box along with a bunch of other very 80s nostalgic dolls and celebrity dolls too. She's sure theres some original Blythes up there too with their boxes but we've yet to find them.

What are your biggest doll regrets?

I regret not picking this up when it was first released... I had the money, and it wasn't even that much and they were bundling the Snow White re-release along with it.
>>
>>5634525
You can't really regret not buying what you didn't even know existed at the time.
These dolls started catching my eye at the Disney Store around the time the short brown hair Rapunzel doll came out. Only reason I saw her in person is because they had a hard time selling her and a bunch of them were in the front of the store for weeks.

Passed on Cinderella because I didn't feel the quality was worth $100.
A parent talked me out of buying Ariel (with my own money) when she came out by threatening me. That parent ended up paying four times what she sold for in 2013 over the summer because I wouldn't stop blaming them for causing me to miss out on her when she was in stores.

I could have bought four of them in 2013 for the price of the one I got this summer which still kinda bugs me since I kinda wish I could take her out of the box sometimes but won't do to her price point today. Other than that I guess I'm good. Wish I would have known about a few other surprise LE releases in time so that I could have gotten them at a fair price instead of having to pay greedy jew scalper prices.

Selling dolls when I was in need of money, and now those dolls go for too much for me to justify rebuying them. The Disney Store Enchanted dolls, the Charlotte Disney Store dolls (I had both and was planning on putting the first run dress on the new body which didn't have crossed eyes, jesus how did Disney put that into production) as well as--my greatest shame--the Broadway Ariel doll.

I have a doll with this type of body but the doll is life size. In fact I think the doll is taller than I am.
>>
>>5635464
I have a Phicen, but its the older plastic skeleton. The posability is very good but they do have a shelf life before they start to split. Plus (and this is just me being weird), it feels so skin-like that when I move the clicky-joints it feels like I'm snapping a little animal's bones. I think that issue might be resolved on the metal frame but it does bother me to the point of not playing with her very much.

It's called the "new ballet body." Apparently Copeland was involved in designing it (since she wanted it to reflect a muscular dancer body) so I guess it's a new body.

I have a feeling Mattel is going to be doing a lot more new/unique bodies in the future to go with the new varied Barbies. Now if only they'd do more ballet dolls with this body and without those same old boring frou frou pink tutus...

Horrible.

I have hardly ever seen any classic ballerine with such big breasts...

But the real dread is the clothing. There is nothing to it, besides a bunch of folded tulle, and they can't even bother to make the catsuit suit properly around the ankles and wrists.

I can only see the marketing here, with the "first black prima ballerina" famous name attatched to the brand's name, but not any joy in the final doll.
>>
>>5649329
>I have hardly ever seen any classic ballerine with such big breasts...

It's supposed to match Copeland's body, and she has larger breasts. Why are you complaining that the doll has breasts, anyway?

>There is nothing to it, besides a bunch of folded tulle, and they can't even bother to make the catsuit suit properly around the ankles and wrists.

What do you even mean here? There's nothing wrong with the body suit.

I think the doll is a refreshing change from the bland as fuck ballerina dolls Mattel has been released in the past few years.
>>
>>5649368
>It's supposed to match Copeland's body

Oh, so they are not going to be using it for other ballerinas? Good.

>There's nothing wrong with the body suit.

What?
It's so badly made. It is supposed to be a catsuit. Skin tigh, form-fitting. It's completely frumpy at the ends, it will look boxy, wich completely ruins the silhouette, for people who care about it.

>a refreshing change from the bland as fuck ballerina dolls
This is exactly what this doll is.
>>
>>5649690
>Oh, so they are not going to be using it for other ballerinas? Good.

>It's so badly made. It is supposed to be a catsuit. Skin tigh, form-fitting. It's completely frumpy at the ends, it will look boxy, wich completely ruins the silhouette, for people who care about it.

It's not supposed to be a skin tight cat suit. It's meant to be a body suit which corresponds to the theme of th "Firebird," not an exact replica. IIf it was, the doll could not be undressed, and since the doll is being massively marketed at young ballerinas, you can guarantee it will be getting undressed.

You say it's bland yet the last 4 ballerina dolls from Mattel have been same old, same old. This is something new and different.
>>
>>5649734
>Get over yourself, you big baby

Rude and random.

>not an exact replica
>IIf it was, the doll could not be undressed

What? LOL
You are literally making random things up to defend a poorly designed product.

>and since the doll is being massively marketed at young ballerinas

As I said before, I see the "massively market" part

>This is something new and different.

I just don't fall for this appellative crap to push a mediocre doll's sales.
>>
>>5649824
>You are literally making random things up to defend a poorly designed product.

No, I'm not. If it was a skin-tight catsuit, it would be very difficult for the target demographer (children) to undress the doll. There is nothing wrong with the design, since it's not supposed to be a skin tight catsuit.

>I just don't fall for this appellative crap to push a mediocre doll's sales.

Notice how you can't argue that it's not new and different.

Go back to buying your bland stationary ballet dolls that Mattel hasn't bothered changing up since 2012, I guess!
>>
>>5649824
>You are literally making random things up to defend a poorly designed product.

Also, Mattel description of the doll:

>Her fire red bodysuit, with sunburst orange tulle cutouts, stretches over her perfectly poised body, while layers of red and orange tulle tease a luxurious red tail. A vibrant tulle headpiece tops off her elaborate look, adding drama and flair. The doll features a brand-new ballerina body, with a face sculpted to Misty's likeness!

Not random, not making it up. Piss off. ;)

>If it was a skin-tight catsuit, it would be very difficult for the target demographer (children) to undress the doll.

>Go back to buying your bland stationary ballet dolls that Mattel hasn't bothered changing up since 2012, I guess!

You say this as if it was a bad thing. What do you have against woman or dolls with large breasts ? Do you view breast as something inappropriate and vulgar that should be downplayed in a doll ?

Makes me wonder if this type of thinking is the real reason that Disney has never created a Disney princess with a C cup breast size. It's just sad. All body types are beautiful.

would be correct since collectors would be more interested in a nicer and less boxy fit.

Where do you live? That's massively overpriced for retail. Pink label is the walmart tier of barbie collector. Retail for pink dolls is $15-30. this particular doll (like the misty copeland book) is being marketed towards young predominately black ballet dancers, hence it already being used in promotions at ballet schools before it's wide release.

>$80 for birthday wishes

Jesus holy fuck! Yeah, I can see how the prices can give a false impression for sure! Would it be cheaper to get them secondhand? Or I guess shipping prices would still fuck you guys over. Damn, I feel so bad for Australian doll collectors.

Regular non-Australian prices are much cheaper. For reference: Normal retail for Birthday Wishes is $30, and the retail price for both those ballet dolls is $25. Retail for the Misty Copeland doll is $30, and that extra $5 is probably just for paying for her likeness/name.

Barbie Pink Label is the 'lowest' label for its collector dolls. It's the dolls that have less or no hand details, don't have any limited or specified edition, and are sold in children's section of places like Target, Walmart, Kmart, Toys R Us, some supermarket chains, etc. Sometimes they're even cheaper or the same price as the playline dolls, or at least the deluxe fashion ones that aren't made as often anymore. I payed $29.99 for that doll at Walmart about a year ago. I bought two of them. One for display and I got the other so I could rip off it's head and put it on a different dolls body. I know Walmart is cheaper than some other places but I don't think it was all that much more at Toys R Us. Never saw it as high as $50.

Damn, yeah we normally get screwed with this sort of thing. I think Barbie is the worst for it compared to Monster High or EAH or the Disney Hasbro lines. Nice to get the perspective though since I did think they were more a collector thing. Nobody wants to buy a young child an $80 doll to have it destroyed, but if they're normally $30 that makes a lot more sense. I wish the prices matched because I've wanted to get a friend of mine one of the birthday wishes as a gag gift but couldn't justify it.

I'm a guy so if I had to pick one I'd go with the LE because it's makeup makes the doll look more adult / seductive. Her waist is also visibly tinier than the playline Rapunzel. The tiny waist helps to accents the dolls breast which makes them look slightly larger aka (The doll looks curvier). The corset strings stand out more visually and are pulled tighter together. The neckline is more open/ low cut. All these things come together to make the doll look sexier .
I could care less about the non-movie accurate puffy selves and high collar all tho I will admit they are a nice yet unnecessary touch.

The LE dress itself has a more generous amount of material going around the lower half of her tiny waist which give the the doll a nice flowy dress effect. Way higher quality, and softer fabric was used on the LE dress while the Playline dress looks like they used just enough cheap, hard, glittered, fabric to cover her ass. No more. No less.

While I'm a fan of long flowing hair I have to say that the playlines braid is very well done. The fact that it comes with light up flowers and a light up lantern is a plus. She also sings the whole song as the braid glows. The dolls singing voice is also Mandy Moores and not a cheap sound alike.

I payed $30 (on sale ) the week before Christmas for the Playline version and I am Very Very happy with her. As nice as the LE doll is I could never justify paying anything close to $1000 dollars for her. This is coming from a person who payed $500 for an LE Ariel a few months back. Ariel is my favorite princess tho.

Well they are going to have to do better than $9. At least in actual stores that is. They have them priced at 2 for $20 all year long. Last year when my local Disney Store was trying to make room for the new 2015 dolls they placed the old ones at the back of the store and priced them at around $7 each.
