All small guys this time around. The Chogokin VF-1J is tinier than I expected, but it has some serious heft!

>>5573933
It depends on the series that the toys are coming from (as RD are generally non-scale, with some exceptions), so it's probably most helpful to know that RDs are usually in the 5" to 5.5" tall range. That can make them a bit smaller or a tiny bit larger than 1/144, again depending on the series the RD is from.

So the best way to loosen tight joints is with model car shock oil? Something I can find at most any hobby shop that sells model kits? The upper knee joints in my God Gundam are super tight, makes posing a pain and I just ordered the other G suits so I wanna be prepared if they have problems too.

I've never used it myself, but other folks in RD thread have with good results, and everything I've read has pointed to shock oil as a reliable joint loosener.

I believe shock oil is used more for RC cars rather than model car kits, so that's where you should be looking in your hobby store.

>>5576043
If the trooper shares a fair amount of parts with the Gundam Kimaris, I imagine it'd be a good candidate for at least an exclusive release.

>>I believe shock oil is used more for RC cars rather than model car kits, so that's where you should be looking in your hobby store.

Right, I just recall hearing that there's the right version to use and a wrong version that corrodes plastic. Probably the difference between RC oil and other kinds.
>>
>>5576083
>Do all the Chogokins use a single screw on the back to hold things together?

Yup. Single screw each. Strategically placed where applicable.
>>
So I just got into Eureka 7 and was looking at the RD NirvashZERO. By any chance, does anyone know what I should expect to pay for him on Mandarake? I've seen him in the 55-40k JPY range on other stores
>>
>>5576043
>I am pretty sure Barbatos and Kimaris will be in the bargain bin.

You think so? That's disappointing, because I was really hoping to see some other suits from this series. Both Gusions, the Grimgerde, and the Kimaris Trooper would all be great. Regardless, I'll probably pick up a Barbatos not long after its' release, because I enjoyed the series a lot and I loved seeing it wield that mace around.

Also, the Kimaris Trooper is a more interesting design than the vanilla Kimaris, if only for the hover-centaur thing it's got goin' on. I wouldn't mind seeing it in RD form, personally.

Let's talk about that RD figure you have that you REALLY WANTED and liked from the initial release of images but once you got it you could not help but feel let down by it. Despite all the love you have for the design, its RD just does not do it for you.

Mine is the second version of the V Gundam. I always liked the Victory design--even more than the V2. I regretted missing out on the first release but when the second version was announced I could not wait to preorder it. The fact that it came with accessories that were previously obtainable only as exclusives was the cherry on top of this magnificent robot milkshake. But, alas, once I got it I just could not like it. It felt cheap compared to other RD releases and while the articulation was there it just did not translate into a fun toy experience. It went to storage fast and has stayed there ever since. The fact that the figure goes for a heavily discounted price simply confirms my impression of the Victory RD [2nd ver.].

What's yours?

RD Master Gundam.

I love the God Gundam and how dynamic its sculpt is, so I was disappointed when I got Master Gundam and realized he was nothing like that. to the point where I think the two were sculpted by different people

RD Master Gundam, instead of being a stylized representation of the design, opted to accurately represent the design. If I wanted that i'd just buy a model kit...

Not to mention he clashes alot with God Gundam aesthetically.

Good toy, just looks wrong

>>
>>5577985
Shenlong.

I hate to say it too because of how overpriced it was as an exclusive, it makes the sting that much worse. I mean in many ways it's a solid figure, so I can't say it's a bottom-feeder for the RD line, but compared to the rest of the excellent Wing line it comes in near last. It's kind of tragic that you get the O5 Wing units in-hand and Shenlong is outclassed by Altron in almost every conceivable way as a figure. It's just not right.

Mercurius and Vayeate are technically worse, but I didn't hold high expectations for those figures.

God Gundam. I mean he's a fine figure I guess; but he's just simply underwhelming compared to the other figures/kits available of the god gundam and how advanced they generally are for the line they're in. Even comparing him to that gummy old MSIA figure is a little underwhelming as it had a ton of features the RD doesn't.
>>
>>5577866
I'm really interested in getting the ver ANIME RX-78, but I've never purchased anything from the robot spirits line before. Though I did see a Dragonar at a local convention recently.
Is the ver ANIME actually painted, or is that just marketing bull?
>>

Robot Damashii's have minimal paint apps. Just for what's necessary.

Since when did they ever market them as fully painted?
>>
>>5578509
I've never taken interest in the line prior hence the curiosity.

>>
>>5578019
I see i've met my alternate universe double.

I found God Gundam to be incredibly disappointing in the amount of parts swapping that had to be done. Maybe the MSIA spoiled me, but the fact that almost none of the gimmicks were built into the figure itself was lame as fuck. It got to the point where I bought a second God Gundam and glued all of the hyper-mode pieces to it just because. Double X suffers from this as well, and don't me started on how disappointed I was with that figure.

Meanwhile Virsago and Master are two of the most solid, playable figures Bandai has ever released as far as i'm concerned.
>>
>>5578528

Ooh, I see~

>I found God Gundam to be incredibly disappointing in the amount of parts swapping that had to be done

There is alot of partsforming, but I feel its justified in some ways. the chest plate is stylized to look more open than what would be possible if the mechanism was built in. also i think the gauntlets had to be partsformed because of the mid-forearm swivel he has and having the transformation built in might have over complicated things?

Master's still a great toy though, but his aesthetic does bother me. God and Master are supposed to be mostly equal in strength, but God's stylization makes him look stronger and cooler than Master..

>I bought a second God Gundam and glued all of the hyper-mode pieces to it just because
that's a neat idea, it would be cool if you did that with Hyper mode God Gundam~

I don't collect RD primarily (I collect MSIA primarily), but I would get this. Breddy kewl desu fampai.
>>
>>5578890
I am assuming you are not being facetious. From what I gather, the above-referred anon is talking about the engineering and know-how of the RD. It is not the first time an RD release falls short in one or many aspects to previous incarnations.

Take for example the RD and the EMSIA Sazabi. From what I have gathered from people that have both the EMSIA is arguably superior to the RD: it has better paint apps, more detail, and more accessories (displayable funnels!). Sure, the RD has the better articulation but not by much.

Now, from what anons have mentioned on this thread the RD God is a partsformer whereas the MSIA incarnation incorporated engineering that allowed it to transform without part-swapping. This is arguably a step back in terms of action figure engineering. Perhaps a reasonable compromise the development team had to settle for but a step back in action figure ingenuity nonetheless.
>>
>>5579044
The regular MSIA version of the Sazabi has funnels too. So do the Jagd Dogas.

When I was a kid and got the green Jagd Doga in a store here in the US I hadn't seen Char's Counterattack so I had no clue what the funnels were.
>>
>>5579025
Too late already opened the RX

Does anyone else have trouble getting this fucker to hold things? His hands for the beam saber are impossibly tight to the point it feels like I'm gonna snap the saber in half, and attaching his hand for the bazooka was so tight I popped the entire arm off at the shoulder and had to put it back together.

Hell, just looking at the hand sockets it looks like they're too tight. Is this a common thing?
>>
>>5579085
Frankly, it sounds like you're ham-handing things up a bit. Hold things as close to the connection point as possible and use even pressure to get things into place. If you're really having trouble you can use hot water to heat up the hands and make them more pliable. Also, put the saber hilts in the hands first and then attach the blade, it's easier to handle this way and you won't risk snapping anything.
>>
>>5579085

While I won't pretend to not be a ham-hander, the RX's hands gave me way more difficulty than any pieces on Char's Zaku, to the point that I got pretty sick of dealing with him.

Got a lot more fun out of the Zaku (that fucking head spike though, goddamn was that a poor design choice) but I haven't messed with his accessories too much for fear my gorilla fingers will break something.

>>
>>5578960
I think that's what everyone, including Bandai, thought, so they didn't make as many. I could walk into a regular retail store and buy a Red Frame right now, which is weird for a Metal Build, but the Flight Units are all long gone. When even the prices on Yahoo Japan Auctions are all insane you know that shit's gotten real.
>>
>>5578960
I found that funny. I originally had 3 orders of the flight pack and two Red Frames.

Now I just got 2+2.

I guess, the option pack is only useful for people who own the Red Frame and there will always be people who only buy the Red Frame therefore Bandai didn't want a 1:1 production ratio.
>>
>>5579922
I htink the Red Frame will be as easy to find as the Gold Frame and the Exia when they first came out. But after a month and in the long run, I am pretty sure they will go up.

Only Destiny and Strike Freedom were super crazy.

Byarlant Custom.

The top-heavy lankiness of the design made the RD a bit of a pain in the butt to mess around with because it balanced so precariously. Like the feet had good surface area, and he would stand fine, but he'd wobble easily and you had to position things just right to balance him on his feet.

Placing him on a stand was hampered by his extreme weight, such that it was safest to not use any arm extension parts with the stand. Yet without an arm extension, the Byarlant was barely lifted off the ground due to how long its legs were, and even then it was like the ratchets of the Act 5s were barely able to hold the guy up.

It looked great, nice painted finish, lots of articulation (range of motion in the arms could have been better though) and excellent detail, but it just wasn't a fun figure to me.

Dang, Shenlong is the one suit I'm missing from my Wing TV team and I'm always tempted to pick him up despite not being the biggest fan of the suit or its pilot.

Is it just the comparatives simplicity of the design compared to Altron that makes it disappointing? Or are there things that are straight up wrong with Shenlong?

>>5578151
Yeah, they really really needed to make his waist joint a ratchet or something. It's such a superb figure otherwise.

>>5578526
What the heck, haha, that's nuts! Well, it'll eventually be released here in the States (MSRP is $55.99, I believe), so maybe it'll be worthwhile to wait it out and pick one up from the US?

>>
>>5580069
I just started watching Unicorn.

I really wish they hadn't canceled the MSIA line before they started making figures from it.

I'd love some more Jegan variants, and some of the color variants of the other Zeon suits during the battle scene on Earth.

I wouldn't call them wobbly but they're not particularly tight either, haha. The ol' Stark Jegan uses simple ball joints in the hips and its legs are pretty heavy. My Stark's hip joints have definitely gotten looser over time, so it wouldn't surprise me if you had some looseness with a brand new one.

On the upside, because the hips are simple ball joints, it should be very easy to tighten them up if you want to. Just pop the legs off and use something to thicken up the ball before popping the legs back on. Could be tape, tissue paper, or Future if you want to be more professional about it, haha.

>>5580082
Ooh, enjoy the watch, I sure did. And yeah, I really really want more figures from Unicorn (though the RD Kshatriya was a prayer answered!). Would love all the stuff you named, as well as some more Sleeves units like that Sleeves Dreissen.

SDX Neo Black Dragon.

The removable armour is nice and all, but they fall off quite a bit when you try to pose.

Still, pretty nice figure though, and sort of kinda scales well with BB Senshi kits, if not a bit large. But I guess being a sort of final boss, it kinda makes sense.

>Maybe we'll discover who the hell designs these amazing things!

Got to admit this would be pretty neat to read up on, especially if there's a bit of talk on the why; for some properties around the line's beginnings. Like the by itself GM Sniper II, or the massive love for the Aura Battler Dunbine line(that I prey to something unmentionable the Patlabor line gets!)

Though have they done a similar book earlier before?

>>5577985
Has to be the Ka Signature Barzam for me. Just was very little of the Barzam(one articulated statue really...) up to that point, so wouldn't have been able to stop myself even if the flaws had been even more obvious.

Still the things that stick out even now with it gone. The loss of the 'goofy' proportions from the line-art/show that made me love it so originally. Lacking articulation in the ankles/feet and the neck/head, that limited it to mostly standing poses. Just could not have much fun with it.

That said, as the Barzam is the Leo of the UC for me, probably gonna pick-up a replacement when my my middleman gets my Refined Barzams.

>Yeah, they really really needed to make his waist joint a ratchet or something. It's such a superb figure otherwise.

I tightened the waist joint on mine by stuffing a small bit of busted bubble-wrap plastic in before popping the joint back together.

Also used runny-liquid-style super glue to fix the backpack and the front-back hip swivels in neutral positions. Legs can still swing out to the sides and twist at the hips. Only pose it can't do anymore that I'd like it to is kneeling, like with the cockpit open. But it's rock-solid like the Leprechaun now.

I also painted some extra gloss black to match the lineart/anime a little better. Like the grooves on the backpack and front of the lower legs.

I'll post pics when I take shots of my Absolute Chogokins in a few days.

I picked up a heavy paint Unicorn since not many people seem to have it (and it was substantially cheaper than the shield funnel version), so I thought I'd give everyone my thoughts:

The plastic is an off-white/greyish colour with a very subtle glitter effect designed to simulate "metal" rather than particles (the closest comparison I can find is the ELS QanT). Photos don't really do it justice but it's definitely NOT a "candy coat" like some people feared.

The extra paint detail on the psycho frame is especially beautiful from certain angles giving off a deep 3D effect. However this only seems to be applied to several places throughout the body: most notably the chest, shoulders and legs.

Overall an excellent figure if you can find it for the right price, and if you don't care for the Full Armor configuration. Accessories are the same as the regular Unicorn, except the beam sabers which now have a "pearl" colour at the base rather than white.

Amazon.co.jp for Red Frame at original price. Need Japan proxy buying service.

Exia generally got tons more play value(2 forms) and better reviews than the Astray Red Frame.

Red Frame is a bare bones design with no giant backpack or form changing parts and retails at 18000 yen. Exia back in 2013 retailed for 15000 yen with extra parts.

Force Impulse already includes the Excalibur. Maybe Blast and Sword will be web exclusives.

I think most people will just get either Destiny Impulse or Force Impulse but not both. Don't think there are too many fans of that mould.

So only 3 prototypes remain unannounced for the anime line.

Force Impulse is September but not sure if they will give anime a break that month. GM is a no brainer but I would like some MSV exclusives. They could drag out the line for at least another year or two.
>>
>>5585213
Garma Zaku II FS, as well as Matsunaga and Johnny Ridden are also no brainers if they decide to go MSV.
>>
>>5585190
Just that Sirbine isn't the end. Gedo, Bozune, Wryneck, and Bastole were apparently in consideration around the time of Zwarth.
>>
>>5585224
Thanks for that. So this must have been from the Robot Book. Any other future plans? How about mobile suits and L Gaim? Is Dragonar done? Vifam is probably still going.
>>
>>5585213
Well, GM is likely the next ANIME release as its one of the only three from TN unaccounted for, and I doubt that the Big Zam and Zaku variant won't be web exclusives if they get released.

But yeah, I don't expect the other Impulses to be regular releases. While I plan to get both Destiny and Force, as well as the other two should they come out, I know I'm in the minority on this.
>>
>>5585213
Zaku II Desert Type, could do everything a Zaku IIJ could. Said to be the true predecssor of the Gouf. We may also get the MS-06G High Mobility Ground Type Zaku from MSV-R along with a Dodai Ys.
>>

Not really. There doesn't seem like much, and people mainly posted about their interests. The interviews were with people running ANIME, SEED, and older anime. Patlabor seems to have a lot of thinking going on.

Got the Astray Red Frame MB.

Disappointed in it. Doesn't really offer anything new that the MG doesn't. Might sell it and the flight pack. The PG is leagues more impressive, too.
>>
>>5584952
15000 in 2013 cost more than 18000 in 2016
>>
>>5584543
You can go for the red frame first since you missed the bus on the mb Exia reissue , I mean bullet train since it sold out the fastest amoung all the normal release metal builds. You can wait til August and try to buy the reissue when it releases . Price should be cheaper than now , but not by much since it seem to have a very small batch.
Someone here don't like their mb red frame so maybe you can just get it from him.
>>
>>5585082

It doesn't even come out till August. Just bookmark the HLJ link and check it whenever you go online. Future release stuff goes back and forth between Order Stopped and Available all the time. You haven't missed anything yet.
>>
>>5585676
G-Self doesn't move much, but its glossy plastic and curves are molded very well.
>>
>>5585802
Isn't the PG really bad since it uses the Strike frame and the armor pieces don't coordinate well with articulation?
>>
>>5586072

Dunno about that (latter part, it does use some parts of the strike frame), but I get the same quality of articulation from the MG as the PG. Which is fantastic for me.

This is a long shot, but would anyone have a Kshatriya they would be wanting to get rid of? I figured I would ask here before going to Mandarake.
>>
>>5586115

I have no issues with it, it's just that it's nothing special. It's everything we got in the MG. I know it's comparing something else entirely, but oh well.

>>5586125

Not sure. Probably $10 off the hlj discount price. Heard the flightpack was sought after so I haven't the slightest clue for that.
>>
>>5586142

Absolutely, if you want the incredible articulation of the RD line. If not, stick with your GFFs. They'll be more detailed out of the box. (Decals have to be done by you when it comes to the KA line.)
>>
>>5586240
The flight packs is on fire right now , you see them going over $130
>>
I didn't expect Sirbine to sell out. That's a bummer.
>>
>>5585792
They weren't the greatest but the cheapness of them allowed them to make some figures that are simply too expensive/unpopular to justify getting kits or RD's. Stuff like the Xamel and most of the stuff from G-gundam are probably never going to get anything better.
>>
>>5586240
Both the MG and Metal Build were supervised by Bee-craft, so that's why it offered nothing but accuracy to the lineart.
>>

>>
>>5586618
Heard that the MB Gold Frame Amatsu wasn't that great either and the PC glossy plastic is prone to finger printing. However, it did not have an MG counterpart to compare with.

A lot of mobile suit RDs don't sell simply because most people have the RG or MG counterparts already, which will always be the benchmark. This is especially the case for the Zeta Gundam and SEED ones. The Gundam Wing TV ones didn't get modern models.

The ANIME line is a different story as it is trying to differentiate from existing model styles. However, their production numbers are high.

>Heard that the MB Gold Frame Amatsu wasn't that great either.

Crap invented by those who can not afford it.

The line are like master grades made by great modelers. If you are good with kits (and like build them) , you probably do not need them, but line itself is excellent.

So I got this glorious bastard at a local anime convention this weekend. I wanted to get one to go with my Dunbine and Todd's Drumlo anyway, and seeing as I paid probably about the same price at the convention as I would online these days anyway, I figured it was worth it.

Anyway, he's a fun figure! I didn't get amazing impressions about him from photo reviews before I got him, but now that I've got him in hand, he's just a very solid figure. It has some minor issues, like being top-heavy and a few loose joints, but I fixed those with a bit of tissue paper in the ball-sockets, as usual. My biggest gripe is probably the placement of the stage-connector socket. It's just seems to be at the wrong angle to make good use of it, and he tends to slip off the stage peg at times. Otherwise, I'm glad I got him to display with my other Dunbine RD's.

Also next weekend I'll finally get my A.N.I.M.E. RX-78-2 as a birthday gift! I'm so stoked to get one after all the pics you guys have shared. I thought about picking up a Savage (Sand) soon too, but I might put that off for a bit longer now that I'll have 2 new figures to enjoy.
>>
