Unorthodox toy thread? Unorthodox toy thread.

When I was a kid, I used pic related to simulate the Martian spaceships from The War of the Worlds and pretend to ray-gun my figurines and Army guys.

What random objects did you appropriate for your play setups?

Autistic storytime.

I had a cheap shitty mini telescope on a tripod (kind of like pic related, but only about a foot high and tall when unfolded). It wasn't very good at telescoping, though, so I mostly treated it like a little boss mech for my miniature figurines to fight against.

The first 'phase' was the telescope itself, which could unscrew from the tripod. I would pretend it was a huge laser cannon or something, and when my figurines 'attacked' it enough, the telescope would spin around and eventually unscrew and fall off. The second phase was the wingnut underneath that, which fired construction paper electrical arcs. Once it took enough damage, it'd also spin and eventually fall off. The final phase was the ball and socket screw that the wingnut attached to; a long flat screw underneath the center of the tripod held that in place, and tightening or loosening it would secure or loosen the angle of the top screw (and, thus, the telescope). Anyway, the final phase was that ball and socket screw flopping around spewing a hail of bullets while the tripod tried to frantically stomp on the heroes, who shot the lower screw to loosen it until it fell out and the tripod toppled over and died.

I know it sounds stupid in hindsight, but the posability of that junky little telescope made it such an expressive and fun contraption to play with. I kind of wish I hadn't misplaced it now.

Motherfuckers

Who here played with eraser?

I got in trouble once in elementary for bringing Pokemon toys. Huge fiasco.
Toys in general weren't allowed.
So I used erasers.
I would draw faces on them and hair and their body and the sleeve would be clothes

I had about 5 erasers in each pencil case
Pencil case was the spaceship/house
And each classroom was a new world
Pens were swords/rakes
And in the back of textbooks I would draw farms
It was the ultimate crafting game
I self inserted and practiced polygamy and had kids
Back when I was 10-11 I was a fan of big tits so I drew them nice and big
Which prompted me to make sure my teachers didn't find them out
Teachers were like colossi

Then some other kids started picking up on the trend and I had about 5 dudes join me in study hall and we played
>>
>>5515789
Holy shit I did this too with my pokemon figures!!!
>>
In elementary school I would get really bored in the cafeteria after I was done eating. I played with the plastic spork and straw I got every day. I would bend the straw so he had a small "head" and I would bend the middle tongs of the spork so he had "hair". Spork and Straw had a lot of adventures. I would punch little holes in my Styrofoam lunch tray with Spork and sometimes Straw would get trapped in them like pitfalls. They would interview random lunch items like my milk carton for a fake TV show. They would have rivalries and romances. I always wondered later if my teachers took notice of me furiously talking to myself as bits of plastic for half of every lunch period. I would sometimes do the same in my desk cubby during class using my mini stapler and one of those triangle shaped erasers that sticks onto the end of your pencil.
>>
>>5515789
I did this too! And when my family got an above ground pool I would drape a wet towel over my head above water, listen to the echo, and pretend I was in a submarine.

Had eraser wars with other students. Used any kind of toy weapon we could find at home and bring them in. Also used little mint boxes as recon shuttles with those dollar store pencil top erasers, and brought in dental floss things as space fighters. I always won because my mom was a secretary and always had a lot of erasers, and I had a lot of figurine toy guns. Also, what kind of a stupid 10 year old takes on a 25 year old?

I also used to jam one of these (with an ocean floor design) between the top bunk and bottom bunk on my bed, then threw a blanket over any other holes. Sometimes it was a store to give my brother ammo/new guns, sometimes it was a hideout.

Used to wear my dance leotard with a sock for a tail and drink milk from a saucer pretending to be a cat, didn't have much in the way of toys but I'm a huge autist so I just read a lot. Funny because my autism wasn't picked up until my teens because it manifested itself in a way incomparable to my textbook autist of a big sister, I studied folklore, fairy tales and myths, correct etiquette for different occasions (because princesses) the origin of ballet and its conventions and took other girly things to very extreme levels, people overlooked it because my reading a midsummer nights dream at 8 obsessively was just 'oh fairies'
(or at least it was to my autistic family)
Filled the woods and fields behind my house with tiny 'fairy houses' I made from leaves and sticks etc and left traditional Celtic offerings to Brownies and other little people.
I didn't grow out of most of it.
The thing that stuck with me most is building dolls houses and miniatures, I filled any drawer or shelf unoccupied with tiny rooms I made.

Most of everyone here sounds like their childhood imaginings were more social but I'd just sit and imagine for hours so I usually didn't project much onto objects. We couldn't afford toys.
Ok blog over.

I just used to actually play with plungers. I was big into Super Mario when I was a kid, and on the old cartoon they were always referencing the fact that he was a plumber, and he was always using "plumber's helpers" as weapons or tools.

I'm pretty sure I had an aunt who painted one up for me that had my name on the handle, and I know I still have the damn thing. Have to search for it when I get home.
