This chinese company looks surprisingly promising.

$159 for a sd body is pretty darn good. Watch them turn out to be a recast or design stealing company tho.
>>

I usually do about 2 times the size of the eyeball. It's enough to keep everything secure, but not so much that the putty starts popping out of the sockets.
>>
bjd collecstasy is kill
>>
>>5302552
idk, something's off to me about them. Kinda like once they reach your hands they'll be horribly unphotogenic in most angles. If you want a body that's not going to hang out naked all the time, do it!

>>5302538
Honestly, I use clean kneadable eraser as eye putty, but light-colored poster tack works well too. Most companies sell sculpey-like stuff, but it never holds things in there firmly enough for me.
Also, DO NOT USE the sculpey-like stuff for acrylic eyes. They will crack. I had this happen and was bewildered when I took them out and they were cracked, since they were fine when they went into the doll and she had never taken any rough tumbles.

Acrylic eyes:
>plastic
>often really flat and lack dimension
>cheap
>Many of the anime-styled eyes are acrylic

Silicone/Soft Glass
>Rubbery/squishy
>flat design underneath (especially in the case of Soom the last couple of years; I have eyes from them I had gotten before the first FCE that actually had a dimensional iris underneath)
>stains easily
>attracts dust like a magnet

Glass eyes
>glass (duh)
>Have more lifelike threading
>More durable
>Not prone to staining
>will cut a bitch if the backs have stems

Urethanes
>Durable
>Prone to staining
>Larger variety and customization prospects
>If you make them to order, they usually take a very long time
>High-end urethanes are expensive as hell
>Very brilliant

>>
>>5302538
best stuff to use in my experience for sticking the eyes in the head, no matter the kind of eye, is silicone ear plugs. i use Mack's Silicone putty ear plugs. You can easily break them in half and a pack lasts forever. I use it in all my dolls, and have for years with no damage and no staining because there's no dye.
>>
>>5302944
>>5302944
Seconded, the issue is that you can't use them with glastics (which I have a soft spot for) as it'll chemically degrade them or something. But I use it for all my glass eyes.

The Nobilitydoll muscle female body? It's gorgeous, but every single person I've seen who actually owned one had to put in a shitton of mods to make it pose at all in even the most basic ways, and was frustrated with it. It sounds like it was even worse at posing than Mirodolls.

I know IOS is coming out with a muscular female body in the future, so there's hope for something like that but better-engineered to be available.
>>
>>5304882
On one hand, dream fucking shattered. On the other, thank you for that ray of hope that is IOS. Fingers crossed that one is better.

Here's a thread detailing the posability issues and documenting the mods one person did to get it to stand, sit, etc:
https://denofangels.com/threads/nobility-muscular-girl-mods-and-posablility-update-04-17.497510/#post-8707518

Here's the group order leader's review of the quality received for the price and how disappointed she was, even for a $250 body. I think she did mods on hers as well since this person does a lot of mods but I didn't see a thread by her in my half-minute of looking:
https://denofangels.com/threads/nobility-doll-custom-order-feedback-girl-muscle-body-humbugs-design.510748/#post-8939161

If you don't have a DoA i can screenshot it for you, but here's one of the pics from the first thread to give an idea how fucked this thing was -- it would spontaneously do this when standing. If I could buy an already modded one that posed well than I would, but as is, what a mess.
>>
>>5304910
Many thanks anon. At first glance, it already looks like a trainwreck.

But now I'm a bit confused. Was it someone else's design they just sculpted and cast? Do they have permission to use the design again if so? I'm going to read through, so these questions are a bit preemptive but I'm just thinking out loud for now.
>>
>>5304917
it was a group order using a DoA member's design. Not sure about the other specifics though.

Anon speaks truth, pic related.

Also a collection of several $300-500 BJDs isn't actually any more eccentric budget-wise than about a hundred figmas or Transformers, which plenty of people on this board wouldnt bat an eye at.
>>
>>5305109
Oh anon, I really need you to sit down now because this might be kinda shocking for you: most people in this thread (and hobby) are actually women.

If you want to troll the weird male dollfuckers go to /jp/.
Not to mention that your question is a bit silly on a toy board where some people spend hundreds on Transformers, Figmas and whatnot.
>>
Okay I need to stain clean and I never see oxy-10 at Target, so if I go to Walmart tomorrow, what product can I be using to clean out some black markings left on my doll's head?
>>
>>5305126
If it's vinyl then unfortunately you'll have to keep looking for something with that same active ingredient.
If it's resin just get a Mr. Clean magic eraser and it should take out most stains. (Magic eraser has worked on a few stains on my vinyls too, ftr; surface ones, especially on sealed parts.)
>>
>>5305125
I thought I was talking to weird male dollfuckers, as for spending that much on other toys I don't really understand that either.

I thiiink anything with benzoyl peroxide (so quite a few acne products) will work, but check this thread for specifics:
http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1887
But basically any acne product with that ingredient will probably do SOMETHING to reduce the stains.
>>

>>
>>5305174
>>5305147
Just trying to understand how you could spend that much on a doll, what do you do with them?
>>
>>5305194
How could anyone spend so much on anything that is not needed to survive?
It's a luxury hobby, some people buy drugs and drink or regulary camp in front of an Apple store for the newest iPhone or were willing to cut a bitch when the first PS4s were in the stores.
We buy dolls, not much of a difference.

Regarding your question: it depends on the collector.
I personally like to paint them and to take pictures, I also earn money with accepting commissions so a good chunk of my hobby was financed by other people who collect too.
Others just like pretty things, some truly have some emotional hole to fill, others just like the thrill of hunting limited dolls.
Some are authors and just want their characters in some visible form, like people who paint their characters.
>>
>>5305136
Most of us are pretty normal ladies, aged from late teens to middle age. A majority of us have significant others or spouses, good jobs and all around normal lives. On 4chan you're most likely to get the younger demographic who are down to earth and are bluntly honest. This is undoubtedly the best place to hang out and talk dolls.

Every niche hobby attracts freaks and you do get teenagers who are catty drama queens and have terrible taste but generally everyone's pretty normal. Even the men in this hobby are usually pretty cool guys. I personally know two dudes with dolls and one's a neckbeard and the other is a totally normal, hetero guy with a gf.
>>
>>5305228
>Middle aged women on 4chan

Interesting though
>>
>>5305194
you do know that designer shoes and purses are hundreds and hundreds of dollars, right? and its just a purse/shoe/pair of jeans made in a sweat shop in china, right?

a doll at least you can customize, some consider them works of art depending on who painted the face. they are poseable, fun to photograph, make clothes for, make wigs for, imo they're a better item to spend money on than an oversized $800 handbag.
>>
>>5305341

Believe it or not, the dollfags on 4chan are the "normies" of the doll community. Fat deluded fanfiction writers who make ~*OC*~ for their dolls are found on tumblr and other forums, but most of us here are young adults with decent jobs that allow us to support the hobby.

That isn't to say you won't find people in here who make dolls of their OCs - they just know how to behave and act like normal members of society.

>as for spending that much on other toys I don't really understand that either.

Are you just exploring /toy/ for funsies? Sometimes I go to /cgl/ for lulz and spend 3 hours there entertaining myself. If you're doing the same, welcome and enjoy the show! I hope you find the doll thread amusing.

Back when I was majorly into vintage toys, some people on the forums started testing out acne cream under a UV lamp as a faster version of the old sunlight and cream trick. They usually used the true-sunlight craft lamps like the Ott ones. I've tested it once using a higher power nail gel lamp and it worked extremely well, as in some visible lifting of stains in the space of an hour. Obviously this is only for vinyl, and definitely don't put resin under UV lamps, but it does speed it along and is great if you live somewhere thats often cloudy this time of year.
>>
Why not just use RemoveZit? It's specifically for removing stains on vinyl dolls.

Spiders have eight legs and two pedipalps. The human arms on a human/spider hybrid doll SHOULD replace the pedipalps, but DC Elizabeth was just sculpted by someone who doesn't know shit about spiders or doesn't care. So I'm holding out for something LIKE that sculpt, but closer to realistic spider anatomy. I know a relatively realistic spider BJD currently exists (http://pets.evethecat.com/spiders/), so hopefully someone someday will make one with a humanoid torso and I can keep squirreling my money away until then.

Lurk for awhile before trying to jump into conversation, that's for sure.
>>
>>5306651
I can lurk, and was planning on doing so regardless of whether or not I ever feel the urge to post. I probably won't ever post.

I just want to read about all of the drama and not get involved in any of it.
>>
>>5306655
It's worth joining and lurking then, yes. Especially in the terrible transactions section, since there are crappy buyers/sellers you don't necessarily see on FB, Tumblr or DOA.
>>
>>5306642
While I'm kinda an active poster there I personally don't think it's worth posting as a new person.

DoD itself is pretty much dead and you have only one really active thread, and that is the Dear Diary one where people just chat.
Since they all know each other for a while now the topics can be pretty personal and they are seldom talking about dolls (many of them are not even really active anymore accept for having a close eye on the community).
As a new person you will need a lot of time till you are accepted in the group and they are all "no bullshit" type of people.
So if you are a jerk or act like a retard you will quickly be kicked out.
Itself all these people are very nice and helpful.

Better use DoD as a source for ye olde drama, just keep in mind that all is in the Archive and you need to dig around a bit.
>>
>>5306520
how dumb do people have to be to not see that no head will work on the 5th motif body but the ones specifically made for it? just because both are on the dollshe site doesn't mean they are interchangeable. plus she got honeyskin. what a waste of money for a doll that will never look good.
>>
>>5306877

I wouldn't even say DoD is no bullshit anymore. It's literally a tumblr level hugbox for middle age women who don't even care about the hobby anymore.
>>
>>5307130
It depends, they are more like sleeping dragons.
If you poke them the wrong way they lash out.

Difference is that back then everything was mocked and pretty much everyone was fucked just for the sake of it (like 4chan does it).
But to be honest, most of the shit just got old and being a dick for the sake of being a dick is just not interesting anymore.
And back then things were mocked that nowadays are seen as "yeah, uh, seen a million times, no one cares".
Shitty looking dolls from yaoi girls won't bring people out of their holes again.

Not to mention that there are too many people lurking on DoD who then whine on some confession Tumblr about it.
Back then people at least whined with their name attached to it.

I own a traditional mannequin, she chills out in the living room. It's a pain in the ass to dress her but it's refreshing to be able to go down to Kmart or Target and buy clothes for her there. Sometimes I put my clothes on her and pin them to fit. She actually makes more of an impression with guests than the dolls. I've loved shop mannequins since I was small so it's also a kind of lifelong dream to own one.

All that being said though, it would be fun to have a life sized BJD that you could pose. I'm kind of eyeing up a Trinity for that reason, even though they're child-sized. Mannequins are actually a pain in the ass to get a hold of here in the boonies. Cost about as much as an MSD for a new one. The one I had my heart set on was second hand and a little grubby, but it wasn't anything a magic eraser couldn't fix.

the people who steal doll pics to paint over aren't part of the doll community, that's why people don't find them. when they ARE found, there usually IS a big stink about it, but nothing ever happens.

this is the pic they posted, but i can't find a bigger version of it anywhere. still, its clear that the artwork is traced.

There are actually quite a few, anon, but they're limited. For the far right, Luts Yul Satrysse comes to mind. Soom Amber/Ai/Afi/Lig/Nodia. A couple of those derpy as fuck Kaye Wiggs dolls have those lop ears now. Souldoll Aehael has them, but also probably has a crater on her forehead to accommodate her horn. Impldoll has Karena, which isn't as awful as their other sculpts, but she has hair sculpting on her forehead.

The one of the left, you may look into finding bunny fantasy dolls, like Soom Flint/Hawa or Leeke/Pipos doll make/used to make optional ears that you could put on any doll for the lop bunny ears.

>>
>>5309650
Did you? Or are you the same anon who implied the use of a smudge tool when anyone who's ever used Sai would know they were obviously using a modified marker tool.

Is there something to be said about the fast that Saranaji seems to use a fuckton of dolls are reference? Eh, sure, if you're gonna be really fucking anal about it. You can call them a slave to references if it makes you happy.

But if you really look at the images closely (especially the Book cover vs the Julia Cross image, you'll see lots of differences that usually come about when you're looking at an image rather than directly tracing over it.

So go ahead and bitch about it. But that person's art is still pretty fair game until evidence on the contrary surfaces.

The cover image in >>5308784 looks different because the photo they traced over is a different one of the same mold, and the person who noticed it was an LLT Roderich couldn't find the exact photo. Granted, the Zaoll photo (>>5308861) could be someone using reference, since we don't have the original photo at hand to compare, but why would you even bother defending something like >>5308940? We aren't idiots, we're aware art ref exists and are not discussing that.

Were you around during the whole Mijne Schaatje debacle? This is clearly not the same thing as being inspired by or referring to photos of dolls (for example, the way the mangaka of Alichino was, who modeled a character on Luts El and was influenced by Luts and Volks in her style; or how Fishcake uses hers as models for paintings, pic related, and several other people on DoA do too). This instead is opening up photoshop, plopping a doll picture in, and playing with vectors, filters and layers for a couple hours.

>>

You responded to "did you look at the images in this thread" with "did you?" implying that you were talking about/being dismissive of all of them, not just the LLT elf and Zaoll (and anon is right, the LLT elf is probably a traced photo -- what, you think it's just a coincidence that they suck at rendering hair and the other guy is clearly a filtered stock photo?)

It's also sort of pedantic to act as though using Sai is at all relevant to being against tracing art. I don't use Sai, but I'm pretty sure I don't know what half the tools in Manga Studio are called because I'm just familiar with their location and function instead, and I just don't see how that makes me ignorant at all.
>>
>>5308940
I thought these looked familiar. I somehow ended up downloading them for my Sims game.
>>
>>5309960
Mate, you need to look at more digipaints, because if that's your metric you'd be accusing a lot of artists of ~tracing~

A lot of artists get lazy after doing the face. Hell, even the internet's favorite digital artist Sakimichan is guilty of that.

And what's to comment on? The bluefairy ones are like early 2000s vector trace overs. It's completely not in the same league as all the other digital paintings everyone's bitching about.

>>5309985
See above. Also, it's not about knowing what the hell the tool is called, it's about claiming something was done via smudging and being so cocksure about it, when if you knew what those tools did, you would be able to tell that a specific tool is the reason it has that effect.

And honestly, the cover exhibits laziness more than it proves tracing. If everything were just photos painted over, even the headless dude should be rendered the same as the other guy's face.
>>
>>5310144
I feel ike you're letting your personal fondness for the artist of the green painting get in the way of realizing that this is a really lazy thing to do, leaving aside people who do the completely different thing of using photos as reference.

>A lot of artists get lazy after doing the face. Hell, even the internet's favorite digital artist Sakimichan is guilty of that.

Sakimichan is also shit and overhyped.
She suffers heavily from same-face, her art is boring and generic and she puts zero thought into her concepts.
She just knows what sells well and uses it to squeeze more money out of her fans.
Definitely not the best example to excuse "artists get lazy sometimes", especially because even her faces are lazy.

References are important to use, but some people never learn how to correctly use them.
If I look at your picture and can immediately say what was your reference (especially when it was another piece of art) then something is wrong.
References are supposed to help you learning and guide you through doing something you are unfamiliar with, not some base for a copy.

However, I guess the reason this artist tends to it is the same why some people take own reference photos and then use it as their base layer: lack of time.
I know a lot of really good artists working for bigger companies that have to churn out big artworks in a short time frame, and they often ask someone to pose for them, take a photo and then work on top of it.
Saves time, looks good anyway and because it's your own photo you don't get in trouble.

However, she's not using her own photos, and the overlay is too good to be done by eye but still not a 100% copy.
I assume she took it as a base, put another layer on, started painting and then changed a few things to fit her image.
No smudge finger, just good ol' digital tracing.
>>
>>5310144

Even if the example you posted is lazy it still looks like it was all drawn as one piece where as this

>>5308861

Looks like someone flat out traced a dolls face and then drew the body from scratch. It isn't just that the body is lazy it's almost in a completely different style than the face. The hair line is too low and slopilly done and the whole thing is a porportianal mess. It is clearly a trace job.

>>5310419

Pretty much this. It's fine to take your own photos and trace them if that's what want but it's not ok to take others photos and trace them. I have no idea why that's so hard for "its not a smudge tool!!" Anon to understand.

I don't really think it matters in this case, dollmakers doing doll traces doesn't piss me off as much as people who are professional artists or making $$$ of their stuff, like how Mijn Schatje had actual gallery shows and sold pieces for thousands of dollars.

> I'm still not sure they were recasts
They've got to be. The Chalco I'm pretty sure is a recast, since Alik's photo of the word "Chalco" written on the inside looks EXACTLY like how a recast one would look; the written name is one of the more shallow indents on the inside of the head so it easily loses detail when recast. Dunno about the Amber, we can see fuckall inside of its head, but what are the chances she has a recast Chalco with a bad certificate and a legit Amber with an also bad certificate.

Jesus, just that undisclosed ear mod without all of this other nonsense would be grounds for negative feedback.

>>
>>5312166
They said they were going to try and do it via PM which is why they didn't make any more posts in the thread. Maybe their paypal claim actually went through though? Since alquaev didn't mention it, and the reason Alik's didn't work was from doing a longish layaway.

Who knows.

welp, time for a new body I suppose.

Vince_twilight paid through layaway too, iirc. It was probably very short, seeing as they got the head from Russia in a short span.

Stands and photoshop.
They take a picture of the scene without the doll, then take one with the doll and erase the stand.

Blush the neck to match? Or commission a blush from someone that owns an airbrush and has experience with this (might be a pain, especially if you have to dismantle your doll to mail the neck/torso, but it's got to be less effort than buying a new body.)

She might not be that bad. One of the Mandarake photographers tends to shoot EVERYTHING really yellow. I have seen this on other dolls too that were way too new to be so yellowed.

>>5313144
The jumper looks great on both, but the blouse's sleeves are a little long for a shinki (Nothing major at all, they just hit a bit down the hand instead of stopping at the wrist) and Polynian shoulders are a bit high, so they always look like they're in a state of perpetual shrugging when they wear anything with sleeves.

>she owns a fuckton of reborns
>also has boxes and boxes of clothes and toys for them
>she keeps buying expensive cribs and prams (most real kids don't even get ones that expensive)

>MIL is frail and has severe health issues
>one day she falls whilst at the house alone
>she manages to call an ambulance
>paramedics rock up to take her to hospital
>they try to take all the reborns with them, thinking they're actual babies
>>
>>5314183
Kek
>>
>>5314183
is she a hoarder?
>>
>>5314189
Just a collector. I think growing up poor and the fact that her kids moved away and dropped contact were a big driving force behind it. She also has Cherished Teddies and Troll Dolls. I know that she can/does let go of things which is something hoarders struggle with.
>>
>>5314183
Wait, haha, what? That's hilarious. Although I'm not sure I understand. Like...they just saw a couple and thought "oh no a few unconscious babies?!" and started to pick them up before realizing they weren't real, right? And weren't actually loading dozens of reborns into an ambulance? The former I can see, the latter just confuses me.
>>
>>5314201
conceivably they could have pushed them in the strollers if they thought they were sleeping
>>
>>5314201

It went more like this:
>MIL collapses but manages to get to the phone near the front door
>paramedics walk in and she's the first thing they see, there's no cribs/prams immediately near her
>they start to treat her
>paramedics then notice the multiple cribs and can see from a distance that there's bodies in them
>they don't get up close because they're still treating her
>they then start asking her if there's someone close by that can care for the babies
>she keeps trying to tell them that it's fine
>they think she's in shock and confused after the fall, surely a grandma would want someone to care for the babies?!?!
>they get her stable and go over to check
>once they're close enough they realize they're fake

I can't blame them, really. She was the patient they were called to assist and from a distance those Reborns are freakishly real.
>>
>>5314202
Those reborns are just freakish point blank.
I understand there's a niche to fill but babies in general when they look that young creep me out. Mum and I went to a craft convention once and there was a whole both of them in various expressions from crying to laughing and sleeping, even one pooping and I just...*shudders*
>>
>>5314240
I never understood why so many people are into babies, no matter if Reborn or not, or other dolls resembling children that constantly cry.
My grandmother had several huge paintings across her house of crying children.
Why?!
And on the sofa you had dolls that cried too.
I know she loved children and thought it was cute, but still.

I just don't get why anybody would like that and call it cute.
I don't even like children and it still irks the fuck out of me.
To me it either seems like some really awful fetish or downright sadism.
>>
>>5314115
Reborns get birth defects?
>>
>>5314266

I know it's hard to belive anon, but some people really like babies.

>I know she loved children and thought it was cute, but still.

Then you know why she liked them? Why is it so hard for people to imagine why others like something they don't. I don't like kids either but I'm not fucking flabbergasted by those that do.
>>
>>5314396
Uh, did you read the part about the crying?
I didn't mind the dolls or the paintings of children, I thought it was creepy that they were crying.
There is nothing nice and cute about crying children.
Children don't cry with distorted faces because thev have a good time and are happy usually.
Why would you like to have a dozen of faces in you apartment showing sad children looking like they are in pain?

I'm not into children, this is true, but the thing that disturbs me how many people are into CRYING children figures, paintings, dolls and whatnot.
Laughing, smiling and such is okay, but why the crying?
>>
>>5314396
See it like that, swap the word babies for anything else...women, cute little animals.

Would you still say "well, uh, some people just like women?" when I say I think it's creepy to have a house full of pictures of women crying and looking like they are in pain?
Or "some people just like little puppies" when it's figures of puppies looking like they were kicked in the stomach?

>>

>>
>>5314403
I mean, that's different, babies cry as a routine activity whereas adult women do not routi nely grimace in suffering. Come on, anon, don't be obtuse.
>>
>>5314437
And older children?

Even if it's a routine activity they still don't do it because they feel pleasant.
>>
>>5314440
??? No, older children not as much, but isn't this about crying reborns and paintings of babies?
>>
>>5314446
That's why I said "children" all the time and not just babies.
Also the "no matter if reborn or not", because among dolls and figures showing children you also have a lot of crying ones, even non-baby ones.
>>
>>5314115
What in the hell did I just watch?
>>
>>5314464

Maybe the crying images remind them of comforting their real children when they were little? Or maybe it brings out their maternal instinct and need to protect?

The point I was making anon, is that collecting bjds is fucking weird to most non collectors and I think the 'well at least I'm into regular dolls on not those creepy lesser dolls!' Attitude needs to fuck off in this hobby. Nobody has to justify what they like unless it's physically harming others.
>>
>>5314516

IOS renamed it Anos after a while.

How often do you guys to go meetups? All the ones my local group hosts are at busy restaurants and it just makes me uneasy. Tables full of dolls next to food in a crowded room? Nah.
>>
>>5314613
I'll probably order that one. She's the first in the series I like and I kinda got the 1/12 bug ever since I got a bunch of Shinkis anyway.
>>
>>5314750
I haven't been to one in a long, long time, not since the era that freaking KimP was attending our local meetups smelling of fritos and like, crawling under tables to take ~secret photos~ of DoD members. Have been thinking about going again to one but the idea of taking dolls to a restaurant makes me so goddamn uncomfortable. I'm not even sure I would feel okay attending a Volks tea party.

Since you do have a local community, maybe you can suggest an alternate location or an additional meetup in a non-restaurant location (craft stores are a common one, also people's houses, iffy though that may be if you haven't met them before.) People would probably be on board since 'I'd come but don't want my dolls near food' gets brought up on meetup organization threads all the time.

I'd love to see caps of that thread since I'm not in DOA.
>>
>>5314755
Well, I've attended one meetup, felt extremely awkward being around them and never went back. A majority of them were older (45yr+) women with 10 tinies in the purses or hambeast weebs who cuddled their ~sexy boys~ with crayola faceups and ratty fur wigs.
I saw one normal looking girl at that meetup who sat there looking very uneasy and sat far away from everyone and didn't say anything and that was the last time I saw her. The comm leaders are all best friends and control where the meets are planned and they only ever pick restaurants, twice a month, every month.
>>
>>5314750
Never. I just enjoy my dolls. 4chan is the only "community" I participate in. Sometimes I scroll through tumblr for laughs and doll pics.
>>
>>5314810
Aw, that's a shame. Those two types of people make up the majority of most communities but if there are a large amount of people in your area then the tiny portion of approachable and chill people (if in this case it was just you and the girl) will ideally be large enough to hang out with and make going to meets worth it.
>>
>>5314796
I actually think that's okay, in a different type of way.
People who collect that stuff know usually that it's not your average shit (the ones who actually pretend it's totally normal with zero self-awareness are the creepy ones) and don't want you to think it is.
It's weird shit, all parties know it's weird and that's it.
Like the difference between a male person that likes MLP and your usual brony wanting to fuck Fluttershy who doesn't get why people stare at him when he's wearing a "proud pony lover" shirt when going outside.
The first one might have an unusual taste but the latter is definitely the weirdo.
As long as people know that what they like is not the norm and handle it properly it's alright.
I know that people think it's weird I own dolls and might feel unpleasant when going into a room full of them, but I don't pretend it's "totally normal, not creepy, look at me stroking them while calling them my children, tehee".

However, little grandma that sits surrounded by crying children and goes on about how cuuuute that is to have faces around her distorted in pain?
And not getting at all that this makes visitors feel a bit unpleasant?
Weird as fuck.
>>
>>5314750
Only at conventions. My local community is also big on the restaurant thing, which I never understood. Have we never heard of social norms? No? Oh, who am I kidding, of course not.

You can always suggest another place. Best non-convention meetup I went to was at Dave and Busters. It was about 15 people and also the host's birthday party, so she only invited the members she personally liked. You really cannot bring rainbow haired hags who carry 20 dolls in a stroller to Dave and Busters.
>>
>>5314836
>goes on about how cuuuute that is to have faces around her distorted in pain
Okay now you're just wholesale bullshitting.
>>
>>5314400
I raised two babies. They cry a lot over little things pretty often, it's not always because they are dying or trapped in a coyotes mouth. It's just part of what babies do. And sometimes it's genuinely cute, the faces they make when they are crying. My kids are grown up now and while I don't keep pictures of crying babies around I do get nostalgic when I see pictures of my own babies crying.
In other news I collect a few other toys also and this is the only board that talks less about the hobby than the gossip involved. This general might as well be moved to soc, it's got almost nothing to do with actual dolls. Seriously, if you want your mind blown pick almost any other toy general, they talk about toys weird huh
>>
>>5314891
We usually do talk about dolls imo but there's at least one stupid and long derail every thread
>>
>>5314840
I'm honestly still mostly surprised that people are offended by the thought that I don't think crying children are cute
>>
>>5314904
I don't fucking get it either. I actually think it would stress me out. A person's environment absolutely has an effect on their mood.

Like that study that showed that people in jail calmed down fast when put in a pepto bismol colored room. Having faces around you that are distorted from pain has to have some sort of emotional impact on a person after a while.

I surround my cubicle at work with cute stuff and fun decorations. If I surrounded myself with pictures of people being rescued from concentration camps I probably wouldn't feel so comfortable at my desk.
>>

> I guess its similar to people in the bjd hobby wanting their dolls to be abused or disabled in some way. Its some fucked up caregiver thing.

Eroguro's pretty popular in general, I mean the Catholic Church probably doesn't have 1.25 billion members for nothing after all.
>>
>>5314613
I don't know if they have plans to sell them, but logically speaking they ought to since they already went through the trouble of molding it. As long as they didn't do any modification to the current arms (which, why would they have to), there's nothing stopping using them on older dolls. So given that the major expense of the mold is out of the way they ought to be able to produce the hands themselves cheap enough that it would be a waste to not sell them.
>>
So, do "popular" bjd owners get discussed here as well? The ones that always have drama surrounding them, (elfguz and so on) or is this a generally chill area?
>>
>>5315020
oh gosh my sides
But yeah people like sad/morbid/painful things (don't think crying babies are an example but preemies and beaten-up BJDs seem to qualify)

>>
>>5315033
Once in a while we complain about not liking this doll or that doll (elfgutz is generally frowned upon, yes) but honestly who has the attention to spend a lot of time talking about people whose dolls are ugly just BECAUSE their dolls are ugly? It's less salt and more dolls than truebjdconfessions for sure.
>>
>>5314750
I used to go every month with the old group, who hosted them in a room at the library. It was actually really nice and always free as long as we booked them in advance. Everyone got a table so we ended up with pretty elaborate themed displays that changed each time, which was great since you weren't just seeing the same doll in the same outfit each time.

Since moving though I've only been to a few. The one local group (theres several for some reason) is perfectly nice, but they only have one or two meets a year that aren't at a members house or a restaurant/food court. So far I've only attended their outdoor park meets. Which are admittedly super fun since the park here is gorgeous for photos. I'd love to be more active in it, but I just don't feel comfortable going to someone's house when I've only met them once and don't even know their real name.
>>
>>5315045
Exchange numbers or screennames with people you get along with at the once-in-a-while meets and then get to know them via FB or DoA messages?
I'm pretty sure that's how people usually get close with the others in their community; they interact online a lot between actually seeing one another. The FB group for my local community is fairly active.
>>
>>5315040
Oh good. bjdconfessions is filled with children throwing insults left and right, and DoA is just a hugbox. I was hoping this place would be more real.

>Shinkis
Yup, that's what got me interested, too. I already had a bunch of LA weapons and clothes, so I figured I should just make the jump to actual dolls. I wish there were more 1/12 dolls and clothes, but I guess the overlap between 1/12 figure fans and doll fans is still pretty small.

>>5315034
>Don't they sell all the other hand sets for Azone's 1/6 and 1/12 bodies separately? Can't think of why they wouldn't with these.
They do, but Assault Lily is my first foray into actual dolls (not willing to make the jump to 1/6 stuff... yet.)

Amiami just has the old style bodies and hands up with nothing listed for preorder or anything. I wasn't sure if the Assault Lily used a different set or anything that might keep them from selling it, at least for a while. Anyway, asked over on /a/, but it's not the end of the world if I have to just wait and see.
>>
>>5315120
As far as I know the bodies used for Assault Lily are the same as the ones used for their other Piccos so there's no difference in how the wrist is made. I think the only one that has different wrist joints is the D body that the Pocket Fairies have, which has a thicker smooth peg instead of the thin nubbed one.
>>
>>5315129
The two new Assault Lily girls have a new body. It's called Pure Neemo Joint reinforced Edition or something, which is confusing since it's Picco Neemo sized.

The knees and elbows are different, but most importantly, the new ones have a wrist joint like Figmas, which is why I at least want a new hand set. I'd take a picture, but I only have a shitty cellphone camera.
>>
So I'm not sure what Silverbeam's game plan was here but giving her weird tiny cheap 3D printed things the same name as a fairly well known doll sculptor's company is kinda strange. Like I get her dolls look more, well, twig-like, but she has to have known Twigling was already a thing, right?
>>
>>5315136

Yeah, I get that they're wood critters but what a pants-on-head retarded move. Is it possible she just didn't know about Twigling somehow? There are a lot more artists out there nowadays, I'm not sure Twigling is as universally known in the hobby as she was back when her stuff was some of the first by any Western sculptor.

Although it looks fine in that pic, considering how derp their other sculpts are I suspect it might be one of those heads that looks fine from the front and strange from any other angle (a lot of Chinese companies have this problem, see: Mystic Kids).

Could anyone here tell me if a Dolfie (specifically, DDH-06) head will fit on Iplehouse Elder bodies? I really like the looks of dolfies but I can't afford a whole new doll atm so I've been thinking of just buying a head and settling with it on a body I already own until I can afford a body.

Also are the colors of a Dolfie head and the normal skin on a iplehouse doll similar enough to pass together?
>>
>>5315167
I feel like a DD head on an EID body would look bizarre since the latter is a) so large and thick-necked b) so realistic, but I'll leave specific answering to people who actually own both of them.

If you do get a DDH06 and don't like how it looks on your body, you'll be able to resell it very very easily.

Yeah, getting it home then realising it looks silly is my big fear right now, as said I've only bought dolls I've researched the shit out of before but this one if an enigma.
>>
>>5315167
You would need to heavily mod both the neck and head for this to technically work...and it still would look like shit in the end.

DDs don't have a s-hook system, so the head would need to be modded to allow a hook to go through and rest inside.
The Iplehouse bodies, especially the bigger ones, have a very...uh, unique neck shape (overall thick, pretty wide and flat at the top) which makes it already difficult enough to hybrid with other BJD heads.
DDs have pretty slim necks, small neck holes and there is no way this can look good in the end.

>>

I'm from near there too, never been to a meet or joined an FB group though. I never really thought about it. Is it fun? Sounds like there are mostly socially inept weird people at meetups, from what this guy >>5314810
was saying.

Just get a big hook for the head?
>>
>>5315302

Dollfie dream heads are attached with a tiny hole set on a peg. If you just strung it without any modification it wouldn't have much poseability.

Really though a dollfie dream head on an iplehouse body is a shit idea and it will look laughably bad.
>>

Back in the day, resin head/DD hybrid was a very popular combo because DDs had the cheapest bodies available on the market.

It would probably make a fine 'temporary' body, but it could look pretty silly. Also, iplehouse doesn't tend to sell heads only?So it would probably be more expensive in the long run.
>>
>>5315330
>more expensive
That anon already owns an EID body so they want to cheap out by putting a DD head on it.

I agree that resin head + DD body is a good combo, though. Elfdoll, Zaoll and Musedoll heads all look really good on there; they suit small realistic heads well. (It won't join correctly the other way around because putting a small-neckhole head on a big-neck body like anon wants to do is a lot more effort than, as in the case of a resin head + DD body, putting a big-neckhole head on a small-neck body.

the page is called northern virginia bjd lovers if you're interested. honestly i've never been to one of their meets, but from the facebook posts they seem relatively more "normal" than the stereotypes and horror stories i hear from others.

i've only been to one meet and it was in fredericksburg, virginia. we met up at a super cute book store and everyone was nice, friendly, sanitary (!!!) and so were their dolls. definitely don't let the horror stories scare you away from going to a meet! it's a very nice experience and now that the hobby is a little more widespread, people tend to be more self-controlled than they were a few years ago.
>>
>>5315416

Sorry, I have reading comprehension problems. You could just put a washer in for the s-hook to rest on. DD bodies aren't even expensive, though.

Newline miniatures boots for my planetdoll mini (they're called minis but are 1/6) came in today and I love them. They're a little big on her but the sculpt is young looking so they make her seem kind of like a puppy, which I enjoy.

Anyway the boots are just really fucking nice and I'm delighted. Just sharing in case anyone has a similarly sized doll that is that sort of mature yosd size and has trouble getting shoes for them.

Can someone tell me what's going on with this DD? Did someone put one of the DDdy busts on a normal body, or did they just not push the pieces together all the way or what?

I think it's actually a DDdy body (with the default bust), they just didn't push the upper and lower torso together all the way for whatever reason.

Point Defiance park in Tacoma would be a great place to meet and take photos.

I worry about the crazies though. I also don't do facebook or anything like that to communicate with people.

They have a few still-shooped-but-blank head photos on the head sales page.
ok-doll.com/index.php/info/270.html
It's only about $60... If you ordered as part of a larger Taobao order, it wouldn't be a huge risk.

I for one am not going to tacoma on the bus id get murdered in 10 minutes

there will always be crazies but i hope a few wont be so bad
i've just been posting in a thread on doa but no one can decide on a date

It still would make it difficult for the S-Hook to even go through. Again, th DD hands have a tiny hole where this riffled straw like peg is pushed through.
You wouldn't even be able to just loop the strings through and then add the s-hook when everything is inside the head since EID strings are too thick for that (even if they are still too thin to properly support an EID body).

>>5315167
Having owned both at separate times, there is no way that will work. The EID bodies are fuckhuge and DD neckholes are not even large enough to accomodate that. If you want a cheap body that will look okay, you can use a 1/3 Obitsu body. Those kinds of hybrids are popular.

>I wish there were more 1/12 dolls and clothes

The problem is that the 1/12 doll scene apparently generally glues their dolls into their clothes while we would like to get them on an off again.

Also 99% of all 1/12 dolls use normal, life-like proportions, which do not mix with our toys.
