I wanted to do that initially and couldn't, which is why I'd asked about alternate gimmicks earlier. Boots with wheels actually inside of them can be an effort to pull off, and at the size this lady is at it can't really be done in a way that looks good without taking up too much space.

>>5298816
I was thinking of making lots of swappable parts for different football positions actually. In any case, it'd be fun, but it'd also have the big disadvantage of being less feasible- when I actually build something I'd like some variety and not to have too much to buy at once.

>>5298819
Please no. Generic grey greeblefests are no fun, and besides that "western" mecha as you seem to put it seems like boring Battletech or other generic dime-a-dozen American junk. If you have to indulge your reelism and want combat robots at least do Dougram or Robot Jox or anything that isn't so boring.

Plus, where's the fun? I just don't get reelism anymore. Go nuts, don't just make some boring military blob.

Giant Robo is great, by the way.

I mentioned Dougram because BT owes its existence to it, but there's plenty of "real" robot anime and the like, e.g. VOTOMS, M3, any random Gundam, or other stuff.

In any case real/super is a silly and inaccurate monkier. Robots should just be robots. Putting any thought into it besides light justification and "because it's cool" is going to start problems.
>>
>>5298889
you should post toy gifs and not take up the image limit with shit cartoons that don't belong here, degenerate
>>
>>5298881
If we have to go with a western faction vs. eastern faction in a mecha theme I'd focus more on haphazard designs in the vein of the Russian and Chinese jaeagers from Pacific Rim or Chappie for the western ones instead of faux-military shit. That or retro sci-fi.

We need a mecha challenge next month I think.

Gotcha. Dougram has some Max Factory kits as well as Revoltechs.

Come to think of it, Combat Armors would make good Lego deisgns. Not too blocky, varied anyway, lots of equipment, not too many greebles, and both sides are somewhat in the right.

Not to continue the off-topic bits too much, but I didn't offend you, did I? You seem a little miffed. I'd still give Giant Robo a chance.

Nah man. Western design philosphy is what counts, militarism not so much. Japanese guys do what they like.

>>5298915
Not really what makes something "western", it's just more common to westren stuff because Westren stuff thinks that makes the robot more real. Nips don't seem to care.

Hy-Gogg would be a good other Gundam exampe here, or else the Gwigsy, Ball, Kampfer, Xamel, etc. Hell, maybe even Acguy or arguably Zock.

Just out of the parts in the picture? I'd say that's a pretty nice job. If you rotated the blade to face a direction that could work in your favor. What's up with its head though?
Additionally, if you use those bend parts you used for the boots for the arms instead of the ball joints and use those ball joints in the boots, you get a little more articulation.

Both were bought for 40 dollarydoos on eBay, single bidder. 90-99% complete, missing a trans orange head from one unfortunately but with the meat of the vehicle its no big deal.

I also got the agents sub with the gitd octopus, I'm thiknkjg of combining the 3 into a bigger mesh-rotor chopper with some Thunderbirds/cyberpunk flair as a sort of "could have been" for the new ultra-agents chopper.

I don't understand, what other use for mechs are there? I mean mechs aren't practical but the closest thing I could see practical use for them is military use.
Also when I say "western" design I mean the near future minimalist design, function over form. While I enjoy mechas in the vein of anime I just want diversity in my theme line. Not being able to enjoy both design aspects is kinda dumb.

>what other use for mechs are there?
How do you mean? If you mean purposes in life there's construction, transport, EMS services, industrial purposes of all kinds, public relations (even as giants, it's no stretch of the imagination), or other pubic services.

With a concept as inherently ridiculous as mecha as a genre there's no point to even mentioning the word "practical", no matter what you're going to lose out if you put any thought into it besides "it's cool".

"Western" design in the sense you mentioned I had noted isn't really what makes something western. Western designs are distinguished by visible traits, not conceptual ones, and they usually have nothing to do with militarism or "practicality". I enjoy practical or "real" robots as much as the next guy, but most of the time I find when people try to make practical robots, Americans do it well IRL and then it varies wildly. British IMO have it fine on both fronts, Japs too but they also have the most exampes by far. There's also poor designs on all fronts.

Don't get me wrong, I think yours is alright. The question is, could you put a minifig in it? Also I derailed this topic way too much with robot nonsense and I want to put a stop to it.

TL;DR Lots of stuff tacked together at once isn't better or more practical than something that doesn't have lots of stuff tacked onto it at once, it's just more cluttered visually.

I really like this set as a whole, the "big vehicle separates into small ones" is a very underrated gimmick and the colors are pretty nice on the new photos. The tiny robots are cute, too, and it has one of the best bad guys on top of that.

The only underwhelming Nexo sets are, at least for me, Merlock's library and the robo-horse (it looks better as a bike but it's still rather lame and the white knight looks horrible); I'm not really interested in the ultimate figures either save for Lavaria, but they seem like an improvement over spinners and speedors.

Wasn't it the case with the sensei and girl in Ninjago initially too? I'm assuming Axel and the white knight will be in multiple wave 2 sets together with all the villains we've seen so far in promo shots (snake lady, other lady, burning guy with that UA fire helmet) and the second version of the generic mook.
>>
>>5300025
i think so, and most likely they would have them in save two, especially if they keep going with nexo-max sets

im just a bit disappointed theres one of him, and he's in the biggest set only
>>
>>5300027
I would be less disappointed if he had one of these ultimate-stand-weapon set-whatever things. Who the hell will even buy the kid instead of him? I doubt kids will since weird figures are usually more popular with them so Axel would make a lot of sense as one of these (snakes and big head skeletons were the most popular Ninjago spinners among kids afaik, sensei was a shelfwarmer).
>>

Axl is confirmed for summer for ultimate sets.

Also, who else is, apart from, as I assume, white knight?

Considering how Lavaria has those huge spider legs and all of them have weird weapon attachments I'd imagine they'll keep Axel the same, just with less accessories than the rest has.

The black ones often have very well preserved logos too. I do think yoi might be onto something with the color making him less popular with kids, not sure what's the deal with the black ones though, especially since it was the rares variant (only 8 sets, the rest is in around 30 each).

I'm not a fan of the normal stud shooters but this one looks pretty nice and I like how many small sets feature it.

Could be because the gold planet is backed by white, so when the gold flakes off all that's visible is a red slash? I've got a bunch of old Classic Space and almost every white is like that.

>do think yoi might be onto something with the color making him less popular with kids, not sure what's the deal with the black ones though, especially since it was the rares variant (only 8 sets, the rest is in around 30 each).
>White seem to be on average be in the worst state, red and blue are somewhere in between

It has nothing to do with popularity and everything to do with the printing application. Different colored torsos got different kinds of printing, because what shows up well on a light-colored torso doesn't necessarily show up well on a dark-colored torso. Because of the differences in composition, some of the logos turned out to be much more durable than others. This wasn't a big deal at the time, because the pieces were new, but now decades later you can see which ones held up more.

There have been a few pictures posted in Lego General threads in the past of collections of old spacemen, and the variation of wear patterns tends to be the same within like colors. Red torsos usually have pure white silhouettes, while yellow ones hold the gold and red the best.

Hey all, anybody here especially familiar with the Lego train stuff?

I have my own house and now have the funding to do some shit I actually want to do, so I am ideally looking to build a permanent(?) layout with scenery on 2 to 3 custom made tables that I can lock together with clasps or something, I've no idea yet what my options are but I'm hoping for something that can be collapsed and moved or carried to another room / out of the house without too much trouble.

Pic related is my best option to work with in terms of space, 2 inches = 1 square (rounded down).
Black: Walls.
Blue: Free space, I can use all of it up and not give a damn.
Green: Could use it in a pinch, a bit is fine but a lot / all of it and I have to start giving things up I don't want to give up (right side) or start getting hemmed in a bit (left side).
Red: Immoveable stuff (radiator, my computer desk.)
Orange: A window.
Not 100% set in stone, I could have it encroach into the white space a little bit for sufficiently good reason.

Ideally I'd like enough of a layout to run two trains simultaneously, with some remote controlled points for some sidings or alternate routes, but I'll take what I can get. I don't even know where to begin or if I even have enough room here for this, if worse comes to worse I could conceivably cannibalize an 8ftx8ft area of my dining room to work with but that's an absolute last resort as I wouldn't get to enjoy it while sat at my PC and I'd have to give up the ability to play Dead of Winter and other board games with my friends, as there would no longer be room.

What do? Do I even have room for such a thing? Any advice?

8 curve tracks makes a half-circle that's 88 studs or about 26" across. By "two trains simultaneously" I assume you want to do a two-track layout, so you'll need to incorporate another 32 studs or 10 inches into that curve. The very minimum you'll need is 120 studs or ~36" inches. for a parallel curve like pic related.

To put it simply, if you want something not cramped and your tables can't hold more than three 32x32 baseplates you should probably do a single track layout. Maybe put a yard to hold trains near your desk?

Eh, Phasma still has a little mystery. A lot of normies still dont realize its Gwen Christie in the armor, quite a few of us weirdos and turbo nerds still dont know if shell be an alien/human/cyborg or some hybrid of all of them. Hell, theres a very unique and awesome lightsaber that is supposedly hers thats been seen in the concept art, but has NOT been shown in any of the media yet (in fact, a saber builder built a run of about 15 of them, full sound and battle ready. I would have bought one, but starting price was like $1500...).

My point is, shes the "Boba" of this so far. Stands out,, looks pretty cool, has some mystery around her, and not to mention her toys sold out like crazy.

I only pointed out that finn wont sell because most of his other toys are NOT selling. I remember going to TRU and Walmart and a few other stores late evening on force friday and the walls were completely stocked with his shit, and every other slot was bare. Call it people being racist or whatever, but his toys are NOT popular. I still say their biggest mistake was the way they introduced him in the initial trailer, they really did make him look like a monkey/black stereotype. If thy had introduced him better, people may have warmed up to him more (I know I PERSONALLY have since the newer trailers have come out).

I agree with the introduction, I don't really think there's been one shot of him in the trailers where he hasn't had his lower lip jutting out and panting. That said, the only bit in the adverts that appealed to me was the first order shit and Han Solo/Chewie for nostalgia.

Legit question here, what exactly is the appeal of Jang and his set reviews? From what I've seen of them, he doesn't actually part out the set to show any new parts, or build the set to showcase any intricate techniques. All he seems to do is just point out features that you'd more than likely be able to see for yourself on the box the build comes in.

Not trying to bash the guy or any of his viewers, but it's just something I've always been curious about.

Point is, kids HAVENT eaten that shit up yet, and the toys have been out, what, like 5 months now? Between his bad reveal in the first trailer and the fact that nothing is known about him other than:

>black

>storm trooper or ex storm trooper

>can barely breath and sweats way too much

At some point he grabs lukes saber. Who knows what happens from there. (I personally think it might be Jar Jar Abrams pulling another "no, its definitely NOT Khan!" red herring on us, but who really knows at this point.)

Its going to be some time before he is fully accepted. For the record I feel the same way about Rey as well, but she seems to have latched on with the fans a little bit at least.

>>5301054
That wasnt him that made that joke originally, it was me, and the guy who talked about it on /pol/ was not me. I was in that thread though, and laughing along with them at how easy it is to bait other boards sometimes.

Seriously, some people on these other boards need to grow a thicker skin.

And before you start with the "hur dur, /pol/ racist" bullshit, I also earlier said Finn, as a character so far HAS grown on me. And I going into that blind, I have never seen anything else he has been in (Attack the Block, and wasnt he in The Wire, or something?) and dont know if he is a good or mediocre actor, but I do remain open minded about it.

the only thing im upset about is related to the shield powers
it seems every set gets at least 1 extra shield, but virtually (literally?) none of them but the ultimate sets actually SHOW the weapons from the alt shields
Clay's Rumble Blade aka the tardtank has three shields, but no extra parts showing what they would be
and the ultimate sets kinda feel like the alt shields are just thrown in as part filler

I have a feeling that majority of the Nexo Powers are buffs on attributes you can't properly portray in Lego..
>like Aaron's speed or Axl's strength in the Fortrex
While some of the visible upgrades may not be noticed at first glance
>Lance's scorpion shield gives him a jet-tail and a spear-tipped lance in Merlok's Library, Aaron gets a fire-shooting crossbow in the lava golem set
And a few could simply be directly linked to the vehicles.
>King's Mech, Clay's Rumble Blade

I don't think the extra shields need to have their powers on display.

Ninjago and City are the main cash cows, actually, and it's not going to change.

Additionally, while USA seemingly gets Ninjago first and then NK, at least some parts of Europe will get NK in January, but Ninjago (and presumably bonkle) in April.

A thread or two ago some anon listed the release dates from the retail catalogue, I think that might be what he's refering to. I don't recall that post mentioning bonkle though, just Ninjago (April in yurop), NK (January as stated above), city (january everywhere), and mixels (police/music/castle wave in february, the other one in may)

Pretty sure he also said CMF series 15 is set for a february release too.

You should be able to get waaaaay more than that, in both instances.

Cafe Corner goes for like, $1000, opened. I've seen ones that are missing the minifigures and only about, 80% complete go for $600 or more.

And parting out might put you just under what you'd get for the complete set.

The Green Grocer has some sand green pieces exclusive to that set, about 50 or 60 pieces (the sand green with the notch in it, I think) and they sell for a good $3~$4 each.

Shirts yes. Also medium blue torsos with dark grey SWAT vests but jackets in that color look weird, especially the cut they chose.

The lighter blues only work for shirts. I wish they would go bak to dark blue designs. World City had a great shirt torso but in like 3 sets only and the best cop design was funnily enough a CMF.

And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name - bricklink. The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority. One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was filled with wonder and followed the beast

It's all true, man. Not only I refuse to use bricklink up to this day, but also get nightmares after even hearing it mentioned in passing.

>>5302950
Series 9 cop? I like him too, but my fave is the TLM Bad Cop/Good Cop/Scribbleface. World City was alright but they had like 6 designs for basic cops and it was a mess (the men in black, police chief and tiles with printed badges were amazing, though). Same with their lifeguard theme iirc (only source of orange hands for a long while).

MOCers don't tend to share their builds very often. Most of the time it's just because they didn't think tto do it, and not because of trying to be super-protective or something.

Got most of the parts for my 14xx class engine (Well, I copied the design from a flickr but still), so I figured I'd build it as a test since the only parts I need were just basic plates and stuff for the boiler. I also need an actual PF motor to throw in there to test if it can actually take curves as-is (I got one of those RC motors from the train sets that were in the transitional phase between 9V and PF, but no way of powering it).
>>
>>5303452
Actually, florescence is an energetic process. When UV light hits it, the atoms in the plastic actually absorb the photons and emits new ones in a different, lower, frequency. It's the same thing that happens in the coating in fluorescent lamps. And glow-in-the-dark is very similar, just with a delayed instead of instant re-emittance.

Not that anon but I recently pulled the trigger on two for a reasonably good price. Pic related. I would have just bought the set, maybe twice on sale, but the problem is I've already bought pretty much every figure from that set separately. Silly move. Oh well.

Also, update on my A-wing. The solution I had planned for the control jets didn't work out by tension alone, would have needed glue. I think the elastic bands look okay enough. Those caps between the cockpit section and the stabilisers are causing the most trouble for me. Otherwise the model is pretty much done, just waiting for parts in the right colour.

I'm just a collector, haven't dabbled in MOC since I was a kid, but I have been inspired by you guys and I'm looking to start.

I'm downloading LDD at the moment. I heard somebody say earlier that you can load up existing sets; is that a thing? Sort of relevant to >>5303607 >>5303629 because I want to rebuild the newest V-Wing model as an imperial one. (Amazing fleet, by the way.)
>>
>>5303638
>I heard somebody say earlier that you can load up existing sets; is that a thing?
Well kind of. LDD's standard parts inventory consists only of parts in colors that do exist, but not full sets.

Plenty of people put together LDD versions of sets though; there's a thread on Eurobricks with an archive of those files:

>>

I have been building it in LDD and just using a lot of the available bley bricks. Hope it does not cost a bombshell to make because of the colours and if any of you want the file here it is because I am going to be putting it on a hiatus to work on some other projects. http://www.mediafire.com/download/gdfq53kvxwvp4q2/DockingBay327_Gate_InvertedArchPaintRequired.lxf

don't really care about technic, but that's one sick ass ride and colourscheme. Wish lego did more of those in minifig scale. Heard something about speedchapions of a chevrolet of some sort coming up though.

After seeing it from a better angle, it doesn't look as bad as the preliminary images, but I'll probably only build it out of courtesy - the B model looks more like I thought it would be.

>>5304139

It's never too late to start caring about Technig, anon. I lusted after it in the eighties for the functionality that System sets lacked, but I was a brat and therefore too young to buy things. The slightly older me didn't like how skeletal the models looked, but things have been looking much more appealing in recent times.
