When is Monster High going to finally get a rock band? I'm a big fan of Jem but those dolls are ridiculously priced at $120 each and I just want some dolls that come with instruments.

Rainbow Rocks dolls aren't poseable and niether are the new Barbie rock star ones so I'm holding out that MH will do something similar. I imagine Mattel is running out of ideas so it will come sooner or later.

I've only ever seen her at $30 so that sounds good. Personally, I love her articulation, and she actually seems nicer quality wise than the other big girls. Though be warned her hair is almost always terrible. I straightened mine and gave her a sleek a-line haircut.

DON'T use newspaper, whatever you do. The black ink rubs off on anything very easily, but especially squishy vinyl. You'll end up with headlines printed across all of your collection. If you want to spend a little money for protection, I'd recommend getting large plastic bags (either ziplock or freezer bags) and putting either one-doll-per-bag, or if you're like me and have a bunch of variants, one-character-per-bag (because the similar colour schemes are much less likely to transfer). If all else fails a big box will do, just try to keep a steady temp/humidity as too much rapid variation can encourage dyes to leech out.

I used a plastic tub and laid a blanket down, laid down a row of dolls, folded the other half of the blanket on top, added another row and continued.

When I moved I kept the tub with me so I didn't have to worry about transit issues.

For those of you who are genuinely interested (not tryna bring bad vibes here), Isi is based on Choctaw mythology of their deer spirit, the word Isi means Deer in Choctaw. However her clothes and accessories are based on completely different regions and cultures of Native Americans. For example dream catchers and fringe moccasins are from the plains and the print she's wearing is based on Apache clothing. Choctaw is based around southeast US but she's from New Mexico for some reason.
Basically the designer just put together what looked ascetically pleasing without doing too much research.

As for me, I really dig her look and I'ma buy her when I see her in stores.

The issue is that native Americans have been treated as a vaguely mystic monolith with only the barest of differences. The label covers tribes that believed completely different things, lived completely different ways, and spoke completely different languages. On the whole native Americans are treated as interchangeable, which is devaluation at its finest. I think a lot of people don't get it because we're always told its "Native American tribes" and that just makes it sound like a bunch of villages with the same people living in them. To keep with that Europe thing that other anon brought up, its like if someone tried to pass off an Apache thing as being Blackfoot. Most people in the world would have zero idea what the difference is. But if you tried the same thing with a French thing and called it Finnish, people would be screaming bullshit. The two NA cultures are just as far apart as France and Finland, and have about as much in common, but to 99% of the world they're the same thing. The only difference (at least pre-"discovering" America) is that we are taught that Europe is countries and America is tribes.

Monster High does seem to be one of the few girls lines that breaks the 'core' rule. Just about every other line sticks with a certain amount of characters that it knows little girls like, in different outfits or whatever but still the same character. The only other ones that ever really break this are animal-line ones like MLP or LPS. For some reason boys lines are more comfortable with this since MOTU, GI Joe, and others willl just pump out characters.

Does anyone knows what's the "official" height for the MH girls? I mean, I know many dolls are around 25-27cm tall, but how tall are supposed to be their respective characters?

I don't really understand. You're asking how tall the characters in the cartoon are? But you know that the dolls themselves don't accurately represent the heights or body shapes of the cartoon characters right? If you tried to make an actual scale house based on the official heights, none of the dolls would fit right. Draculara and Frankie might be different in the show but in doll form they're the same exact body. Rather than try to do it this way, why don't you try looking at regular Barbie type fashion doll house blueprints online? The scale will work fine for Monster High, and then all you have to do once its built is decorate it to look haunted or whatever. Like, your pic is just a normal Barbie house that's been decorated in theme.

Also as a side note scrapbook paper and quilting fabric are great sources of dollhouse wallpaper, and minky plush fabric is great for carpeting.You can also find cute Halloween stickers and stamps for decor in the scrapbook section too.

Yeah, I was talking about the cartoon characters. I know all the dolls are approximately the same size, but I supposed there were official heights for each character, so I could use an average and work from there. I don't know, maybe Toralei or Lagoona are on the "average" range, so I could use them as base. So, if the Lagoona character is supposed to be 1.75m tall, then a 3×4×2m room would measure 44×59×29cm.

Is just my autism at work.

Look, dude. Its a dollhouse. I know, its going to bug you, scale bugs me too. But dollhouses almost never actually are true scale depictions of a real house. Especially ones for actual children. Its meant to be easy to play with, look nice, and take up a relatively small amount of space in the kids bedroom. A true MH scale house would take up my entire kitchen table, so you want to rein it in a bit. Again, look at the way Barbie houses are designed. They're usually one room deep by two or three rooms wide, two or three rooms tall, and all of that has to be a height that is easy for a child to look into, and a depth that a kid doesn't have to shove their entire arm into to reach. There's no hallways, no closets, stairs are an afterthought, and bathrooms are optional. Its not a real house. Figure out what would be most practical, and do it.

If it helps, on average ceilings in those houses are about 14-15" tall and the rooms are more or less cubic. Don't go more than 15 inches deep. I know its less than 8 foot in real life which makes it more narrow than most rooms, but any deeper and your niece might have trouble playing with it and her parents might not be too happy with you making such a huge toy for them to find room for.

That game is just fetch quest. I feel like theres some potential to one day be a good MH game. Personally I. Think I'd be down for a visual novel type game where you choose your "beastie" and you get to learn more about that particular character's backstory and have a story arch with a good and bad ending or maybe even an RPGs.
Perhaps, on the other hand, the same concept would work a lot better with EAH where you choose your character and decide whether or not to follow or rebel against your destiny.

It's definitely a kids game in that the gameplay is simple as hell, but I think they at least put in some effort in things like the story and making the school look like the one we see in the cartoon. There's an actual plot, loads of character cameos, and some of the dialogue is amusing.

Plus the voice acting is great. It's good to hear Draculaura with her old voice and Cleo being a snarky bitch again

Nobody's replied because there isn't really a great way to do a full body repaint. The different types of plastic make dying impossible, and most other paints will crack at the joints pretty quickly. I've seen one person do a full repaint that didn't, and they used the car vinyl/interior paint option that was already mentioned as having relatively few colours available.

You can get more if you go to a speciality shop, but I've also heard people suggest using modelling spray paints. The Testors brand is mentioned pretty frequently. That said, I doubt even that is going to come in a shade of lavender.

The only other option I can think of, you could do her up in white, then body blush over in shades of lavender.

Pretty much this.
Acrylics aren't too awful, but do rub off at the joints quickly, and can chip/scratch off if you're not careful (or even if you are.) Personally I haven't tried the car paint, but I'd suggest trying that in white and then going over it in the desired colour. Good luck though!

Heya, I'm a super noob. Are any of the dolls easier to pose than the others? I'd really like to get one for figure drawing, but the site says that they don't stand on their own. Does that apply to arms as well, or is it just that they can't support their own weight? Should I get a higher-end one?

Their arms actually have a pretty nice range of motion and I've never had trouble keeping them in position. A lot of other poses can be done, just use a stand to keep them up. My friend put Duce in a dopey running pose, both feet off the ground and he held his pose fine. (Bear in mind some dolls do have looser leg joints that don't always keep in place.)

I might also suggest a Revoltech or Figma figure for posing. I've got a Revo Skeleton (Jason and the Argonauts) and he is capable of a variety of poses and holds them well. Pic related, it's what sold me on him.

Depends on how i feel and what there is on sale - some dolls i can stand to spend a lil more on - some i wont pay MSRP for. I happened upon a 40 percent off Monster High sale on Amazon a few weeks back - ended up snagging the designer Draculaura doll for thirty - and a few other pieces that were dropped in prices. I ended up with all the taller dolls/ghouls being 17 bucks instead of the 23 that TRU was offering at the time. I need to get the larger Elissabat to complete the tall line for this year.
As for if i am hunting down monster high dolls on black friday - i want to - cause they are offering a number of items for more then 50 percent off in my area - but it's going to be a brawl to get them.

People will claim it's a budget line to save low-income families money on dolls (while fully articulated dolls retail for as low as $7-10 at some stores, and these retail for $10-12), or that they're for kids (while still having shoes, crowns, necklaces, and other accessories to pull off and lose).

It's just Mattel being cheap, and seeing how far they can push it, just like Mattel was seeing how far they can go with collectors by making the special release Draculaura. Note how, as soon as they saw there was a maket for it, the "only xxxx made!" label got covered with a sticker?

I got my first EAH doll today and I was planning to get Maddie but Duchess was good as well. I own two Equestria Girls dolls and I wonder why I haven't bought the Ever After High ones first.

They're more affordable, have a larger range of characters to choose from, and the outside packaging is more appealing. Plus you can move their joints and the fact that they have a stand is a god send.

Now I'm just wondering what kind of room/light conditions I need so that the doll doesn't, well, fuck up.

The dolls are generally pretty durable, to be honest. You have to have some pretty long-term, intense UV exposure for them to get messed up. I had to leave home for three months due to an emergency, and the window facing my display got left open during that period by mistake. Said window gets mostly non-direct light, but still has partial exposure all day. Nothing was faded upon my return, thankfully. I've also moved my collection since then to a room with closed shades.

It's more common for clothes to stain the dolls, in all honesty. A lot of people report that dolls with black cloth on pale plastic will have stains. I have only one doll that suffered this though (a Home Ick abbey that was stored wearing a fashion pack set by the previous owner).

As long as they are out of direct sunlight and away from heat and moisture then they'll be just fine. Maintenance is required though, especially with Mattel dolls. The biggest problem being heads that leak glue in to the hair and makes the hair look greasy sometimes go hard so watch out for that. Easily fixed though.

Not really unfortunately for actual figure drawing due to its stylized anatomy. Unless you take advantage of perspective to figure out the proportions on your own knowledge, that's how I do it.
The doll itself accidentally bought it used because I was in a similar situation like yours a year ago and proper posing dolls are expensive, large and awkward to use, wooden ones break easily and I prefer a toy form factor.

Most places didnt have a great selection - and i couldnt bring myself to make it to ToysRUs *only place to have newer stuff in stock.)
My local HEBs had all the exercise set on sale for 4 bucks - along with another wave or two - but they were bought up very quickly.
Lots of scalpers were out in full force -both grabbing cheap electronics and the few toys that were on sale.
