Man, I don't recall 1954 Goji being that scary looking in the movie.

I'd get it, but I also think there will be an inevitable SHMA once the dumb line gets off hiatus...

I really wanted to buy this figure, but I just couldn't. It looks great in photos, but actually holding it in my hands at TRU, something just seemed wrong about it and I can't quite put my finger on it. Like, it's not a QC thing and I'm not bashing the figure; something about it just bothers me. Maybe it's too much like a costume rather than a kaiju?

I just ended up getting the Emergence 1964 SHMA. I love the paint job and it's probably my favourite suit. I'll post pics of him with my sad, wingless Dessy when I get him in November.
>>
>>5226420
You should get him anyway. He's a fantastic figure (best articulation out of all the Neca gojis), he's cheap, and there's no guarantee the monsterarts line will continue.
>>
>>5226434
seriously, get it. it's only $18 and is by far the best NECA godzilla we've gotten. might as well take what we get since there is no guarantee bandai will do a 54.
>>
>>5226434
Eyes should not face forwards on this suit.
>>
>>5226439
I think I'm gonna hold out and wait. It looks great, but like >>5226434 said, there's just something off-putting about it. I think it's the lack of segmentation I don't prefer (to an extent), but I haven't seen it in real life or anything.

I'm also Canadian, so that $18 is gonna be about $30 on Amazon. I don't mind spending $20 because that's nothing, but the $30 range is when I'd rather keep my money if I'm not fully sure on getting it.
>>
>>5226420

Dude he's like 20 bucks, 30 in Canada. Pretty much a steal.
>>
>>5226434

It's meant to look like the suit, in other words: movie accurate.

>>
>>5226505
this, i don't really understand the problem here
>>
>>5226526
Some people prefer their kaijus to look more like what it's supposed to represent than the actual suit, that's all.

Like, I'm glad Ultra-acts don't have flab and suit winkles all over them. They aren't actually supposed to be dudes wearing costumes.
>>
>>5226546

Okay, so you like your figure stylized.
>>
>>5226565
I guess!

Not sure if "stylized" would be the right term though. More like 'realistic', maybe. Whatever.
>>
I just got the Monsterarts Gamera and I can't get the leg section off for the life of me. The figure is pretty stiff in general too.

Any advice?

NECA's 1954 I think is my favorite out of all of them.
>>
>>5226434
I know what you mean.

>what '54 repaint possibilities are there
From NECA? It's almost certain, Any opportunity they get to do a repaint they take it. I don't mean that to throw shade at NECA, it's a smart thing to do. Those repaints cost much less to make (for obvious reasons) so they use that extra dough for more sculpts and tooling in the line. Part of the reason we have all these new monsters for the Pacific Rim line is cus they milked the shit out of that gypsy danger sculpt

I hope this is what monsterarts is doing.... Why else would they only give us all these repaints? Hopefully they're just collecting that extra repaint dough so we can get new figures again
>>
>>5228237
>Why else would they only give us all these repaints?
Because the secondary market is bad, and they want to reissue items that cannot be reissued (because of exclusivity), or release them as an exclusive release to avoid overproduction and shelfwarming?

Not to say milking for more profit isn't the only reason, but some of those dudes really did need to be released again.

I got him when he first came out years ago. He's got only a little bit of paint wear on the very tips of his claws since those are what's always touching the ground. His tail has stayed strong too, unlike my Angurius' who's wire apparently got several breaks in it after only a few months of posing. I guess it's because Baragon's tail goes all the way to the wire while Angy's is more hollow.
And speaking of the tail, I guess be careful when you pose it up as mine has some small cracks on the thin plastic ridges at the very back where it meets the tail.

>>
>>5233133
His design can only do so much, but he's really fun for what he is. His wings work a lot better than I would have expected and I was overall pleasantly surprised. Also all those stands and beams.
>>
I'm thinking about buying a new Monsterarts next week or so when I get paid. Should I go for Godzilla 2000 Special Color or Gamera? They're both about the same price and I can actually find the Godzilla in a store near here, but I'm torn between the two.
>>
>>5233193
Ive seen both those first hand, and while it may be because I lost the Gamera (it was in a store, I had it then put it down and some faggot grabbed it and bought it), but Gamera is cool as shit. He comes with his crazy fore beam and he just looks awesome. On the other hand I own nee color 2000 and it is also amazing, I like it better than my purple finned one. It just looks so spot on to what I imagine Godzilla to be.

So yeah, hope this helped I guess.
>>
>>5233193
I would go for Gamera. We're pretty much guaranteed constant Godzillas from this line. This might be the only Gamera for who knows how long.

And what a fucking great figure it is, its very solid and heavy, which I did not expect. Some of the joints are a bit stiff but that's nothing the hairdryer can't fix. What are the pros and cons of the NECA and Monsterarts 2014 Godzilla?
>>
>>5238568
Don't have the NECA, but
>SHMA
+great articulation
+nice matte finish
+nice beam effect if you get the Spitfire
+regular version can be bought for fairly cheap (like ~4000-5000y)
-regular version has no effects
-regular version has shoddy paint applications on the snout and teeth
-may have misaligned eyes (they're very tiny however, and can easily be fixed yourself)
+/-altered design may or may not be up to your tastes (I prefer the SHMA design over the screen-accurate design)

Also people say the tail pops off on the retail version, but I've never had that problem.
>>
>>5238581
Er, the misaligned pupils part is a regular version issue. The Spitfire and Poster version doesn't have any issues regarding paint apps.

So is monsterarts about dead? I mean... we barely hear from the line, and when they ever do make an announcement it's just a repaint. Or are they just raising this repaint money to fund a new kaiju? Even if that's the case then it sounds like the line isn't doing so hot.

No one will ever give us an articulated Megalon
>>
>>5240185
Neca needs to save up for that one anon. Hopefully they'll make enough this year.
>>
>>5240185
It's pretty baffling that in a time when Godzilla is the most popular it's been in 50 years or so, with a whole new series of both American and Japanese films on the way, that now is when they decide to wind down the line and do nothing with it.
>>
>>5240188
I doubt it. Because of how long it takes for toho to approve of something, theyre Godzilla releases have slowed down insanely. Plus, from what Randy has said on an interview, their deal with toho allowed them one monster, so obviously they picked Godzilla. Buying Godzilla would be worth it because of how many theyd be able to pump out, but you wouldn't be able to do that with any of the other Kaiju, so it wouldn't be a smart investment. Atleast that's how he made it sound.
But on twitter waay waay back he did mention theyd like to do other monsters if possible or something like that.

I wonder if toho is what's holding up bandai with the SHMAs
>>
>>5240190
Toho has been giving companies problems, no?

And even then, popularity doesn't really negate the apparent high licensing costs for other kaijus.
>>

Cool, I didn't know that about the legendary ones though. On that note, Amazon keeps recommending me the '14 monsterarts, is he an upgrade if I already own the neca one or is he on discount for a reason?
>>
>>5242821
I got the NECA and the monsterarts Spitfire version.
I love the Spitfire one because of how much more colorful and visually interesting. The head's probably too big, but it gives it so much more room for detail and also it's got a more interesting paint wash.
My only complaint against it is how light it is and how creaky the plastic making me fear that it'll shatter if it ever takes a tumble.

If you love Legendary G's design, then I'd go with the Monsterarts. If you're more "eh" to it, then the NECA is a fine representation.

A while ago I bought my brother the Neca Burning Godzilla. Right out of the box the head fell off. The rest of the figure is perfect and it looks great but I cannot for the life of me get its head to pop on. Any tips on trying to fix this or is my brother stuck with a headless Godzooky?
>>
>>5243694
Heat it up in hot water and push it down.
Unless the peg broke off or something.
>>
>>5243763
So I should place the head in hot water? I'll try that out. The peg isn't broke as far as I can tell, it's still attached to the neck and all that. Is there a recommended temp to use or just "hot"?
>>

Not quite boiling, just the head and then pop it on.

Ways to fix/save the SHMAs line:

>Kill the SHMA line and merge it with SHF like Ultra Act.

>Reduce the size of the figures to at least the SSSHF size and cut the price of each figure down.

>Release a Showa figure in between a Heisei or Millennium figures.

>Release fan popular monsters, but on Exclusive Bandai.

>Re release certain figures every 6 or so months to keep Scalping at bay.
>>5261361

>>

>>
>>5265379
The thing is that Bandai basically holds all the rights for Godzilla now. They are the reason companies like Marmit, M1, Gigabrain, and other companies cant make new sculpts anymore. Bandai is holding the license to themselves just so they can do nothing with it. Even X plus has to go through bandai to get their license, thats why there have been x plus figures like the roaring godzilla 2014 and biollante being sold on bandai's premium shop. I just wish we could have the variety we once had with godzilla figures. As of now we are pretty much only getting new sculpts from X plus as bandai seems too lazy and everyone else isnt allowed to make any.
>>

Yes, I do think it's a good idea.

>Releases for the Ultra Monsters again.
>Possibly better quality figures.
>Possibly same scale as Figuarts.

Can you think of a soild reason why keeping the line as "Ultra Act" will help it in anyway?
-----------------

>"Why do you want giant monsters and heroes to be in the same scale with six-foot-tall characters in the first place?"

Why would it matter unless you're planning on putting your Riders, Ultras, or other Figuarts next to the monsters? Only thing that would be different would be that you could use Godzilla as a more in scale Kaijin for the hell of it.

Another reason is possible price decrease, even if in the slightest.

Something has to give if people want more monster figures, plus if you want a Taller Godzilla figure, the NECA versions are for you.
>>
>>5267118
>Possibly better quality figures.

Ultra-Acts were just as "quality figures" as Figuarts. They were different, but they weren't shitty.

>Possibly same scale as Figuarts.

Why is that necessarily a good thing?
>>
>>5267240
>"Ultra-Acts were just as "quality figures" as Figuarts. They were different, but they weren't shitty."

I'm not disagreeing with that fully, though I have had a few questionable figures from the line, as well from the Figuarts line.

>"Why is that necessarily a good thing?"

It's not necessarily a bad thing either, it's a chance to try something new and see how the market likes it. Otherwise would you rather get the same mold/figure again, just repackaged under a new name with a possible price up?

If SHMA where like $50-100+, the standard Ultras would be around $40-$50 just based on the size alone.
>>
is kiryu heavy arms worth the 120 price tag? i have and love the original kiryu but im just wonderign if worth?
>>
>>5267513

If you have the original? Eh, not so much. You get some different parts and pieces, for sure, and it makes him more movie accurate/centric. It's still a great figure, and if you want them all, you can do worse. But if you're not needing a Kiryu, and don't want to spend the money, you're fine.

Neca is stingy as fuck. Plenty of US businesses have licensed other Godzilla monsters. Diamond, IDW, Trendmasters. The cost for those rights isn't unreasonable, Neca just doesn't care because its not some cult 80's shit.
>>
>>5271450
Depends on what scale you want.

If you want quality figures around 6 inches, I'd say the bandai Japan vinyls BUT after market prices are a bitch.
If you want bigger scale with amazing quality, like 12" or so, then xplus. But the prices for those are also crazy expensive.
If you want a 6" scale, and want to pay cheap, with varying from bad to just pretty good then get Bandai creations.

Those are my recommendations for non articulated figures.

If you don't mind articulation and want a good quality Godzilla get NECA's 1954. That's the only one I recommend. Good quality figure for only like $19, and easy to find too. That the only NECA one I'd recommend
Monsterarts is the best when it comes to overall quality and articulation but youre paying loads of money for articulation, so it probably isnt worth it to you

I think bandai announced a line called Monsterarts Zero I think? Basically going to be like monsterarts, just with no articulation

The same price the first release did, since it's a reissue and all. Get him at the typical stores, if he's in stock.

I'd avoid sites like Mandarake, Rakuten, etc because you can't really tell which release it is.
>>
How do you clean dust from your monsterarts?

I use warm soapy water and a brush for my vinyls, but somehow I doubt that's effective for SA figures.
>>
>>5280681
...Just do that?
>>
>>5271917
Honestly, with their fragility, creaky platic, paint splotches, and price, the only thing Monsterarts had over Neca is the jointed tails.
>>
>>5281719
And their sculpt. Sadly the amazing sculpts were wasted on mostly Heisei figures.
>>
>>5281806
>wasted

Heisei's the best ones, they deserved all the attention they got.
>>
>>5281814
How were they the best? I loved Biollante and 84, but the rest were not that great at all...
The designs were kinda cool for some of the monsters I guess.
>>
>>5281822

How weren't they the best? Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah was great, SpaceGodzilla was an awesome design, even for a clone monster, they're just solid monster movies. Especially Vs Destroyah, the soundtrack to that one alone is worth mentioning.
>>
>>5281823
The suits used were extremely stiff. Alot of the monster action was either spamming beams or the suits bumping into each other with a few sparks. The movies were extremely boring with random Hollywood references/ ripoffs. Even the millenium series is better that the Heisei series.
>>
>>5281828

You're so wrong it's painful. The suits were amazing pieces of art. You only like the Millenium series because of of the CGI shit they started throwing in.
>>
>>5281838
Your wrong though because The suits were dome better in the Millenium series for the most part. The CGI is pretty shitty though. I prefer the Showa era over both of them.
>>
>>5281838
Also I don't like the Millenium series much at all. There are only two movies out of that era that I seriously Enjoy, Same with the Heisei era. I love most of the movies and designs that came out of the showa era though.
>>
>>5281840

Then you doubly suck. Jesus.
>>
>>5281861
Also what is wrong with their being variety in the line? I would have been fine with a few heisei figures, but we only got one Showa figure.
>>
>>5281823
I like the Heisei series and all, but I wouldn't say its the best. It has a good default look for a lot of monsters, but Showa and Millenium do a lot of things better. As movies, the first 8 or so(up until around Astro Monster)Showa movies are probably the most solid of the series, even if a lot of people think they aren't as overtly cool. The first 3 Heisei movies are really good, but after that its so all over the place. As far as effects go, while the suits in Heisei are painstakingly detailed, the bulk of the suits meant they couldn't move as well as(All-in-all, Tsuburaya's Mothra is more impressive in flight than Heisei Mothra was, for example). The Millenium movies help bring back physicality in the monster fights, with more slashing and biting.

In terms of individual designs, the new monsters are all really cool, though it does disappoint me that the last 3 major ones are all godzilla variations of some kind. Biollante is probably the crown jewel of the lot.As far as recurring monsters go, I can't say I feel like the designs are the best they had overall. Godzilla '89 ranks up high, and Godzilla has a good showing all throughout. But Mechagodzilla is the worst of the 3 MGs easily. Mothra is ok, but too fuzzy to the point of looking ridiculous. Rodan and King Ghidorah are good updates overall, but not necessarily better than their other versions(Rodan's best look is probably his solo movie)

let me see how to clean up this mess...

as far as im concerned, no sculpt is a wasted sculpt (maybe zilla), but i think the anon was just frusterated that the heisei series not only got most of the attention AND many repaints/tweaks, while millennium only got 3 brand-new sculpts(G2K, kiryu, and gigan) and 2 remolds, and showa only has the repaint/original combo of 1964

all eras have their good points desu senpai, my top 10 G movies are a varied combo of all 3. but ill be straight up, I grew up with showa and heisei, but Millennium is my choice pick, i just loved the variety and how each director got to do their own flavor (which may or may not have sat well with you), like the mission impossible series or the star wars trilogy

also, cuz my fave is GxMG and akane is best girl

cant we just all get along?

We'll get something when Godzilla Resurgence gets closer to release.
>>
Gotta say I'm not the biggest fan of NECA but I got the 8-Bit Godzilla and really like it. It's certainly not MonsterArts tier in terms of quality but for $25 it's pretty good and I love the box. If NECA does any other 8-bit figures from stuff I like I'll probably get them too.
>>
>>5282114
It's pretty alright. I thought it was a really cool little "special figure"
>>
so what does /toy/ consider the best of the MonsterArts line? i think its this guy. I just love this fig so much, always wanted a super articulated kiryu fig, but the chogokins always had wierd hips for me and i could never find the big DX models

honestly, even though he lacks in articulation in the legs, Moguera is probably the most faithful of all the figs. I always oved his look and it captured it perfectly, not to mention he got a shit ton of accessories. such an underrated fig imo

Moguera is my absolute favorite. He's so "toho scifi" that it hurts. Drills. Masers. Land and Air separation. Hnnnggghhh. I wish I could get a SHMA of his tank and jet forms but I'm just happy they made him at all.

if you love those forms and youre willing to drop some cash, the DX Moguera has that option. its old-transformers style of transformation where you have to add and take off parts, but its pretty cool

I have only seen the DX on ebay once, and it was way out of my price range. I'm worried I will never see it again. I managed to get SHMA Garuda to partially satisfy my Hesei flying machine fetish, but its just not the same.
>>
>>5283083
Seen it twice. First one I ordered lacked the cannons for Star Falcon, but didn't notice until I already bought and left feedback. My own fault though, the listing never showed them.

Later on found another one with everything, but wasn't gonna drop another $180 for two cannons that didn't matter that much.

with all the heisei love the line has been handing out, im surprised that Land Mogera and Star Falcon HAVENT been a thing yet.

my idea, if tamashii actually can see this: Fukuoka battleset: star falcon and land mogera with soem crystals, the tower, and some cool little buildings

also a monsterarts gunhed would be dope af

Tamashii: gabara!

>>
>>5281806
While the sculpts are better, I don't consider them $60+ more better than an >$20 NECA design.
Like if the original Godzilla Monsterarts and the NECA Heisei Godzilla were released at the same time, I'd have gone NECA without hesitation.
Monsterarts is better, but not enough to justify the price.
>>
>>5281828
As a rabid Godzilla fan who loves Heisei, I gotta agree with you.
Battra (both forms), Mothra (both forms), Space Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, and Destroyah all had very lovely designs, but could clearly barely fucking move.
>>
>>5271456

Is it just me or does the tail on this thung look really stupid? Is it a shelf saving measure? I would have greatly preferred a side swept tail to this goofy pose.
>>
>>5283361
That's no twerk.
>>
>>5283941

Especially considering how much the price has gone up. I remember scoffing at the sixty bucks for Godzilla when he first came out...and then considering how disappointed I was in it, the price stung even more.
>>
>>5284044
It probably looks stupid to you because the Godzilla in the movie wasn't a tail dragger, but they gave his tail movement that imitates the standard Godzilla.
>>
>I would have greatly preferred a side swept tail to this goofy pose.

Ah, the Bandai Creations way of life.
>>
>>5284191
>Godzilla in the movie wasn't a tail dragger
You sure? When he first showed up to fight the muto at the airport, you saw his tail dragging behind him on the pan up.

They very rarely showed a good shot of him full on from the side, and a lot of times his tail was shown in the air, but the overall design kinda doesn't work if his tail isn't dragging along at least some of the time.
>>
>>5284200
He was most definitely not a tail dragger, all the shots with his tail were dangling in the sky. One particular scene that stood out was him going covert behind a building and you can see the tip-to-middle of his tail dangling around on even level.

Also they gave him ugly ass elephant feet, of course he's not a trail dragger.
>>
>>5284204

If that's true then yeesh I'm glad we didn't see much of it in the movie. His tail is so thick at the base it just looks silly bent upwards at such a relatively sharp angle.

I have no problem with his brontosaurus feet. Actually I kind of prefer them, I've always likes those type of feet on large monsters.
>>
>>5284215
I won't knock you for liking what you like but frankly I think the elephant feet say a lot about the misguided design philosophy (or at least "a misguided") of 2014 Goji.

Not only does it aim for a grounded scientific basis for an anthropomorphic message that goes against all reason in the first place, but it deviates from the most iconic imagery of Godzilla, which is the traditional, clawed foot stomp that anybody would recognize. Even the 1998 production understood that when it's first ever design snip was footage of Godzilla stomping a Tyranosaurus skeleton in a museum. You could take a lot of experimentations in it's tail design (which they did), eyes, hands (which were webbed) and plates, but the feet design are something you can't liberally affect and expect to get away it.

It fails not one but two basic occurrences on my litmus test that kinda go against Godzilla, and I don't remember a single noteworthy scene that even justified the impact of his new feet design. There was that airport scene, I guess?
>>
>>5283469
I will take ANYTHING showa. Gabara included... Maybe not Ebirah, but everyone else Im game for
>>
>>5284326
But what if ebirah comes with a super articulated giant condor?
>>
>>5284248
>>5284215
>>5284204

legit what is the big deal with the feet? if anything, the most iconic images of godzilla revolve around upright stature and giant spines that have a large middle row and smaller side rows
>>
my wishlist (tamashii pls)
-Anguirus (any oen really, im fine with all, just dont make him a dwarf like 64 if its showa)
-Mechagodzilla 1(again not a dwarf)
-Godzilla 74/75(again not small)
-KiryuGoji
-FinaruGoji
-Megaguirus
-Gabara (for shits and giggles)
