I'm not usually into City or architectural sets, but I'm in love with the fact that Lego implemented Mixel joints and CCBS hands on this.
More transforming Lego builds are never a bad thing.
>>4543196
CCBS?
>>4543258
Character and Creature Building System. They used silver Hero Factory fists for the roof on the brick building.
>>4543242
that is adorable
new head design incoming. i'm obsessed with tv-head characters and found some inspiration to make it work at this size. colors are still a flustercluck.
>>4543357
here it is from the side, it's got some nice dimension to it and is articulated on a ball joint.
>>4543357
>i'm obsessed with tv-head characters
Who is there besides Canti and Mike the TV?
>>4543370
That guy from Dead Leaves?
Learning how to use LDD. It's kinda a clusterfuck but I enjoyed making it. Just wanted to share it with you all. Still a work in progress, of course.
>>4543412
I wanted to give it a gorilla-like feel. Here's a slightly older version without a head. A minifig can also sit in the chest cockpit.
>>4543196
I'm like, incredibly hype for this, and I've never bought a Modular before.
>>4543457
what's so special about it?
>>4543370
There's one in a Horse the Band music video ("New York City"), a chiptune musician I like (Brother Android) uses a tv-head avatar, a local Seattle artist named Jon Strongbow has a pretty neat illustration of some tv-heads....
Not exactly in-your-face pop culture characters, but they're out there.
So, Rocket Raccoon comes to TRU tomorrow, I think. What's the best way to spend $30 and get him?
Rough draft. I'm no good at building legs/lower body.
>>4543196
I want this something fierce.
Do you guys have any recommendations for display shelves or stands? Looking for something nice to keep my finished projects on.
>>4543625
Ikea floating shelves.
>>4543194
I have an old tub or two of lego. I never use it. Wat do?
>>4543735
sort it and build shit
>>4543743
>sort it
t-there's too much
>>4543196
Oh my god, that is glorious.
>>4543196
Why do modulars have plain smiley faces?
is there a reason?
>>4543357
How about Canti from FLCL?
>>4543775
No real reason, just to hypocritically hearken back to a similar time against a backdrop of complex buildings. Possibly also some marketing tripe for roping in older fans.
>>4543735
Find a young relative to pass it on to, pack it all grabbag style and hold giveaways for the price of shipping, sort it into very basic categories (plates/bricks/slopes/others) and build.
>>4543781
He's already working on a Canti, iirc.
>>4543781
>>4543782
I haven't touched my Canti moc in months, but I got a pretty good start before my attention drifted. I should finish it someday. This other guy is partially inspired by Canti, but I wanted the freedom of making it an original character.
sometimes you just have to stick a big-ass vertical stabiliser on things
>>4543208
INSTRUCTIONS.
NOW.
>>4543196
>CCBS hands? I don't see--
hoooooooly shit
>>4543775
>Why do modulars have plain smiley faces?
>is there a reason?
Because yelling, screaming, angry minifigs would look really out of place.
>>4543751
>t-there's too much
DO IT. Start with the biggest pieces, sort by type. As a bonus, it will refresh your memory about pieces you may have forgotten that you own.
I liked the $100 bill challenge from the last thread, but I worry that it's too exclusive, since not everyone here might have that piece.
>>4543775
Except for local or very limited promotional items Modular buildings are the only sets that produce new smiley heads.
oh boy oh boy, another lego order reached it's destination
second one down. more childhood sets complete :)
>>4543273
why not say hero factory then?
>>4544062
Because its a stupid name and a stupid theme.
>>4544062
>name in my post out of nowhere
How did that happen?
>>4543517
I've always been interested in modulars but until now didn't have the disposable cash to go out and grab one, and also I like the detective shop a lot. Just looking at the set fills me with ideas for hard-boiled detective adventures.
>>4543196
I just noticed the ornamental use of the mixel joints. That's brilliant.
>>4544141
mixel introduced the cup, the ball joint has been around forever
>>4544146
We all know it, but it's nice that the;
"smaller ball joints than the bionicles ones"
have a name of their own.
>>4544150
fine. it just rubs me the wrong way when people disregard jawg or glurt because they don't use ball joints
>>4544152
I can understand that, especially considering that there is far more joints in chima beasts...
I still don't know what is popular about mixels, apart from the joints... how are they interesting ?
>>4544157
they are like pokemon
>>4544157
Some of them are just cute and interesting creatures. A lot of people, including myself, haven't been able to take them apart because they liked their designs so much.
I've been meaning to ask, how do you guys use your mixels? Do you use them as monsters that attack your minifigs? Aliens?
>>4544162
i make murps out of them and put them back to the shoebox signed "lego mixels"
>>4544162
Soley for parts. Gotta love all that cheese.

>Can't be found on the shelves
>Can't be found in the back
>Not anywhere in the store at all
>Find security tag on the floor hastily shoved under its spot on the shelf
>It was stolen
Okay, which one of you guys was it?
>>4544271
Was it a star wars one? Because all I see is lego friends at mine and would never steal those.
>>4544262
>Be LEGO set
>warm shelf for years
>be lost in some warehouse
>sit there for over 20 years
>some scalper wants to make a fortune by selling you next 10 years later
>finally be bougt by some AFOL who never opened his sets because it's a just trophy for him.
..never opened, never enjoyed.
>>4544272
No idea, our database doesn't specify or provide a picture. Probably star wars though since the manager said we were sold out of the "pink one".
>>4544262
Stop it. You're hurting my soul.
Is it okay if I have lots of sets that are built, lots that in big part bags, and lots that sitting in storage built (as well as unopened boxes)? I also MOC, but not very much. I mostly like to build official sets...
I like to think my castle is what an official lego castle set would love to be if it had more budget....and you reminded me; I need to make a little stage for a court jester to perform on.
>>4544275
>*it's a trophy
>>4544276
See, thats why its smart to keep those near the counter because people will realize when a bright pink box disappears. The grey/dark blue coloring of the star wars sets are easy to not notice when gone because of how generic they look when paired next to the other sets.
First glimpse of the UCS Helicarrier spotted in the bumper for the Detective's Office video
>>4544285
Yell at corporate, they decide store layout and display location. Theoretically the security tags are supposed to prevent it but they are mad easy to just peel off.
>Be a Hero Factory set
>Shelfwarm for months
>Get replaced by wave after wave of upgraded versions of yourself
>Never bought because "not piece worthy"
>Know that I won't build up price over time
>"I hate my dad"

>>4544305
The new bionicle is just a hero factory reskin that threw out all the terminology.
>>4544308
Who gives a fuck, Optimus Prime would still be Optimus Prime is he was fuelled by 'Space Koolaid' instead of Energon; just as Bionicle is still Bionicle now that they have 'Masks of Power' instead of Kanohi.
Besides, they kept 'Toa', even if it's not in the set name.

> spiky hair is the same piece as always
Ooooh...
>>4544286
That´s nice I guess. I hope it´s less like the Executor that just had a lame ass tiny bridge that sticks out and ruins the look of the model and more like the 100$ star destroyers with an actual inside.
starting to adapt the theme more into the overall build. i added control knobs to the head that it can reach with its hand as well as some a/v ports on the back.
>>4544339
It's fucking Star Wars. One of the most profitable franchises of all time
>>4544033
Oh wow, I had the McDonald's set as a kid. That makes me feel nostalgic and sad. I have no idea what happened to 90% of my childhood Lego.
So hey, I got the Milano at TRU today and got Rocket. He's really cute.
>>4544480
That's a real set?
>>4544480
you got the full house of the GOTG sets.
i congrat and envy you, order could change.
personally i am not a fan of licensed legos, i know SW saved lego but all these grey ships bore the fuck out of me.
at least GOTG sets are COLOURFUL.
anyway, does anyone else have this set? how do attach the shield to the u clip? becase i can't get it righ on the thick type, is the thin really better for this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcUhWDkQ6sk
this thing is sexy as fuck. holy shit.
Didn't see we switched threads last night. Reposting:
>>4542988
Here is the updated colour scheme, and you were right.
I did like the fact that before it could be mistaken for a civilian vehicle until it opened fire on you, but now it goes much better with the space marines.
>mfw my Cloud Cuckoo Palace fucking crumbled on my hands when i took it out of storage
What the fuck happened here? The place it was in was made out of wood and the room temp was pretty nice, so no heating fucking up the parts.
When i assembled it back, it was somewhat pretty solid again.
It's the china plastic, am i right?
Why is it THIS FUCKING SET that's so marked up to kingdom come everywhere I look?
Bricklink, Amazon, even frigging Ebay!! Yes, I know there's a new Snowspeeder out (I have it), but the entirety of this set is quite appealing. Plenty of other 2013 sets still out and at discounted prices, even.
Was this just the perfect set or something? Limited release? I'd be okay paying $50-60, but not $95+.
>Pic very much related
>>4544522
Bad cop destroyed it.
I'll post some mocs, all of them made using only parts from an official set.
This is the springtime scene polybag.
kaufland, poland, 25zl (~8$)
kinda boring though.
>>4544545
Olivia's treehouse. I wanted to make actual rooms in the tree, but then realized that the bricks were not enough. The upper level is a bit clusterfucky.
>>4544548
Each one of these is a mixel. Sorry for the shitty photos btw.
>>4544548
damn, i love treehouses.
i never had one, i only had a favorite tree i used to climb on.
>they cut it down so only a thin stump left. ;-;
>>4544036
Now i want to see this done with a female minifig.
>>4544556
Also did one of the alternative builds on the back of the box of the Rocky River Retreat set, some things are made up because the photo on the box doesn't show all angles.
This is now the Construction Toys General. You see we need to contain all building brick autists in one thread!
>tfw
It would be almost everything I need, including 3 big plates that haven't been used in anything since 80s in that color.
Oh well. Time to empty the basket once again and go cry myself to sleep again. Maybe my bank account will magically fill itself up.
>>4544580
None of this has any continuity in design...
bricklink babby here.
I've added some stuff to my wanted list (multiple minifigures), now what do I have to do next? How do I get a good deal = not too expensive and if possible only one shop.
I'm kinda confused.....
>>4544607
Just pick one.
Then compare the figs and see if there's any on the same store.
hey y'all! Alien anon from a few threads back, I decided to make my moc on ldd to upload it onto lego ideas because why the heck not
>>4544621
I just have one question, how do you flex this thing around like I have it in the physical moc? is it possible?
>>4544624
This is the tool you are looking for, anon.
>>4544549
Holy crap! I didn't realize that in the third one I used a piece in reddish brown instead of new dark red. I built it days ago and didn't notice before looking at the photo just now, kek.
>>4544608
Thanks.
>>4543357
I'm having trouble figuring out how this is put together.

>>4544621
That xenomorph looks so unhappy. I love it!
>>4544664
A lot of illegal stud-to-technic-hole connections, by the look of it.
>>4543357
>new head design incoming
Thank fucking christ. The minifig heads you were using before looked godawfully silly.
It struck me as a huge waste since the body was so well made, but then topped off in such an underwhelming way.
>>4544697
I'm going to test with your piece, it usually works by clicking the extremities.
Hoever, if the piece was not designed to be in the "flex" category, then ldd will not accept it.
>>4544480
Just built the Milano. It sure is great, but I'm gonna replace the GIANT boom box with a 1x3 Lego boom box. I'll use the extra space to make a table for baby Goot.
>>4544763
>GIANT boom box
I'm curious now, what does it look like?
>>4544538
That´s what you get for wanting it MISB after it went out of production.
I just built it myself minus speederbike and Snowspeeder last week.
>>4544538
How much smaller is the Snowspeeder compared to the new one?
>>4544607
To the right of "My Wanted List" click on "By Shop".
On the new page sort everything by "Lots Total" so it shows the store with most of your stuff first. There is no way to sort it by lowest price or lowest price/piece ratio, you have to do that yourself by looking into every store and comparing prices.
Maybe adjust the filter so it only shows stores within your country.
>>4544794
the snow speeder designs are all almost identical other than the original
>>4544773
Fpund it for you
>>4544794
The 2014s wings are a stud wider each and its ass is two studs wider.
The 2014 just uses a few nicer pieces.
>>4544823
>*Found it
>>4544794
Appears to be about a 2x2 smaller (length and width).
>>4544697
>>4544700

>>4544546
>2-door, 1-seat police car

>>4544538
>1.4 FD P-Tower dish turret that launches its barrel as some kind of missile
Oh Lego...
>>4544872
This is why the Old Republic collapsed. Everything was designed by committee.
>>4544580
We already have a MB general, as fun as it is to watch the legos elitists rage helplessly they need a break once in a while.
>>4544538
Only one person in the snow speeder? What?
>>4544866
Why would it be illegal, the connection isn't stressing either part
>>4544866
Gah.
Stud-in-hole connections are only illegal if it's more than one stud from a single piece, because the distance between the holes is slightly different than the distance between the studs.
>>4544621
Five Nights at Ripley's?
>>4544885
Hard to tell if there's room in the back for the gunner, the rear-facing gun itself is present. To answer the original question about why it's so expensive, it's all about the clearly indicated "hard to find" minifigs, take them out of the equation and it's just an average set.
>>4544892
No it isn't, the distances are identical.
>>4544894
> Rieekan is in the advent calendar
> Lukes head is exclusive and an updated version is in the new Snowspeeder

>>4544893
heh now that you mentioned it, sure why not. I even added in the rare & mysterious gold xenomorph
Not-Brickarms guy back again, I finally got around to getting a screencap of the finished SKS. Next week I'll try to make something else, or if you guys have any ideas, I'd like to hear them.
>>4544902
It doesn't say the distances are different, it says the Technic holes are very slightly smaller and cause a tighter fit. And honestly the point about the side of the red flat being taller than the Technic piece is bullshit, I just tested it and there's no overlap whatsoever. Overall they can be disregarded if you aren't a little kid or extremely autistic.. oh yeah, legos.
>>4544918
And now with a full FOUR-COLOUR RENDER.
Is putting a technic pin in the underneath hole of a brick or in a minifig head an illegal connection?
>>4544922
>>4544909
Reminds me of that AvP RTS with the genetically engineered tame aliens that were yellow you had to defeat in the alien campaign.
>>4544924
yes
>>4544902
Read the document yourself, dumbass. It doesn't say that the Technic holes are differently spaced, it says that they are smaller than System holes. Putting a single stud in a Technic side hole is illegal too, according to that document.
>>4544936
It's an illegal attachment.
>>4544823
is this the guardians of the galaxy ship?
>>4544986
actually, illegal attachment have a clear definition, as it is attachment that are forbidden by the design committee of lego.
>>4544997
And this matters because...?
>>4545005
'illegal connections' are typically connections that strain the plastic of the pieces, which can cause failure and breakage. They are also connections that can be difficult or even impossible to undo without damaging the parts.
>>4545005
>that filename
Why are you so mean?
what custom camo parts are like pic
>>4545018
Why don't you build a strawman out of lego?
>>4545005
>>4545018
No, to downplay poor design decision, they don't include illegal attachments in their sets.
Most of the times.
>>4544324
what if I told you there's a chance your kid will want a tablet, and will probably be mad at you if you give it plastic bricks instead.
>>4545022
I love that pic, it's exactly how MB fans feel too.
>>4544503
we all did anon, we all did
>>4545020
Seems the minifigs were custom printed by Citizen Brick. The vehicle is Batisbricks and the gear and weapons appear to be mostly Minifigcat, if you were wondering.
>>4545032
>and will probably be mad at you if you give it plastic bricks instead
Well, those bricks didn't cost money, from a gifting standpoint. He already has them for entirely separate reasons, so it's not like he couldn't also get them a tablet. The gift of those legos won't come at the expense of things which cost money, since the legos didn't.
>>4545032
>build tablet from legos
>problem solved
Any tips for working with those ratcheted exo force/knights kingdom parts?
>>4544894
Plenty of other sets that have exclusive minifigures... Must be related to the fact that it's exactly what it is; Hoth, an iconic battle scene...
Still, the whole set is a nice piece taken together, which is why I'd like it.
>>4545070
The joints tend to be hard; build more tightly so nothing gets catapulted or stays in your hand when posing.
>>4545040
Thanks! I'm having trouble finding digital camo minifig parts. Need it for my tacticools
Is it just me or are there no actual joints in the walker's legs except for their connection to the body?
>tfw trying to give this arm articulation will make the parts too floppy
>making the parts nice and secure means no shoulder or hip articulation
Argh.
Anyway, here's an update of the mech I'm making. I decided to give him this deco as a little homage to Apeface from Transformers.
>>4545194
Just spread some sticky-tack inside the joints.
>>4545175
Looks like a ratcheting joint, top of the leg. Probably moves backwards only, like the AT-AP's legs.
>>4545197
Will this work for a connection between a 1x2 hole brick and the male end of the ratcheting joint? Right now I'm just concealing a female ratcheting part inside the mech torso.
>>4545208
Dunno. These are all 30+ years old and loose as all get-out, but they're perfectly rigid with some tack inside.
You could probably even get nicer stuff that you can't see. Or take the time to make sure it doesn't show.
>>4545032
>>4544324 here; my policy with Lego will be the same as my policy with my 1/64 John Deere tractors (no, I'm not farmer 4chan, but I'm the only other guy who posts in his biyearly threads): I'll be sharing them with my theoretical child(ren) when they reach the appropriate age to play with them under low to moderate supervision--not to play too rough with them, but not to treat them like they're some fragile collectibles. It's Lego; it can take a bit of knocking around.
>>4544336
I see one of the UFO impulse sets, and...is that Ice Planet 2002? I'm not really familiar with that theme--it was before my time.
>>4544885
>>4544894
It's the same basic design since 2004; there's no reason why we can't have a flesh-faced Dack Ralter; except that Lego doesn't seem to want to put standard smiley-face pilots in SW anymore. No, everyone's gotta have MUH GRIM DETERMINED SMIRK.
Oh yeah, and regular smileys haven't been "detailed enough" for SW since before 2010, when they started added pupils to the minifigs.

It was a TRU exclusive that was overpriced as shit(like I said, TRU) but then they clearanced them for half price and they all vanished.
>>4545445
I would like to but I only ever use Snapchat to take them, which deletes the snaps after they are viewed or deletes them from your story after a day.
This is basically the cast for now. I didn't picture the rest of the flexers or any of the spikels because, while I do use them, I haven't really changed them much at all. The green guy is based off of Glomp and the Balk has four legs and a tail now. I'd like to add a red one into the mix but none of the Infernites are really doing it for me.
Anyone make use of light bricks in their MOCs? I'd like to see what other people use and do.
>>4545516
Right now the only thing I can do is hide a big 9V police box and stick the roof lights through a wall or floor.
>>4545429

I've been waiting for some news for black friday, but dang that sucks.
>>4545569
They also have the Ice Skating scene for orders over $99 already. Meh.
Incidentally I found some new polybags at Target. Chima Frax' Phoenix Flyer, Chima Worriz' Fire Bike, Friends Jet Ski, Imperial Shuttle. Phoenix and the Jet Ski were in the stocking stuffer section of the christmas aisle(s). Imperial Shuttle and Fire Bike in the check-out. $3.99 each.
