I'm about to customize this bitch. Any last words before I stick her under the knife? (Literally.)
Also Customs thread I guess because I didn't see one and I can't think of another relevant topic.
>>4310876
Who's she gonna end up as?
>>4310988
A certain video game character I have a boner for. It's a surprise for now. I'll post progress pics as I go. Since this is a slow board I'm not worried about this disappearing while the paint dries and things like that.
>>4311001
yet you're making a nendo not a cast-off doll or figure.
Umm is Yume Nikki?
>>4311010
I collect Nendoroids more than other figures and I've already made a horrible custom figma of the same character. So this is take two now that I have a bit more experience under my belt.
>>4310876
Fucking practise on something that isn't a 40 dollar import first.
Please post pics along the way I'm really curious about things like this!
Have you considered selling off the accessories on the BST? If it's Madotsuki you're making, I doubt you'd have any use for wings and guns.
>>4311386
hmm. Never thought of that actually. Good idea.
>>4311161
>that isn't a 40 dollar import first.
I got a homura for 10 dollars, true story.
Alright. First off, I separated the pieces I wanted from the ones I didn't. Pictured are
>the faces I'll be rapainting,
>the body which I've already started to remove pieces from that aren't needed,
>the front headpiece which I've already shaved off the headband
>an arm which I've shaved down to make rounder. Don't want that weird buldge at the top.
Next comes more shaving and sanding!
>>4312189
whatcha making there..
Taking a break from cutting to do some things that need time to dry. After removing the bow on her body, there was a pretty big hole left from where the peg once was, so I filled it with some quick drying putty. I'll have to sand over it a bit later to smooth it out but it filled it in nicely.
This part might suck. I have to make a small extension to the body because of its weir angular cuts and shape. I made the extension out of sculpey, and the idea is that once I bake it it will slip over and cover the bottom 0.3cm.
Baking small and thin pieces is always tricky. Wish me luck
>>4312326
>sculpey
>>4312189
Goku looks like he's smacking the shit out of your plastics.
Be careful.
Alright, baking finished!
Remember that weird circley sculpey lump from before? now it's attached and glued on, shaved down into a rough shape, and ready for sanding and smoothing.
some putty to cover the seams.
I'm not entirely sure how many of these "steps" I should show. I don't feel like they're all too different from eachother..
>>4312173
>got a homu for 10 bucks
>doesn't look bootleg
>hacking it to pieces to make a madotsuki just so you can cum on it
please no
>>4312581
Let him be, is his figure after all and he has the rigth to do whatever he wants
>>4312581
that 10$ guy isn't me. I p.o'd and wasted just as much money as anyone else who bought the homura from GSC. I did buy it specifically for this though.
Oh yeah. Meanwhile I started spraying the hair pieces a while ago. This is the 4th coat going on. The second coat was pretty solid but I noticed there was a few small bubbles in the creases, so I had to wipe them off, smooth them down and start over.
>>4312640
also I realize the paint looks glossy in this photo, but that's just because it's wet. It has a really nice flat finish once it dries.
I need a thicker size brush and some paint pots, so I'm off to the hobbyshop nearby. There won't be a new post for a couple hours at most.
I love this thread. Keep updating us man!
Getting frustrated with painting. I fucked up and didn't realize the blue I bought was green-based, which makes it literally impossible to make any kind of shade of purple, which i need for the skirt. I just spent the past hour trying to mix colors.
For now here's the semi-completed shoes, back hair piece, extra hair ends for the sitting pose,
one face, and the skirt with the primer and base coat on.
>>4313128
Aika from that game Vyse is in?
>>4313128
Keep it up OP, you're doing great!
alright, so most of you have figured this out from the get-go, but for those of you who haven't, here's a hint.
I used my glossy paints for the blood so it will stay super shiny after it dries.
I also let some paint well up at the bottom of the face to look like a droplet. worked out nicely.
and you can see the figma face I made a few years ago. I tried to keep the design similar in the event I ever posed them together.
waiting for paint to dry. I'm losing steam.
Also the lighting from my work lamp is making these colors look a bit more yellowish than they actually are
>>4313641
Please continue OP! We need this!
>>4313825
err... Okay. Well right now I'm waiting for everything to dry so I can paint some details on.
Also I'm having dinner.
>>4313863
Sooooooooo. Show us your custom Figma you did? Idk.
>>4313875
Jesus Christ let the man eat his damn dinner
If this is customs general. What kind of silver marker can I use for touching up action figures? I tried using a silver permanent marker, but the stuff just rubs off on my fingers really easily even after a day.
I'm working on a custom.
>>4313897
maybe try painting some sealer over the marker?
otherwise, why not paint?
>>4313886
But I neeeeeeeeed him.
>>4313157
Aika's hair is orange, not brown. And it's Skies of Arcadia.
I think this is Matsudoki from Yume Nikki and if so if OP doesn't make pic related for one of the faces color me disappointed.
>>4313909
I've had issues with acrylics and sealer not working very well too. Also with marker, I can very small strokes easier than a wet brush.
>>4313899
pics gogoogo
>>4314048
>>4314089
potato
>>4314104
Its just really dark in the attic. I made a holster for the gun though...
>>4314089
>pls kill me
Alright, I'm finished for today. just in time for my desk lamp to burn out. Hope you guys enjoyed this, I'll take some better pictures in the morning, and make some of the effects from the game.
Alternate face. Blood looks rad. I'm kind of proud of this
>>4314445
thaaaaat's- actually pretty cool! I kind of despised you at the begining for butchering a Homu nendo, but you really did a good looking job, cheers!
>>4314445
holy shit op that looks good! i wish i had the guts to do something like that with one of my nendos
bump for OP delivary
At first I thought it was a real shame to use a Homu nendo as customization material, but that Madotsuki looks way better than I expected!
Good job, OP.
How much would you charge for one of these, OP?
So many years without sight of Yume Nikki march... I'd make a Maddy fig myself, but I'm shite with it
>>4316279
*merch
did someone say vomit chan?
>>4316349
every single dollar in my wallet
alt body/pose
last one, and I'm going out for a few hours.
>>4316279
I have no idea. Probably cost of materials and a few bucks extra I'd imagine. You'd have to find this specific Homerun. and the sleeping face is from a Shinku Nendo I have, so it wouldn't come with that one necessarily. I don't know I've never thought about it.
>>4316378
Would you be willing to sell them, if not I probably won't do the looking around haha
>>4316382
I guess. I'm just worried it will end up being too costly. I live in Canada and most of the /toy/ bros I've talked to are murican
I guess shoot me an email and we can talk about it later
Very nice OP.
>>4316397
I-I'm actually Canadian

I'll email you soon~
enjoy your outing
>>4316407
>spoiler
whats wrong with you
>canadian
oooh
>>4316408
I don't use this board much, sorry
I've wanted to do some customs for a while but I haven't really been able to find any affordable blank heads or bodies. I'd rather do from scratch instead of dismantling another figure honestly.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
>>4316412
>sorry
Definitely Canadian.
>>4316433
wait for them to make an archetype like they did with figma
Awesome job, OP! I especially like how the hair came out. I've been painting by hand, but I think I might try your way of using a spray can for the base color when I work on my next project.
>>4316433
I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would be close to a blank body, but there is a very cool club on MFC where we all split nendoroids. http://myfigurecollection.net/club/576 You can leave a comment on that page asking for parts you'd like or click the forum link above the Saber doodle to check out all the splits people are currently hosting.
Here are all the customs I've made. I started with petit nendos to try and get the hang of things.
>>4312189
There's a custom general if you need specific advice by the way.
>>4314445
I love Yume Nikki. This is awesome OP.
>>4316279
>So many years without sight of Yume Nikki march..
What are you talking about? We have shitloads of keychains, CD, manga, and other stupdi shit like pens and pencils. There's nof igures though which sucks.
>>4316887
No good merch, I suppose would have been better of me to say.
Also the manga isn't great, unfortunately
>>4316800
>you butchered a mimi
oh god ;-;
I'm back. here's the complete "set" for Madotsuki. If they ever make an official one it had better have all of this shit or I'm going to be super disappointed.
>>4316982
It looks absolutely gorgeous, well done.
>>4316982
10/10 it's okay
>>4316950
Nah, I'd never do that to her just for a weird maid thing. The joints in her braids were broken and the hair was scratched up quite a bit. The ribbons in her hair are the only thing I altered, which I did because the only joints I had that fit were pink.
>>4316982
It looks great! Plan on making anyone else in the future?
>>4317052
Honestly, I really want a Ranma nendo. I'd throw a bajillion dollars at japan for one, so maybe that If I can get a hold of some nice base parts.
I am basic skill in 3D Modelling. Would it be feasible to make this and then use Shapeways to print it out and then sand it?
I want to turn this statueshit into a different character, but I can't think of any other girls with a similar hairstyle
>>4317128
Vaguely familiar.
Is that from the nick show about the teenage robo girl?
>>4317217
No. Name is noted in top right.
>>4317217
Not the same guy, but that is from Darkstalkers, I believe. It's the bee girl.
>>4317217
Pretty sure it's Q-Bee from Darkstalkers.
A Jenny figure would be pretty sweet though
>>4317128
I would think so, but I don't really know much about this kind of thing. GSC showed off some nendoroids they made with a 3D printer and there were some really intricate and thin pieces. I don't see how something like this wouldn't work just as well.
I have a question for you though...I have never touched a 3D modeling program, but I'm pretty good when it comes to drawing. Do you think modeling is easier than drawing? I'm wondering if I should learn so perhaps I'll be able to get a figure made myself.
>>4317128
Theoretically, yes, but when you compare how much it would cost to how fragile and mediocre-looking the final product would turn out, it's not really worth the effort. 3D printing is still a very young technology, and it'll be quite a while before consumers will be able to access half-decent 3D prints that don't cost a fortune.
>>4317203
I know that statue.
Your sculpting's still sloppy, but a bit more time invested into sanding should clean that right up.
Look into wet sanding with very fine grit (1000+) sandpaper, that usually gets you a nice, smooth finish.
Remember, these are pure kawaii 2D schoolgirls, not marvel legends. The smallest blemish WILL show up, especially next to the default parts you just spraypaint over.
Speaking of paint, invest in an airbrush. It'll save you loads. The cost of buying cans and cans of that Tamiya spraypaint adds up very quickly. That and the finish is near perfect, on a whole other level compared to a cansprayed coat.
cont'd
>>4318051
Flatcoat everything. Clothes, skin, and hair look fabulous matt. A damn good flatcoat is what separates a true figma from some shoddy knockoff. But if it's meant to be gloss, then by all means keep it gloss.
And finally, for both ours and your sake, take better photos. I feel a lot of your custom's flaws are hidden up by the subpar lighting and photography.
Your current cam/phone will be fine, don't worry about getting a new camera, just put some effort into a lamp + solid color background setup. A large piece of white construction paper leaning against where the wall and floor meet does wonders.
Other than that though, damn good job m8. This is a lot of effort, and your demonstrating a good grasp of basics. A lot of people wouldn't even bother priming, thanks to this one shitty tutorial floating around. Seeing good work like this gets my craftan juices goin.
Keep it up!
Still awaiting OP's email
>>4312640
What color is that?
I kinda want to make a Madotsuki figma, only thing that's stopping me is getting the right shade of color for her hair and clothes.
>>4318532
it's TS-1 red brown
>>4318540
Thanks.
I'm assuming you used a homebrew mixture for her shirt/skirt and eyes, handpainted?
>>4318550
yeah, tamiya flat red/white/black/blue are the colors I used. Gloss red for the blood.
be careful with the blue though because as I said before it's a green-based blue, so trying to get purple-ish colors with it is next to impossible. If you mix it with the red you'll get brown and grays. every time. Just experiment with it until you get colors you like
>>4318566
Thanks once again.
>>4318566
ALSO. Here's a pic of the figma hair I painted. I resculpted her hair at the end bits (sculpey), but I didn't prime or anything, and the paint turned out pretty sticky, even though it's been about 2 years. Take note of that.
and for reference, here she is in all her shitty glossy glory. Babby's first custom.
>>4318591
Not too bad except the neck of the sweater.
>>4318591
OP, you're amazing.
>>4318611
trust me that's not even the worst of it.
>>4316982
I guarantee it'll never have vomit so you didn't goof
If this is a custom thread I need help with making a kyubey head for a Killer Queen SAS. I haven't removed the SAS' head yet in fear of it being impossible so I wanted some tips first.
Anyone have any tips/experiences with repainting dolls? I really want to try to make an Elsa and Anna for my niece since the Disney store dolls are all gone and the Mattel ones look like shit. I'm pretty artsy/can handle paint well so what should I know for my first time repainting?
Anyone here have success in replicating pic related?
Want to make one for Raiden..
How to recolor pvc? Tried using a sharpie pen, did not cover the darker colors, comes off when rubbed.
>>4325164
Sand with something like 300grit first, prime, paint, and you'll probably need some sort of topcoat as well.
awesome OP
Have any of you heard of a product called Instamorph? It's a moldable plastic. I hate the idea of using a clay or putty on a plastic figure, so I was wondering if anyone has tried Instamorph or something similar and what you thought of it.
>>4330171
Instamorph is really for mold making and stuff iirc
Looks absolutely superb, OP. You did a great job.
>>4317203
Only thing I can think of is Stocking
I made this easy Nendoroid Petit custom. does anyone even know who it is?
I was thinking about painting the hair but the original is close and I like the gradient
how do you guys import goodies from japan?
I tried ordering from amazon jp but it doesnt allow me
>>4318723
Just pull it off dude. You realize that SAS have interchangeable heads, right?
>>4332388
That's Bazett form Fate/Hollow Ataraxia without her jacket.
Since we're on the topic of nendo customizing, I made this over a year ago, and never got back the drive to finish it.
>>4332388
Vanessa from KoF?
I've never done a custom before. I really want to make a Quote from Cave Story, and I think the Kirito figma would be a good base to work off of. I would just need to replace the arms and the torso if the jacket doesn't come off, which I imagine it doesn't. Do you guys think this would be a good way of going about doing it?
>>4333177
Yeah but now I need a kyubey head to replace it
>>4333603
Still looks like Bazett to me, dude. Vanessa doesn't have a mole in her face or earrings.
>>4334679
fine...you happy now?
