I don't think the audience for creative mediums has changed, I think the audience they aim for has changed, so a lot of people who used to be into certain creative mediums have stopped buying new ones while a new audience that wasn't interested before has taken over. This is sort of a problem anytime somebody makes a product. Naturally, everyone wants to make money, even if it isn't their primary goal, so you have to focus on a large enough audience to support yourself. There's almost never something wrong with that. What happens is that the longer a business goes on, the more conscientious workers replace creative ones. Starting a business or whatever kind takes a huge risk and a huge idea, but then you need people to maintain it, and for that you don't want creative risk-takers as much as the pragmatic industrious types. Over time, they actually take over, and without the artistic vision of the creator, all they have is a motive to make money. How can you do that? By pandering to the people who already buy your product? No, you need a larger audience, so you have to pander to people who wouldn't normally buy your product, and that old audience will more or less stick around because they've invested so much into your product. So now you've pissed off a bunch of your core fanbase, but you've sucked in more than enough replacements and are making more money, so fuck 'em. That's ultimately what happens.

As for SJWs, I think you could release an old school comic book, for example, nowadays and if it was good it would still be successful. There'd be an uproar from the radical left, but if anything they'd just be advertising your product for you. Sword 'n Board is one of, if not my favorite way to play most RPGs. I've always liked the idea of people with weapons of iron and wills of steel and nothing more challenging monsters on par with gods. WW2 isn't really taught as "okay, who actually carried the war in terms of doing most of the fighting and tieing up most of Axis forces again?" but as a sequence in which the Soviets get beaten pretty hard and then the invasion of Normandy happens, leading to the end of WW2.

Especially in France, they probably cut off after the liberation of the country and switch to the wars in Algiers, Vietnam and some Cold War basics or something. It's an issue of nationalized history education.

Nah, they're not "improving in strides right now", they've been good for a decade. And it's more to do with the EU and ease of trade. Living in Bolan, Czech Republic, Hungary or wherever is cheap as fuck and shipping even big pieces internally isn't hugely painful, so you can make a solid living as an Eastbro making and selling really good armor at reasonable prices to bongs, krauts and nordics. I don't know exactly how stuff works out economically for the bong-resident smiths but I'm guessing it's just volume from the large, long standing historical nerd scene (all varieties) and a modest lifestyle.

The first or the second part? I realize that SCA armours have ahistoric bits and that the majority is shit, but that market allowed a lot of armour smiths to make a living. And the SCA is at its largest in the US.
