Yes, every faction with subfactions will get it. Grey Knights and Death Guard have a codex, but didn't get it, because they don't have subfactions.

Expect Catachans to get it. Some sneaky git orks to get it. Some force field necron things to get it. Some hive fleet to get it. GSC will not get it, because they won't get subfactions (though they should, since they have varying cults).

Welcome to League of 40k.

Death guard actually play slightly different from every other army, and more of their units seem viable. Ad mech have pretty big problems, and as a big codex race, don't offer much to separate them from every other big codex race so far.

No matter what folks say about playing the winning team I always, ALWAYS urge people to choose the army they like the most in terms of how they look and the lore etc.

If you don't truly enjoy your dudes your not going to entirely enjoy painting them or playing with them

If theres another faction you like more that your store doesn't sell ask them if theyd be willing to at least order the respective start collecting set in for you to buy if not just buy online

as with most factions (except deathguard for now) start with the start collecting box first

>>
>>55412066
It probably will be seven subdivisions for the drew carey, but not all the subdivisions will cover the same units.

>>55412080
So far, every big codex (not small codices like GK or DG) has had a faction that gets -1 to hit from 12 inches away. With ad mech, GW decided to spice things up a bit and have the -1 to hit from 12 inches away faction not get the deep strike stratagem. Instead GW gave that stratagem to the "ignores AP of 1" faction. SPICY!

You know, I'm ok with the infiltrator nerf. One less attack isn't as bad as it could've been and atleast they didn't get rid of the infiltrate rule.

What really pisses me off is that we don't get any new units. I was hoping for a cheap HQ choice. GW didn't have to even think that hard for it, an Alpha Primus with the stats of a commissar is all I asked for, and yet the only thing they changed in the codex was giving electro priests small buffs and needing infiltrators even worse.

I'm interested in how factions with specific subfaction hqs will look. Like Imotekh goes with Sautekh. Farsight goes with and only buffs Enclaves, while Longstrike only buffs T'au. The sept.

Subfactions for those guys will be much more interesting cause they have multiple subfaction characters with unique buffing rules. Admech has just the one.
Like for example, Longstrike locked to one sept means regardless of the CT his sept is intrinsically tank centered. While Imotekhs dynasty will naturally have Flayed one uniqueness pre CT.
Makes me excited for them cause they'll all be more exciting codices with subfactions more uniquer than paint and CT. Not even touching stratagems

Admech, brother. We aren't as openly powerful as other armies, but if you play it right we're the best on the field, hands down.

And tabletop aside (as fluctuations in rules make that a temporary thing), it's just the better damn army. Truly we are the last grimdark army, the best models, the coolest lore, the most fun aesthetic, literally the most /your dudes/ faction. gloria Mechanicum
>>
>>55412243
The spine is intact, the covers are solid, and the pages are thick and glossy. I'd say it's a solid codex. Units work alright on their own and can even be devastating in small 2-unit combos, but things seem like they could snowball if you can get everything in placewith Moration and some buffs. But I'll be waiting for the full release to buy anything else.

Alternating activations would encourage you to put as many points into one unit as possible to have as many points act before the opponent does. That's not that different from the 4 drop lists we're seeing now.
>>
>>55412560

Could have something like:

Companion: After an X unit activates, you may activate this unit rather than handing off to the other player. Another unit may not use companion directly after this activation.

So a medic/buff guy could move up at the same time as the unit he's working with.

>>
>>55412619

>>
>>55412619
I would say that it isn't an improvement, because right now you can build you list two way: 1. as few drops as possible to chance it and go for first turn OR 2. say fuck it and take advantage of the benefits of MSU. If we go with alternating activations then the second way to list build is less viable than before and everyone will go with the minimum number of drops list.

I feel gross fielding my baneblade in my steel legion army, despite the baneblade being my favourite unit in this entire game...

but then I see every ultramarine player dropping guillman every chance they get.

>>55412708

It's something that happens a lot in Malifaux with rats (Very cheap mooks). The other guy can take a heap of them and declare they'll activate whenever he needs to activate.

By the end, he's got all his real heavy hitters moving uninterrupted/without you able to move to counter them because you've moved with everything already.
>>
>>55412708
The relative costs have changed. Imagine that you know you're going to go second, because of that you want your troops split into multiple small units causing your opponent to waste firepower each time he overkills a unit. This also allows you to play the objects and spread across the map better.

Now imagine that instead each turn you get to activate one of your units after he activates his first. We if you're already getting that activation ahead of what you were going to get before then you might as well make it a better activation. So you make that unit a little bigger. Same with the next unit for the next activation, and so on. Ultimately, it is a more even playing field, because it strictly improves the chances of the player who goes second, but the incentives it creates for army construction leaves less list diversity.

Right now the player with first turn and the player with second turn have two different optimization strategies, but moving to an alternating activation system leaves only the one optimization strategy and thus less list diversity.
>>
>>55412330
What do you think the scout move Dominions make is?
>>
>>55412593

I think the way to make alternating activations work would be by combining the shooting and fighting phase into a new phase called the "engagement phase" where all fighting happens at the same time.

So for example, you take turns moving, positioning your men, casting your psychic powers. Then in the engagement phase both players declare who their units are going to attack and then you both roll your dice based on the units current strength.

Units can declare an engagement against multiple targets, but must split up their fire power accordingly. This allows big death star units to either zero in on a single target or spread their fire out, while also allowing MSU type armies to try and focus fire down the death stars.
>>
>>55412790

Oh and to be clear, you wouldn't remove models slain until the end of the engagement phase and everyone is done attacking.

If you play your army for fun, don't stop playing. Just don't be an ass and WAAC.

I played a game a while ago where me and a friend played against a poxwalker army. That was the funniest game I've had in a while.

Rules: choose one infantry unit, one HQ, and one transport. (AdMech can choose a single kastelan with a datasmith.) If the transport is surrounded with the HQ inside, attacker wins.

Objective: survive

Narrative: your dudes send a kill team to see why a hive world went dark. Turns out, all the civilians were turned into poxwalkers and your dudes need to survive until turn (X).

Defender win conditions: HQ survives until turn (X)

Attacker win condition: kill HQ before turn (X)

Exactly! We need sniper railguns and sniper lascanons and sniper wraithcanons so every army can ignore the character rule on turn one and every buff from every army disappear and we only can play the most point efficient standard statline of every army. Good plan.

srsly wtf?!
>>
>>55413590

Honestly, the statline given there would be worse than just throwing more ratlings at the problem most of the time.
>>
>>55413549

If you make it so you can just obliterate characters before just going to take a bare minimum cheapest possible HQ choice to fulfill criteria and then they're just going to spam more fucking units.

If you want that kind of shit go play historicals or warmaster.

Summoning doesn't require you to stay still, it just requires you to give up their movement.
Disembarking models count as moving but they haven't actually moved and can do so freely after disembarking which they can give up for summoning.
>units can then act normally
>>
>>55413165

It would, barely, kill a commissar on average. 31 points killed by the full shooting phase of a 160 point model and that's one of the most fragile characters in the game.

That's a less powerful sniper per point than ratlings. That and it was purely hypothetical, a vague 'Sniper (Rule) models for every army would be good, even if they are not sniper (Weapon)'

The counterpoint to you wanting to not lose your Autach is people wanting it to be possible to kill him without wading through your entire army because you are not one of the few forces with half decent snipers.
>>
>>55413647
you realise the whole point of a aura char is they upvalue the units around them. the 31 points model with an aura is NOT worth 31 points at any time. and then it's suddenly effective to shoot it with a exorcist if it debuffs 100 conscripts.

9th edition predictions?

I've played a lot of 8E and I'm bored already. Games just incredibly bland, all the units are a homogenised mass and gameplay is just blindly moving this mass to your opponents mass and rolling dice until someone wins. The game seems to almost actively punish any attempt at real strategy

This doesn't look to be changing anytime soon with the codex's basically being copy pastes of the index with copy pasted traits from the previous codex.

What could actually improve the game and make it tactically interesting to play again?

I'm a bit salty thry didn't fix any of the specific problems and retarded details in the placeholder index rules, and that Questor Mechanicus are pretty much just regular Knights with a one-shot stratagem for Canticles, but I can't really complain about getting some rather excellent forge buffs and Doctrinas back in decent fashion. I certainly won't turn it down, but it's obvious that they didn't give a damn about Admech and it could have been so much better. We didn't need complicated changes, dammit.

Still, digging the fact that I can have a Magos Biologis proper as Warlord trait now, and Dragoons are now decent as long as they didn't get a massive points increase or something. If they'd done that kind of fix to all our subpar units I'd be much happier, but they couldn't be assed to ask a couple Admech players for a wishlist and sit three guys down for an hour and do the damn job properly. Affront to the Machine God/10.

Thinking of dropping a patrol detachement of Admec into my Sisters of battle to get my points up and fill some holes in my force, ie long range tankbuster and some meq killers in the form of an Onager and Destroyers unit, maybe some rangers with snipes if I can get the points to work out.

Does it seem too unfluffy? Its a witch-hunters army, Canoness and Inquisitor duo working together to rock some faces. Is a Domius or Enginseer added to the mix a bit much? Far as I know the Ecclesiarchy and Inquisition are at constant odds with the cog bros...

Glancing over the feedback in the list thread, it seems a lot of people are recommending MSU for 8th. Was wondering, why is this especially good? I get it can help maximise special weapons & unlock detachments, but it's being recommended even when those aren't factors, so something else is going on. I'd thought smaller units were more vulnerable to getting completely wiped with a poor (not even really unlucky like a 6) morale roll, so what's the big advantage of MSU? What am I missing?
>>
>>55414377
I'm mostly worried that we're going to return to needing 2 or 3 books to play one army again. It'll be interesting to see how GW handles subsequent model releases, unless what each army gets at codex release is all anyone is going to get. But I doubt that.
>>
>>55414426
By the time a MSU is at risk of getting wiped out by a moral roll most of the unit is dead anyways. Mean while the other unit that didn't get shot at takes no moral damage.

So the Stygies strat looks pretty interesting. If you drop the unit down before the first turn begins, does that mean they can then move, shoot, charge normally as soon as the battle begins?

According to 1d4chan, since I can't find it in the pics last thread, it's:
>Use this stratagem when you set up an unit. You can set up the unit in concealment instead of placing it on the battlefield. At the beginning of the first battle round but before the first turn begins, the unit emerges from its hiding place - set it up anywhere on the battlefield that is more than 9 inches away from any enemy models.

If so, that might be pretty sweet with Fulgurites. Slam down 20, move forward, take your easy charge and maybe spice things up a little with a double Fight/consolidate to fuck up a gunline or a round of +1A if you're shoving onto an objective.

A big blob of 20 3++ 5+++ maniacs suddenly popping into existence next to something important seems deeply entertaining.

>>
>>55414563

You don't have to buy them?

You should figure out their pricing model by now, most of the core units are pretty cheap via either the starter sets or start collecting boxes.

I've got a silly amount of death guard stuff dirt cheap. Then the specialist units and individual characters cost more but are pretty much optional (and you can convert cheaper models to use as counts as). Or just accept not having to run every single possible unit in an army. You have to vote with your wallet on this sort of thing.

Death shroud aren't even that good acting at best as ablative wounds for mortarion (which if you're buying him you don't give a shit about money anyway)
>>
>>55414576
Wait really? No sprues?

Those death guard termies are fucking over the line. I was hype to buy some but that is too much for models with no poseability or options. It's too fucking much even with those things.

>>
Admech can drop 40 Electropriests 9" away from the enemy turn 1, then move and charge. That's completely insane, even with the fact that if the enemy gets first turn they could blow some pretty wide gaps into those formations. I'll sure as hell pay 1ppm more and 1CP/unit for Fulgurites to skip almost all the downsides of Fulgurites.

Those, a couple packs of roaming 4+ Taser (5.5 hits at S8 AP-1 D2 each) -2 To Hit Dragoons and the usual sniper/Onager gunline with RG Tactics, pumped up repair and limited +2 To Hit seems pretty damn brutal to me.

I will admit that I haven't yet seen their points costs, so they may have been increased to compensate but I can't see anything about that on the other forums.

Taser Lances are now AP-1, which means that they're not completely impotent against Marines or vehicles anymore, and Stygies tactics along with Incense Cloud let them have -2 To Hit, so much more durable due to the way stacking those up works.
They got a stratagem that lets them Advance 2d6, too, which might be handy if you're not just teleporting them into position or going sneaky with covert deployment for T1 charge.

The biggest thing, though, is Conqueror Imperatives giving a full unit of Dragoons +2 To Hit in melee, so 4+ Taser with those lances and an average of 5.5 hits per model. I kinda want another two of them so I can run a big smashy wedge now, along with 700pts of electros also doing the T1 charge trick and another 900pts or so of regular shooty stuff. We're actually kinda nippy with a few units now.

And that's what I was worried about with 8th, cookie cutter Stratagems, tactics, and abilities. Lack of imagination if you ask me. Maybe even laziness.

It was from an uncited reddit post

Flails are literally the WAACfag spam weapon though. DTTFE gives you an extra fucking D3 attacks and it's S+2 AP-2 D2.

The DTTFE interaction is obviously fucking broken, and will hopefully get FAQed. In the meantime, houserule that it is "one additional hit roll at the same profile" instead of "one additional attack" and don't play with anyone who won't agree to that.

Agree that the profile is probably too strong though, as there's nothing it isn't good at ATM. Should be AP0 probably, or AP -1 at the most, though still S6 to mulch those T3 units.

flail is meh vs tanks, alright vs marines and fucking great vs hoards. stop being a stupid nigger

Check out the Primaris characters, those prices are criminal.
>>
>>55415373
If you wanted to really twist RAW to your purposes, you could always try arguing that the line "These extra attacks cannot themselves generate any further attacks." in the DTTFE rule means the flail cannot generate extra attacks if you roll above a 1 on the D3.
