Thread Question: What's your most "Hipster" commander?
>>
>>55391952
are there even hipster commanders at this point? everything is either played to some extent or unplayable garbage. when you see a finely tuned Chromium deck or something it's good despite having a bad commander, not because of it.

i guess my most "hipster" deck is my uyo storm control deck.

Who's more interesting for Werewolf tribal between Ulrich and Ruric Thar?
I get the feeling Ulrich wants to transform often and should have some various P/T boosts to take advantage of his fight ability, while Ruric Thar will keep werewolves in their wolf forms thanks to his punishing ability.
So I guess with Ulrich I'll want creatures with abilities that activate when they flip, and with Ruric I'll want some more "don't you dare cast stuff" effects and creatures that want to stay flipped.
Anything I missed?

Why is it that I only care about EDH when I'm in a position where I can't build or brew? It's like money in the bank, free time to spare, but can't be bothered to start get the idea train rolling. It's not on the level of Azami infinites, Teferi stax or Memnarch/Arcum artifact fuckery, but it's still a lot better than more popular monoblue decks.
Baral doesn't have wincons, Talrand will eat removal as soon as he drops, Thassa is fucking sea creature tribal of all things.

C17 precons aren't "bad", they're just not up to par with C16 or 15. The most obvious comparison is the dragon deck's manabase. All 5 of the C16 decks managed to make a 4c manabase work but OoB Ur dragon is a fucking nightmare.

That being said, Inalla is still complete horseshit and I will forever stand by that statement. She might as well be an enchantment that is absolutely un-interactable at any point in the game, who can always clone your opponent's wizards and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. At least Meren, Atraxa, and all the other stupid commanders the C series has released are required to be actually on the field, Inalla does it for (1) from the command zone.

Looking for cards with several activated abilities to use with Mairsil. Currently I have Morphling, Torchling, Aetherling, Trading Post, and Staff of Domination. Any of y'all wanna give me some feedback on my Chandra.dec? It is garbage for obvious reasons (being a burn deck with no combos in EDH, being a red deck that isn't secretly monobrown, etc.) but I am curious to see if y'all have any good cards on theme that I missed? I've won games with it in my meta, so power level isn't too big of a concern.

I'd really appreciate y'all having a look. I got myself an Ugin for the deck to help clear Enchantments and for the one or two planeswalkers matters cards so I need to slot that in.

I've recently been trying to improve my ability at card evaluation, and I'm currently trying to find a hard way to quantify certain aspects of a card. Currently:

>If a spell allows you to draw a card in addition to its' other effects, the card draw is considered to be worth an additional two mana.
>Problem: difficult to evaluate cantrips and cards with varying levels of draw, such as Opt, Blue Sun's Zenith and Dregs of Sorrow.

>Searching for a land card to hand is worth one mana.
>Problem: difficult to gauge potential tempo loss.

>Destroying a creature is considered to be worth 3 mana.
>Problem: difficult to factor in non-standard rider effects, such as Doom Blade's inability to hit black creatures, or Prey Upon requiring a creature.

>Gaining life is worth approximately 4 life to 1 mana.
>Problem: lifegain is considered either worthless or vital if your strategy does or does not care. Difficult to evaluate in a vacuum.

>The raw value of a card is roughly 3 mana when in hand. Activated abilities are therefore very strong due to not requiring additional cards (mostly).
>Problem: sometimes difficult to gauge on the condition that some abilities others consider strong are very inefficient, as well as not being able to use activated abilities from hand.

Am I missing the mark with these values and how they're weighted? Is pic related, a bulk rare, bad despite the potential to kill 5 things and draw 5 for 10 mana?
>>
>>55394189
they fixed that by banning emmy, the entire mtgo meta was 87% Baral for a while
>>
>>55394200
In terms of Wizard's design ideas, you're spot on. However, in terms of absolute efficiency:

>Aside from X-costing cards, draw/mana should be 1/1 or higher, with "1-mana worth" of other effects tacked on
>Aside from destroying a creature is worth 2 mana, but 1 is preferred
>Reviving a creature is 2 mana, but 3 is fine in a pinch
>Searching a basic land to hand is a fractional mana effect, like drawing a card. Searching any land is worth 1-2 mana.

>>
>>55394253
Are you referring to revival to hand or to field? Outside of reanimate, I can't think of any 1-mana permanent recursion, and one could argue an additional amount of "mana" is paid in terms of the life lost by the effect (paying 3 "mana" of life to revive a creature with a CMC of 8).
>>
>>55394200
>non-black creatures
Problem number 1. This is actually a giant restriction. I never really considered "target nonblack creature" to be that big of a hassle until I needed to kill one and Shriekmaw was just dead in my hand.
>costs 5 as a startup
Problem number two. It gets better the more you dump into it but you have to have a wealth of mana for it to be good. Black can certainly get a lot of mana, but you won't always have your cabal coffers or the like.

Even though you're copying Increasing Vengeance, its modifier is applied dynamically. The double copies only happen when it's cast from the graveyard. Seeing how copies aren't cast, even if they're copies of one that was, they only produce one copy.

When you copy a spell you copy everything about that spell. You cant even change the modes on modal spells. X is the same, and in this case, it copies the part about copying a spell twice. He can make infinite tokens just fine.
>>
>>55395653
>When Increasing Vengeance resolves, it creates one or two copies of a spell. You control each of the copies. Those copies are created on the stack, so they’re not “cast.” Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell won’t trigger. The copies will then resolve like normal spells, after players get a chance to cast spells and activate abilities.

in 1v1, sure.

bump that up to 4 players and his eminence ability becomes way less good. you can't really do anything other than be an aggressive deck with him, and those just don't work in 4-player unless you're a deck that doesn't run out of gas. arahbo runs out of gas really fast.
>>
>>55397415

arahbo is good with hunter's insight and soul's majesty, its also good with double strike equipment or cats with double strike. you can definitely build arahbo to have more gas

i agree that aggro has issues in multiplayer but none of the other cat commanders support a non-aggro deck, arahbo is the best becaues eminence is good
>>

>none of the other cat commanders support a non-aggro deck

You can be kind of hate-bear or pillow-fort with Mirri. Just have to find a good way to tap her without attacking when you need to.
>>
>>55397476

thats pretty loose man, first of all, hatebears is aggro, second of all. mirri is a bad pillowfort commander, and there's really no reason for mirri to be your commander at all when you could her in the 99 of arahbo
>>
>>55397468
voltron decks like mirri or nazahn are usually way better than creature-spam aggro decks because while most people are running 3-4 cards that say "destroy all creatures", not everyone is going to have vandalblast in their deck.

>>
>>55397492

with arahbo you dont need to spam creatures, each one is a legit threat since its getting +3/+3

you can do the same thing and play some equipment and suit up a dude but you dont have to pay any mana to do it. nazahn and mirri are fine but there's no reason to make them your cat deck commander when you could just put them in your arahbo deck. arahbo is like a free equipment + a late game further pump for one of your dudes

Sequencing, timing, etc. Red decks aren't easy to play.

whats a good way to build a deck based in possibility storm?

I wanna try brw for tutors every game just so I can consistently get it online
>>
>>55398836
Mishra is uniquely able to capitalize on possibility storm.
>>
>>55398844
doesnt possibility storm exile the card before mishras ability goes on the stack?

im thinking of going with the rule of law/eidolon of rhetoric route for some control and then some way to sneak out some bubs past the storm
>>
>>55398890
Ill be honest i dont know the specifics, but the end result of mishra and pstorm is that you get what you cast and what you flip.
>>
>>55398890
That's not how the stack works.
When multiple abilities you control trigger at the same time you choose how they go on the stack.
>>
>>55398890
both trigger on cast, "play" is just the old wording for cast. so I'd say you'd be able to stack the triggers so that possibility storm resolves first, after that you resolve mishras trigger and search for the artifact.
>>
>>55398918
I think you get to choose what goes on the stack first, so you put mishras firstand storm second and then storm resolves and then you can use mishra to get it back, pretty neato but not really what im looking for

might see if I can just go WR and focus on the lock as the decks main gameplan then some way to cheat out cards past the storm, unless there arent as many tutors for enchants in white then ill do the black splash and use either alesha or kalia as the commander

I run Silumgar, the Drifting Death. 94 Decks and mine (horribly out of date) is one of them. It does well more often than not but he's not my winningest dude. That's Thassa b/c she was my Teferi Takes Too Many Turns deck - changed the Commander to Thassa so I could actually win with all those extra turns. I usually play it once per session if at all b/c, well, you be the guy to say "I'm gonna play the extra turns deck again" and see how that goes over.

I guess Changeling Titan and Berserker will do for ETB triggers like Where Ancients Tread?

Aetherflux or Lab Man. Your deck runs such a high density of cantrips and infinite mana combos that you're just looking for an excuse to go off.

You can search out one half with Zur, as well as Solemnity and Phyrexian Unlife.

Inalla + Artificial Evolution

The effect lasts indefinitely, so it should also apply when Inalla is moved to the command zone.
What new subtype besides wizard? What do?
>>
>>55400105
>target spell or permanent

Once Inalla leaves the battlefield, she's no longer that permanent. The effect doesn't rewrite her physical card, just the permanent it was representing at the time.
>>
>>55400054
You are in black, the color of tutoring, and white, the color of specifically tutoring enchantments. IF you can't find two blasted enchantments, you're doing it wrong! Heck there's even a theros block card, Plea for Guidance, that's mono white and just straight tutors two enchantments. Sure it costs 6 but this is EDH, and Axis costs 6 already.
>>
>>55396951
>how many targeted removal / board wipes cards do you guys usually run? typically run around 8:4
You should run 4:8, because you don't want to 1-for-1 in a multiplayer format

Make it a 3 card combo with Phyrexian Unlife and use Enduring Ideal to go fetch.

If it goes unanswered for a few turns then yes.
Otherwise that's a lot of mana for someting that's not impacting the game drastically.

>>

>>
>>55400206
My current mindset is that single target removal should only be stuff that targets everything such as Chaos Warp, Beast Within and Anguished Unmaking and to handle artifact/enchantment spam with board wipes that hit everything like Hour of Revelation, Akroma's Vengeance, Planar Cleansing, Cyclonic Rift, Oblivion Stone etc.
Fracturing Gust is really underrated.
